Lang Yuexuan and Gu Haitang resolve to resolutely fight Shi Jizhou. Lang Yuexuan begins checking Lang Lichun's accounts late into the night, aiming to uncover the reasons for the losses. Lang Yueming hurries to stop him, implicitly suggesting Lang Yuexuan has ulterior motives, threatening him by stating that Lang Sinian is in grave danger, and forcibly driving him away. Despite this, Lang Yuexuan maintains his desire to persuade Lang Yueming, who remains stubbornly misled.
Meanwhile, Deputy Officer Hu and his men surround Lang Sinian and Uncle Quan. Uncle Quan skillfully creates a decoy by dressing a family member in robes and a hat. He bravely lures the soldiers away, drawing their pursuit, and jumps off a cliff. The soldiers, mistakenly believing both Uncle Quan and Lang Sinian have died, fire several shots into the mountain before retreating. Deputy Officer Hu immediately reports Lang Sinian's supposed death to Shi Jizhou.
He then suggests eliminating both Lang Yuexuan and Lang Yueming, but Shi Jizhou plans to exploit the brothers' conflict to his own advantage. Deputy Officer Hu then conspires with Shi Jizhou to eliminate Long Deshui, and they quickly agree on this plan. It is revealed that Deputy Officer Hu, allied with Deputy Officer Ma, has also bought off all of the Marshal's subordinates, effectively sidelining the Marshal.
In the Lang household, Miaolan, dressed in red, attempts to leave as a "rouge ghost" to frighten Feng Chunyan (also referred to as Lang Taitai and He Chunyan in one account) but is caught in the act by her. Feng Chunyan scolds Miaolan, who retorts by condemning Feng Chunyan for not treating her as a human.
Miaolan expresses her deep weariness with her "neither human nor ghost" existence, her desire to die, and her refusal to continue guarding a cold memorial tablet. She kneels and pleads with Feng Chunyan to let her leave the Lang family, threatening to die if refused.
Feng Chunyan, reflecting on her own difficult life as a "living widow" despite being Lang Sinian's wife, enduring sleepless nights, understands Miaolan's despair, particularly as Miaolan is only 20 years old and does not wish to waste her life. Feng Chunyan agrees to Miaolan's request, asking her to comb her hair one last time.
During this emotional moment, Feng Chunyan apologizes to Miaolan, admitting she had not considered her feelings, and they both shed tears, recalling their mutual companionship despite Feng Chunyan's occasional emotional outbursts towards Miaolan. Although Lang Yueming initially dismisses the gravity of the situation, believing Shi Jizhou was helping him, he reluctantly goes to Shi Jizhou to demand the land deed back. Shi Jizhou refuses to return the deed, instead demanding the "Furong Paste" formula and repayment of the loan with interest. Lang Yueming then realizes he has been manipulated. Shi Jizhou openly expresses his disdain for Lang Yueming, asserting his inferiority and inability to compare to Lang Yuexuan.
Lang Yueming is thoroughly enraged by Shi Jizhou's insults and vows revenge. Meanwhile, Lang Yuexuan sits idly, lost in thought in Haitang Garden. Long Mohua visits him, offering her assistance, having learned that her father is involved in the recent troubles facing the Lang family. Lang Yuexuan initially declines, not wanting to involve her, but Mohua's persistence, combined with his genuine need for help, leads him to accept.
Lang Yuexuan asks Long Mohua to secure 50,000 yuan to finally bring down Shi Jizhou, and she readily agrees to provide the sum. Long Mohua then takes the opportunity to ask Lang Yuexuan for a kiss, but he steadfastly refuses, stating his commitment to his beloved and his responsibility to his own love. Shi Jizhou initially dismisses the request, citing a full order book and asking Boss Hu to wait patiently, but Boss Hu offers to purchase and distribute all available Furong Paste. Shi Jizhou, wary of Boss Hu's identity, agrees to discuss further on another day and secretly dispatches Steward Fu to investigate Boss Hu's background. Boss Hu expresses concern that Shi Jizhou is exceptionally cunning and that Lang Yuexuan may not be his match.
Lang Yuexuan instructs Boss Hu to offer Shi Jizhou a substantial deposit of 50,000 yuan as an enticement. Driven by greed, Shi Jizhou immediately agrees to cooperate with Boss Hu. Steward Fu then passes the order to Gu Haitang, pressing her to expedite production with the workers. Gu Haitang, sensing something amiss, approaches Lang Yuexuan, who reveals the truth behind the large order.
Lang Yuexuan instructs Gu Haitang to cease supervising at Shi Hanglu (Shi Jizhou's workshop/company) and leave so Shi Jizhou cannot find her. He explains that the Furong Paste raw materials are expensive, and the secret formula lacks a crucial step, making production impossible without Gu Haitang. If Shi Jizhou cannot fulfill the contract due to Gu Haitang's absence, he will face crippling breach-of-contract penalties that could bankrupt him.
Shi Jizhou invests all his resources to purchase the necessary raw materials for the Furong Paste. Unexpectedly, numerous customers appear at Shi Hanglu, demanding refunds and claiming the Furong Paste is problematic or fake. Panicked and distraught, Shi Jizhou immediately sends people to find Gu Haitang, who had previously assured him the Furong Paste had been developed/was ready but has now been absent all morning. As Lang Yuexuan walks Gu Haitang home, they share a farewell embrace.
This scene is witnessed by a furious Lang Yueming, who is consumed by jealousy. After Lang Yuexuan drives away, Lang Yueming seizes the opportunity and uses a sedative to drug Gu Haitang.
