Heroes Episode 35 Recap
> Heroes Recap
After Recluse Tianyi's funeral was concluded, Official Liu prepared to depart with the crucial evidence for the Capital. Wen Rou, despite her profound grief, tried to conceal her sorrow when Wang Xiaoshi approached. He gently urged her to eat her noodles, reminding her that Recluse Tianyi had taught them to eat well to live well. Wen Rou watched him with a heavy heart as he forced himself to eat, his own tears flowing uncontrollably.
Wang Xiaoshi later found a farewell letter from Wen Rou. In it, she explained her departure, acknowledging that while he wouldn't blame her for Recluse Tianyi's death, she couldn't forgive herself. She felt that their shared pain, especially his forced cheerfulness to comfort her, would only deepen their emotional burden if they remained together. Believing their sorrow had become an unbearable "knot in their hearts," she chose to separate, hoping time would heal them.
She confessed that leaving him, her "most precious treasure" and the one who made her life vibrant and peaceful, required immense courage. Wang Xiaoshi, discovering her absence and the missing horse, understood she had used his own teachings about traveling in the snow to hide her trail and, given his status as a wanted man, accepted her difficult decision. As a wanted fugitive, Wang Xiaoshi initially intended to head beyond the border.
Along the northern road, he encountered Di Feijing, sitting silently, covered in snow, and without breath. After burying him, Wang Xiaoshi continued his journey. He reflected on the vastness of the land, realizing that while leaving might free him from external constraints, true freedom remained elusive if his heart held regrets. His path, his "jianghu," was not ahead, but behind him.
Accepting that what was meant to come would come, he turned his horse around, deciding to return and escort Official Liu to the Capital, prepared to face the formidable Chancellor Cai. Meanwhile, Su Mengzhen confessed to Yang Wuxie that Wang Xiaoshi's survival was his only remaining hope. Yang Wuxie expressed deep concern for Su Mengzhen’s rapidly deteriorating health, fearing he wouldn't survive long enough for Wang Xiaoshi's return to make a difference.
Su Mengzhen acknowledged Bai Choufei's fierce ambition and the inevitable confrontation, stating that besides himself, only Yang Wuxie could truly kill him. He then gave Yang Wuxie a crucial instruction: if he ever heard the phrase, "Standing alone, the three borders are quiet; for a single sword, one gives up their life lightly," Yang Wuxie was to kill him without hesitation.
Knowing his time was short, Su Mengzhen began sending his loyal followers away on various errands, subtly preparing for what was to come. Bai Choufei arrived at the House of Sunset Drizzle, armed with Chancellor Cai's order. He performed a "test" by miscounting the strokes of a character to justify his actions, overriding "heaven's will" and asserting that he only believed in himself.
While Bai Choufei made his preparations, Shi Wukui, realizing he had forgotten a necessary pass for an envoy, returned to the House, only to find it filled with Bai Choufei's men. He concealed himself to gather information. Bai Choufei entered Su Mengzhen's chambers and found him waiting calmly. Su Mengzhen, appearing frail and bloodless, explained he was born there and saw no reason to escape.
He challenged Bai Choufei, asking if he had failed him as a House Master or as a brother. Bai Choufei conceded his leadership was worthy but declared he coveted the title of "number one in jianghu" and had to eliminate him. He then bitterly accused Su Mengzhen of always favoring Wang Xiaoshi. As a final test, Su Mengzhen feigned weakness and begged for mercy. Bai Choufei’s unwavering resolve to kill him confirmed that Su's past decisions were correct.
With nothing left to say, Su Mengzhen drew his sword. Although Su Mengzhen’s martial arts were superior, his body was that of a dying man, making him no match for Bai Choufei. Bai Choufei plunged his dagger into Su Mengzhen's chest, leaving him unable to lift his sword. Bai Choufei gloated, calling Su Mengzhen both his "best rival" and "worst enemy." However, Su Mengzhen, despite his grievous wounds, managed to leap into a secret passage and disappear.
Enraged, Bai Choufei ordered his men to search every inch of the House of Sunset Drizzle. Shi Wukui was discovered and captured, but he steadfastly refused to reveal Su Mengzhen’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, Zhu Xiaoyao returned and informed Yang Wuxie that Bai Choufei had seized the House and killed Su Mengzhen, leaving Yang Wuxie devastated.
Bai Choufei, now the new House Master, ordered that the news of Su Mengzhen's death be spread publicly while launching a secret, intensive search for his body, declaring he must be found, "dead or alive." He further commanded that Su Mengzhen’s room be completely cleared, every possession burned, and even the tree outside his room chopped down. During this, a messenger mistakenly addressed Bai Choufei as "Vice House Master." Bai's enforcers, Ren Lao and Ren Yuan, executed the messenger on the spot. Bai Choufei then received a critical message from the messenger group: Wang Xiaoshi was alive.
