Lang Yueming, feeling a deep lack of trust from Lang Sinian and believing he could never measure up to Lang Yuexuan, sought business counsel from Shi Jizhou (also referred to as Shi Boss). Shi Jizhou encouraged Lang Yueming's ambition, proposing that he execute an unexpected plan to surprise Lang Sinian, and they began collaborating on various business and perfume-related matters. Meanwhile, Lang Yuexuan, escorting a drunk Shi Diwen home, unexpectedly saw Lang Yueming leaving the Shi residence.
Recalling remarks made by Shi Diwen, Lang Yuexuan's suspicions were aroused. Overwhelmed with distress, Lang Yuexuan confided in Gu Haitang, feeling like a profound failure for not adequately protecting her and causing sadness to his parents. Gu Haitang comforted him, urging him not to bear all the blame and offering to share his burdens. Lang Yuexuan vowed that he would never again allow Gu Haitang to suffer sadness or injustice.

He confronted Lang Yueming, who falsely claimed he had sold the "Oriental Perfume" to unknown distributors and small merchants, advising Lang Yuexuan to cease his inquiry.
Miaolan, however, overheard Lang Yueming's confession that he had lied about the distribution and that his actions, including his involvement with Gu Haitang's school, were primarily driven by a desire to provoke Lang Yuexuan's jealousy. Despite Gu Haitang's initial skepticism regarding Lang Yuexuan's suspicions about Lang Yueming, Lang Yuexuan remained deeply unsettled, determined to uncover the truth and clear Gu Haitang's name. Miaolan, having secretly followed Lang Yuexuan, reported these developments to Lang Yueming, cautioning him to be careful.
Lang Yueming, confident in his flawless execution and believing Lang Yuexuan was forever indebted to him, dismissed the warning. Instead, he instructed Miaolan to swiftly inform Feng Chunyan (also referred to as Lang Madam or He Chunyan) that Lang Yuexuan and Gu Haitang were still seeing each other, hoping to use this information to force their separation. Separately, Fan Zhen offered to help Gu Haitang establish a beauty school, suggesting her own courtyard as a temporary location.
However, Lang Yueming purchased a villa and insisted on presenting it to Gu Haitang as the permanent site for her school, leaving no room for refusal. Meanwhile, Gu Haitang returned home to find her mother deeply saddened by the death of a neighboring aunt, who had no family to manage her funeral arrangements. Executing Lang Yueming's plan, Miaolan arranged for Feng Chunyan to pass by Gu Haitang's house in Mingluo Alley, ostensibly to consult a monk about her headaches, precisely when the funeral procession was underway.
