Xin Qiao, an internal spy, grows increasingly uneasy, suspecting that Gu Haitang and Master Shang are intentionally orchestrating events. Fearing exposure, she wishes to leave the Lang family, but Shi Jizhou, unwilling to cease his efforts, compels her to stay. He promises her and her father substantial rewards if she continues to monitor the Lang family's movements, aiming to dismantle them entirely, and advises her to temporarily avoid direct meetings with him.
Meanwhile, a sick Lang Yuexuan is being cared for by Miao Lan. In his delirium, Lang Yuexuan mistakes Miao Lan for Gu Haitang and clutches her hand. Miao Lan, filled with joy, does not pull away but tightens her grip, attempting to embrace him. However, Feng Chunyan, Lang Sinian's wife, catches them in the act. Gu Haitang and Lang Yueming arrive shortly after. Miao Lan desperately tries to defend herself, and Gu Haitang also speaks in her favor.
Feng Chunyan, ignoring their pleas, scolds Miao Lan severely and threatens to write her a divorce letter, expelling her from the family. Miao Lan, who has lived with the Lang family since childhood and would have no means of survival outside, pleads tearfully for mercy. Feng Chunyan, though eventually softening, acknowledges Miao Lan's underlying intentions and instead confines her.

Enraged, Long Deshui, a powerful figure, immediately leads his men to the business association, publicly arrests Shi Jizhou, violently smashes Shi Jizhou's "Shi Hanglu" shop, and impounds all the goods at his pier. Shi Diwen, Shi Jizhou's son, rushes home to learn that Hua Jili is returning all merchandise and that Long Deshui has ordered all the impounded "Shi Hanglu" goods to be burned. Shi Diwen attempts to intervene, but Lang Yuexuan restrains him.
At home, Long Deshui is consumed by a somber mood, believing he is being punished for breaking a past oath, potentially related to his strong desire for a male heir. His daughter, Long Mohua, tries to comfort him by cooking and reassuring him, providing some solace to his grief. Desperate, Shi Diwen kneels before Lang Yuexuan, pleading for his help in getting Lang Sinian to secure his father's release.
Lang Yuexuan, unable to resist Shi Diwen's persistent entreaties, reluctantly agrees to consider it. Lang Yueming reports Shi Jizhou's predicament to Lang Sinian, who expresses mixed emotions, regretting the destruction of the "Hongyan Rouge." Lang Yuexuan then approaches Lang Sinian, asking him to intercede for Shi Jizhou, arguing that Shi Jizhou's crime does not warrant death and the incident negatively impacts the reputation of "Hongyan Rouge." Lang Sinian initially refuses his request.
In prison, Shi Jizhou secretly gives his butler a letter for Lang Sinian, containing only the words "headpin." Upon receiving it, Lang Sinian is furious, realizing Shi Jizhou is using a past secret as blackmail. While Lang Sinian is contemplating his options, Lang Yuexuan reinforces his plea, emphasizing that the reputation of "Hongyan Rouge" is of paramount importance.
After careful deliberation, Lang Sinian agrees to help, but with a specific task for Shi Diwen: to prepare a large sum of money from the Shi family. Lang Sinian personally visits Long Deshui, calmly explaining the implications and persuading him to spare Shi Jizhou to preserve his good public reputation. Coupled with the substantial money offered by the Shi family, Long Deshui reluctantly agrees to release Shi Jizhou.
During this period, Lang Yuexuan isolates himself in a glasshouse within Haitang Garden, dedicating his efforts to researching and developing substitutes for musk in fragrances. Shi Jizhou is soon released due to Lang Sinian's intervention. Met by Shi Diwen and Shi Furen, he refuses to go home, instead confronting Xin Qiao directly.
Believing that the Lang family orchestrated his downfall, Shi Jizhou coercively orders Xin Qiao to plant a bottle of explosives in Lang Lichun's research lab, specifically targeting the new fixative research. Xin Qiao is terrified and unwilling to cause fatalities, but Shi Jizhou threatens her father, forcing her to compromise.
Gu Haitang visits Lang Yuexuan in his glasshouse retreat, expressing her frustration over the lack of evidence against the spy and highlighting the urgent need for Lang Yuexuan to develop a new fixative. She urges him to stop hiding and actively assist the Lang family in catching the internal spy. Lang Yuexuan attempts to explain his actions, but Gu Haitang, unconvinced and angry, leaves without looking back.
