Deputy Officer Hu and Yi Rongrong are deeply in love, but Hu is compelled by his superior, Long Deshui, to ask Yi Rongrong to accept Long Deshui's invitation for a meeting. Yi Rongrong reluctantly agrees, asking Hu to protect her during the encounter. At the banquet, Long Deshui expresses his admiration for Yi Rongrong's beauty, giving her a valuable ruby ring as he intends to propose.
Long Deshui then asks Hu if Yi Rongrong is betrothed, to which Hu falsely replies no, much to Yi Rongrong's silent fury. Yi Rongrong states that her father must make the final decision. Long Deshui then declares his intention to personally visit Director Yi, Yi Rongrong's father, to formally propose marriage. Meanwhile, Gu Haitang instinctively believes the Ice Crystal Qilin is located at Broken Head Cliff on Yangming Mountain and expresses her desire to search there again.
Fanzhen, aware of the treacherous terrain, tries to dissuade her, but Gu Haitang is resolute. After Gu Haitang departs, Fanzhen anxiously reports the situation to Lang Yuexuan, who immediately drives off to follow her. Gu Haitang endures great hardship to reach the cliff and successfully collects the Ice Crystal Qilin. Overjoyed, she suddenly slips, stepping on loose rocks, and falls into a ravine, losing consciousness. Back at the workshop, Long Mohua arrives looking for Gu Haitang.
Xinqiao intentionally misleads her, stating that Gu Haitang and Lang Yuexuan left together, which infuriates Long Mohua before she departs. Gu Haitang later awakens, finding herself in a glass house, which Lang Yuexuan reveals is his other home. Lang Yuexuan repeatedly scolds her for her dangerous adventure. Gu Haitang asks to see the Ice Crystal Qilin, which Lang Yuexuan promptly retrieves for her.
Gu Haitang and Lang Yuexuan then plant the Ice Crystal Qilin in the garden adjacent to the glass house, hoping its blossoms will heal Lang Yueming's facial injury. As Lang Yuexuan wipes dirt from Gu Haitang's hands with a handkerchief, their eyes meet, and both feel a mutual thrill, causing Gu Haitang to shy away. Lang Yuexuan later escorts Gu Haitang back to the Lang family's attic late in the evening.
As Gu Haitang returns his jacket, Lang Yuexuan reluctantly watches her depart. Miaolan witnesses this scene and is filled with deep resentment towards Gu Haitang. Yi Rongrong, unwilling to marry Long Deshui, discusses eloping with Deputy Officer Hu. However, Hu claims the timing is not yet right, citing unfinished business, and urges her to wait patiently.
Long Deshui, grateful for Hu's loyal service over the years, decides to promote him to an officer in a frontline unit and provide him with money and land, encouraging him to settle down. Hu attempts to confess his love for Yi Rongrong, but before he can, the butler presents the wedding gift list for the Yi family, prompting Long Deshui to immediately finalize his decision to marry Yi Rongrong. The next day, Miaolan encounters Long Mohua on the street.
Feigning congratulations regarding Long Mohua's relationship with Lang Yuexuan, Miaolan proceeds to maliciously gossip about Gu Haitang, claiming that she and Lang Yuexuan are unusually close, constantly together, and even returned home together last night, with Gu Haitang wearing Lang Yuexuan's clothes. Initially disbelieving, Long Mohua grows worried about the implications for the Lang family's reputation after Miaolan's suggestions, and Miaolan advises her to see for herself.
Long Mohua follows Gu Haitang to the garden where the Ice Crystal Qilin is planted (also referred to as Haitang Garden or the Broken Head Cliff area), where she finds Gu Haitang and Lang Yuexuan tending to the plant, with Gu Haitang asking Lang Yuexuan to grind other ingredients. Enraged by what she perceives as a romantic encounter, Long Mohua slaps Gu Haitang, accusing her of deception and seducing Lang Yuexuan.
Lang Yuexuan intervenes, stopping Long Mohua and explaining that feelings cannot be forced, angrily stating he never harbored feelings for Long Mohua and advising her to abandon her hopes. Long Mohua, distraught, calls them both liars and flees in anger. Lang Yuexuan attempts to comfort Gu Haitang, urging her not to take Long Mohua's words to heart. Gu Haitang, however, is too exhausted by the events.
She expresses her sole desire to see the Ice Crystal Qilin bloom, so she can cure Lang Yueming's face and permanently sever ties with the Lang family. Lang Yuexuan feels profoundly upset by her words, regretting how he has changed the once happy Gu Haitang. Overwhelmed with sorrow and a sense of betrayal, Gu Haitang blames Lang Yuexuan for deceiving her, pouring out all her grievances.
Lang Yuexuan tightly holds her hand, repeatedly apologizing, but Gu Haitang, unyielding, refuses to forgive him and forces him to leave. Alone, Gu Haitang continues to weep. As her bitter tears fall upon the Ice Crystal Qilin she holds, it instantly blossoms into a vibrant flower. Gu Haitang is both astonished and delighted, realizing that the coldest thing in the world is, in fact, her own bitter tears. Later that night, Deputy Officer Hu visits Yi Rongrong, proposing they elope.
However, Yi Rongrong expresses concern that an elopement would offer no guaranteed future security. She ultimately decides to marry Long Deshui, unwilling to burden her parents or jeopardize Hu's career, choosing to sacrifice their love to protect both families. Hu departs regretfully. Gu Haitang harvests the Ice Crystal Qilin flower and dedicates herself day and night in the laboratory to formulate a scar-removing ointment. Lang Yuexuan watches over her silently, his heart filled with tenderness.
After Gu Haitang's relentless efforts, she successfully creates the ointment. Long Deshui, with lavish gifts, arrives at the Yi family to propose, and despite Director Yi's hesitations about Long Deshui's multiple concubines, Long Deshui guarantees Yi Rongrong will be his main wife and manage all his vast family wealth, thereby setting the engagement without Director Yi's full agreement.
Yi Rongrong, seeing Hu's silence beside her during the proposal, is furious, but later back in her room, contemplating the ring and the prospect of family wealth, she feels conflicted. Feng Chunyan (Madame Lang), though hesitant due to potential side effects, considers testing its efficacy. Lang Yueming, however, volunteers to be the first to try it, expressing his complete trust in Gu Haitang.
