Following Wang Xiaoshi’s fall, Lei Chun confirmed his death with Chancellor Cai, who had received the news from Fang Yingkan via pigeon messenger the day prior. Lei Chun feigned surprise at the outcome, questioning how Fang Yingkan, who had never publicly displayed his skills, could defeat the formidable Wang Xiaoshi. Chancellor Cai explained that Fang Yingkan was a master of deception, a hidden expert whose martial arts could even rival Su Mengzhen's.

When asked if she was saddened by the loss of a former friend, Lei Chun coldly stated that her past was irrelevant since she chose to follow Cai. She was no longer friends with Wang Xiaoshi and felt no grief, only contemplating how to use the news to inflict pain on others. Chancellor Cai then visited Bai Choufei in prison, presenting his official seal and offering control over the martial arts world in exchange for Bai Choufei's allegiance.

Bai Choufei defiantly claimed he would seize what he desired on his own, but Cai reminded him of his powerlessness as a prisoner with nothing to his name. In response, Bai Choufei explained that while he never cared much for righteousness, meeting his brother in Xiliu had changed him, inspiring him to live with dignity. He declared that as long as his brother was alive, he was not truly without possessions.

Seizing on this, Cai revealed that this brother was Wang Xiaoshi and that he was now dead, leaving Bai Choufei utterly alone. The news shattered Bai Choufei, who broke down in tears, overwhelmed by memories of his friend. Meanwhile, the Divine Marquis sent a detailed map of the Ministry of Justice's dungeon to the Golden Wind and Drizzle Tower, allowing them to finalize their rescue plan for Bai Choufei.

The strategy was to substitute Bai Choufei with a corpse and set a fire, creating the illusion that he had perished during a chaotic jailbreak. Zhu Xiaoyao was assigned to lead the mission, assisted by Long Xiaoqing and Mo Beichen. However, the mission was soon overshadowed by the news of Wang Xiaoshi's death, which brought immense sorrow. Although the strategist Yang Wuxie tried to keep the news from Su Mengzhen, Su revealed he had already known since the previous night.

Deeply saddened, Su Mengzhen resolved to expedite Bai Choufei's rescue, believing it was what Wang Xiaoshi would have wanted. He recalled Bai Choufei's promise to his elders that he now had friends to care for him, reaffirming his commitment to their bond and hoping for their eventual reunion. Concurrently, Fang Yingkan held Wen Rou captive, callously informing her that Wang Xiaoshi had fallen into a ravine.

He recounted pushing someone into a similar cave at age twelve and waiting for three days to ensure they never returned, underscoring his cruelty. Though filled with grief and rage, Wen Rou forced herself to eat. That night, she attempted to escape but was caught by Fang Yingkan. Underestimating him as a mere playboy, she challenged him to a duel, promising to submit if she lost and demanding her freedom if she won.

Fang Yingkan accepted and revealed his formidable martial prowess, quickly defeating her. Wen Rou refused to yield and, remembering Wang Xiaoshi’s survival tips, threw rosin into the campfire. The resulting burst of flames provided enough cover for her to escape, though she was injured in the process. Genuinely concerned for her safety, Fang Yingkan immediately organized a search.

Following Wang Xiaoshi's advice on navigation, Wen Rou found her way back to the river, located her belongings, and used fabric to bandage her wound. The sight of Wang Xiaoshi's carving on a tree brought her to tears, but she refused to accept his death. She dragged her injured body back to the cliff where he had fallen, desperate for any sign of him. Deep within the valley, Wang Xiaoshi regained consciousness.

He saw the sheer cliffs and, upon discovering a skeleton, feared there was no exit. That night, he rested by a campfire and dreamed of an elder practicing swordplay. He awoke to find the surroundings identical to his dream, just as Wen Rou's voice echoed from above. Unable to climb out, Wang Xiaoshi reassured her and urged her to rest. Separated by the chasm but connected by the valley's acoustics, they spoke under the stars. Wen Rou confessed her love for him, and he reciprocated, promising to show her countless starry skies and to always stay by her side until they grew old together.
