> Bright Eyes in the Dark Recap
Yu Qilei receives a call from his wife, Milan, who urges him to finalize his resignation. She explains that his father has already made arrangements with a new company, which is eager for him to join and has a project lined up for him. Milan adds that their daughter, Miaomiao, is overjoyed at the prospect of him coming home and constantly asks when he will return.
As Yu Qilei expresses his sorrow over his absences, a fire alert sounds for Linglong Community, forcing him to abruptly end the call. When he prepares to respond, Station Director Lin Luxiao intervenes, telling Yu Qilei to take a rest and assuming leadership of the dispatch himself. The firefighters arrive at Linglong Community and quickly extinguish a fire in a trash heap. During the cleanup, Unit Leader Lei Dagang injures his back while moving trash cans.
While recovering, he encounters his childhood friend, Chen Yilong, who is visiting his mother. They briefly catch up, with Chen Yilong, who now runs a small business, speculating that the fire was caused by an improperly extinguished cigarette butt. After Lei Dagang introduces Lin Luxiao, Chen Yilong offers to treat the team to a meal soon. As he drives away in an expensive car, the other firefighters marvel at his apparent success.
Instructor Yang Zhengang holds a meeting to discuss a proposal for a special firefighting-themed TV program. Most of the firefighters are enthusiastic, seeing it as a great opportunity to showcase their skills and promote fire safety. However, one member voices skepticism, viewing it as a potential distraction. When asked for his opinion, Lin Luxiao curtly dismisses the idea, stating that the station must prioritize training above all else. He abruptly ends the meeting, leaving the team confused.
Yang Zhengang assures them he will speak with Lin Luxiao. Privately, Yang Zhengang questions Lin Luxiao about his harsh opposition to the show. Lin Luxiao reveals his frustration is rooted in the news that Yu Qilei plans to resign, which he takes as a personal failure of leadership.
He confides in Yang about the immense difficulty of Yu Qilei's situation, highlighting how he rarely gets to go home, missed his daughter Miaomiao's birth, and couldn't be there for her during a recent illness. Lin Luxiao expresses both understanding for Yu Qilei's decision and guilt for not better supporting his team's family lives. Shaken by the news, Yang Zhengang decides to speak with Yu Qilei.
However, when he finds him working late, he feels unable to broach the sensitive topic and leaves after a brief, awkward chat about the weather. Lin Qi expresses his career frustrations to Nan Chu, lamenting that since signing with his agency, he has been relegated to commercial appearances with no time to practice his violin.
He admits that his international awards mean little in the domestic market and that he is too ashamed to tell his brother, Lin Luxiao, who funded his studies. He reveals his only reason for complying is the company's promise to arrange a solo recital. He then proposes collaborating with Nan Chu for the recital by integrating her dance performances, an idea she eagerly accepts, provided his company agrees.
Lin Qi's manager, Mr. Ma, angrily reprimands him for getting into a fight that led to police involvement, questioning his fitness for a recital. He dismisses Lin Qi's proposal to collaborate with Nan Chu's dance troupe, citing the additional costs. Instead, Mr. Ma insists Lin Qi attend a business dinner that evening, claiming it is essential for securing support for the recital. At the dinner, Mr. Ma repeatedly pressures a hesitant Lin Qi to drink with a client, Mr. Chen.
Despite his low alcohol tolerance, Lin Qi is forced to drink heavily to network for his career. After the dinner, a heavily intoxicated Lin Qi discovers he has lost his keys and calls his brother for help. Lin Luxiao finds him severely drunk and takes him home. Seeing his brother suffering from a stomach ache, Lin Luxiao expresses his concern and cooks him a bowl of noodles before returning to the station, reminding him that his health is paramount.
When Lin Qi wakes up later, he finds the meal and is moved by his brother's unwavering care. Chairman Han of an entertainment company discusses a new project with his associate, Shen Guangzong. He reveals that Mr. Jiang of Zhige Entertainment, part of the Fude Group, is producing a firefighting-themed show and has specifically requested their star artist, Xu Zhiyi. While noting Mr. Jiang's inexperience, Chairman Han sees an opportunity to promote a newer artist alongside Xu Zhiyi.
Shen Guangzong recommends Nan Chu, arguing that as a fresh face, she is well-suited for a reality show format, which is a good platform to build her public image. He also notes the financial logic, as the company needs to recoup the large signing fee they paid for her. Shen Guangzong informs Nan Chu about the firefighting show but warns her that the producer is Jiang Ge, with whom she has a history of conflict.
As predicted, when Shen Guangzong tries to persuade Jiang Ge to cast Nan Chu, he is met with a firm refusal. Jiang Ge states that he holds a grudge and will not have her on the show, even threatening to withdraw Xu Zhiyi if Chairman Han insists. Afterward, Shen Guangzong lectures Nan Chu about the importance of professional relationships and how her past actions have jeopardized this opportunity.
After learning of Jiang Ge's rejection, Nan Chu is summoned by Chairman Han. He reminds her of the company's significant financial investment in her and emphasizes that her own efforts are crucial to her success. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, Nan Chu intercepts Jiang Ge. She clarifies that while she doesn't believe she was wrong in their past encounter, she sincerely apologizes for the negative public repercussions it had on him and his family.
When he dismisses her as just a dancer, she reveals a powerful personal story: five years ago, she was rescued from a fire by a firefighter. She argues this near-death experience gives her a unique and profound understanding that perfectly aligns with his vision for an authentic, documentary-style program. Moved by her passionate plea and compelling story, Jiang Ge agrees to cast her, later confirming the decision with Chairman Han after negotiating a resource-sharing deal.
Liu Ruyi discovers Yu Qilei's resignation letter and becomes furious, labeling him a "deserter." At dinner, he publicly confronts Yu Qilei, accusing him of planning to abandon the team. Yu Qilei calmly acknowledges his intention to resign but rejects the label of deserter. He emotionally explains that he simply misses his family, especially his daughter Miaomiao.
He speaks of the immense debt he feels towards his wife for her sacrifices and expresses his desire to be a good husband and father in addition to being a good firefighter. The revelation divides the team, and Liu Ruyi underscores his disapproval by pointedly refusing to give Yu Qilei a drink later. Following the confrontation, Lei Dagang finds Lin Luxiao mopping the floors and offers him a beverage.
He explains the drinks are a gift from his childhood friend, Chen Yilong, who now runs a food processing plant. Lin Luxiao firmly upholds disciplinary rules, insisting the gift cannot be accepted and that Chen Yilong must be reimbursed. Lei Dagang agrees to handle it. The conversation then turns to Yu Qilei's departure. Lei Dagang expresses sadness but also understanding.
When Lin Luxiao asks about his own family, Lei Dagang admits that while they are well, he is stressed about finding a good school for his son, revealing his own share of family pressures. Separately, Instructor Yang Zhengang provides a fire safety lesson, demonstrating the proper use of an ABC dry powder fire extinguisher.
He explains it is effective against solid, liquid, gas, and electrical fires and outlines the four key steps for operation: position oneself upwind, pull the safety pin, aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, and squeeze the handle while sweeping from side to side.
