After parting ways with Hua Wucuo on friendly terms, Wang Xiaoshi continued on his way. Hua, for his part, intended to quietly withdraw from the martial world and live a life of freedom. However, his hopes were dashed when he was ambushed in a deserted alley by agents from Six Half Hall. His assailant was Lu Jiansan, who revealed himself as another spy planted within the House of Sunset Drizzle.

Jiansan lamented that Hua Wucuo had proven to be a failure, claiming that had Six Half Hall backed him instead, the outcome would have been different. Settling an old score, he slapped Hua across the face. Wang Xiaoshi heard the commotion and rushed to intervene, but he arrived too late to prevent Hua Wucuo's capture. As he was dragged away, Hua reflected that the Capital was not just a land of heroes, but also a field of life and death.

Meanwhile, Lianxin visited Su Mengzhen to request his permission to leave. Su Mengzhen readily agreed, offering her his secluded house in Yingzhou, a property purchased with his late father's private funds. He then explained the profound bond between them, which was more familial than a simple debt of gratitude. Many years ago, when the Su family was pursued by Liao experts, Su Mengzhen's Martial Uncle intervened, repaying a debt of kindness to Su's father.

The Martial Uncle successfully helped Su Mengzhen escape the siege but was killed by a palm strike from Liao's top expert, Master Shiwu. This same strike was the source of Su Mengzhen's chronic illness, and he acknowledged that he would have died without his Uncle's sacrifice. Yingzhou was not only the burial place of Lianxin's father but also of Master Shiwu.

After Master Shiwu's death, Su Mengzhen's father had brought Lianxin into the House of Sunset Drizzle, and she had served them with wholehearted devotion ever since. Elsewhere, a speeding carriage nearly collided with an elderly woman, prompting Wang Xiaoshi and Wen Rou to quickly rescue her. Bai Choufei attempted to pursue the carriage, but Wang Xiaoshi stopped him, pointing out that they were about to enter the territory of Six Half Hall.

Wen Rou elaborated that the Capital was divided into distinct spheres of influence: the House of Sunset Drizzle, led by benevolence, protected its people and controlled their current street, while Six Half Hall, driven by profit, dominated the Old Caomen Street area and forbade entry to their rivals. The carriage came to a halt in the market, from which Mo Yan, the River Cutting Sword, emerged.

Seeking a place for his men in the Capital, he introduced himself to Di Feijing and offered 35 percent of his river-faring income in exchange for Six Half Hall's protection. As a supposed gift, Mo Yan revealed he had rescued an injured man named Zhe Tianchou, who he believed held significant secrets of Six Half Hall. However, Di Feijing coldly informed Mo Yan that he already knew, revealing that he had personally written the letter recommending Mo Yan.

He declared Zhe Tianchou a traitor who had endangered "My Lady." As Zhe Tianchou frantically tried to explain that he was only following orders, Di Feijing asserted that since Zhe had returned alive, he now had to obey his command. He ordered Zhe Tianchou to end his own life, promising to care for his family. Subsequently, Di Feijing's men executed Mo Yan on the spot as indifferent onlookers went about their business.

While Bai Choufei was at a `Guanpu` gambling stall, Wang Xiaoshi and Wen Rou, pursued by a group of men, suddenly pulled him away. Fleeing, Wang Xiaoshi burst into a room and discovered Zhu Xiaoyao, an acclaimed actress from the House of Sanhe, the Capital's most renowned entertainment quarter. After seeing her, she insisted he stay for a short while to protect her reputation. Feeling he owed her for providing an escape, Wang Xiaoshi reluctantly agreed.

When he tried to leave through the window, Zhu Xiaoyao began to weep, eliciting his sympathy. She then offered him a drink as an apology, but after he drank it, his legs weakened, and he realized he had been drugged with henbane seeds. She explained it was a lesson to be wary of deceptive women in the Capital, a place she called an "enchanted den." As Wang Xiaoshi struggled to crawl away, he lost consciousness.

Later, Wang Xiaoshi woke up in bed next to Zhu Xiaoyao. Confused and panicked by her teasing that he was now "her man," he leaped out the window, only to encounter a distraught Bai Choufei and Wen Rou. Just then, Zhu Xiaoyao threw his clothes out the window after him. Enraged by the compromising scene, Wen Rou accosted Wang Xiaoshi, who feebly tried to explain that he had been drugged.

Having found Wang Xiaoshi, Bai Choufei returned to the gambling stall to check his fortune. Before he could read it, officials from the Ministry of Justice, led by Ren Lao, arrived and arrested both him and Wang Xiaoshi under orders from Minister Fu. After they were taken away, the stall owner revealed Bai Choufei's grim prophecy: "The Emperor Star is not in its place; the North Star has fallen to two sides.

The Greed Wolf Star eclipses the Seven Killings Star; how can the Heavenly Drum be heard?" Wang Xiaoshi and Bai Choufei were taken to the grim Ministry of Justice dungeon. Wang Xiaoshi was interrogated first by Fu Zongshu, the ruthless official in charge of the Capital's criminal law. Fu Zongshu recited Wang Xiaoshi's background—an orphan trained at Baixu Garden and the sole disciple of the Carefree Sect—and accused him of causing turmoil with the white jade box he had delivered.

Wang Xiaoshi retorted that those who believed they held power were the ones truly responsible. Unmoved, Fu Zongshu ordered him tortured. Despite the pain, Wang Xiaoshi defiantly maintained that his alliance with Su Mengzhen was coincidental and that he acted only out of a desire for justice, insisting his answer would remain the same no matter how many times he was asked.
