> Blossoms in Adversity Recap

Fudong’s father, Liang Fugui, sold her in order to buy another camel hump. After hearing Fudong’s story, Hua Zhi hugged her with heartache. Gu Yanxi discovered some white powder under Gu Chengtao’s pillow, so he called the imperial physician to inspect it. They found a sachet inside the pillow. Changqing explained that it had been added because Gu Chengtao had long suffered from insomnia.

As for the current state of the emperor’s coma, Imperial Physician Zhang speculated that some unknown poison had reacted with the medicated pillow, and since the toxin was unidentified, there was no way to formulate an antidote without risking adverse effects. Shen Huan secretly came to see Shao Yao, who was troubled over Hua Zhi’s upcoming competition. Shen Huan smiled and said he could help, instantly lighting up Shao Yao’s face.

The two of them went to Hua Zhi’s restaurant and ordered a full table of dishes until Shen Huan spent all the money he had. Seeing they couldn’t finish the food, Hua Zhi asked Shao Yao to take the leftovers to Daxiangguo Temple for the needy. Liang Fugui came to find Fudong, apologizing and pretending to be emotional, asking her to bring the recipes from the Hua family’s shop and go home with him.

Fudong firmly refused him and went to Hua Zhi, saying she wanted Liang Fugui to understand that she was not livestock—she was a person. Fudong tied on her apron and returned to the kitchen, declaring that the current menu boards featuring the chefs’ signature dishes would be removed and the dishes changed. Head chef Qian exploded in anger upon hearing this.

He believed Fudong, just a maid, had no right to boss around experienced professionals like them and repeatedly mocked her for cutting her finger earlier. Fudong said nothing, walked up to the chopping board, and demonstrated her knife skills, instantly silencing Chef Qian. The other chefs began to see her in a new light, and Fudong shared the new dishes she wanted to prepare and instructed them to start prepping the ingredients.

Hua Zhi was gratified to see how much Fudong had grown. Sure enough, after changing the menu, Hua Ji’s customer traffic increased, as did the number of votes. Hua Zhi brought the unsold buns and roast chicken from the day to the beggars on the street and suddenly noticed a child hiding nearby, clearly hungry but too afraid to approach. She placed the food next to him. That child was the Sixth Prince.

He noticed the flower emblem on the carriage Hua Zhi had arrived in. Bai Mingxia personally came to investigate Hua Ji and found the food genuinely delicious. He then came to the kitchen bearing lavish gifts, offering triple the monthly salary and a residence to recruit Fudong. Fudong flatly rejected him. Bai Mingxia was deeply moved when he saw her cook the leftover ingredients and distribute the food to beggars, and he began to share stories from his own past.

Fudong was about to give some food to the Sixth Prince when a group of masked men in black suddenly appeared on the street, grabbing any children they saw. Amid the chaos, the Sixth Prince escaped. When Hua Zhi found out, she used her drink delivery method to pass a message to Gu Yanxi. After reading the note, Gu Yanxi went to see Hua Zhi.

Once he learned about the black-clad men abducting beggar children, Gu Yanxi hugged Hua Zhi, apologized, and then turned to leave. Gu Yanxi deployed all of the Qixiu Guards to search the streets, the more grandiose the operation, the better. Upon hearing this, Prince Xian, Gu Yan Gong, felt he could no longer sit idly by. He ordered his men to increase their search efforts for the Sixth Prince and to ensure they found him before the Qixiu Guards did.

If, unfortunately, the Qixiu Guards got to the prince first, then they must prevent him from speaking at all costs. Hua Zhi and Fudong once again brought food to the beggars and heard the sound of hooves from the black-clad men. As they prepared to return to the carriage, they unexpectedly found someone had snuck inside. Hua Zhi saw that it was the timid little beggar and pushed him back into the carriage, taking him home.

As soon as the Sixth Prince entered the house, he crawled under the bed and refused to come out. Even Shao Yao’s coaxing didn’t help. Hua Zhi said that if he didn’t come out, there would be no food, and upon hearing that, he obediently crawled out. Shao Yao examined his injuries and found handprints on his neck. Hua Zhi realized this was no simple matter and quickly instructed everyone not to say a word.
