Gu Haitang and Gu Xiahe encountered Han Ruibin, with Gu Haitang agreeing to let her mother, Mrs. Gu, provide free makeup services for Han Ruibin’s father. Mrs. Gu was initially captivated by the bustling street, and Gu Haitang promised to take her out again. At Han Ruibin’s home, Mrs. Gu and Gu Haitang learned they were to apply makeup to a living person, Han Ruibin’s father, who wished to see his appearance after death.

Gu Haitang deemed this absurd and attempted to leave, but Han Ruibin knelt and tearfully pleaded, explaining his difficult circumstances and his father's limited time, expressing his desire to fulfill filial piety. Mrs. Gu and Gu Haitang softened and agreed, with Mrs. Gu applying a special Furong paste which the old man praised highly.

On their way back, Mrs. Gu suddenly recalled the secret to the Furong paste, and Gu Haitang quickly wrote it down, but Mrs. Gu was then startled and forgot everything. At school, Lang Qingqing heard classmates spreading rumors about Gu Xiahe's family doing makeup for the dead, but she remained unfazed. Gu Xiahe explained the meaning of life and death, emphasizing respect for the deceased, which led Lang Qingqing to call him a philosopher.

Han Ruibin scraped the Furong paste from his father's face and delivered it to Shi Jizhou, who immediately ordered it to be analyzed for its ingredients. Shi Jizhou reflected on his past, revealing he had murdered Gu Shunqi to steal his formula, specifically the Furong paste recipe. However, the copy he obtained was incomplete, missing crucial pages. After the analysis, he realized some ingredients remained unidentified, but he deduced that Gu Haitang was Gu Shunqi's daughter.

Shi Jizhou planned to leverage Gu Haitang to complete the missing two pages of the formula, aiming to utterly ruin Lang Sinian and his business, Lang Li Chun. His wife, Mrs. Shi, advised against such heinous acts, but Shi Jizhou remained unrepentant and determined. Meanwhile, Shi Jizhou pressured his son, Shi Diwen, to pursue Long Mohua, but Shi Diwen asserted that Long Mohua only harbored feelings for Lang Yuexuan. Enraged, Shi Jizhou threw a teacup, injuring Shi Diwen's forehead.

Commander Long Deshui, Long Mohua's father, promised to help her marry Lang Yuexuan but warned her not to interfere with his methods, causing Long Mohua anxiety. Shi Diwen brought snacks to Commander Long, and Long Mohua attempted to invite Shi Diwen inside to talk, but Commander Long deemed it inappropriate for an unmarried man and woman, prompting Shi Diwen to find an excuse to leave. Long Mohua chased after Shi Diwen to explain.

Shi Diwen, understanding Commander Long's protective concern for his daughter, advised Long Mohua not to mind. Shi Diwen confided his troubles to Long Mohua, who comforted him. Noticing his forehead injury, she learned it was inflicted by Shi Jizhou due to their situation. She thanked Shi Diwen for his unwavering presence, and he seized the opportunity to confess his feelings. Long Mohua, however, reiterated that her heart belonged solely to Lang Yuexuan.

Later, Long Mohua, heartbroken, decided to forget Lang Yuexuan. She invited Shi Diwen on a bike ride. Despite Shi Diwen's warnings, she rode downhill recklessly and fell. As Shi Diwen helped her up, Long Mohua had a realization: she would no longer pursue an unrequited love and intended to live openly like Shi Diwen, caring for Lang Yuexuan but not forcing their relationship. They then rode off together, talking and laughing.

Shi Jizhou seized Lang Sinian's prime shop location in the busiest district by offering triple the rent, leaving Lang Sinian distraught and suspecting Shi Jizhou's involvement. However, Lang Yuexuan brought good news: a large order of lipsticks had been placed by merchants who approved the samples, an amount equivalent to half of Lang Li Chun's annual sales. Lang Sinian was relieved and revealed to his wife, Feng Chunyan, that Gu Haitang and Lang Yuexuan had jointly developed this successful lipstick.

He urged Feng Chunyan to overcome her prejudice against Gu Haitang so everyone could work together to help Lang Li Chun. Lang Yueming also pledged his full support to Lang Yuexuan. Lang Yuexuan later explained his actions to Feng Chunyan, assuring her he had good intentions, and she agreed to let Gu Haitang help, but warned Lang Yuexuan not to get romantically involved with her, to which he reluctantly agreed. Meanwhile, Lang Yueming intentionally ordered several barrels of synthetic oil.

When the delivery arrived, he tore up the delivery slip, claiming the order was wrong, but told the workers there was no need to return the oil and gave them compensation for their trouble. Subsequently, Lang Yueming covertly mixed the synthetic oil with the large barrels of pure plant oil, sabotaging the product.
