Lang Yueming returned home beaten and bruised by government soldiers, his face swollen, and the shell mask given to him by Gu Haitang shattered. While his mother, Feng Chunyan, was distressed by his injuries, Lang Yueming only regretted the broken mask. Meanwhile, Gu Haitang was imprisoned, accused of poisoning Yi Rongrong. Her brother, Gu Xiahe, visited her, revealing that Lang Qingqing had poisoned Yi Rongrong and suggesting Lang Qingqing should confess to free Gu Haitang.
However, Gu Haitang firmly refused, believing it would ruin Lang Qingqing's life and further incriminate the Lang family. The police chief found Lang Yueming's confession credible, and Long Deshui vowed to kill Lang Yueming as retribution if Yi Rongrong died.
