The loss of a steady income left Guangming anxious, leading him to stay out late even after leaving the company. On their second wedding anniversary, Zhao Xiaorou waited up for him for hours, only for him to call and say he was tied up with a business dinner. The next morning, Xiaorou quietly turned off the alarm to let him sleep and hid the anniversary cake in the refrigerator.
To her surprise, Guangming was already awake and presented her with a gift. He confessed that he had been under immense pressure while handling the registration for their own new company, Mingjie. Hu Xiu shared her discovery with Xiao Zhiyu just before the Lyman Group’s celebration banquet.
She arrived at the event in her casual work clothes, feeling completely out of place. Sensing her discomfort, a colleague handed her a garment bag containing a stunning dress that Xiao Zhiyu had specially selected for her. When Hu Xiu re-emerged in the gown, she became the center of attention. Even Pei Zhen was struck by her transformation, jokingly remarking that it felt like another "beauty rescuing the hero" moment.
Seeing Xiao Zhiyu surrounded by persistent female guests, Hu Xiu stepped in to help him escape the crowd. Xiao Zhiyu, however, remained resolute, stating he didn't feel he had the right to pursue happiness until his father's name was cleared. On New Year’s Eve, Xiao Zhiyu wandered into the old alleyway where Hu Xiu lived.
He was spotted by Hu Xiu’s father, who noticed the young man was alone. Despite Xiao Zhiyu’s initial hesitation, the Hu family insisted on showing him hospitality, especially since he was Hu Xiu’s boss and their tenant. The atmosphere at the dinner table was warm, and the family even shared a video call with Zhao Xiaorou to exchange greetings.
During the meal, the family shared a tradition of hiding a black sugar filling inside one of the tangyuan for good luck. Xiao Zhiyu happened to find the lucky tangyuan, prompting the family to cheer and wish him a year of good fortune. As they toasted to the new year, the warmth of the Hu family provided Xiao Zhiyu with a rare moment of peace.
