Wanted posters for Wang Xiaoshi are spread across the martial arts world, with many seeking to capture him for the rewards. One day, Wang Xiaoshi and Wen Rou were at a tea stall when they were recognized by officers. Two men, Fang Henshao and Tang Baoniu, initially approached, claiming to be there to assist the officers in capturing Wang Xiaoshi, whom they outwardly praised for killing the corrupted official Fu Zongshu.
They offered to share the rewards with the officers in exchange for their help. As Wang Xiaoshi and Wen Rou attempted to leave discreetly, they were stopped. Wang Xiaoshi defiantly revealed himself. Unexpectedly, Fang Henshao and Tang Baoniu turned on the officers and killed them. They then introduced themselves to Wang Xiaoshi, expressing their admiration for his heroic act. Wang Xiaoshi thanked them, and he and Wen Rou continued on their journey.
Upon reaching Tianshan Town, Wang Xiaoshi and Wen Rou stopped to rest and buy provisions. As they ate at a noodle stall, they were approached by a group of constables. The lead constable, recognizing he was outmatched, stated he was only there to apprehend Wang Xiaoshi and that Wen Rou was free to leave. Infuriated, Wen Rou slammed the table, vowing to stand by Wang Xiaoshi. Knowing she would not abandon him, Wang Xiaoshi prepared to fight.
He declared that Wen Rou was his woman and that he had sworn to protect her forever. He proposed a deal to the lead constable: if the constable sought to arrest him, he must not involve Wen Rou; in turn, if Wang Xiaoshi were to kill the constable, he would not harm the constable’s men. Impressed by Wang Xiaoshi’s courage, the constable agreed to a one-on-one duel.
Wen Rou clutched Wang Xiaoshi's arm, fearing for his safety, but he gently moved her hand, reassuring her. The duel began, and before anyone could react, Wang Xiaoshi struck the constable. The injured constable accepted his defeat and allowed Wang Xiaoshi and Wen Rou to depart. Afterward, Wang Xiaoshi explained to Wen Rou that the constable had deliberately allowed himself to be injured.
He reasoned that as an imperial officer, the constable would face severe consequences if he returned to report empty-handed, especially since many heroes admired Wang Xiaoshi for killing Fu Zongshu. Just then, a noise came from outside. Wang Xiaoshi went to investigate and found the same constable from earlier. The constable revealed himself to be Nine-Manifestations Dragon, Qi Shaoshang, who was perfectly fine.
Qi Shaoshang explained that the Divine Marquis had sent him to guide Wang Xiaoshi, as Iron Fist had resigned from his position as one of the Four Great Constables, and he was temporarily filling in. Qi Shaoshang advised Wang Xiaoshi to head north towards the border, specifically to a place called Baimao Stronghold, where friends could help him cross. He warned that the journey would be long but emphasized that many people with noble aspirations were concerned for him.
Wang Xiaoshi inquired about Su Mengzhen, and Qi Shaoshang assured him that Su Mengzhen and the Divine Marquis were working together in the capital. Meanwhile, after Fu Zongshu’s death, his two former followers, Ren Lao and Ren Yuan, remained in the Ministry of Justice’s dungeon. When Bai Choufei was brought in, he was subjected to their torment.
Bai Choufei was bound to a bed as Ren Lao and Ren Yuan wet sheets of paper and plastered them onto his face, one after another, in a torture method known as "Tie Jia Guan". Bai Choufei struggled to breathe but refused to cry out. Just as he neared suffocation, the paper was removed, revealing Chancellor Cai. Seeing that Bai Choufei would not yield, Chancellor Cai ordered his men to administer a pill.
Shortly after taking it, Bai Choufei became disoriented. In his hallucinatory state, he saw a vision of Wang Xiaoshi, lifeless and hanging from a tree, which caused him to scream in anguish. Chancellor Cai was prepared to have Bai Choufei killed, but to his surprise, Bai Choufei suddenly awoke and violently killed Ren Lao and Ren Yuan. This unexpected defiance piqued Chancellor Cai’s interest.
Mo, Lei Chun's maid, witnessed Bai Choufei’s miserable state in the dungeon and felt a pang of heartache. However, Lei Chun sharply slapped her, angrily asking if the suffering of her father and the Six and a Half Hall was not worse. Following Lei Chun’s instructions, Mo went to the House of Sunset Drizzle to see Su Mengzhen, informing him of Bai Choufei’s dire condition.
She revealed that Bai Choufei was being fed raw meat and muddy water, forced to consume the Heart Devouring Pill, and was now a shell of his former self. Mo added that Lei Chun was pleased to see them suffer. Su Mengzhen, already unwell, was consumed by rage and collapsed upon hearing the news. Following Chancellor Cai's orders, torturers forced another Heart Devouring Pill down Bai Choufei's throat.
In his renewed hallucination, Bai Choufei saw Lei Chun, a faint smile touching his lips. But as he tried to approach her, the image of Su Mengzhen appeared. The vision of Lei Chun and Su Mengzhen kissing haunted his mind, causing him immense pain and leading him to collapse. Meanwhile, as Su Mengzhen began to recover, he expressed shame for being unable to help Bai Choufei. Realizing the gravity of the situation, he decided he had to act and instructed his assistant to arrange a meeting with Lei Chun, hoping to rescue Bai Choufei.
