Gan Yang woke up from sleeping in Ding Zhitong’s arms. Looking at the still-sleeping Ding Zhitong beside him, he felt deeply reluctant to part, as if he would never be able to see this girl again. He gently withdrew his arm from beneath her head, prepared breakfast for her, and began to pack his things to leave.

Ding Zhitong wanted to see him off, but Gan Yang didn’t want her to go through the trouble—after all, it was a rare chance for her to sleep in. He hoped she could get some proper rest. Thoughtfully, Gan Yang closed the door behind him, reminding her to rest more and telling her they’d meet again after the holiday. Ding Zhitong was filled with reluctance to part, holding back tears in her eyes.

Meanwhile, with the help of Song Mingmei as an intermediary, Baiting successfully secured a partnership with a client. Before going abroad, he invited Song Mingmei to dinner to express his gratitude. Gan Yang suspected that Gan Kunliang was deliberately trying to frame their mother.

The father and son broke into a fierce argument over this. Liu Yongjuan, distressed for her son, privately told Gan Yang that she had already transferred the house to his name ahead of time, hoping he could live his own life and not be entangled in adult disputes. Gan Yang kept watch at his mother’s bedside, looking at her motionless form.

He recalled how, after his father had been taken away by the police, all the burdens of the family had fallen on his mother. Debt collectors surrounded them, and life had been incredibly difficult. But his mother still scrimped and saved to buy him the best gifts. One night, she had taught him to run, and he had fallen in love with it. From that moment, Gan Yang swore to protect his mother and build a strong company.

This time, he blamed himself even more for failing to protect her. When Gan Kunliang arrived at the hospital, he showed no concern for Liu Yongjuan’s injuries. Instead, he demanded that Gan Yang hand over the company seal, insisting he would never harm Liu Yongjuan, yet didn’t show a trace of worry for her condition.

When he found out that Gan Yang intended to take over the company, he even used Ding Zhitong to threaten him, arrogantly claiming that no one could stop his plan. Gan Yang warned him to stay away from Ding Zhitong. Gan Kunliang laughed smugly, surprised that Gan Yang actually had something he feared. Just then, Long Mei brought even worse news: Fangshi Capital had issued a repurchase notice, demanding 150 million yuan. They only had half a month left.

Gan Yang quickly asked Long Mei to contact the bank to see if they could secure a loan. Other companies were also calling to demand payment. Gan Yang dealt with each issue one by one, then called Wang Yi to entrust him with the R&D responsibilities, knowing he wouldn’t be able to return to Shanghai anytime soon. Outside the hospital, unsure how to break the current situation to Ding Zhitong, Gan Yang received a video call from her.

She asked when he’d return to Shanghai. He almost told her he’d never go back but couldn’t bring himself to say it. He lied, saying his mother was ill and he had to stay and take care of her. Ding Zhitong asked about Liu Yongjuan’s condition with concern. Gan Yang brushed it off lightly and didn’t invite her to come. He promised to return in two months.

Ding Zhitong specifically reminded him that she’d come to pick him up when he did. Gan Yang’s eyes turned red, and the longing for Ding Zhitong surged once more in his heart.
