Feng Shizhen, looking disheveled and injured, was bandaged by her elder brother, Feng Shixun, at the hospital. He pressed her about her whereabouts, having heard on the radio about the robbers at the charity auction and knowing she had been with a Rong family member. He expressed that she felt like a stranger to him, prompting Feng Shizhen to agree to tell him everything that had happened.

Meanwhile, medical staff announced that Rong Dingkun's surgery was successful, and his condition was stable, though extensive blood loss and a lumbar spine injury would require observation to determine any long-term effects. Wu Yunchi learned that Rong Fanghua had been sent to the hospital and immediately rushed there. Rong Jiashang also returned home to learn about Fanghua's situation and immediately went to Red House Hospital.

There, Aunt Wang (Fanghua's mother), crying hysterically, blamed Rong Jiashang for taking Fanghua to the auction and failing to protect her. Wu Yunchi, however, stepped forward, admitting his failure to protect Fanghua and pledging to marry her. Rong Jiashang intervened, stopping his mother's emotional outburst and reminding her of Rong Dingkun's critical condition. Wu Yunchi reiterated his commitment to marrying Fanghua, confident his father would agree, as she was a daughter of the Rong family.

A nurse then informed them that Fanghua wished only to see Rong Jiashang. Rong Jiashang entered Fanghua's room. She wept, asking why this had happened to her. She explained that Meng Xu'an held a grudge against Rong Dingkun and sought to harm their family for revenge. Rong Jiashang promised to ensure she would not be hurt again and that the incident would remain a secret.

Fanghua then revealed that Feng Shizhen had saved her and brought her to the hospital, expressing her wish that Feng Shizhen were her own sister. Later, Rong Jiashang came to Feng Shizhen's hospital room. Feng Shixun desperately tried to stop him, but Rong family thugs subdued Feng Shixun. Rong Jiashang then saw Feng Shizhen sleeping.

His mind was filled with memories of their time together and Meng Xu'an's recent accusations, leading him to wonder if their relationship had been built on lies and if she was behind the mysterious events at the Rong family. In her sleep, Feng Shizhen dreamt that Rong Jiashang confronted her, accusing her of using him for revenge, of being deceitful and superficial like other women. He then turned and left, ignoring her desperate pleas.

Upon waking, Feng Shizhen asked Feng Shixun about Fanghua, who reassured her that Fanghua had been taken home by her family. Feng Shixun also explained that he had told their parents she had been in a minor car accident to avoid worry. Rong Jiashang brought Rong Fanghua home, where Rong Fanglin and Rong Jiashang's mother comforted Aunt Wang. Rong Jiashang's mother promised Rong Fanghua a grand wedding, but Rong Fanghua initially refused Wu Yunchi's proposal, not wanting his pity.

However, Rong Jiashang's mother and Rong Fanglin persuaded her, emphasizing that marrying someone she loved was a good thing, and the Rong family would support her against any mistreatment from Wu Yunchi, despite his reputation for being a bit of a playboy. At the Hashimoto residence, Hashimoto Shozo mourned the passing of Hashimoto Taiichi. He suspected Rong Dingkun of foul play at the auction, given his long-standing desire for their Gold Kylin.

Hashimoto Shiori vehemently defended Rong Dingkun to her father, claiming the Rong family were also victims, and implied the events were unrelated to them. However, in reality, she and Hashimoto Taiji had meticulously planned beforehand to secretly swap the Gold Kylin, confirming the one at the auction was a fake. Hashimoto Shozo, distraught, fell ill and remained bedridden, allowing Hashimoto Shiori to seize control of the family affairs. The Du family initiated the termination of the engagement with Rong Jiashang.

Rong Jiashang, after completing the procedures, then visited Du Lanxin. Du Lanxin, who had been slapped by her enraged father, causing a miscarriage, was in despair, lamenting her choice to love the wrong person. Rong Jiashang informed her he had returned the bride-price to her personal account through a lawyer, suggesting it would be useful for her future and her inheritance claims. He also gave her a sum of money for any urgent needs.

Du Lanxin, realizing his integrity, acknowledged him as a good person, expressing regret that she lacked the fortune to be with him. When she inquired about Yang Xiucheng, Rong Jiashang characterized him as a selfish and indifferent man, much like Rong Dingkun, and advised her that being free of Yang Xiucheng would be better for her. Yang Xiucheng attempted to escape Shanghai but was intercepted by Rong Fanglin.

She drove him to the dock, expressing her long-standing unrequited love for him. She wished him well in Japan, hoping he would find what he truly desired, while he wished her a wonderful life. After he exited the car, Rong Fanglin leaned on the steering wheel, weeping, as she watched him go. As Yang Xiucheng queued to board a ship at the dock, he noticed a wanted poster with his own likeness, prompting him to quickly flee the area.

Feng Shizhen, having recovered from her injuries, packed her belongings for a trip to Peking. Feng Shixun expressed concern about her traveling alone amidst the escalating conflict between the Rong and Meng families, fearing she might be implicated. He advised her to wait until the situation calmed down and to be careful on her journey, reminding her to dress warmly in Peking and emphasizing that only family would not hurt or betray her.

Xiao Baoli then arrived to visit Feng Shizhen. She revealed that Rong Dingkun was still alive but in a coma at Renji Hospital, adding that his easy death would not have been satisfying. Xiao Baoli also informed Feng Shizhen that Rong Jiashang had covertly raided one of Meng Xu'an's underground banks and donated all the proceeds to the Foundling Home and various mission hospitals.

Feng Shizhen reflected that her time with Rong Jiashang felt like a dream and decided to move on from him, wanting only to return to her simple life as a governess, as her days of borrowed glamor were over. Xiao Baoli, on behalf of Meng Xu'an, presented Feng Shizhen with a red jade bracelet.

Feng Shizhen asked Xiao Baoli to convey her thanks to Meng Xu'an, acknowledging their differing viewpoints but expressing gratitude for his past help and his decision not to harm her. The next morning, Feng Shixun accompanied Feng Shizhen to the railway station, reiterating his concerns for her safety and asking her to send telegrams from Nanjing and Tianjin to confirm her arrival. Feng Shizhen then boarded the northbound train.

Meanwhile, Rong Jiashang visited Feng Shizhen's former room, discovering a coat with a missing button in a box beneath her bed. A sudden realization struck him as he recalled finding an identical button at a crime scene, confirming that Feng Shizhen was the one who had secretly saved him.
