Bright Eyes in the Dark Synopsis

With his excellent fire-fighting skills and extensive fire-fighting experience, Lin Luxiao is the Chief of the Special Duty Station in Beixun.

By chance, he was chosen to be an instructor for a reality show that aims to educate people about firefighting.

During the program, Lin Luxiao meets Nan Chu, a dancer whom he saved from a fire many years ago.

Nan Chu is attracted to Lin, but Lin is reluctant to approach her because he is aware of the dangers of his profession.

A new generation of young and brave firefighters, such as Shao Yixing and Qin Shiquan, are emerging, and Lou Minye, who has brought back advanced equipment and technology from abroad, has also returned to the fire brigade.

The three generations of firefighters, old, middle-aged, and young, have worked together in fire, earthquake, and aerial rescue and other disaster rescues, raising the level of fire safety in Beixun City to a new level.

Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao are also getting to know each other better. Faced with the most dangerous forest fire, Lin and his teammates still choose to go against the fire.

Bright Eyes in the Dark Recap

Episode 1 Recap

In 2014, a large fire erupted in a residential building in Binxi District. The fire spread rapidly, trapping residents inside. Firefighters from Special Division Squadron One were dispatched to the tenth floor to search for and rescue the trapped. One firefighter located a frightened girl and, despite the surrounding smoke and fire, comforted her, promising to get her out safely. Later that year, on August 3, 2014, a 6. 9 magnitude earthquake struck Minshi County, Beixun City.

The epicenter was near Jingde Secondary School, where many students were trapped under collapsed buildings. Firefighters from the Beixun City Public Security Fire Brigade Special Division, including Lin Luxiao, Lou Mingye, and their captain Meng Guohong, were dispatched to the school. Upon arrival, Captain Meng reported to the Command Center and was instructed to proceed to the school, with a warning to be cautious of aftershocks and secondary collapses.

Due to the uncertain stability of the debris, heavy equipment was not used, and the teams began a manual search, listening for sounds of survivors. Lin Luxiao and his team began digging through the rubble and discovered two students trapped, one positioned above the other. As they prepared to move debris, a structural engineer named Yu Qilei, who was on a business trip nearby, intervened.

He offered his expertise to identify the correct order for removing debris to prevent a further collapse, pointing out critical support points that needed reinforcement. Under Yu's guidance and with the use of a stay bar to support the unstable structure, the team successfully rescued both students. Ten hours after the earthquake, rescue efforts continued under difficult conditions. As teams rotated for rest, Lin Luxiao heard the faint sound of a child singing.

He reported it to Meng Guohong, who advised him to remember the sound but not be distracted, emphasizing the critical nature of the next forty-eight hours and the need to focus on saving one person at a time. Rescuers faced the grim reality of finding many victims who had not survived, but they pressed on, determined to find those still alive.

Thirty-eight hours into the rescue, Lin Luxiao could still hear the persistent singing, convinced a child was waiting for them. The team located the source of the sound, but the opening to the space was too narrow for more than one person. Lin Luxiao volunteered to go in alone with a rope, while his teammates provided support at the entrance.

Inside, he found a seriously injured boy who said his eyes were not working and asked about his sister, whom Lin reassured was safe. As Lin Luxiao worked to free the child, a strong aftershock struck. His teammates, prioritizing his safety, began pulling him out with the rope despite his desperate pleas for a few more seconds. He was forced to watch as the debris collapsed, burying the child he was trying to save.

Distraught, Lin Luxiao was pulled to safety while a teammate reminded him to calm down, as other people were still waiting to be rescued. Later, during a rest period, Lin Luxiao spoke with Xu Jianfei from the Nanbin City Fire Brigade. Xu shared a lesson from his own mentor: sometimes, even when a rescuer does everything right, they can still be faced with helplessness.

He stressed that a firefighter cannot afford to dwell on disappointment but must get up and continue the mission, as they are the last hope for many. While they can't save everyone, they can always try to save one more. Encouraged by Xu's words, Lin Luxiao rallied his spirits to continue the rescue efforts within the crucial seventy-two-hour golden window. Following the operation, Meng Guohong held a debriefing.

He asked Lin Luxiao to apologize to Lou Mingye for losing his emotional control at the scene. Lin Luxiao apologized, but Lou Mingye dismissed it, stating that the mission had exposed serious shortcomings, including insufficient training and a lack of self-protection awareness among some members, which led to reckless rescue attempts. He argued that a firefighter's duty is scientific and rational rescue, not trading one life for another.

Lin Luxiao countered that their duty is to protect the people and be ready for sacrifice. Meng Guohong stopped the argument, stating that this was an ongoing debate they would both have to find their own answers to in their future careers. After the meeting, Lou Mingye applied for a study abroad opportunity offered by the brigade.

Meanwhile, a young woman named Nan Chu arrived at the Nanbin City Fire Brigade, searching for the firefighter who had saved her from the 2014 residential fire, whom she could only identify by his serial number, 1120. Coincidentally, Lin Luxiao was also there to return a fire suit he had mistakenly taken from Xu Jianfei. At the station, Nan Chu learned that serial number 1120 belonged to Xu Jianfei.

To her sorrow, she was told that he had tragically died in the recent earthquake rescue operation, and she would never be able to thank him in person. Four years later, in 2019, Lin Luxiao was the Director of the Heping Road Special Division Station, with Yu Qilei serving as his deputy. They responded to a high-rise incident where an intoxicated man was threatening to jump from a ledge where an air cushion could not be deployed.

Lin Luxiao devised an unconventional plan. He brought a case of beer and engaged the man from a distance, drinking with him and playing a finger-guessing game. The tactic successfully distracted the man, allowing the team to move in and secure him safely. Shortly after, Lou Mingye, now an Inspector with the Beixun City Fire and Rescue Brigade, arrived on the scene. He immediately criticized Lin Luxiao for violating several regulations during the rescue.

Lin defended his actions, arguing that the priority was saving the man's life, which the extreme circumstances required. Lou, however, insisted that Lin's public actions as a leader had broader implications and informed him that his performance was insufficient to be considered for an "excellent director" award. He warned Lin Luxiao to be careful, stating that he would be watching him closely.

Episode 2 Recap

Lin Luxiao visited Yu Qilei at his home while in town for a training exchange. After Yu Qilei thanked him for the opportunity to have assisted the firefighters in the past, Lin Luxiao directly asked him to consider joining the fire brigade. Lin Luxiao reminded Yu Qilei that he had witnessed him immediately stepping up to rescue people during the earthquake, noting that Yu Qilei is the kind of person who instinctively rushes into danger because he enjoys the feeling.

He argued that Yu Qilei’s professional expertise would be best utilized in firefighting and expressed his hope that Yu Qilei would become his comrade. Yang Zhengang expressed frustration with Lin Luxiao over a recent rescue where Lin broke regulations, urging him to focus on his work and aim for the title of Outstanding Director.

Stressing the importance of maintaining a positive public image, Yang showed Lin a video that had circulated online of firefighters eating takeout on the street after a mission. The video had stirred controversy, forcing Yang to write a report to his superiors who felt the incident reflected poorly on the station's discipline. To address the issue, Lin Luxiao called a meeting and proposed establishing a supply depot within the station so firefighters could get food after returning from late missions.

He clarified that the depot would not use station funds; instead, members would replenish whatever they consumed. With the team's enthusiastic support, Yang Zhengang consented, emphasizing the need for proper nutrition. Liu Ruyi was assigned to write a report on the initiative for their superiors, and the "Blue Friends Supply Depot" was officially established. Meanwhile, Nan Chu, a dancer, declined an offer from an entertainment company, stating she had no interest in becoming a celebrity.

Later, she discussed the financial struggles of her dance troupe with her colleagues. With dwindling income and members leaving, some felt they should disband. Nan Chu, however, was determined to save the club and offered to help raise funds, though the others remained discouraged. Yang Zhengang introduced two new recruits, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan, to Lin Luxiao, who immediately recognized them as two youths he had rescued during the earthquake.

Lin warned them against hero worship, noting that many who join for similar reasons become disillusioned. In response, Shao Yijiu stated his goal was to become a great firefighter like Lin. Qin Shiquan explained that the earthquake had left them orphans, and after being saved by firefighters, they vowed to become qualified firefighters themselves, and eventually an outstanding director like Lin, to save more lives. Lin acknowledged their ambition and advised them to prove themselves through action.

An alarm reported a fire at the Wenhua Cultural Center, the location of Nan Chu's dance studio. Lin Luxiao's team found no fire upon arrival. The landlord appeared, blaming the dancers and demanding they move out for being six months behind on rent. After confirming there were no fire hazards and reviewing security footage, Lin Luxiao deduced the landlord had made a false report to evict her tenants.

He sternly warned her about wasting public resources and had the police called to investigate. Nan Chu thanked Lin for his help. While returning, the team was dispatched to a construction site where a junk collector had fallen into a flooded sublevel. Liu Ruyi volunteered for the rescue, successfully pulling the man to safety. However, after untying his own safety rope to aid the victim, the floor beneath him gave way, and he fell deeper into the water.

Lin Luxiao immediately dove in and rescued Liu Ruyi, who was later embarrassed by his mistake. Back at the station, the new recruits met their roommates: technical expert Yu Qilei and squad leader Liu Ruyi. In the dorm, they saw Liu Ruyi revising his will. He explained it was a common practice for firefighters.

When the recruits declared their readiness for sacrifice, Liu firmly corrected them, stating that their job was not to be reckless heroes but to obey orders and prioritize their own safety to be able to save others. Yu Qilei video-called his wife, Milan, who told him their daughter, Miaomiao, still had a fever. Guilt-ridden for being unable to be there, Yu explained his leave was canceled to cover for a colleague.

Milan expressed her disappointment and again urged him to accept a safer, higher-paying structural engineer job offer. She added that for a school essay about an activity with her father, Miaomiao couldn't think of a single memory, pressing him to consider the new job for their daughter's sake. Overhearing the call, Lin Luxiao offered to trade his upcoming leave with Yu Qilei, allowing him to go home. Later that night, an alarm woke Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan.

They rushed out, expecting a mission, but were instead greeted by the entire team in the vehicle bay for a surprise welcome ceremony, complete with a cake. A senior officer officially welcomed them to the Heping Road Special Division. Moved to tears, the two recruits declared that the station was now their home and the team their family.

Episode 3 Recap

Facing financial difficulties, Nan Chu arranged to have her apartment sublet, hoping to get back three months' rent. With her luggage, she moved into the Dream Dance Club for the time being. She assured her senior, the club's director, that she would find performance opportunities at events like openings and weddings to earn money and keep the club afloat. That evening, the director treated everyone to a farewell dinner.

He confessed to Nan Chu that while the dance club was his dream, the financial reality was too much to bear. Believing Nan Chu had the passion and determination he now lacked, he asked her to take over the club, as it was the only way he could leave with peace of mind. Soon after, the landlady arrived demanding rent and revealed that the director, Le Zhiwei, had disappeared.

Nan Chu stepped up, signing an IOU for the outstanding debt of over 290,000 yuan and promising to pay it within a week. Desperate, she contacted Shen Guangzong of Beiyao Entertainment to arrange a meeting. The next day at the film studio, Nan Chu ran into Xi Gu, a makeup artist who had previously worked with the Dream Dance Club. Xi Gu praised the troupe's avant-garde style and encouraged her to persevere, strengthening Nan Chu's resolve.

In her meeting with Shen Guangzong, Nan Chu agreed to sign with Beiyao Entertainment on two conditions: a 300,000 yuan advance and the freedom to continue dancing. After a call with Chairman Han, Nan Chu secured the advance by agreeing to a ten-year contract with a reduced share of project earnings. She was officially signed and successfully requested that Xi Gu be assigned as her makeup artist and assistant.

During a shoot, a fire broke out when a large number of smoke bombs ignited. Nan Chu, Shen Guangzong, and others were trapped in a room, forced to seal the door seams with wet clothes to block the smoke. Lin Luxiao and his team from the Heping Road Special Service Station arrived to conduct the rescue. As Nan Chu was losing consciousness from smoke inhalation, Lin Luxiao broke into the room and carried her to safety.

Before being taken by medics, she clearly saw his face. Meanwhile, rookie firefighters Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan, who were ordered to only observe, disobeyed Lin Luxiao and entered the building to help. They rescued a trapped man, but Shao Yijiu suffered from smoke inhalation after giving his breathing apparatus to the victim and was sent to the hospital. At the hospital, Nan Chu was approached by Xu Zhiyi, another artist who was wary of the new competition.

Shen Guangzong quickly intervened and dismissed her. Later, Nan Chu found Lin Luxiao and thanked him. She revealed that a firefighter had also saved her five years prior, but that he had later died in the line of duty. She expressed her sincere hope that all firefighters return safely from their missions. They formally introduced themselves. Following the incident, Inspector Lou Mingye visited the fire station.

He criticized Lin Luxiao's command, demanded a self-criticism report, and revoked the station's eligibility for the annual awards. The news enraged Assistant Station Chief Liu Ruyi, who initially blamed the rookies. After they apologized, Liu clarified he wasn't angry at them personally. He explained that he trains relentlessly because he fears death, a fear that paradoxically makes him brave. He told the rookies that the station is his family and that to save others, they must first learn to respect death and cherish their own lives.

Episode 4 Recap

During a meeting, Lin Luxiao publicly criticized Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan for their basic firefighting errors, stating that fire rescue is not a place for them to show off. Shao Yijiu admitted their fault, explaining they just wanted to save people, referencing how Lin Luxiao had rescued them during an earthquake years ago, and asked for another chance. Lin Luxiao instructed them to copy the fire rescue manual three times each, hoping they would learn from the experience.

Yu Qilei gave Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan a summary of his work experience, and Shao Yijiu, acknowledging Yu Qilei's expertise in structural engineering, asked to be taught by him. Instructor Yang Zhengang also spoke with the two, comforting them after the reprimand. He encouraged them to understand Lin Luxiao's perspective, explaining that the earthquake had been a significant blow to him.

Yang Zhengang emphasized that while their desire to be heroes is commendable, it cannot be based on individualism, and as firefighters, their priority must be to follow discipline and fulfill their duties. Later, Yang Zhengang visited Lin Luxiao, bringing him a dessert. He mentioned Shao Yijiu reminded him of a younger Lin Luxiao and that Qin Shiquan had the potential to be a commander. Yang suggested finding them a master and proposed that Lin Luxiao personally take them on.

Lin Luxiao was initially reluctant, citing his busy schedule. However, Yang persisted, arguing that since Lin Luxiao had eaten the dessert he brought, he couldn't refuse. Despite Lin Luxiao's other concerns, Yang took his silent acquiescence as agreement. Lin Luxiao then summoned Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan. They immediately apologized again, explaining that while copying the manual, they realized how reckless they had been and that they could have become a burden.

Acknowledging their remorse, Lin Luxiao explained the station's tradition of experienced members guiding new ones. He announced that due to their unique circumstances, he would personally mentor them, instructing them to come to him with any questions and to follow his direct orders on missions. They gratefully accepted, calling him their "Master." Meanwhile, Jiang Ge returned from abroad.

At the airport, his assistant informed him that his father, the Chairman, was transforming the company to focus on entertainment and showed him a list of artists. Jiang Ge was surprised to see Lin Qi's photo. A flashback revealed an incident in Milan where a drunk Jiang Ge had aggressively demanded a 'laobing' (Chinese flatbread) at an Italian restaurant. Nan Chu and Lin Qi, who worked there, intervened, and the confrontation ended with Nan Chu calling the police.

Holding a grudge, Jiang Ge decided to find Lin Qi under the pretense of discussing a cooperation. Jiang Ge went to see his father, who criticized his irresponsibility and the Milan incident, questioning a hand injury Jiang Ge sustained while canyoning. Jiang Ge defended his passion for extreme sports, listing his skills in wilderness survival and even a high-altitude rescue certification. His father dismissed these as excuses for incompetence.

To train him, his father assigned him a project: overseeing a collaboration with the fire department for a fire prevention educational program. Jiang Ge initially refused, but his father threatened to cut him off financially. Jiang Ge reluctantly agreed, insisting he would implement the project with his own unique ideas. Back at the dance studio, Nan Chu informed her members that the rent issue was resolved and they could focus on the upcoming modern dance competition.

When some worried she might not dance with them as much after signing with an entertainment company, Nan Chu reassured them that dancing was her primary passion and she would not abandon them or the Dream Dance Club. The group decided to celebrate her new "side job" with a meal. Lin Qi called Nan Chu, inviting her to Jiangse Bar for a welcome-home meal.

When Nan Chu arrived, she found Lin Qi being confronted by Jiang Ge, who accused him of getting him in trouble with the police in Milan over a simple 'laobing.' Seeing the situation escalate, Nan Chu decisively called the police again, to Jiang Ge's exasperation. At the police station, Lin Qi ran into an officer who was an acquaintance of his brother and was mortified when the officer called his brother to pick him up.

Nan Chu, learning that Lin Qi's brother was the handsome firefighter who had saved her twice, tried to reassure him. Lin Luxiao arrived to sign them out. As they were leaving, Nan Chu received a call from Shen Guangzong, warning her that paparazzi were outside, targeting Jiang Ge. Realizing she couldn't be photographed in a scandal, Nan Chu asked Lin Luxiao and Lin Qi for help to leave discreetly. Outside, an enraged Jiang Ge confronted the paparazzi.

Later, Lin Luxiao and Lin Qi had hot pot together. Lin Qi explained the incident at the bar was a misunderstanding and clarified that he and Nan Chu were just good friends who met in Milan. He shared that he had signed with a company and was preparing for a solo recital, making Lin Luxiao proud. They discussed their father's nagging, and Lin Luxiao suggested they visit their mother's grave together during his next leave, which Lin Qi agreed to.

Meanwhile, Meng Guohong called Lin Luxiao and Yang Zhengang to discuss a television program that wanted to feature firefighters, proposing the Heping Road Special Service Station. Yang Zhengang was enthusiastic, arguing it would promote the image of firefighters and educate the public on fire safety. Lin Luxiao was staunchly against it, arguing they were too busy and short-staffed, viewing such programs as an unproductive disruption. Seeing their conflicting opinions, Meng Guohong told them to return and reach a consensus.

At the station, Shao Yijiu challenged Yu Qilei to a game of Jenga, making a bet with Liu Ruyi over chores. He lost effortlessly. A colleague then revealed an unofficial station rule: never play Jenga with Yu Qilei. When asked, Yu Qilei, who had never lost, explained that for him, pulling the wrong block was akin to a mistake in structural engineering—a mistake that could cost lives. Deeply impressed, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan asked Yu Qilei to teach them about structural engineering.

Episode 5 Recap

Yu Qilei receives a call from his wife, Milan, who urges him to finalize his resignation. She explains that his father has already made arrangements with a new company, which is eager for him to join and has a project lined up for him. Milan adds that their daughter, Miaomiao, is overjoyed at the prospect of him coming home and constantly asks when he will return.

As Yu Qilei expresses his sorrow over his absences, a fire alert sounds for Linglong Community, forcing him to abruptly end the call. When he prepares to respond, Station Director Lin Luxiao intervenes, telling Yu Qilei to take a rest and assuming leadership of the dispatch himself. The firefighters arrive at Linglong Community and quickly extinguish a fire in a trash heap. During the cleanup, Unit Leader Lei Dagang injures his back while moving trash cans.

While recovering, he encounters his childhood friend, Chen Yilong, who is visiting his mother. They briefly catch up, with Chen Yilong, who now runs a small business, speculating that the fire was caused by an improperly extinguished cigarette butt. After Lei Dagang introduces Lin Luxiao, Chen Yilong offers to treat the team to a meal soon. As he drives away in an expensive car, the other firefighters marvel at his apparent success.

Instructor Yang Zhengang holds a meeting to discuss a proposal for a special firefighting-themed TV program. Most of the firefighters are enthusiastic, seeing it as a great opportunity to showcase their skills and promote fire safety. However, one member voices skepticism, viewing it as a potential distraction. When asked for his opinion, Lin Luxiao curtly dismisses the idea, stating that the station must prioritize training above all else. He abruptly ends the meeting, leaving the team confused.

Yang Zhengang assures them he will speak with Lin Luxiao. Privately, Yang Zhengang questions Lin Luxiao about his harsh opposition to the show. Lin Luxiao reveals his frustration is rooted in the news that Yu Qilei plans to resign, which he takes as a personal failure of leadership.

He confides in Yang about the immense difficulty of Yu Qilei's situation, highlighting how he rarely gets to go home, missed his daughter Miaomiao's birth, and couldn't be there for her during a recent illness. Lin Luxiao expresses both understanding for Yu Qilei's decision and guilt for not better supporting his team's family lives. Shaken by the news, Yang Zhengang decides to speak with Yu Qilei.

However, when he finds him working late, he feels unable to broach the sensitive topic and leaves after a brief, awkward chat about the weather. Lin Qi expresses his career frustrations to Nan Chu, lamenting that since signing with his agency, he has been relegated to commercial appearances with no time to practice his violin.

He admits that his international awards mean little in the domestic market and that he is too ashamed to tell his brother, Lin Luxiao, who funded his studies. He reveals his only reason for complying is the company's promise to arrange a solo recital. He then proposes collaborating with Nan Chu for the recital by integrating her dance performances, an idea she eagerly accepts, provided his company agrees.

Lin Qi's manager, Mr. Ma, angrily reprimands him for getting into a fight that led to police involvement, questioning his fitness for a recital. He dismisses Lin Qi's proposal to collaborate with Nan Chu's dance troupe, citing the additional costs. Instead, Mr. Ma insists Lin Qi attend a business dinner that evening, claiming it is essential for securing support for the recital. At the dinner, Mr. Ma repeatedly pressures a hesitant Lin Qi to drink with a client, Mr. Chen.

Despite his low alcohol tolerance, Lin Qi is forced to drink heavily to network for his career. After the dinner, a heavily intoxicated Lin Qi discovers he has lost his keys and calls his brother for help. Lin Luxiao finds him severely drunk and takes him home. Seeing his brother suffering from a stomach ache, Lin Luxiao expresses his concern and cooks him a bowl of noodles before returning to the station, reminding him that his health is paramount.

When Lin Qi wakes up later, he finds the meal and is moved by his brother's unwavering care. Chairman Han of an entertainment company discusses a new project with his associate, Shen Guangzong. He reveals that Mr. Jiang of Zhige Entertainment, part of the Fude Group, is producing a firefighting-themed show and has specifically requested their star artist, Xu Zhiyi. While noting Mr. Jiang's inexperience, Chairman Han sees an opportunity to promote a newer artist alongside Xu Zhiyi.

Shen Guangzong recommends Nan Chu, arguing that as a fresh face, she is well-suited for a reality show format, which is a good platform to build her public image. He also notes the financial logic, as the company needs to recoup the large signing fee they paid for her. Shen Guangzong informs Nan Chu about the firefighting show but warns her that the producer is Jiang Ge, with whom she has a history of conflict.

As predicted, when Shen Guangzong tries to persuade Jiang Ge to cast Nan Chu, he is met with a firm refusal. Jiang Ge states that he holds a grudge and will not have her on the show, even threatening to withdraw Xu Zhiyi if Chairman Han insists. Afterward, Shen Guangzong lectures Nan Chu about the importance of professional relationships and how her past actions have jeopardized this opportunity.

After learning of Jiang Ge's rejection, Nan Chu is summoned by Chairman Han. He reminds her of the company's significant financial investment in her and emphasizes that her own efforts are crucial to her success. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, Nan Chu intercepts Jiang Ge. She clarifies that while she doesn't believe she was wrong in their past encounter, she sincerely apologizes for the negative public repercussions it had on him and his family.

When he dismisses her as just a dancer, she reveals a powerful personal story: five years ago, she was rescued from a fire by a firefighter. She argues this near-death experience gives her a unique and profound understanding that perfectly aligns with his vision for an authentic, documentary-style program. Moved by her passionate plea and compelling story, Jiang Ge agrees to cast her, later confirming the decision with Chairman Han after negotiating a resource-sharing deal.

Liu Ruyi discovers Yu Qilei's resignation letter and becomes furious, labeling him a "deserter." At dinner, he publicly confronts Yu Qilei, accusing him of planning to abandon the team. Yu Qilei calmly acknowledges his intention to resign but rejects the label of deserter. He emotionally explains that he simply misses his family, especially his daughter Miaomiao.

He speaks of the immense debt he feels towards his wife for her sacrifices and expresses his desire to be a good husband and father in addition to being a good firefighter. The revelation divides the team, and Liu Ruyi underscores his disapproval by pointedly refusing to give Yu Qilei a drink later. Following the confrontation, Lei Dagang finds Lin Luxiao mopping the floors and offers him a beverage.

He explains the drinks are a gift from his childhood friend, Chen Yilong, who now runs a food processing plant. Lin Luxiao firmly upholds disciplinary rules, insisting the gift cannot be accepted and that Chen Yilong must be reimbursed. Lei Dagang agrees to handle it. The conversation then turns to Yu Qilei's departure. Lei Dagang expresses sadness but also understanding.

When Lin Luxiao asks about his own family, Lei Dagang admits that while they are well, he is stressed about finding a good school for his son, revealing his own share of family pressures. Separately, Instructor Yang Zhengang provides a fire safety lesson, demonstrating the proper use of an ABC dry powder fire extinguisher.

He explains it is effective against solid, liquid, gas, and electrical fires and outlines the four key steps for operation: position oneself upwind, pull the safety pin, aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, and squeeze the handle while sweeping from side to side.

Episode 6 Recap

Everyone at the station is aware that Yu Qilei plans to leave. Yang Zhengang discusses the matter with Lin Luxiao, suggesting they hold a proper farewell party. He also uses the situation to argue for participating in the firefighting reality show, reasoning that if even firefighters' families don't fully understand their work, it's crucial to show the public what their job truly entails.

Lin Luxiao has a heart-to-heart with Yu Qilei, who admits that while he loves being a firefighter, he feels overwhelmed by personal problems he can't solve. Lin acknowledges that life must be more than just work and assures Yu that whatever he decides, the team will support him. Later, a guilt-ridden Liu Ruyi writes an apology letter to Yu, expressing his support and poignantly stating that should anything happen to him, he trusts Yu Qilei to handle his will.

Meng Guohong introduces the program's producer, Jiang Ge, to Lin Luxiao and Yang Zhengang. Lin sets strict conditions for filming: it must not interfere with regular duties, spread misinformation, or disobey command. Jiang Ge agrees, explaining the show will be an unscripted documentary with guests fully embedded with the firefighters. He also reveals the top-performing guest will be cast as the lead in his company's next drama.

Meng later tells Lin that the pragmatic Lou Mingye was the one who suggested their station for the show. Lin confides in Meng that despite his best efforts, he feels he's not doing enough as a station director. Meng advises him to practice empathy, sharing a regretful story of a promising firefighter who had to leave the service due to an illness that wasn't detected in time.

Lou Mingye, meanwhile, sees the show as a chance to prove Lin's training methods are outdated and hopes the experience will force Lin to confront this. As filming approaches, the firefighters humorously start paying more attention to their appearance. The guests for the show, "Flaming Youth," arrive, and Lin Luxiao is stunned to see dancer Nan Chu among them. Immediately, an alarm sounds for a fire, and Lin's team rushes out, leaving Yang Zhengang to handle the new arrivals.

Two guests, Yan Dai and Xu Zhiyi, immediately complain about the sun, but Yang firmly instructs them to put away their phones and umbrellas and forget their celebrity identities. When Lin Luxiao returns, he addresses the guests as their chief coach, demanding absolute obedience and discipline. Jiang Ge, hoping to create on-screen conflict, is frustrated by Lin's strict control.

During training, Nan Chu learns from firefighters Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan that they were inspired to join the service after Lin rescued them from an earthquake as children. Later, Nan Chu discreetly sends her assistant, Xi Gu, away after another guest, Xu Zhiyi, begins ordering her around. At dinner, Lin publicly reprimands Yan Dai and Xu Zhiyi for being late and stops Jiang Ge from conducting interviews, enforcing the no-talking rule in the canteen.

Noticing Nan Chu is eating very little, he warns her that she'll collapse during training if she doesn't eat properly. Afterwards, Lin organizes a wire-cutting drill. Jiang Ge complains that such basic training isn't telegenic and suggests focusing on high-tech equipment. Lin challenges him to try the drill; Jiang Ge fails repeatedly.

Lin then flawlessly demonstrates, explaining that while the training seems mundane, a millimeter's error in a real situation can cost a life, demanding that they show respect for the profession. Sobered, the guests apply themselves more seriously. However, during a fire extinguisher exercise, Nan Chu freezes when faced with the flames, paralyzed by the memory of a house fire five years ago. Knowing her trauma, Lin holds back his anger.

He confronts Jiang Ge for not doing proper background checks on the guests. Jiang Ge callously dismisses his concerns, arguing that Nan Chu overcoming her fear would make for compelling television. Enraged that his life-and-death profession is being treated as a "show," Lin Luxiao furiously calls off the filming and orders the entire crew to leave the station.

Episode 7 Recap

Feeling stomach pain from hunger at night, Nan Chu asked Xi Gu if she had any food. Xi Gu led her to a hidden snack supply station used by the firefighters, where they found snacks. Nan Chu worried that if the show stopped filming, it would affect Xi Gu's income. Although Xi Gu had recently moved out and was short on funds, she expressed confidence that Nan Chu would soon find new work.

Xi Gu received a notice for a crew meeting and left. Hearing the noise, Lin Luxiao came to the snack station to check and found Nan Chu. Nan Chu explained she was looking for food because her stomach hurt. Lin Luxiao told Nan Chu not to take his own sharp words from earlier to heart.

Nan Chu clarified that she didn't blame him and also absolved Jiang Ge, explaining it was her own fault for not having informed the crew about her phobia beforehand. Lin Luxiao asked Nan Chu why she joined the show if she was afraid of fire. Nan Chu explained that she wouldn't be alive today if a firefighter hadn't saved her from a fire years ago. She recounted being trapped in her bedroom and rescued just as she was losing consciousness.

Sadly, she never had the chance to thank him in person. Because of this experience, she felt a special connection to the firefighting profession and wanted to join the show to learn, believing it was meaningful. Nan Chu assured him she would overcome her fear and asked for his trust, promising to do her best. He offered her a snack to eat later.

Meanwhile, Yan Dai and Xu Zhiyi, believing the show was over, were already making plans for their next engagements. The next day, contrary to expectations, Lin Luxiao had the artists observe a real rescue mission. The team arrived at a fire at a steamed bun shop where a child was reported trapped. Lin Luxiao organized the rescue, and after a tense effort, a young girl named Tang Tang was successfully saved.

A preliminary investigation indicated the fire was caused by a faulty power strip. Devastated by the loss of his shop, the owner lashed out, blaming the firefighters for arriving too late. His wife immediately apologized to Lin Luxiao, explaining her husband didn't mean it. She revealed their daughter has acute leukemia and is awaiting a bone marrow transplant, and they had spent all their savings on medical treatments. Seeing the rescued child reminded Yu Qilei of his own daughter, Miaomiao.

He called his wife, Milan, admitting how much he felt he had failed them but explaining that witnessing the family's reunion reinforced the profound meaning of his work. He told her that after much consideration, he couldn't give up being a firefighter because so many people needed him. Milan chose to support his decision. That evening, Lin Luxiao held a debriefing meeting. Shao Yijiu suggested donating money to the steamed bun shop family, and others agreed.

Lin Luxiao acknowledged their good intentions but stated that while they couldn't solve the family's financial problems, they could focus on their core duty: effective fire safety education. Reflecting on past efforts, Lin Luxiao felt their public awareness work had been too passive. He announced that strengthening community outreach would become a priority. Yu Qilei then volunteered to lead this initiative, declaring that he had decided to stay on as a firefighter. The team was overjoyed by his decision.

Yang Zhengang and Lin Luxiao agreed to adjust Yu Qilei's schedule to ensure he could go home at least once a month. Jiang Ge sought out Lin Luxiao to apologize for the previous day's incident and, impacted by witnessing the rescue, announced his decision to join the show as a guest to challenge himself. The next day, Jiang Ge officially joined the training.

During rope-knotting practice, Jiang Ge used an advanced knot he learned from rescuers abroad, which Lin Luxiao acknowledged was valid. Hearing about an unwritten rule that a new member can add a rule to the station's "Nine Rules" by successfully challenging a senior, Jiang Ge challenged Lin Luxiao to a rope-climbing race and surprisingly won.

However, Lin Luxiao clarified that one could only add a rule after completing all training and becoming a certified firefighter, as the job requires comprehensive ability, not just a single skill. That night, the station received a call for a lockout rescue. Yu Qilei led Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan to the scene. While Yu Qilei was on the phone confirming details, Yijiu and Shiquan went ahead and encountered a drunk man urgently demanding they open his apartment door.

Pressured by the man's insistence, Yijiu proceeded with a forced entry without waiting for Yu Qilei, only to break open the wrong apartment door. The actual homeowner was furious. Yu Qilei sincerely apologized for the mistake and promised to have the door and lock repaired, eventually placating the owner.

Episode 8 Recap

Following a fire at a residential building in the Qizhongmen Area, where lithium batteries illegally charging an electric motorbike were identified as the cause, Inspector Lou Mingye arrived at the Heping Road Special Division Station to hold Deputy Director Yu Qilei accountable as the team leader. Yu Qilei accepted full responsibility, stating he would comply with any penalties from the station and actively assist with compensation.

Lin Luxiao acknowledged their mistakes during the mission but argued that frontline work inevitably encounters difficulties and complications, suggesting that inspectors should offer understanding along with supervision. Lou Mingye insisted that inspectors would fulfill their duties, questioning Lin Luxiao's qualification as station director and asserting that he should focus on improving management, especially of newcomers, rather than defending his team when problems arise.

Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan felt remorseful for their mistake of breaking down a door during a rescue. Insisting it was also his responsibility, Qin Shiquan gave Shao Yijiu his 6,000 yuan in savings to help compensate the resident, remarking that Assistant Liu Ruyi's spending habits were a bad example compared to Unit Leader Lei Dagang's frugality. Their fellow firefighters didn't blame them, offering comfort and explaining that rookies gain experience through difficult missions.

When Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan tried to give the money to Instructor Yang Zhengang for compensation, Jiang Ge offered to have the program cover the cost. Yang Zhengang politely declined, explaining it was a station matter and the team would collectively contribute. Lei Dagang warned the two rookies that repeating such mistakes would have strict consequences. Lin Luxiao summoned Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan to the Honor Room, with Nan Chu and Jiang Ge also present.

He shared the story of Martyr Wu Dayong, a young firefighter from their station who died responding to a call about a hornet's nest on a 15th-floor apartment. Lin Luxiao explained that this sacrifice led to increased emphasis on safety and improved training. He used the story to teach them that firefighting involves seemingly trivial matters like removing hornet nests or rings, not just fires and explosions.

Therefore, he stressed that being meticulous and careful is essential for their own safety and for effectively helping others, concluding that in firefighting, there is no "best," only "better." Shao Yijiu apologized for his haste, and Lin Luxiao acknowledged that experience is built gradually but urged them to apply double the effort to their work and training. In the gym, Liu Ruyi engaged in a bench press competition with Jiang Ge, which unfortunately caused a recurrence of his hemorrhoids.

His embarrassment was compounded when he ran into Dr. Xia Wan at the hospital. Dr. Xia kindly told him not to feel awkward, as she had seen similar cases often. Liu Ruyi, though flustered, remembered to ask her to watch the program they were filming. Nan Chu brought Xi Gu to the Dream Dance Club.

She gave her first salary from the program to her friend Yanzi to manage the club's finances, explaining that while it wasn't much after paying rent, it would increase and could help the dancers prepare for a year-end competition. She also mentioned she was trying to find a skilled choreographer to improve their chances. Nan Chu told Xi Gu about the national competition and asked if she would do their styling.

Xi Gu eagerly agreed, offering to do it for free out of her love for the club. Nan Chu then proposed a trade: free styling services in exchange for free accommodation. Thrilled at the prospect of living with Nan Chu, Xi Gu considered herself a member of the club. Before his concert, Lin Qi met with Nan Chu. He apologized that his company hadn't approved her dance club as backup dancers but promised to invite them next time.

Nan Chu was understanding and wished him success. She noted how different Lin Qi was from his brother, Lin Luxiao, who seemed cold and burdened. Lin Qi revealed that years ago, Lin Luxiao witnessed a young boy die during a rescue and had blamed himself ever since, initially becoming reckless in his work before being promoted to director at a young age.

Arriving at the concert venue, Lin Qi's manager, Mr. Ma, explained that a sponsor had provided funding to fulfill his son's dream of performing. Mr. Ma informed Lin Qi that the solo concert would now be a joint performance, with Lin Qi playing the first half and the sponsor's son the second. Lin Qi protested, feeling like a warm-up act.

Mr. Ma dismissed his complaint, revealing that only five tickets had been sold and declaring it was a decision, not a negotiation. When Mr. Ma threatened to make him repay the company's expenses, a frustrated Lin Qi had no choice but to agree. Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu attended Lin Qi's concert. During the performance, a disruptive audience member spoke loudly. Lin Luxiao politely asked the man to be quiet and show respect, mentioning that Lin Qi was his brother.

After the concert, Nan Chu presented Lin Qi with flowers. Lin Qi expressed disappointment, feeling like a warm-up act who no one wanted to hear. Nan Chu reassured him that she and Lin Luxiao enjoyed it and encouraged him to view it as practice for future performances with larger audiences. Lin Luxiao also encouraged his brother to respect the stage, art, and his profession regardless of the venue's size, acknowledging his genuine passion for music.

Nan Chu inquired about a composition Lin Qi had written, suggesting he play it to see if it was suitable for the dance club's competition piece. Lin Qi proposed that Nan Chu dance while he played to find inspiration. They performed together on stage as Lin Luxiao watched their first collaboration. As Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu walked back to the station, he thanked her for supporting his brother as a friend, acknowledging he understood his brother's unspoken feelings.

Nan Chu then asked if Lin Luxiao had any books on psychological counseling for fire rescue that she could borrow, and he readily agreed to find them for her. Anticipating an inspection from Meng Guohong, the firefighters excitedly discussed giving him a warm welcome, with one suggesting a water screen and firecrackers, an idea Yang Zhengang dismissed as Meng Guohong was likely conducting a secret inspection. Lin Luxiao announced an open training assessment involving a smoke and heat rescue task.

Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan went first and successfully completed it. Jiang Ge and the other guests expressed interest in participating, but Lin Luxiao refused, explaining the simulated environment was dangerously realistic and required extensive training. Seeing their enthusiasm, he proposed a preliminary physical test: 200 push-ups and a 3km run in 20 minutes. Meng Guohong arrived and observed the training. He asked Lin Luxiao why the guests were not participating.

Lin Luxiao reiterated his safety concerns, but Meng Guohong countered that the training facility was highly controlled and safe. He argued that the biggest obstacle in rescues is not fire but the public's fear, and allowing them to witness training could educate them and reduce that fear. He added that training without simulated danger fails to prepare firefighters for real threats. Persuaded, Lin Luxiao agreed to let the guests participate, paired one-on-one with professional firefighters, reserving the right to terminate the training if any safety issues arose.

Episode 9 Recap

A new assessment was established for the artists: if they could navigate a smoke-filled maze in the training building, they would be cleared to accompany firefighters on missions as trainees. The task was simplified, requiring only that they find the exit without any rescue component, but failure would mean elimination with no second chance. The groups were set, pairing Lin Luxiao with Nan Chu, and Liu Ruyi with Jiang Ge, among others.

When Xu Zhiyi requested to be paired with Lin Luxiao, she was firmly told to obey orders. Instructor Yang reiterated the absolute rules: obey commands and never act alone. Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu entered first. Overwhelmed by her fear of fire, Nan Chu struggled to breathe and hesitated. Lin Luxiao calmly coached her to control her breathing, and his reassuring presence reminded her of the firefighter who had rescued her years prior.

With his guidance, she overcame her psychological barrier and successfully exited the maze, earning praise for her performance. Next, Liu Ruyi and Jiang Ge entered. Jiang Ge, struggling with the heat, recklessly deviated from the mission. Ignoring Liu Ruyi's reminders that their only task was to exit, he insisted on attempting the full firefighter training exercise of searching for a victim. He severely overestimated his physical limits and collapsed from exhaustion.

Liu Ruyi quickly located him and carried him to safety. Lin Luxiao harshly reprimanded Liu Ruyi for not stopping Jiang Ge's dangerous and foolish deviation. Though Jiang Ge took full responsibility after recovering, Lin suspended all training for the artist group. He explained that in firefighting, they are a team, and one person's mistake can lead to a teammate's injury or death.

Nan Chu countered his decision, arguing that everyone, including experienced firefighters, makes mistakes and deserves a chance to learn from them. Persuaded by the pleas from Nan Chu and the others, Lin agreed to give them one final chance with some basic real-fire drills, acknowledging that full-scale firefighting was too dangerous for them. With Jiang Ge now prioritizing safety above all else, he and Nan Chu successfully completed the real-fire drill, demonstrating improved teamwork.

Acknowledging their progress with a thumbs-up, Lin announced the official truck assignments: Nan Chu and Jiang Ge to Truck One, Yan Dai and Xu Zhiyi to Truck Two, and Zheng Ping and Liu Xiahan to Truck Three. He presented them with special trainee armbands, clarifying they were not firefighters and warning that the true test of their discipline had just begun. Any failure to comply with rules would result in immediate removal. That evening, an emergency assembly was called.

The artists arrived late and disheveled, earning a sharp rebuke from Lin Luxiao for their lack of urgency. He then revealed the "emergency" was a screening of the first episode of their show, "Flaming Youth", explaining that at the Heping Road station, they do everything as a family. The show was a massive hit, topping ratings and trending online. The "CP" pairing of Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao became especially popular, much to the frustration of a jealous Xu Zhiyi.

Yan Dai advised her that in their industry, good character and professional skill are more important than manufactured popularity on a reality show. Jiang Ge's assistant suggested they capitalize on the popular pairing, but Jiang Ge firmly rejected the idea, stating the show's purpose was to highlight the firefighters' difficult work and promote fire safety, not to create a romance plot. He later invited Nan Chu to dinner to propose a long-term professional partnership.

When he brought up the online comments about her and Lin Luxiao, Nan Chu dismissed it as a "show effect." After a misunderstanding where Jiang Ge thought her friend Lin Qi was her boyfriend, Nan Chu clarified she was single. Jiang Ge then revealed he was also single and asked about her ideal type, only for Nan Chu to bluntly state it was "definitely not you."

She added that her feelings aren't based on a standard, but on a feeling, and that she once fell for someone who was a hero. Later, Lin Luxiao found the book "Mental Training Guide for Firefighters" and brought it to Nan Chu. He admitted that no one, including himself, ever truly overcomes fear, recalling a tragic mission where he couldn’t afford to hesitate.

He advised her that when she feels afraid, she can try cheering for herself internally, a method that works for him. Nan Chu then asked if she could contact him with questions and requested his WeChat. A slightly surprised Lin Luxiao agreed, and they exchanged contact info. Moments later, the fire alarm blared: a residential fire with two men on fire.

Trucks One, Two, and Three were dispatched, with Nan Chu and Jiang Ge joining Truck One for their first real mission. Upon arrival, the fire was under control, but the scene was chaotic. The two victims, a father and son, were arguing. Lin Luxiao learned they had been drinking and had splashed Baijiu on each other, which then ignited. He assessed their severe burns, noting the high risk of infection, and instructed the son to calm his father down so they could both be transported to the hospital immediately.

Episode 10 Recap

Firefighters brought the father and son injured in the fire they started to the hospital. Lin Luxiao arranged for Huang Huai and the program crew to follow up on their condition, hoping to provide some assistance. Back at the station, the firefighters somberly discussed the family's plight, noting that the father, a decorator, and the son, a transporter, were working constantly.

Financial pressures from renovating their house back home made them irritable, leading to the impulsive act of starting the fire. They later learned from the hospital that the son's condition was stable, but the father had suffered severe inhalation injuries requiring surgery. With no savings and living in a rented home, the family's future looked bleak. An emergency call reported a woman threatening to jump from the top of the Jiande Building.

At the scene, the woman's parents explained they had found a suicide note that morning and located their daughter, Sun Meng, using her phone. When Lin Luxiao asked if Sun Meng had depression, they denied it, describing her as cheerful. They admitted, however, that she had a boyfriend in college who they believed "led her astray," causing her to become secretive.

Lin Luxiao took the parents to the rooftop but instructed them to remain silent and let his team handle the situation. On the rooftop, Liu Ruyi tried to build rapport with Sun Meng, offering her water and promising to keep his distance. Lin Luxiao assessed that the height and wind made an air cushion impractical, and with no window access, a direct approach was the only option. This was risky as Sun Meng held a knife to her artery.

He instructed Liu Ruyi to continue talking to buy time. During their conversation, Sun Meng revealed her parents had forced her to break up with her boyfriend, Tao, after she simply asked about going on a date, believing the relationship was affecting her studies. Liu Ruyi sincerely promised to help her reunite with Tao if she came down, even joking that he would tie Tao up and bring him to her if necessary.

He assured her his help was genuine and told her she could call him or the 119 emergency line anytime. Just as Liu Ruyi seemed to be making progress, Sun Meng's parents ignored Lin Luxiao's instructions and approached, scolding their daughter for her actions. Agitated, Sun Meng demanded they leave. As Liu Ruyi tried to de-escalate, Nan Chu, having read in Sun Meng's suicide note that she liked Chi's BBQ, had someone buy skewers and send them up.

Lin Luxiao used the BBQ to connect with Sun Meng, reminiscing about eating BBQ in college and acknowledging the good memories she must have had there with her friends and boyfriend. Lin Luxiao urged Sun Meng to reconsider, reminding her that life is long and full of diverse experiences to be lived. He told her she didn't have to live by anyone else's plan but should explore the world for herself.

Liu Ruyi reiterated his promise to help with any future difficulties, guaranteeing he would be there for her. Persuaded by their empathy, Sun Meng handed over the knife and was safely brought down from the ledge. Once safe, however, Sun Meng's mother slapped her, and her father berated her for being worthless and causing trouble. Nan Chu intervened, telling the parents they needed to reflect on their own behavior and questioning their dismissal of their daughter's depression as just "kidding."

The parents angrily told Nan Chu to mind her own business before taking Sun Meng away. Lin Luxiao gently told Nan Chu she shouldn't have confronted them, but Nan Chu defended her actions, explaining she understood Sun Meng wasn't resisting guidance but was desperate for understanding, which she ultimately received from strangers instead of her own family. Later that night, Lin Luxiao saw a social media post from his friend, Sun Mingyang, a fellow firefighter, about a family tragedy.

In a call, Sun Mingyang explained that his team had responded to a call about a young woman threatening to jump, but she jumped immediately upon their arrival, and her parents blamed them. He confirmed the woman was a freshman named Sun Meng, noting her parents' callous dismissal of her depression. He mentioned hearing she had been saved by a fire station earlier that day, realizing it was Lin's team. Lin Luxiao, devastated, confirmed the news with the police.

The firefighters at the station, including Nan Chu and Zheng Ping, read Sun Meng's final social media posts, which spoke of giving up on love due to her parents, feeling paradoxically calm after a depression diagnosis, and feeling unable to meet expectations before deciding to "delete her account" and wishing to be a dandelion in the next life. Sun Meng's death deeply affected Nan Chu.

Lin Luxiao comforted her, acknowledging that while their pasts might be similar, their futures were not predetermined. The tragedy also triggered Lin Luxiao's nightmares about a boy he failed to save in an earthquake, a burden Yang Zhengang noted he still carried. Worried about the impact on the new recruits, Yijiu and Shiquan, Yang Zhengang and Lin Luxiao agreed to speak with them.

Meanwhile, Yijiu discovered negative online comments on a message he had left for Sun Meng, accusing the firefighters of seeking attention and being unprofessional. He and Shiquan decided to post a video response. In it, they identified themselves as the firefighters from the rescue, clarified they were ordinary professionals, not internet celebrities, and defended their actions.

They challenged critics who called Sun Meng "dramatic," explaining that depression is a real illness and encouraging those who suffer from it to find strength. Separately, the station responded to a fire alarm from a rural village. Upon arrival, Yijiu, Shiquan, and Deputy Director Yu found no fire. The elderly villagers admitted they had made the call, falsely claiming the fire was already out, in an attempt to get the firefighters to irrigate their fields.

When Yu explained this was not their duty, Yijiu called the villagers "rascals," sparking a physical altercation. Lin Luxiao rushed to the scene and informed the villagers they had committed a crime by making a false report and wasting public resources. The police arrived, commended the firefighters for their restraint despite the villagers' false claims of being attacked, and took charge of the situation.

On the way back, Lin Luxiao saw the rookies' video and told Yijiu to delete it to avoid further trouble. However, it was too late. Lin Luxiao was informed that Sun Meng's parents had seen the video and were now at the fire station causing a scene, with Yang Zhengang trying to calm them down. Lin Luxiao immediately ordered Yijiu and Shiquan to their dorm and to stay there until told otherwise.

Episode 11 Recap

Fearing Sun Meng's parents might trouble Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan, Lin Luxiao instructed them to return to their dormitory. Yang Zhengang attempted to calm the parents, but they were incensed that the firefighters' video mentioned their daughter's depression, which they equated to mental illness. They demanded the fire station restore their daughter's reputation. Lin Luxiao assured them the video had been deleted immediately and hoped for a peaceful resolution.

Unwilling to let their superiors take the blame, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan came forward. Shao Yijiu presented his phone, showing that Sun Meng herself had posted her depression diagnosis online, but her parents refused to look and grew more agitated. When Nan Chu arrived, she defended Sun Meng and criticized the parents for their lack of understanding.

This further angered the parents, who emotionally questioned why strangers were judging them after they had worked so hard to raise their daughter. Seeing the conflict escalating, Lin Luxiao sent Shao Yijiu, Nan Chu, and the others away. He promised Sun Meng's parents he would handle the matter seriously, and they demanded a public apology from the station. Lin Luxiao later posted a video online, formally apologizing to the parents for the inappropriate remarks made by the firefighters.

Nan Chu was disheartened by the confrontation, empathizing deeply with Sun Meng's plight. Xi Gu, seeing her distress, sensed that Nan Chu must have had similar difficult experiences in her own past. Captain Meng arrived and reprimanded Lin Luxiao and Yang Zhengang for being overly protective of their recruits. Lin Luxiao accepted primary responsibility but also expressed frustration that pressuring grassroots units for every issue would make future work difficult.

Captain Meng, while acknowledging their feelings, insisted the matter be treated seriously and ordered Lin to submit a report. He also specifically suggested that Shao Yijiu might not be suited for firefighting and cautioned Lin Luxiao against being lenient. Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan received a formal warning for filming and posting the video, which caused public controversy. Shao Yijiu felt the punishment was unjust, believing he had spoken the truth.

Qin Shiquan blamed himself for suggesting the video and began to question if he was suited for the job, as it was not what he had imagined. When the two didn't return to the dormitory and couldn't be reached, Liu Ruyi found them on the rooftop via surveillance cameras. Fearing Lin Luxiao would scold them in anger, Yang Zhengang intercepted them, feigning sternness to pull them aside for a talk.

He explained that their actions, regardless of their intentions, were wrong because they targeted the public and caused their captain to be criticized. He stressed the importance of respecting the deceased and not causing secondary harm to their families. Yang Zhengang then sent them to the station's honor room to reflect on their mistakes.

There, a photo of their school from an earthquake rescue reminded them of why they became firefighters, and they understood Yang's intent, resolving to recommit to their original aspirations. Later, Lin Luxiao took Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan on a rescue call where a boy's mother had lost her ring down a drain. Learning the boy's father had passed away, the two recruits insisted on helping.

They successfully retrieved the ring with a flexible inspection camera without damaging the sink, earning a thank-you drawing from the boy. Back at the station, Lin Luxiao used the opportunity to explain the origin of the Special Division's "Nine Rules" in the honor room, noting they were a mix of serious lessons and inside jokes that became binding agreements. He clarified that deleting the video was mandatory, as all public announcements must come from the brigade headquarters.

Lin Luxiao learned Shao Yijiu's guilt over failing to give Sun Meng hope was his motive for posting the video. Lin warned them against this mindset, explaining that while saving lives is exhilarating, becoming addicted to that feeling can lead to reckless personal heroism. He emphasized that firefighting requires effective teamwork and the ability to accept failure as well as success, urging them to grow and learn together.

Separately, Jiang Ge, dissatisfied with the music for a program, discovered a piece by Lin Qi. He sent his assistant to negotiate a collaboration. While Lin Qi's agent eagerly agreed, Lin Qi himself flatly refused. Meanwhile, Yang Zhengang mended his own clothes, revealing a bruise from a recent mission and reminding Lin Luxiao to prioritize his own safety. Later, Lei Dagang called Lin Luxiao, inviting him to a friend's birthday dinner as a pretext for a night out. Lin Luxiao declined the invitation for himself but granted Lei Dagang leave for the night.

Episode 12 Recap

Jiang Ge seeks out Lin Qi, who is practicing violin in a classroom, which Jiang Ge playfully calls "underground music." He asks for Lin Qi’s musical ideas for the show "Flaming Youth." Lin Qi outlines a dynamic approach, suggesting a synthesizer for a strong bass, an electric guitar for melody, and percussive elements like a bell to create rhythm, evoking the "fire" theme without being overly energetic. Impressed, Jiang Ge immediately commissions Lin Qi for the composition.

After a brief negotiation where Lin Qi first mentions "concepts" before stating a price, Jiang Ge agrees to pay 20,000 yuan. Lin Qi accepts, suggesting their collaboration is fated. Meanwhile, the firefighters watch the latest episode of "Flaming Youth." Yu Qilei tries to message his wife, Milan, about the station's "reunion plan" that would allow their daughter Miaomiao to visit, but he receives no reply, though he downplays it to his colleagues as a minor tiff.

Other firefighters discover they have online Super Topics and jokingly discuss becoming internet celebrities, while Liu Ruyi is annoyed by a comment calling his muscles "disgusting." Lin Qi asks his brother, Lin Luxiao, if there is something going on between him and Nan Chu, but Lin Luxiao dismisses it as being for "entertainment purposes." Backstage, Xu Zhiyi and Yan Dai express their frustration over Nan Chu's significantly higher screen time, feeling like "extras" in her shadow.

They believe Nan Chu is unfairly favored by Lin Luxiao, Jiang Ge, and the company executives, prompting Yan Dai to decide she must fight for more visibility. Mr. Shen congratulates the artists on the show's success, highlighting Nan Chu's popularity. The company director, Mr. Han, arrives and confirms the plan to leverage Nan Chu's fame by steering her career toward film and television.

Nan Chu agrees to the company's arrangements but requests to keep some time for her Dream Dance Club, which Mr. Han agrees to coordinate. Meanwhile, Yan Dai, exhausted from a lack of rest, allows the makeup artist Xi Gu to do her makeup at Xu Zhiyi's suggestion. She suddenly suffers a severe allergic reaction and furiously accuses Xi Gu of sabotage, demanding to know who put her up to it.

Xu Zhiyi escalates the situation by implying it was intentional and suggesting they call the police. Nan Chu arrives and, to prove Xi Gu's innocence, has Xi Gu apply the same products to her own face, showing no adverse reaction. She tells Xu Zhiyi they are there to film a show, not to engage in "palace drama," and advises Yan Dai to get medical attention.

After Yan Dai is sent to the hospital, Xu Zhiyi further fuels her resentment by suggesting Nan Chu is deeply manipulative and used the incident to impress Mr. Han. Yan Dai becomes more upset when Mr. Shen only approves one day of leave for her severe allergy. To create an opportunity for Liu Ruyi, Yang Zhengang sends him to the hospital to arrange first-aid training with Dr. Xia Wan.

Liu Ruyi dresses up for the visit but is too shy to ask Dr. Xia out. After she agrees to come to the station, he offers her a ride, which she declines. As she leaves, she teasingly tells him his new hairstyle is nice but that he shouldn't do it again. Dr. Xia arrives at the fire station to conduct the first-aid training. As she demonstrates CPR, Nan Chu fantasizes about performing it on Lin Luxiao.

Dr. Xia then uses Liu Ruyi as a volunteer to demonstrate bandaging techniques. During practice, Nan Chu is partnered with Jiang Ge, but Lin Luxiao criticizes her "ugly" bandaging and steps in to personally correct her technique for tying knots. Observing Nan Chu receiving attention, Xu Zhiyi and Yan Dai's jealousy intensifies. At Yan Dai’s urging, Xu Zhiyi devises a plan. She approaches Xi Gu, framing it as a chance to reconcile with Yan Dai.

After Xi Gu apologizes, Xu Zhiyi and Yan Dai have her lie on a stretcher for a practice drill, which they then deliberately drop, causing Xi Gu to fall. Nan Chu rushes to defend Xi Gu, confronting Xu Zhiyi and Yan Dai for targeting her. The argument escalates until Nan Chu is pushed down and injures her knee. Lin Luxiao immediately stops the drill, reprimands the group, and takes Nan Chu to the infirmary.

Although the show's staff see the conflict as a dramatic "selling point," Jiang Ge unexpectedly orders them to delete all footage of the argument. In the infirmary, Lin Luxiao meticulously cleans Nan Chu's wound with hydrogen peroxide and applies a pungent "folk remedy" that he claims promotes fast healing. When Yang Zhengang stops by to check on Nan Chu, he remarks on how attentive Lin Luxiao is.

Nan Chu feels guilty about losing her temper and offers to apologize, but Lin Luxiao reassures her that she did nothing wrong. Later, Lin Luxiao pulls Xu Zhiyi aside and confronts her about targeting Nan Chu and Xi Gu. Xu Zhiyi feigns innocence, claiming it was a misunderstanding. Lin Luxiao sternly warns her that his station's only focus is firefighting and that he will immediately expel anyone who engages in "tricks and ploys" or stirs up interpersonal conflict.

Afterward, Xu Zhiyi lies to the others, claiming Lin Luxiao praised her performance and encouraged her to keep up the good work. While escorting Dr. Xia home, Liu Ruyi again struggles to ask her out. Unexpectedly, Dr. Xia asks him directly if he likes her, saying she was just confirming. She then invites him to work out with her at a new gym sometime. A stunned and overjoyed Liu Ruyi eagerly agrees.

He returns to the station too flustered to speak, telling his curious colleagues he's going to the gym to "get some peace and quiet." They are left to piece together what happened by reading a note he scribbled, which reveals Dr. Xia's question and invitation, leading them to conclude he is completely smitten.

Episode 13 Recap

Late one night, Yang Zhengang asked Lin Luxiao about his thoughts on Nan Chu. Yang Zhengang felt Nan Chu was a good woman and inquired if Lin Luxiao had noticed her treating him differently, but Lin Luxiao said he hadn't. Lin Luxiao recalled that when he first met Nan Chu, her landlord was causing trouble at a dance studio, and he saw her as a young woman facing difficulties.

Later incidents, like those at the steamed bun shop and with Sun Meng, revealed her deep kindness and soft heart. Observing Lin Luxiao's clear care for Nan Chu, Yang Zhengang, in his capacity as the station's political instructor, urged Lin Luxiao to address his personal life. Lin Luxiao deflected, instead inquiring about Yang Zhengang's own romantic prospects.

Yang Zhengang admitted to being drawn to the voice of a female dispatcher he hears during emergency calls, though he knew little else about her, not even her full name, only that her surname is Li. Separately, Xi Gu also questioned Nan Chu about her feelings for Lin Luxiao. Nan Chu described him as a hero, stating that she felt safe and secure whenever he was nearby.

Through their time together, Nan Chu had grown to admire him and expressed a desire to become as brave, strong, and compassionate as he is. When Xi Gu mentioned having taken a photo of the two of them, Nan Chu eagerly asked to see it. Meanwhile, Jiang Ge and Han Beiyao were concerned about negative media attention surrounding the tense relationships among the show's artists.

Han Beiyao proposed inviting a major, influential celebrity to join the show, believing the increased public interest would dilute the negative press. They decided to invite the veteran actor Ran Dongyang. Shen Guangzong called Nan Chu to inform her that Ran Dongyang would be joining the program. He advised her to be on her best behavior with the respected senior actor to potentially secure future collaborations.

During the call, Shen Guangzong mentioned both himself and Xi Gu were worried about her, which made Nan Chu suspicious. When she questioned Xi Gu about her relationship with Shen Guangzong, a flustered Xi Gu made an excuse and quickly left. Upon learning of Ran Dongyang's participation, Xu Zhiyi used her connections to arrange a meeting, hoping he would look out for her on the show.

She confessed to him that she had realized the program was primarily a vehicle to promote Nan Chu, with herself and Yan Dai serving as mere foils. Ran Dongyang acknowledged he knew this but asserted that an actor's true impact comes from their performance, not their designated role. He offered to create opportunities for Xu Zhiyi, even inviting her to a networking dinner and rescheduling his own appointments to do so.

Ran Dongyang arrived at the fire station enthusiastically, bringing refreshments for everyone. He immediately suggested adding live-streaming segments to the program to better engage the audience and show the firefighters' authenticity, offering to host them himself. Jiang Ge expressed reservations, citing conflicts with the show's format and the difficulty of managing unexpected events on a live broadcast. Nan Chu also objected, arguing that live streaming would disrupt the station's normal operations and that firefighters don't work for public spectacle.

Overhearing the discussion, Lin Luxiao intervened, stating that live streaming was an unscheduled activity requiring official approval. He directed everyone to proceed with the planned climbing training instead. During climbing training, which was initially segregated by gender, Ran Dongyang proposed mixing the groups to challenge gender norms and let everyone choose their partners. As there were no rules against it, the suggestion was accepted, and he placed himself in Nan Chu's group.

During the exercise, he was highly conscious of the cameras, directing the crew to capture specific angles, which prompted Jiang Ge to privately instruct the editor to cut the staged footage. Separately, Yan Dai remarked to a frustrated Xu Zhiyi about Nan Chu’s perceived attention-seeking. Yan Dai suggested they could manufacture a "storyline" to make Nan Chu look bad, even while acknowledging the show was unscripted.

Ran Dongyang then proposed adding a competitive elimination element to the training, where the losing team would have a member voted off by the live-stream audience. Xu Zhiyi and Yan Dai supported the idea, but Jiang Ge and Nan Chu strongly objected, arguing it contradicted the program's focus on teamwork and the station's rescue principles. When Lin Luxiao arrived, he firmly rejected the proposal, questioning Ran Dongyang's understanding of firefighting and instructing him to follow the trainers' plans.

Ran Dongyang quickly retracted his suggestion, calling it an "immature idea." Later, feeling slighted, Ran Dongyang confronted Nan Chu, accusing her of posturing for the cameras and belittling her principles. He warned her not to be ungrateful for his participation on the show. Lin Luxiao overheard the heated exchange and intervened, telling Ran Dongyang to stop making things up if he doesn't understand firefighting and to cease his showboating at the station.

After Ran Dongyang left, Lin Luxiao assured Nan Chu he would protect her if she was being bullied. Lei Dagang informed Lin Luxiao that his friend, Chen Yilong, needed a fire safety inspection for his food processing plant before its opening. Lei Dagang was hesitant about the request to "privately" check the facility but suggested they could conduct an official inspection as part of the station's "Six Familiarities" drill, since the factory was in their jurisdiction.

Lin Luxiao agreed, noting it would also fulfill the production team's request to film a "Six Familiarities" segment. The team proceeded to the food processing plant for the exercise. Ran Dongyang appeared with a head bandage, claiming a training injury to theatrically emphasize the need for speed. During the inspection, Lin Luxiao reviewed the factory blueprints and identified significant safety violations, including obstructed pathways and a covered fire hydrant.

He cited relevant fire safety regulations and instructed that the issues be documented and corrected immediately. Seeing an opportunity, Ran Dongyang shared his suspicion about the factory owner's evasive behavior with Yan Dai and Xu Zhiyi. He proposed they secretly film potential problems and leak the footage online to create buzz.

Yan Dai initially cautioned that Lin Luxiao had forbidden unauthorized actions, but Ran Dongyang appealed to their desire for screentime, implied Nan Chu was receiving preferential treatment, and assured them he would take full responsibility. Yan Dai was convinced and persuaded a hesitant Xu Zhiyi to join them. The episode also included a fire safety tip about the proper use of hair dryers, warning that blocked vents can cause overheating and fires. The advice included using certified products, never leaving them unattended, avoiding prolonged use, and keeping vents clear.

Episode 14 Recap

Inside the factory, Ran Dongyang, Xu Zhiyi, and Yan Dai discovered a cluttered, stuffy room. Seeking sensational content for their show, Ran Dongyang instructed Xu Zhiyi to film him as he deliberately set a small fire and then extinguished it, staging a scene where he acted as a fire safety inspector who had uncovered a hazard. Just then, Nan Chu and Jiang Ge arrived and witnessed the staged event.

Nan Chu confronted Ran Dongyang, calling him reckless for starting a fire. When she tried to leave, Ran Dongyang blocked her path, fearing she would report him to Lin Luxiao. Ran Dongyang appealed to Jiang Ge, arguing that as a producer, he should understand the need for dramatic effect, but Nan Chu remained adamant about the danger. Amidst their argument, Yan Dai noticed thick smoke coming from under a nearby warehouse door. Moments later, an explosion shook the building.

Lin Luxiao, hearing the blast, immediately instructed Zheng Yang to contact the Command Center and ordered a full evacuation. However, the explosion had jammed a door, trapping Nan Chu's group inside. A report was dispatched requesting backup for an unknown fire with an unknown number of trapped individuals. Trapped, Nan Chu called Lin Luxiao, giving him their location in a disused warehouse and describing the intense fire. He ordered his team to break down the door immediately.

Inside, a frightened Nan Chu feared they wouldn't survive. Jiang Ge devised a plan to break through a weak section of the wall to create an escape route. After they smashed a hole, Jiang Ge climbed up to a high window and threw a rope down. As he climbed, a fearful Ran Dongyang complained, asking why Jiang Ge didn't just carry him up.

Once the rope was down, Ran Dongyang hesitated, suggesting he should look for another exit while Jiang Ge saved the women. Nan Chu insisted Yan Dai and Xu Zhiyi climb first. After Yan Dai was pulled to safety, a distracted Xu Zhiyi, concerned about her footage, urged her to leave, but Yan Dai stayed to help pull Nan Chu up. As they tried, the rope snapped, and Nan Chu fell, injuring herself.

She urged the others to flee and find Lin Luxiao. Informed that Nan Chu was still trapped, Lin Luxiao and his team broke through the door. He found a semi-conscious Nan Chu in the intense heat, reassured her, and carried her out of the burning building. At the hospital, Nan Chu suffered a stress reaction, talking in her sleep. Fire investigators found a camera, which Jiang Ge confirmed belonged to Ran Dongyang, blaming his stunt for the chaos.

The official investigation, however, concluded the fire was caused by the construction team's code violations, not Ran Dongyang. Still, Nan Chu’s injury meant the program would face consequences. Later, Lin Luxiao advised Lei Dagang to set clear professional boundaries with the factory owner, Chen Yilong, to avoid future complications. Disgusted by Ran Dongyang's cowardice, Jiang Ge told his partner, Han Beiyao, that he refused to work with him anymore.

Han Beiyao offered to handle the situation, explaining to his assistant that exposing Ran Dongyang could backfire, as Ran might manipulate the scandal and harm Nan Chu's reputation. Jiang Ge later argued with his father, Jiang Wende, who dismissed Jiang Ge's ability to manage the crisis and declared he would intervene. Jiang Wende then called Han Beiyao, stating his only goal as a businessman was to minimize losses.

They agreed to arrange a press conference with the fire department to resolve the controversy. Lin Luxiao and his brother, Lin Qi, went to the hospital but learned from Xi Gu that Nan Chu had already been discharged. Lin Luxiao called her and found out she was on a bus to Nanbin, determined to find the truth about the firefighter who saved her five years ago, as doubts about his identity had surfaced.

Later, over a meal, Lin Qi bluntly asked his brother if he liked Nan Chu. Lin Luxiao admitted without hesitation, "I like her very much." In Nanbin, Nan Chu met Officer Wu Zhibo at the fire station and questioned why Captain Xu Jianfei, a Nanbin firefighter, would have been at a fire in Beixun five years ago. Recalling the event, Officer Wu called Lin Luxiao.

He reminded Lin Luxiao of a time when Xu Jianfei was visiting his station for training; in the rush of an emergency call, Lin Luxiao had mistakenly grabbed and worn Xu Jianfei’s uniform. When Wu Zhibo mentioned the name of the girl he had saved—Nan Chu—Lin Luxiao was stunned. Realizing the truth, he abruptly ended the call and rushed out.

Lin Luxiao tried desperately to call Nan Chu, but her line was busy, as she, having just learned the truth from Officer Wu, was also trying to call him. Finally, her call connected. " Five years ago," she said, "the one who saved me was you." Hearing a bus announcement in the background, she asked where he was. He replied that he was at the station, standing next to her bus. " It's raining," he said, "I came to pick you up." They found each other in the station, their long-unspoken connection finally clear.

Episode 15 Recap

Nan Chu confided in Xi Gu that Lin Luxiao was the one who had saved her, explaining he had saved her four times. She admitted she had developed feelings for him. Xi Gu, intrigued, asked if she was moved because someone saved her or because it was Lin Luxiao who saved her. Nan Chu smiled but didn't directly answer. Meanwhile, Yang Zhengang was concerned about how to address Ran Dongyang's unauthorized departure from the team at the upcoming press conference.

Lin Luxiao stated that the fire was not Ran Dongyang's fault, but as the chief coach who brought the artists to the scene, he would take responsibility. Before the press conference, Han Beiyao met with Ran Dongyang. Han Beiyao believed the show "Flaming Youth" had great potential and suggested they "reasonably utilize" the fire incident.

He told Ran Dongyang there was hope for him to become a regular guest on the show but cautioned him to be careful with his words during the press conference. They agreed to downplay the situation for a "win-win" outcome. Jiang Ge informed Nan Chu about the press conference and sent her a link to the live stream, which she watched with Xi Gu.

At the press conference, Ran Dongyang attributed the incident to a miscommunication between the production team and the fire department. He deflected blame for artists acting alone onto the special division station for not finding fire hazards in time and onto "young people" for being too eager to show off. While not naming her directly, he implied Nan Chu was one of these inexperienced youths who acted naively.

He then portrayed himself as a hero who used his firefighting skills and calm demeanor to keep everyone safe until help arrived. Lin Luxiao spoke next, accepting his undeniable responsibility as the chief coach and promising a thorough investigation. Furious, Nan Chu texted Lin Luxiao, calling Ran Dongyang a scumbag and urging Lin Luxiao not to take the blame for him. After the press conference, Han Beiyao confronted Ran Dongyang for shifting the blame, but Ran Dongyang feigned innocence.

Separately, Yan Dai sought out Nan Chu to apologize, expressing her disgust with Ran Dongyang's actions. She gave Nan Chu a video she had secretly recorded showing Ran Dongyang staging his heroic actions during the fire, but advised her to consider the consequences before making it public. Nan Chu showed the video to Han Beiyao, insisting it must be released to clear the special division station’s name.

Han Beiyao refused, warning that it would lead to the show's suspension, damage the company, and jeopardize her career. Nan Chu accused him of prioritizing money over right and wrong and declared she was willing to leave the company. Han Beiyao urged her to consider how many people her decision would affect. Afterward, Nan Chu confided in Xi Gu, who supported her quitting.

Nan Chu, however, worried about the financial consequences, including her contract termination fee and her responsibility to her dance club. Nan Chu then consulted Jiang Ge. She argued it was a simple matter of right and wrong and that she was prepared to quit the industry to see justice done. While concerned about the repercussions, Jiang Ge ultimately supported her decision, agreeing it was necessary to "rid this trade of vermin." Nan Chu released the video online.

It quickly went viral, and public opinion turned against Ran Dongyang, much to the relief of the firefighters at the special division station. A frantic Ran Dongyang begged Han Beiyao to force Nan Chu to issue a statement claiming the video was fake, offering to pay any price. Han Beiyao refused to have his artist deceive the public. Enraged, Ran Dongyang threatened him. To mitigate the damage, Han Beiyao announced that his company was withdrawing from "Flaming Youth."

With the show suspended, Lin Luxiao visited Nan Chu. She explained she released the video because the public deserved the truth and because she didn't want anyone to discredit her hero. Lin Luxiao, moved at being protected by her, explained he was still responsible as the mission's leader but urged her to prioritize her own safety in the future. As he leaned in to kiss her, Xi Gu returned, awkwardly interrupting the moment.

Later, Meng Guohong and Lou Mingye arrived at the special division station. Meng Guohong explained that while many in leadership, including Lou Mingye, had opposed punishing Lin Luxiao, the online controversy had negatively impacted the station. Therefore, the final decision was to suspend Lin Luxiao from duty. Lin Luxiao accepted the decision and announced his suspension to his team, delegating his duties as station chief to the Instructor, with Deputy Chief Yu and Assistant Liu assisting. The team protested the unfair decision, but Lin Luxiao instructed them to carry on.

Episode 16 Recap

Nan Chu visits Unit Leader Xu's grave to report that the Dream Dance Club recently won a small prize. She thanks him, stating that without his influence, she might never have been able to dance, and promises to continue pursuing it seriously. At the fire station, Lin Luxiao calls Nan Chu while checking equipment and asks to meet in an hour. Excited about their first official date, Nan Chu enlists Xi Gu's help at the dance studio.

They select a dress and a long coat, and as Xi Gu does Nan Chu's makeup, she playfully describes a romantic scenario where Lin Luxiao might kiss her. Meanwhile, Yang Zhengang meticulously inspects Lin Luxiao's outfit, deeming it too casual and insisting he wear a leather jacket for a more handsome appearance, despite Lin Luxiao's complaints about the heat.

The other firefighters overhear and cheer for him, which leads them to ask Yang Zhengang about organizing a mixer to help them find partners, specifically teasing Liu Ruyi about his interest in Dr. Xia Wan. Yang Zhengang dismisses their chatter and sends Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan to inspect water sources and street conditions in their jurisdiction. Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu meet, and he compliments her, saying she looks beautiful.

While on their patrol, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan spot the couple in a public square. They sneak photos and share them in the station's group chat, to the excitement of their colleagues. Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu play a ring-toss game, and after he misses several times, Nan Chu successfully wins a prize. The stall owner, recognizing Lin Luxiao, gives them a small gift and remarks on their sweet romance.

They go to a restaurant for dinner, which Lin Luxiao realizes is owned by Mr. Xu, the bun shop owner he and his team had previously rescued. Mr. Xu warmly welcomes them and proudly shows off his new, clean restaurant, explaining that friends helped him open it after his old one was lost. He shares the wonderful news that a bone marrow match has been found for his daughter, and she will soon have her surgery.

He expresses deep gratitude to Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan for teaching him how to use online crowdfunding, which helped his family overcome their financial hardship. In a separate event, Liu Ruyi meets Xia Wan at the gym. He compliments her on her casual attire, and they work out together. Afterward, he invites her to dinner, but she declines, saying her ride has arrived, and suggests they meet another time. After dinner, Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu walk hand-in-hand.

He tells her he has been temporarily suspended from duty pending a review of his report. He considers it a break but admits he feels restless being idle after so long on the front lines. Nan Chu empathizes, comparing it to a dancer who has practiced extensively but is not allowed to perform. When they arrive at the dance studio, she mentions she is looking for a proper apartment.

Lin Luxiao offers her his unused place, but she politely declines, asking only that he help her move when she finds one. Unwilling to part, Nan Chu gives him a goodnight kiss, then playfully claims she is hungry and suggests they get a late-night snack together. Jiang Ge's fire safety program is officially canceled, and the crew packs up.

He dismisses them without a formal goodbye and then sees a video of Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu's date in a group chat. Heartbroken, he resolves to focus on his career. Back at the station, the firefighters tease Lin Luxiao about the "smell of love" surrounding him. Captain Meng Guohong summons Yang Zhengang and instructs him to manage all station duties during Lin Luxiao's suspension.

Captain Meng expresses his happiness for Lin Luxiao, noting that the time off is a good opportunity for him to rest. He also shows Yang a repaired commemorative model from a past competition, explaining he kept it as a personal memento of his last time leading the team. Yang argues that it represents a collective honor and should be displayed at the station. Having learned of the suspension, Lin Luxiao's father calls him home.

He criticizes his son for the disciplinary action but instructs him to use the time to reflect on how to improve his work, reminding him that firefighting is a service to the people. He mentions that Captain Meng told him about the relationship with an actress, and while he is not satisfied with her profession, he will not interfere in his son's personal life. He asks Lin Luxiao to bring her home for a visit when the time is right.

Feeling down, Jiang Ge calls Lin Qi and suggests they get a drink. When Lin Qi declines due to a performance at the Labyrinth Bar, Jiang Ge decides to go watch and support him. He finds Lin Qi playing violin for a sparse, inattentive audience. After the bar empties, Jiang Ge confides in Lin Qi, expressing his heartbreak over Nan Chu being with Lin Luxiao.

He also voices his frustration with his father, who he feels dismisses all his ambitions as schemes to waste money, making him feel worthless. He tells Lin Qi that he envies him for being able to pursue something he truly loves.

Episode 17 Recap

Lin Qi confided in Jiang Ge about his struggles, feeling increasingly distant from his musical aspirations while performing at bars. He explained that his brother's support for his violin playing, contrary to what Jiang Ge thought, actually put more pressure on him to prove himself. Jiang Ge reassured Lin Qi, telling him not to doubt his own talent, which Jiang Ge insisted he understood despite admitting he didn't know how many strings a violin has.

Praising the powerful emotional impact of Lin Qi's music, Jiang Ge suggested they collaborate, urging Lin Qi to stop working for Mr. Ma, even though Jiang Ge hadn't yet figured out what their project would be. Meanwhile, at the station, when rookie firefighters Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan commented on the taste of the chicken drumsticks, Yang Zhengang shared the story behind them.

The drumsticks were made by Auntie Cai, the mother of Li Weitong, a former firefighter from their station. Yang recounted how they had treated Weitong like a younger brother. A flashback to a news report confirmed that Li Weitong was one of three firefighters who died in a fire at the Pinglang Science and Technology Park.

After her son's death, Auntie Cai stayed at the station and began making his favorite dish for the firefighters, worried they might not eat enough or well. Hearing this, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan gained a new appreciation for the meal. Suddenly, a massive explosion at South Bay Harbor prompted a large-scale mobilization. Though officially suspended, Lin Luxiao insisted on joining the response, stating he was "suspended from my job, not my duties," and boarded a fire truck.

On the way, Meng Guohong briefed all responding teams via radio, confirming a fierce explosion, multiple fire points, and that they were the third wave of responders. He stressed the importance of protecting the public and, unusually, of protecting themselves. Lin Luxiao reassured the nervous Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan, promising to bring them back safely and treat them to a meal. Following tradition, Yu Qilei prompted the firefighters to send any last words to their families.

In a call with Nan Chu, Lin Luxiao told her to go home and that he would contact her later. Worried, Nan Chu instead went to the Heping Road station to wait for him. Upon arriving at the fire scene, the teams were briefed by Cui: the first brigade was out of contact, a secondary explosion had already occurred, and hundreds of people were trapped inside. Lin Luxiao, Yang Zhengang, and Yu Qilei were assigned to lead separate teams.

Lin Luxiao ordered Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan to remain on the perimeter, stating they couldn't handle the core fire zone. Despite their protests, he reiterated his command. Frustrated but obedient, the two rookies decided to contribute by helping with stretchers and assisting the injured. At the station, Auntie Cai welcomed Nan Chu, inviting her inside to wait and offering her food.

Nan Chu remarked that the chicken drumsticks tasted like home, a sentiment Auntie Cai said her son had shared. As Nan Chu waited, news reports detailed the escalating disaster: over a thousand firefighters on scene, more than 160 people rescued, over 400 evacuated, and the explosion's power estimated at 400 tons of TNT equivalent. Two days passed with news of rising casualties.

Nan Chu maintained her busy schedule of photoshoots and dance practice but returned to the station each evening to wait. Her colleague Shen Guangzong suggested to their boss, Han Beiyao, that Nan Chu be given leave, but Han believed keeping her busy was better for her.

Elsewhere, a worried Lin Qi was calmed by his father, who recalled a firefighter tradition during major incidents: not to ask for or discuss updates, but to focus on daily life with the faith that their comrades would return. He expressed his firm belief that Lin Luxiao would come back safely. Back at the fire ground, Meng Guohong gave the Heping Road station a new, formidable assignment: to tackle the largest remaining fire point.

Lin Luxiao accepted without hesitation, and his team roared their readiness to fight and return triumphant. As they prepared to engage the main burning tank, Lin Luxiao offered to lead the charge, but Yang Zhengang asserted his authority as the mission's on-site commander, since Lin Luxiao was suspended. Yang ordered himself, Zheng Yang, and Dagang to lead the assault, while Lin Luxiao and Liu Ruyi provided covering fire from below.

Upon assessing the tank, Yang determined he had to climb it to extinguish the fire effectively. Overruling volunteers, he ascended the tank himself. Shortly after, a violent explosion blew him off. As rescue efforts began amidst shouts about failing water pressure and foam, Yang, though injured, tried to continue directing his team. After an agonizing wait, Nan Chu saw the firefighters return to the station, but Lin Luxiao was not among them.

She learned from Shao Yijiu that he was at the hospital. Rushing there, she found him safe and ran into his arms, overcome with relief. Lin Luxiao explained what happened, expressing deep guilt. Because he was suspended, Yang Zhengang had acted as commander, ordering Lin Luxiao to a supporting role while he personally climbed the tank, leading to his critical injuries.

Episode 18 Recap

Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu visited Yang Zhengang in the hospital after his surgery. Yang Zhengang was awake and, upon discovering his right leg was amputated, remained remarkably calm. He accepted the news, telling a visibly upset Lin Luxiao not to be sad, reassuring him that he wasn't dead, just missing a leg. He even joked that he had always wanted time off to rest and travel, and now he had his chance.

Lin Luxiao expressed deep regret, believing that if he hadn't been suspended, he would have been the one injured. Yang Zhengang dismissed his guilt, insisting it was a freak accident and not Lin Luxiao's fault. Captain Meng Guohong and other firefighters from the station came to visit, pained by the sight of his injury. Captain Meng promised that the team would take good care of him.

Yang Zhengang voiced his concern for the station's operations and acknowledged that he could no longer serve as a firefighter. Captain Meng urged him to focus on his recovery and not worry about work, praising his excellent service and expressing how proud he was of him. He then presented Yang Zhengang with a trophy he had long coveted.

Overjoyed, Yang Zhengang asked Lin Luxiao to place it in the station's honor room, telling his colleagues that the trophy represented both their honor and a legacy they must carry forward. Captain Meng informed Lin Luxiao that, due to the ongoing port explosion investigation, the brigade was temporarily assigning him to the Fire Investigation Department, effective immediately.

Lin Luxiao requested a day's delay to return to the station, hand over his duties, and organize a schedule for the team to take turns caring for Yang Zhengang. Captain Meng agreed. Meanwhile, Yu Qilei received a concerned video call from his wife, Milan, and his parents, who were relieved to see he was safe. His young daughter, Miaomiao, also appeared on the call, calling him a hero.

Concerned about Yang Zhengang’s future medical needs, the firefighters decided to pool their money to help. Yu Qilei even discussed using the money saved for his son's piano lessons with his wife. Lin Luxiao also planned to request financial assistance from the department. He later confided in Nan Chu that he was worried about Yang Zhengang's stoicism, explaining that his outward composure was likely suppressing immense pain.

He felt this hidden suffering was more concerning than an open display of grief would have been. Captain Meng, observing Lin Luxiao's guilt and frustration, advised him to remember the feeling, calling it the "aftermath" of their call to duty—a trial and a price they must sometimes pay. After a period of recovery, Yang Zhengang was discharged. Yu Qilei, Nan Chu, and other colleagues were there to pick him up.

They surprised him with a new electric wheelchair, which the entire station had chipped in to buy after Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao selected the model. Yang Zhengang was grateful but felt they shouldn't have spent the money. While his colleagues helped him into the wheelchair, he quickly got the hang of it, remarking on how flexible it was.

Separately, Lin Luxiao learned from the doctor that Yang Zhengang was suffering from phantom limb pain, a common condition for amputees that could last for months or even a lifetime. The doctor revealed that Yang Zhengang had been enduring it silently, only requesting painkillers when it became too severe to sleep. To celebrate his discharge, the team gathered for a meal at the station.

They playfully urged Yang Zhengang to give a speech, but he declined, joining them instead for a toast to his recovery. Later, Lin Luxiao helped him settle in for the night, informing him that the station had hired a caregiver who would arrive the next morning. He left painkillers and water by the bed and positioned the wheelchair for easy access.

Lin Luxiao thanked Nan Chu for her unwavering support and asked if she ever worried that her feelings were for an idealized image she had built up over five years, rather than the real him. Nan Chu admitted that for five years, she held onto the image of her rescuer, but clarified this was a feeling of reliance and admiration, not romantic love.

She emphatically stated that she had already fallen for the real Lin Luxiao before she ever learned he was that rescuer. The next day, Lin Luxiao took Nan Chu to a memorial for the firefighters who died in the Nanwan Port explosion. After paying their respects, he confessed that he and his team had also narrowly escaped death, surviving not because of superior skill but because they arrived later.

He wanted her to fully understand the risks of being with him. Nan Chu reassured him she had thought it through. Acknowledging the fear she felt, she argued that life couldn't be lived in hesitation over what might happen. Having grown up independently, she was prepared to carry on even if he were to make the ultimate sacrifice. She urged him to continue protecting the public, promising that she, in turn, would protect him.

Moved by her resolve, Lin Luxiao stood before the national flag and solemnly reaffirmed his oath as a firefighter, tying his professional duty to a new, personal promise to cherish his relationship with Nan Chu.

Episode 19 Recap

Liu Ruyi urgently calls Lin Luxiao, asking him to persuade Yang Zhengang, who has dismissed the nanny hired by the station. When Lin Luxiao arrives, Yang Zhengang is adamant, finding it inconvenient and a waste of money to have a stranger in his home. He insists that despite his amputated leg, he can manage his basic needs with the wheelchair they provided and implores them to leave so he doesn't feel like a burden.

Lin Luxiao, seeing his friend's firm stance, agrees to leave him be for the moment, despite Liu Ruyi's protests. Lin Luxiao knows that Yang Zhengang, an orphan, has always considered the fire station his home. Alone at night, Yang Zhengang suffers from intense phantom limb pain, relying on painkillers for relief. The next morning, Lin Luxiao, on annual leave, is staying with him and goes downstairs to get a package.

While he is gone, Yang Zhengang experiences stomach pain and tries to get to the bathroom alone but falls. When Lin Luxiao returns, he finds Yang Zhengang has soiled himself and is emotionally broken. Yang Zhengang desperately begs Lin Luxiao to stay away, pleading to be left with some dignity and questioning how long Lin Luxiao can possibly care for him. As Lin Luxiao helps his friend clean up, he reminds a shamed Yang Zhengang of their deep bond.

He recalls how Yang Zhengang, as a senior firefighter and later as his instructor, always protected him like a younger brother, charging into danger first. Lin Luxiao emphasizes that during the rescue where he was injured, Yang Zhengang had protected everyone, and now it is their turn to take care of him, assuring him they will never abandon him. Meanwhile, Han Beiyao secures an audition for Nan Chu, which she passes. She excitedly texts the good news to Lin Luxiao.

As Lin Luxiao heads back to the brigade for an urgent matter, still worried about Yang Zhengang, he receives a frantic call from Liu Ruyi: Yang Zhengang is on a rooftop, threatening to jump. Lin Luxiao immediately turns back. On the scene, Yu Qilei and his team are trying to talk Yang Zhengang down. Yang Zhengang tells them to stay back, claiming he isn't afraid of death but feels he should have died honorably during the South Bay Harbor mission.

He feels his life is meaningless now that he can no longer be a firefighter, lacking a job, a normal life, and dignity. Lin Luxiao arrives and first finds Li Lei, the dispatcher who often works with their station, before rushing to the roof. He confronts Yang Zhengang, who declares he can't hold on any longer. Lin Luxiao acknowledges their inability to fully grasp his pain but sternly reminds him of the younger firefighters watching.

He argues that if Yang Zhengang jumps, he will become the fire department's biggest disgrace, teaching all firefighters that suicide is the only answer to suffering. Yang Zhengang breaks down, crying that he doesn't want to be a burden who needs help with basic bodily functions. Lin Luxiao promises that while they can't fix his pain, his brothers will always be by his side.

Lin Luxiao then produces a communicator and repeatedly hails Heping Road Station, calling for Instructor Yang Zhengang to respond. He hands the device to Yang Zhengang, who instinctively takes it and identifies himself. The dispatcher, Li Lei, comes over the radio with an "emergency mission": a person is on a rooftop, and Instructor Yang Zhengang's psychological expertise is requested to ensure their safety.

Responding as a firefighter again, Yang Zhengang confirms he is at the scene and promises to complete the mission. Just then, Li Lei appears on the rooftop, thanking him for his service and welcoming him back safely. Following the incident, Lin Luxiao discusses finding suitable work for Yang Zhengang with Meng Guohong, who agrees to propose it at a brigade meeting. Meng Guohong also informs Lin Luxiao that a new station director, whom he knows, will arrive that afternoon.

Lin Luxiao is surprised to find it is Lou Mingye, who personally requested the transfer. Lou Mingye addresses the firefighters, announcing his intent to reform the station into the most elite unit. He plans to change training methods, add theoretical exams, and create a new special operations unit selected purely on merit—mission performance, training, and test scores—regardless of seniority.

During the handover, Lou Mingye explains he wants to implement a new philosophy prioritizing advanced equipment, which he believes can prevent accidents and save lives more effectively than just courage. Lin Luxiao cautions that equipment alone cannot make an excellent firefighter. Later, Lou Mingye visits Yang Zhengang, explaining his transfer isn't about competing with Lin Luxiao but about proving the importance of technology. He argues that human strength is finite while equipment continuously improves, and if better gear can save one firefighter's life, it is worth any cost.

Episode 20 Recap

Lin Luxiao and a fellow firefighter found themselves trapped in an elevator in Lanyu Bay. Not wanting to cause a scene, they discreetly called Yang Zhengang, asking him to bring a couple of team members for a quiet rescue. Lou Mingye discussed his ideas for equipment reform with Zhengang, noting the rapid development of new, domestically produced equipment that Heping Road Special Division Station would have priority to test.

He planned for the team to integrate the new equipment into their training and missions, adopting a philosophy of combining human capability with advanced gear. Lou Mingye acknowledged that he and Lin Luxiao were similar in some ways but aimed to prove through this reform that his leadership would result in a stronger team. He asked Zhengang to share details about how the Heping Road Station team was previously trained and led.

Nan Chu's dance club, Dream Dance Club, received a visit from a choreographer she had hired. While acknowledging their technical skills were solid, he pointed out that their dance lacked distinctiveness and direction, suggesting they postpone competing this year. Feeling discouraged, the club members lost confidence, but Nan Chu rallied them to regain their spirits and work together to adjust their choreography.

At the station, Lou Mingye introduced new measures focused on rigorous training and a rewards-and-punishment system, which included forming a special division unit for high performers. While many firefighters eagerly signed up, Liu Ruyi remained skeptical of Lou Mingye's leadership. Lou Mingye secured a derelict building for a simulated internal fire attack search and rescue training. Liu Ruyi boasted that he could achieve first place even without joining the special division unit, aiming to outperform Lou Mingye.

After the training, Lou Mingye criticized Lei Dagang and Shao Yijiu for not keeping their search ropes taut, a significant error that could lead to disorientation. He sternly warned Lei Dagang, the leader of Combat Unit 2, that another such mistake would result in a request to revoke his position. Liu Ruyi was also singled out for a major error: failing to prioritize establishing a smoke passage upon entering the dark, smoke-filled environment.

When Liu Ruyi questioned the criticism, Lou Mingye systematically explained how smoke impairs visibility, generates toxic gases, and accelerates fire spread, emphasizing that the correct procedure is always to clear smoke, then enter, then search. He warned Liu Ruyi that his position as Assistant Director and Combat Unit 1 leader was also at risk if he didn't set a better example.

Dissatisfied with the team's overall performance, Lou Mingye identified a lack of solid theoretical knowledge as their biggest issue and announced that upcoming theoretical evaluations would be included in their performance records. Qin Shiquan, Zheng Yang, and the brothers An Weiren and An Weiming were praised for their performance and invited to join the special division unit. Lou Mingye's emphasis on theoretical study caused frustration among some firefighters, including Lei Dagang and Liu Ruyi, who found the memorization challenging.

Conversely, Qi Huo viewed the reform positively, seeing it as a fair opportunity for those like himself, who had less seniority, to prove their capability. He set his sights on the single spot in the special division unit allocated for the driving unit. During the theoretical exam, Liu Ruyi, who hadn't studied, left early after filling in random answers. Qi Huo achieved a perfect score, earning him the top rank, while Liu Ruyi placed last.

Liu Ruyi brushed off his result, claiming he wasn't interested in the special division unit anyway. Later, when Liu Ruyi needed money for a family emergency, Qi Huo lent it to him without hesitation, declining an IOU. Meanwhile, Nan Chu faced difficulties with her television show filming. A leaked behind-the-scenes video led to harsh online criticism of her acting, prompting her manager, Han Beiyao, to temporarily suspend all her work. Lin Luxiao saw the negative comments online.

During a date, Nan Chu confided in Lin Luxiao, feeling she had no acting talent and questioning her current path. Lin Luxiao reassured her that everyone starts somewhere and that improvement requires a process of learning and effort. He then took her to his childhood neighborhood, a firefighter family apartment complex.

He recounted how his firefighter father was often absent but seeing him rescue children from a roof made him realize his father's absences were to help those in greater need, cementing his view of his father as a hero and inspiring his own career choice. Touched, Nan Chu shared her own childhood story of feeling insecure due to a lack of parental presence and finding joy and self-worth by secretly dancing in an empty studio.

Lin Luxiao encouraged her not to lose hope, promising to support her if she felt afraid walking her chosen path alone. Nan Chu remarked that Lin Luxiao, despite seeming formidable, was like a warm "little sun," while he called her a "piece of candy" the world gave him after all his hardships. Motivated to improve, Nan Chu decided to enroll in a two-month acting course taught by the renowned Professor Jin Kexi, a decision Han Beiyao fully supported.

Elsewhere, Lin Luxiao visited Yang Zhengang and was pleased to see Li Lei diligently caring for him. As they talked, Lin Luxiao expressed his understanding of Lou Mingye's reform efforts, acknowledging that new technology and stricter training were necessary to minimize risks for firefighters. He stated that as long as the changes benefited the Heping Road Station, he supported them. Zhengang agreed on the need for reform but maintained that the station still needed Lin Luxiao.

Back at the station, in the wake of the exam results, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan planned to film a promotional video featuring their new 101-meter aerial ladder firetruck for the brigade's official Douyin account. They had Qi Huo, who ranked first in the exam, drive the truck out for filming. Lou Mingye discovered them and reprimanded them for prioritizing promotional activities over training. Liu Ruyi intervened, accusing Lou Mingye of simply trying to erase Lin Luxiao's influence.

Lou Mingye retorted that a firefighter's primary focus must be on technical skill and professional capability to earn the public's trust. The episode also included an informational segment on common fire hazards, such as the careless use of open flames, improper electrical wiring, and overloading circuits.

Episode 21 Recap

Lou Mingye, the station director, asserted his authority, making it clear that the team must follow his orders regardless of Lin Luxiao's previous leadership style. He criticized Liu Ruyi's poor performance, having come in last in both recent simulation training and exams, attributing it to an attitude problem and the past lax management under Lin Luxiao.

Liu Ruyi, who was once Lou Mingye's master, defended his emphasis on practical skills over theoretical tests, leading to an argument about the balance between theory and practice. Lou Mingye concluded that Liu Ruyi's theoretical knowledge was his biggest weakness and ordered Shao Yijiu and others to run ten laps around the field and submit self-criticism essays. Distressed, Liu Ruyi called Lin Luxiao, complaining that Lou Mingye was enforcing daily theoretical exams and constantly arguing.

Liu urgently urged Lin to find a way to transfer back to the station. Yu Qilei intervened, taking the phone to reassure Lin Luxiao before handing it back to Liu. Yu then advised Liu Ruyi not to involve Lin, who had already transferred to the Fire Investigation Department, and counseled Liu to control his temper and speak less around Lou Mingye to avoid conflict.

Liu Ruyi reluctantly accepted the advice but predicted that the new director would cause many future issues. Later that night, Lin Luxiao found Lou Mingye meticulously cleaning a fire tender. Lou Mingye explained that he was correcting the team's lack of attention to detail, which he attributed to Lin Luxiao's previous relaxed management style. He stressed the importance of meticulousness to prevent equipment aging and potential losses, stating he was correcting Lin's past mistakes.

Lou acknowledged that his rigorous reforms, including promoting innovative training methods, procuring advanced equipment, and focusing on areas like high-angle rescue, might seem stern or unrealistic to some. He declared his goal was to build a cutting-edge firefighting team capable of mastering high-tech equipment, which he believed was the future of firefighting. Lin Luxiao expressed his support and offered his assistance if needed.

In her acting class, Nan Chu witnessed her teacher's harsh criticism, directed at other students but implying her own struggles, regarding the lack of empathy and emotional depth in some performances. The teacher suggested acting required talent and prompted Nan Chu to reconsider if she was suited for it. Lin Luxiao, present in the class, offered comfort afterward. Nan Chu admitted the teacher was harsh but resolved to "stick with it" given the high cost of her tuition.

On their way later, Nan Chu told Lin Luxiao she believed his assignment to the Fire Investigation Department was temporary and that he truly belonged on the front line. The next day, the acting teacher continued emphasizing empathy and confidence, noting Nan Chu's lack of confidence in acting compared to her experience as a dancer.

To help the students overcome stage fright and psychological barriers, he instructed each student to bring one trusted person to the next evening class to perform a scene study together. Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu visited Yang Zhengang, who was actively recovering and practicing walking with a prosthetic leg. Yang Zhengang shared that Captain Meng had helped him secure the best available prosthetic leg and arranged rehabilitation to start the following week, with Li Lei also offering assistance.

Yang Zhengang encouraged Lin Luxiao to focus on his relationship with Nan Chu and suggested a joint trip during Lin's vacation, including Li Lei. Lin Luxiao agreed. Nan Chu tried to invite Xi Gu to her evening acting class performance, but Xi Gu had to cancel due to an engagement with Zong Ge. Learning this, Lin Luxiao volunteered to attend as her audience.

Nan Chu was initially hesitant, embarrassed by her previous performance issues, but Lin Luxiao encouraged her to be confident, emphasizing that in the learning phase, there was nothing to fear. At the class, the teacher, Mr. Jin, explained the exercise: performing scenes with familiar, trusted individuals would help students overcome their performance anxiety and psychological barriers, which he called "liberating their nature." When told he would also have to perform, Lin Luxiao became nervous.

Nan Chu reassured him, telling him to just stand by her like a "fire hydrant." Mr. Jin selected them first, and upon learning Lin Luxiao was Nan Chu's firefighter boyfriend, assigned them a scene about meeting again after he had saved her. Nan Chu chose to perform using dance and acting, set to music, without dialogue.

Her performance depicted their history, including the times firefighters had saved her, and her evolving emotions towards Lin Luxiao, culminating in a moment resembling their first kiss. Mr. Jin praised their performance, noting the genuine emotion conveyed without a single line of dialogue, attributing its success to their empathy and Nan Chu's newfound confidence on stage. He urged Nan Chu to remember that confident feeling.

Mr. Ma informed Lin Qi that the company wanted him to learn dancing and participate in a talent show to become a pop star. Lin Qi protested, stating his only interest was playing the violin to let more people hear his music. Mr. Ma dismissed his ambition, revealing the company invested in him for his appearance, not his musical talent, and ordered him to comply. Lin Qi refused to learn dancing and decided to quit.

Mr. Ma then informed him of the significant five-million-yuan penalty for breaching his ten-year contract, which stipulated a 30% loss compensation for early termination by either party, in addition to training and costume costs incurred during his employment. Upset, Lin Qi met Jiang Ge for drinks and explained his predicament.

Jiang Ge initially criticized Lin Qi for being impulsive and not reading his contract carefully, but, seeing his distress, promised to handle the matter, stating Lin should not have to resort to dancing. The scene then showed Jiang Ge arriving at Mr. Ma's office, indicating his intention to intervene in the contract dispute. Lin Luxiao visited Captain Meng, who confirmed Yang Zhengang's rehabilitation approval and assigned Lin to assist him with escort, care, and psychological recovery.

Lin Luxiao then asked about Lou Mingye's reforms. Captain Meng acknowledged Lou's constructive suggestions but urged both men to communicate better for the benefit of the firefighting service. Lou Mingye arrived during their conversation and discussed his equipment funding requests, which had been significantly reduced due to budget constraints. Lou argued for the necessity of advanced equipment, stating that "a craftsman must sharpen his tools" and that expenses on hardware could not be spared to reduce casualties.

Captain Meng instructed him to list the most urgent items for reconsideration at a brigade meeting. Captain Meng also informed Lou about the upcoming comprehensive National Firefighting Competition, which would soon begin in Beixun. He emphasized its importance, stating that provincial officials would inspect and select the team to represent Beixun, necessitating rigorous training. Lou Mingye announced to the station that daily training would increase, in addition to normal dispatches, for the upcoming comprehensive National Firefighting Competition.

He demanded excellence in both traditional skills and the use of new technology and equipment, especially from Combat Units 1 and 2. Performance during this period would contribute to their evaluations. Drivers like Qi Huo were confirmed to be eligible to participate. Qi Huo received a call from his father, Captain Meng, who instructed him to visit his grandpa during his holiday, as his mother was on duty and Meng himself was leaving on a business trip.

Meng also told Qi Huo to perform well in the competition, mentioning Lou Mingye's high standards. Qi Huo promised to seize the opportunity, seeing it as a chance for himself. Fang Xiangqian, who was looking for Qi Huo, overheard the call and realized Captain Meng was Qi Huo's father.

In a public service announcement, Jin Kexi shared fire safety tips for crowded venues, advising awareness of exits and evacuation signs, calm and orderly evacuation in case of fire, seeking exits and holding onto sturdy objects during crowding to prevent falls, avoiding going against the flow, calling the police, and staying away from accident scenes to prevent secondary harm.

Episode 22 Recap

Shao Yijiu expressed nervousness about participating in the upcoming fire service competition, but Qin Shiquan advised that to excel, they needed to play to their respective strengths, suggesting their new equipment could be a key advantage. Elsewhere, Fang Xiangqian asked Qin Shiquan for a loan, citing family matters, and Qin Shiquan readily agreed to help. Lin Luxiao accompanied Yang Zhengang to a rehabilitation center, where Yang, with his fighting spirit restored, diligently focused on his recovery.

During a conversation, Lin confessed that since Yang's injury, he had been contemplating the nature of their profession. Yang explained that he initially saw firefighting as an honor and a responsibility, but it eventually became a habit. He believed Lin, however, was a natural-born firefighter, a sentiment Lin acknowledged, admitting he had never considered another career. Despite this, Lin confided that he no longer felt as fearless as he once was.

In the past, he would charge into any danger without hesitation, but his relationship with Nan Chu had given him a new reason to be cautious. He deeply appreciated Nan Chu's understanding and support for his work on the front lines, which made him even more determined not to let her down. Meanwhile, after a choreography teacher criticized their performance for lacking soul, Nan Chu proposed integrating storytelling and performance into their routines.

She and her colleagues began studying classic dance dramas and musicals for inspiration. Shen Guangzong helped Xi Gu look for an apartment, but she found the options she liked were too expensive. Knowing Nan Chu was already paying for her acting classes and the dance club's expenses, Xi Gu was reluctant to add to her financial burden. Shen Guangzong offered to ask the company's chairman, Mr. Han, to cover their rent.

While chatting with Yang Zhengang, Lin Luxiao overheard cries for help. After learning a group was trapped on a mountain after a canyoning accident, he identified himself as a firefighter and rushed to the scene. The group's leader, Qianglyu, had fallen and been injured while trying to rescue a teammate. The Heping Road Special Service Station received the official notification, and Lou Mingye quickly led a team to the site.

Using the available canyoning equipment, Lin Luxiao rescued the injured Qianglyu and administered first aid. When Lou Mingye's team arrived, Lin directed them to the remaining trapped individuals. The rescue mission was delayed, first because their main route was blocked and Fang Xiangqian, the driver, was unsure of a shortcut, and later because his fire truck got stuck in the mud. Yang Zhengang worried about the repercussions, but Lin Luxiao was confident Lou Mingye would handle it.

That evening, Lou Mingye held a meeting, declaring the rescue a failure and holding Fang Xiangqian responsible for the delay due to a lack of preparation. Refusing to hear any excuses, Lou stated he only cared about results. He then reassigned Qi Huo as the primary driver for the special service unit and moved Fang Xiangqian to the second team.

Liu Ruyi spoke up, arguing the decision was unfair and that a firefighter's capability is measured by comprehensive strength, citing Fang's extensive experience. Lou Mingye dismissed this, asserting that Qi Huo had performed better in this specific situation. Fang Xiangqian challenged the decision's fairness, accusing Lou Mingye of trying to curry favor with Captain Meng. He then exposed Qi Huo's father-son relationship with the captain, a fact unknown to many.

The accusation deeply angered Qi Huo, who retorted that all his achievements were the result of his own hard work. Following the cancellation of his show, Jiang Ge developed a detailed proposal for a life-sharing online platform. His father, impressed by his son's research and newfound maturity, agreed to seriously consider the project. Shortly after, Jiang Ge helped Lin Qi secure a release from his old contract, and Lin Qi is now an artist with Jiang Ge's family company.

Jiang Ge then shared his platform idea with Lin Qi. They brought the proposal to Nan Chu, whose vision aligned perfectly with theirs. The three eagerly agreed to collaborate on the project, viewing it as a new challenge. In the fire station, some firefighters began questioning Lou Mingye's reforms, speculating he was showing favoritism to Qi Huo. However, others like Qin Shiquan supported the new competitive system, believing it would improve overall capabilities.

Later, Qin Shiquan found a disheartened Qi Huo cleaning a fire truck and encouraged him not to take the gossip to heart, reassuring him that the team was not targeting him personally but simply needed time to adjust to the new system.

Episode 23 Recap

Standing before a suggestion box, Instructor Yang was advised to review the feedback inside before saying goodbye to the station. The box contained various comments, including humorous critiques about his poor cooking, but also heartfelt messages praising his dedication, his readiness to help others, and concern for his well-being, urging him to also rely on the team when he faced difficulties. Later, some of the younger firefighters discussed the competitive system implemented by Director Lou Mingye.

Qin Shiquan stated that he believed the system was an opportunity that could help improve everyone's capabilities. He revealed his ambitious goals: not only joining Combat Unit 1 but becoming its leader and eventually the director of the special division unit. Qi Huo agreed, emphasizing his desire to prove himself without relying on his father, stating he became a firefighter purely out of childhood passion.

When asked about his different surname, Qi Huo explained he uses his mother's surname to avoid suspicion because his father is Captain Meng Guohong. Meanwhile, Fang seemed dejected, still bothered by something that happened the previous night. Lei Dagang advised him not to dwell on it, suggesting that driving the truck is the same no matter where he is assigned. Fang disagreed, feeling that Lou Mingye found an excuse to transfer him instead of being direct.

Lei Dagang gently told him he was impulsive the day before and should focus on their work rather than dwelling on other matters. Shortly after, Fang approached Lei Dagang to borrow money, explaining that his kitchen had leaked and flooded the downstairs neighbor's newly renovated apartment, requiring him to pay for repairs. Fang initially asked for a large sum, surprising Lei Dagang, who explained his tight financial situation, needing his wife's permission for even small amounts.

Lei Dagang eventually offered to try to get 5,000 yuan from his wife and asked Fang to provide an IOU. Meng Guohong met with Lou Mingye to discuss personnel assignments, specifically regarding Fang and Qi Huo. Meng Guohong explained that only Instructor Yang Zhengang knew about his relationship with Qi Huo, and he hadn't disclosed it to avoid the very situation they were in.

He felt Fang's punishment was too severe for what wasn't a major error and suggested transferring Fang back to the main truck driver position, noting that while Qi Huo was good with maps, he lacked experience. Meng Guohong admitted his request was selfish but felt it necessary to avoid gossip within the station, despite Lou Mingye's stance on adhering to established rules and principles. Qi Huo, having overheard the conversation, confronted his father.

He questioned if his extensive efforts to learn the area map were in vain simply because he was Meng Guohong's son, making any achievement seem like favoritism. Qi Huo demanded a logical reason for potentially being moved from the main truck, asking if Meng Guohong was acting as a leader or a father. Later, Meng Guohong sought advice from Lin Luxiao's old class monitor, who agreed that Meng Guohong's handling of Qi Huo's situation was inappropriate.

The old class monitor praised Qi Huo's dedication, comparing him to a younger Meng Guohong who also tirelessly studied maps. He urged Meng Guohong to talk to his son properly and encourage his passion for being a firefighter rather than extinguishing it. Meng Guohong admitted he struggled to communicate with his children without getting angry, feeling trapped by a "dad" image. Qi Huo then went to Lou Mingye and directly asked if he was being transferred from the main truck.

Lou Mingye questioned if the rumors were about his identity or his ability. Qi Huo confessed that he felt his identity as Meng Guohong's son was a heavy burden, requiring him to work harder than others to achieve the same recognition. Lou Mingye acknowledged that identity couldn't be changed but reiterated that the competitive system was fair. He told Qi Huo to raise his head and not be bothered by gossip, citing his own experience of constantly being talked about.

Lou Mingye affirmed that Qi Huo had earned his position and the station's decision was valid; he would remain the driver of Truck 1 until someone demonstrably more capable emerged. Lou Mingye introduced training on thermal imaging drones, highlighting their use in international firefighting for search and rescue, forest fires, and urban incidents, providing remote command and clear real-time images.

He stated that mastering this technology would become part of daily training assessments and warned that anyone unable to adapt or meet the requirements, regardless of their position, would be moved from the front line to the logistics department. Meanwhile, Jiang Ge informed Nan Chu that his father had connected her with Director Deng Yi of the Beixun Theater. Jiang Ge sent her the contact information, noting that getting the performance slot would depend on their own ability.

Nan Chu was excited by the opportunity. Later, Jiang Ge discussed finding safe housing for Nan Chu and Xi Gu. His father called, asked about the housing search, and then inquired about Nan Chu. Jiang Ge explained she was rehearsing with Dream Dance Club and hoped to promote the club through the theater opportunity, clarifying that she would not perform herself due to her contract.

Back at the station, Yijiu expressed worry about failing the drone assessment and being moved from the front line. Liu Ruyi dismissed the new technology, likening it to a "paper tiger," and insisting that human effort remained paramount in rescue work. Another colleague interrupted, telling Liu Ruyi that such comments were inappropriate for his position as assistant and were causing trouble, reminding everyone of the ongoing issues at the station. Liu Ruyi then took Yijiu to practice with the drones.

Separately, Qin Shiquan sought out Lou Mingye, who was practicing with a drone in the garage. Qin Shiquan expressed his admiration for Lou Mingye's expertise in both drones and canyoning, stating that the new technologies introduced had given him a new perspective on fire rescue. He asked Lou Mingye to be his teacher, accepting that the requirements would be strict. At the dance studio, Nan Chu watched her dancers practice.

The dancers expressed disappointment about not performing at the Beixun Theater and urged Nan Chu to try and join them on stage, calling it a rare opportunity. Nan Chu explained she couldn't due to her company contract but promised to join them next time, seeing this performance as a first step for the club. After the dancers left, Lin Luxiao arrived. Nan Chu admitted her disappointment but emphasized the importance of adhering to her contract and expressing gratitude.

She found an upside to not performing: she could objectively see the club's weaknesses, realizing they lacked emotional expression rather than technical skill. Struggling to find a theme for their next dance, Lin Luxiao reminded her of her passion for dancing and feeling like she was "shining" on stage, suggesting "persistence" as a theme, drawing on their own experiences. Nan Chu found this idea inspiring. The next day, Lei Dagang confided in Yu Qilei about his anxieties.

He explained his background, having joined the army and then become a firefighter after high school with limited formal education. He felt he couldn't compete with the younger firefighters in new skills like simulations and drones, unlike his proficiency in traditional skills like ladder climbing. He worried about the financial impact on his family if he were transferred to logistics, as his wife was a regular office worker and his parents and child had health and education costs.

He expressed his strong desire to stay on the front line. He asked Yu Qilei to speak to Lou Mingye on his behalf and even suggested transferring others like Zheng Yang and An Weiren who had previously expressed interest in logistics. Yu Qilei reassured him not to be overly anxious, promising to talk to the director about his situation.

Shortly after, Zheng Yang confronted Lei Dagang, accusing him of speaking to a leader about transferring people to logistics, having overheard parts of the conversation or previous remarks. An Weiren joined in, calling Lei Dagang a "tattletale" and a "backstabber." A heated argument ensued until Yu Qilei intervened, breaking up the fight and reminding them about the assessment scheduled for the following day, urging them to focus on training.

The next day, Meng Guohong was present as the team lined up for the assessment. He gave the command to begin, and the firefighters commenced a drill involving fire hoses and equipment. Meng Guohong observed, noting that the young firefighters seemed nervous but eager to perform well.

Episode 24 Recap

During a fire assessment, conflict erupted between firefighters. While attempting a drill involving drones, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan argued, accusing each other of causing mistakes. Director Lou Mingye arrived and stopped the fight, demanding an explanation. Shao Yijiu blamed Qin Shiquan for not paying attention to the hose, while Qin Shiquan retorted that Shao Yijiu was too slow.

Exasperated, Lou Mingye declared that their excuses were unacceptable, canceled all leave starting immediately, and ordered everyone to run a 10K with weights as punishment and reflection. Liu Ruyi confronted Lou Mingye, stating that Lou Mingye should be the one reflecting on why the team had become this way since his arrival. Liu Ruyi questioned Lou Mingye's fitness to be director and refused to do the run.

Later, Qin Shiquan stopped Shao Yijiu, asking about his recent strange behavior and stating that he had noticed Shao Yijiu's problematic attitude towards him. Shao Yijiu then accused Qin Shiquan of changing and forgetting who had saved them from the earthquake and taken them as apprentices (Lin Luxiao) by apprenticing with Lou Mingye. Qin Shiquan clarified that while he had apprenticed with Lou Mingye, he still considered Lin Luxiao his master and saw no conflict.

He acknowledged Lin Luxiao's prowess but also praised Lou Mingye's strengths, particularly his new equipment, concepts, and the use of drones, which he felt offered valuable insights and helped him strive to be a better firefighter. Shao Yijiu dismissed this, arguing that Lou Mingye was an incompetent director whose focus on competition had divided the team.

He reminded Qin Shiquan of Lin Luxiao's teaching that firefighters must be able to trust their brothers with their lives and the stories they saw in the award room. Shao Yijiu called Qin Shiquan utilitarian for prioritizing advancement, leading to a heated exchange where they accused each other of mixing concepts and being biased, before parting ways frustrated. After a workout, Yu Qilei found Liu Ruyi looking pale and out of breath.

Despite Liu Ruyi's initial reluctance to see a doctor, especially if it meant going to Dr. Xia Wan and being reminded of Lou Mingye, Yu Qilei insisted, convincing him to get checked out. At the hospital, Dr. Xia Wan examined Liu Ruyi and concluded his symptoms were likely due to work-related stress. Liu Ruyi voiced his frustration with Lou Mingye's new approach, including the unfamiliar equipment and technology, and the intense competition mechanism that made him fear being eliminated.

Xia Wan advised him to focus on solving the problem and proving himself through his abilities rather than complaining. As Liu Ruyi prepared to leave, Xia Wan gave him a cup she had gotten from a "buy one get one free" sale, which lifted his spirits. Yang Zhengang informed Lin Luxiao that his application to transfer to the administration had been approved and he would report the following Monday.

Yang Zhengang expressed concern for the Heping Road Special Division Station, which he felt was in trouble after the recent disastrous assessment, exacerbated by new initiatives like the drone program. While understanding Lin Luxiao's reluctance to interfere with Lou Mingye's reforms, Yang Zhengang argued that reform needed to be gradual and cited issues like Lou Mingye filing a report to remove Liu Ruyi from his assistant position as evidence of problems.

Calling the station their "child," Yang Zhengang proposed that Lin Luxiao return as the station's instructor, taking over his vacant role. Lin Luxiao hesitated, questioning whether it would be appropriate and if he was suited for the role after being the former director, but Yang Zhengang urged him to consider it, reminding him of their commitment as veteran firefighters and the principle of going where needed. Lin Luxiao agreed to think about it.

Nan Chu was leading rehearsal for the Dream Dance Club, working on a piece about losing a child. The dancers were struggling to express the emotion effectively, making Nan Chu anxious, although she couldn't directly intervene or say too much for fear of affecting their mood. She called Lin Luxiao, describing the rehearsal difficulties. Lin Luxiao took her out to relax. During their outing, he shared that this was essentially their second real date due to their past schedules.

He then told her about Yang Zhengang's request for him to return to the Heping Road station as the instructor. Lin Luxiao confessed his conflicting feelings: concern for his brothers and the station's issues, especially as they had faced dangers together, but also the worry that returning to the demanding role would mean very little time for Nan Chu. He asked for her opinion.

Nan Chu immediately stated she would support him if it was what he wanted to do, saying she believed he belonged on the front line. Later that night, Nan Chu spoke with Xi Gu, admitting she couldn't sleep. She confirmed Lin Luxiao was returning to the front line as instructor and worried about how little time they would have, though she added she was used to it.

She then confided her fear, citing the South Bay Harbor explosion where many firefighters died and Yang Zhengang was injured, admitting she feared for Lin Luxiao's safety if he returned to the front line. Xi Gu suggested she talk to him about her worries, but Nan Chu felt conflicted and selfish.

She knew she should respect his profession and let him do his duty, but she couldn't shake the selfish desire for him to stay in the Fire Investigation Department so they could spend more time together. Xi Gu observed her internal struggle and told her she didn't need to be so torn, predicting that she would ultimately choose to support Lin Luxiao. Nan Chu agreed, resolving to support him and make time for him if he was busy.

Yang Zhengang and Lin Luxiao visited Captain Meng Guohong. Yang Zhengang expressed concern over the recent poor assessment at the Heping Road station, emphasizing its decline from its former excellence. He proposed that Lin Luxiao return as the station's instructor, a position that had been vacant since his accident. Lin Luxiao added that he had initially doubted his suitability but decided to accept the challenge.

He argued that as the former director, he had strong relationships with the firefighters and familiarity with the station, making him a suitable candidate to address morale and unity issues. Captain Meng acknowledged their resolve but warned that they needed to demonstrate significant improvement and professionalism at the station. He agreed to give them a chance and tasked Lin Luxiao with resolving the complaint report Lou Mingye had filed against Liu Ruyi as his first mission.

Lin Luxiao promised to address the problems and rebuild a cohesive team. Lou Mingye addressed the firefighters, outlining three measures: increased training with real combat opportunities, the option for those lacking commitment to transfer, and the immediate cancellation of all leave until the station returned to peak condition, emphasizing that he would cancel his own leave first as a leader. Following this, Lin Luxiao was formally introduced as the new instructor, to the visible delight of many of the firefighters.

Yu Qilei, whose accumulated leave was canceled, called his wife Milan to explain that he couldn't come home for their daughter Miaomiao's birthday due to the new policy. Milan sounded disappointed and told him to explain it to Miaomiao himself, suggesting his past unfulfilled promises had made it difficult for her to believe him. Later, in the mess hall, Liu Ruyi and others warmly welcomed Lin Luxiao back. Liu Ruyi immediately asked about the report filed against him.

Lin Luxiao confirmed Captain Meng Guohong had given it to him and he would investigate the situation to determine who was at fault. Lin Luxiao then turned his attention to Shao Yijiu, expressing dissatisfaction with his low assessment score and questioning his attitude and recent performance. Meanwhile, Yu Qilei quietly approached Lin Luxiao, explaining his predicament with the canceled leave preventing him from attending Miaomiao's birthday and asking for help talking to Lou Mingye.

Lin Luxiao understood and agreed to discuss it with Lou Mingye, reminding Yu Qilei that he was now the instructor. Lin Luxiao spoke with Director Lou Mingye about Yu Qilei's request for leave. He advocated for Yu Qilei, highlighting his long service and the importance of this leave for his daughter's birthday, and asked Lou Mingye to show understanding and consider humane management.

Lou Mingye initially expressed frustration at Lin Luxiao asking for leave right after his no-leave announcement but agreed to consider Yu Qilei's case. He then brought up Liu Ruyi's report, which was now with Lin Luxiao. Lin Luxiao confirmed he would handle it, stating Liu Ruyi would continue working normally for the time being.

Lou Mingye clarified that he didn't file the report to get rid of Liu Ruyi but felt he was not currently capable of performing the Station Assistant duties. Lin Luxiao acknowledged this and explained his role as instructor was to assist Lou Mingye, with Lou handling operations and Lin Luxiao focusing on other issues that needed time to resolve. Yu Qilei excitedly told Liu Ruyi that his leave had been approved, crediting Instructor Lin Luxiao for talking to Lou Mingye.

Liu Ruyi interpreted this as Lou Mingye trying to curry favor and win people over now that Lin Luxiao was back. Yu Qilei disagreed, defending Lou Mingye as serious but not unreasonable, merely intensely focused on improving the team's performance and technology. Liu Ruyi remained unconvinced and found Lou Mingye annoying. Separately, Xi Gu took Nan Chu to a new apartment she had rented.

Nan Chu worried about the cost, but Xi Gu reassured her that Shen Guangzong had arranged for the company to cover the rent. Nan Chu was surprised and pleased to discover the apartment had a direct view of the Heping Road Special Division Station.

Xi Gu gave her a pair of binoculars as a gift, saying she could use them to see Lin Luxiao when he was busy, and expressed her hope that they would have a happy relationship, calling Nan Chu her "love template." Han Beiyao summoned Nan Chu to her office.

She implied Nan Chu's recent lack of work assignments was due to past disappointments but stated that after months, including acting classes nearing completion, it was time for Nan Chu to contribute again. When Nan Chu expressed a desire to balance company work with time for the Dream Dance Club, Han Beiyao cut her off, declaring that from now on, Nan Chu's primary work was dancing.

Han Beiyao revealed that the company would support the Dream Dance Club project with Nan Chu as the lead, aiming for a performance at the Beixun Theater. She explained that Shen Guangzong showing her a video of Nan Chu rehearsing had inspired her to promote Nan Chu by showcasing her authentic state in life.

Episode 25 Recap

Public service announcements by firefighters clarified that, according to the Fire Safety Act, 119 emergency services for fire extinguishing and rescue are provided free of charge, with no fees for water, fuel, or emergency calls. They also emphasized the critical importance of refraining from making unwarranted emergency calls or false reports, as these actions are unlawful and divert vital resources from individuals in genuine peril. Separately, a man whose car caught fire was rescued by firefighters.

He profusely thanked them and asked how much he owed, offering various payment methods, including cash and QR codes. Firefighters reiterated that their services are free of charge. Another individual who broke a mechanism they bought online asked firefighters for help. The firefighters used electric pliers to fix it and advised the person to be careful and not play with it in that manner again.

Han Beiyao met with Nan Chu and expressed her disappointment with Nan Chu's previous public performance. However, seeing a video of Nan Chu's dance rehearsal shown by Shen Guangzong inspired a new idea: presenting Nan Chu's authentic self might be more impactful. Professor Jin Kexi also believed Nan Chu had potential. Han Beiyao offered Nan Chu a chance to perform on the Beixun Theater stage through an upcoming performance, stating that whether she succeeds depends on her own effort.

Nan Chu confidently declared she would succeed. Han Beiyao clarified it would be only one chance, as Nan Chu is a signed artist, not solely a dancer, and company resources could not always be focused on her. Yu Qilei, home on leave, called his wife Milan and learned their daughter Miaomiao was at an interest class. He went to the interest class to pick up Miaomiao. Ms. Zhang, Miaomiao's teacher, noted it was usually Milan who picked her up.

Yu Qilei explained he works out of town and doesn't return often, so Miaomiao's mother usually handled pickups. He happily reunited with Miaomiao, who was excited to see him. That evening, Milan was cooking dinner. Yu Qilei offered to help, but Milan insisted on cooking as planned. He thanked her for her hard work. Milan mentioned that Miaomiao didn't want to continue the interest class because she wasn't getting along with her classmates.

Yu Qilei asked if Milan had inquired why, but Milan said Miaomiao refused to say and suggested Yu Qilei ask her directly. During Miaomiao's birthday celebration, they sang and presented her with a cake. Yu Qilei gave Miaomiao a gift, which turned out to be a firefighter figure. Miaomiao was thrilled and wanted to play immediately, but Milan insisted she eat first.

When Miaomiao showed passive resistance towards eating, Yu Qilei intervened, suggesting she could play now and eat later when she was hungry. This decision annoyed Milan, who felt Yu Qilei undermined the rules she had set while he was away. Yu Qilei defended it as her birthday, trying to ease the tension. Later, Yu Qilei went into Miaomiao's room to talk privately. He asked about the interest class again. Miaomiao revealed that the other children bullied her.

When she told them her dad was a firefighter, they didn't believe her and claimed he must be a bad person who was arrested, which is why he never picked her up. Yu Qilei promised to pick her up the next day wearing his orange firefighter uniform to show them. Miaomiao was delighted and made a pinky swear with him, asking him not to lie this time. Yu Qilei reassured her he would never lie to her.

While heading to the brigade for a meeting, Lin Luxiao stopped by the Dream Dance Club to see Nan Chu. He found her busy rehearsing. He told her he had to return to the station for some work but ordered dinner for the dance team, reminding them to eat despite their training. After dinner, Nan Chu went to the special division unit to see Lin Luxiao at the gate.

She excitedly shared that Han Beiyao had approved her participation in the upcoming performance, meaning she could finally get on stage if their dance was approved. Lin Luxiao promised to be there to watch. She then shared more good news: she had rented an apartment nearby.

Pointing out a balcony with star lights visible from the station, she explained that his place was too far and now they could see each other every day, no matter how late he finished work. Overjoyed, they shared a kiss. However, an emergency call about a social assistance case required Lin Luxiao to leave immediately, and he told Nan Chu to go home safely.

Yu Qilei called Lin Luxiao, asking if he knew any firefighters in his home area because he needed to pick up Miaomiao in uniform the next day as promised. Lin Luxiao didn't know anyone personally but offered to ask Captain Meng. Yu Qilei declined, saying he would try to buy a uniform part at a local fire equipment store instead, though he doubted they would have the full turnout gear.

Lin Luxiao checked in on how things were at home, and Yu Qilei said things were fine, he had just gotten Miaomiao to sleep. Lin Luxiao encouraged him to stay longer with his family. The next day, Yu Qilei took Miaomiao to her interest class, reminding her of his promise to pick her up in his uniform later.

Soon after, he saw smoke and emergency activity nearby and realized there had been a structural collapse during demolition near the interest class building where Miaomiao was. Rushing back, he found the building had collapsed, trapping many children and teachers. Identifying himself as a firefighter and structural engineer from Beixun City, he immediately offered his assistance in the rescue operation. Inside the collapsed structure, Yu Qilei searched frantically, calling out Miaomiao's name. He located her trapped under debris.

However, he also saw another child trapped nearby who was closer to him. Facing an agonizing decision, he prioritized rescuing the child closest to him, while urging Miaomiao to stay put and wait for him. After successfully rescuing the other child and bringing her out to her waiting parent, Yu Qilei rushed back to Miaomiao. He rescued his daughter and brought her out. His wife Milan was there and saw his actions.

Yu Qilei tried to explain that he had judged Miaomiao to be temporarily safe and had to save the person closest to him first, as saving Miaomiao immediately could have endangered those nearby. However, Milan was unable to understand his choice in the moment and and left with Miaomiao for the hospital, refusing to listen further. Later that night, Yu Qilei spoke with Miaomiao, fearing she might blame him.

But Miaomiao said she understood, recalling his lesson that firefighters must always save the person closest to them first. Miaomiao then expressed her wish for him to visit more often, noting that she saw Milan crying alone because she missed him. Yu Qilei promised to spend every day with her in the future and asked for some time. Before he left her room, Miaomiao gave him a drawing she made. Yu Qilei then spoke with Milan, who was still awake.

Milan confronted him, asking what would have happened if Miaomiao had been seriously hurt. Yu Qilei reiterated his reasoning for prioritizing the other child. He admitted that balancing his career and family life had been incredibly difficult over the years. He told Milan the situation at the station was currently chaotic and asked for just one more year to try and arrange a transfer back to Beixun.

Milan was skeptical, reminding him he had said the same thing three years ago and felt his presence or absence made no difference to the family now. She told him there was food in the fridge for him before going to sleep. The next day, Yu Qilei returned to the special division unit earlier than expected from his leave. Liu Ruyi asked him about it and whether he had argued with Milan.

Yu Qilei denied arguing, saying he came back because Miaomiao was at school and Milan was working. Lin Luxiao saw Yu Qilei and noticed he seemed troubled. He stopped Yu Qilei from unpacking and took him and Liu out, claiming they were going for "Six Familiarities." This turned out to be dinner and drinks, as Lin Luxiao felt they hadn't had a chance to gather properly lately.

He specifically asked Liu to make sure Yu Qilei drank, explaining it was a good day because their days off happened to align. Meanwhile, at the Dream Dance Club, Nan Chu and the dance team were filming their audition video. During the rehearsal, Nan Chu accidentally twisted her ankle. Despite the pain, she insisted it was not a serious injury and determinedly continued filming, telling the rest of the team to keep practicing. Sha Sha helped her with a bandage.

Director Deng called, inquiring about the video submission, as others had already submitted theirs. Nan Chu assured him she would send it later that evening. Lin Luxiao called her during the break to check in. Nan Chu admitted she was nervous but he reassured her she would succeed. Nan Chu asked him to celebrate with her alone if she successfully completed the video.

Firefighters also delivered public safety information, emphasizing the critical importance of fire safety in schools, which directly relates to the healthy development of future generations and social stability. They highlighted that schools, despite their single primary function, face numerous fire risks, including electrical faults and improper operations, and sometimes suffer from insufficient attention or poor management regarding safety.

Given the large number of people in schools, any blockage of evacuation paths or exits during a fire could easily lead to severe casualties, reinforcing the irreversible nature of fire damage and the necessity of remembering campus safety rules.

Episode 26 Recap

Nan Chu went to the hospital seeking an anesthesia shot for her foot injury to avoid delaying her video recording. The doctor warned her about potential muscle damage and increased pain later, but she insisted, stating it was very important. She did not inform Lin Luxiao about the injury's severity. Meanwhile, Yu Qilei, Lin Luxiao, and Liu Ruyi were having a drink.

Yu Qilei expressed his feelings of helplessness, admitting he felt increasingly sorry for his wife Milan and daughter Miaomiao over the years while still unable to give up his work. He confessed he felt selfish. Lin Luxiao acknowledged the difficulty of balancing career, family, and self-esteem, suggesting these require slow calibration and choices.

Regarding his own relationship with Nan Chu, Lin Luxiao felt they shared a love for their respective careers and believed they came together due to shared similarities, trusting each other to face potential future difficulties with courage. Liu Ruyi envied Lin Luxiao's courage in love, feeling lost and confused in both his romantic life, possibly referencing an issue with Dr. Xia Wan, and his career, unable to find direction.

Lin Luxiao brushed off Liu Ruyi's career confusion, telling him to focus on training and missions, mentioning he was waiting for an opportunity. After receiving the anesthesia shot, Nan Chu completed filming her dance video with her dance club members. They were thrilled when Director Deng called, confirming their performance was approved for Beixun Theater. Lin Luxiao met with Nan Chu afterward. Noticing her sprained ankle, he offered to carry her but she declined.

He advised her on treating the injury with ice and later medication and heat, unaware of how severely her condition would worsen due to the shot and subsequent dancing. Xi Gu was present when Lin Luxiao dropped Nan Chu off, and he asked Xi Gu to support her. Back at the station, Lou Mingye confronted Lin Luxiao about taking Yu Qilei and Liu Ruyi out drinking.

Lin Luxiao defended his actions, explaining Yu Qilei's poor state and stating he had secured permission and arranged for staff coverage before they left. He emphasized his role in managing the emotional and personal well-being of the team, distinct from Lou Mingye's focus on operational tasks. Lin Luxiao argued that while Lou might see the special division unit merely as a workplace, for many, it was like a home, given how much time they spent there.

He countered Lou's assertion that family issues shouldn't impact work by highlighting the sacrifices firefighters make regarding time with their families. Lin Luxiao proposed holding a family open house day at the station so team members' relatives could visit. Lou Mingye immediately objected, citing ongoing work issues and lack of time, but Lin Luxiao, exercising his authority as instructor, confirmed the event would take place, assigning responsibility for its planning to himself.

The following day, Lin Luxiao announced the upcoming family open house day to the firefighters during a meeting. The team reacted with excitement. Lou Mingye reiterated his formal disagreement but stated he would not interfere, making it clear all planning and issues were Lin Luxiao's responsibility. Lin Luxiao specifically encouraged Yu Qilei to invite his wife Milan and daughter Miaomiao, seeing it as an opportunity. Yu Qilei called Milan, first speaking with Miaomiao, who was eager to visit.

However, Milan declined the invitation, citing their busy schedules and questioning why he didn't just come home instead. Yu Qilei was visibly disappointed by her refusal. Nan Chu's foot injury significantly worsened. Revisiting the clinic, the doctor attributed the severity to her dancing after the anesthesia shot, prescribing medication, ice, and rest. Soon after, Nan Chu received another call from Director Deng.

He praised the dance but informed her that Beixun Theater had booked a long-term touring show, canceling their slot and making it impossible to reschedule within the year. Though he suggested contacting other theaters, the opportunity to perform at Beixun was lost. Devastated, Nan Chu left the clinic silently, causing worry for Xi Gu and Lin Luxiao, who couldn't reach her initially.

When Lin Luxiao texted, she replied that she was fine but added a message suggesting that effort and sweat alone don't guarantee success; luck is also necessary. Lin Luxiao then contacted Xi Gu, who confirmed Nan Chu was home but had retreated into her room. Lin Luxiao asked Xi Gu to comfort her and stay in touch. Lin Luxiao later met with Xi Gu, giving her an invitation to the family open house day for Nan Chu.

From the station rooftop, Lin Luxiao conveyed a message of encouragement to Nan Chu, telling her that after all her hard work, good luck would come for her audition. Meanwhile, Shen Guangzong made an effort to help Nan Chu by attending a dinner party where he encountered a famous producer connected to Director He Zhengping. Despite getting very drunk, Shen Guangzong successfully advocated for Nan Chu by showing the producer a video of her dancing.

Xi Gu later explained to Nan Chu that while Shen Guangzong worked hard for the chance, the audition opportunity with Director He's project was ultimately secured because her talent, demonstrated in the video, impressed the producer. The family open house day was held at the station. Nan Chu attended. Yu Qilei watched his comrades interact with their visiting families, feeling envious. Lin Luxiao arranged a surprise for Lou Mingye by inviting his mother, who was warmly welcomed.

Yu Qilei's day brightened considerably when Milan and Miaomiao arrived later, greeting them with great happiness. Nan Chu shared her good news with Lin Luxiao, telling him she had secured a movie audition with Director He Zhengping. Lin Luxiao expressed his happiness for her and wished her success. Lin Luxiao had prepared a "couple hose relay competition" for the event, and he and Nan Chu participated.

As they prepared, Lin Luxiao helped Nan Chu tie back her hair and offered another encouraging word for her audition. During the event, Yu Qilei had a heartfelt conversation with Milan, expressing regret for the limited time he'd spent with them over the years and promising to make more time in the future, reflecting on significant moments like their lack of a wedding and Milan's difficult delivery with Miaomiao.

Additionally, a firefighter conducted a fire safety demonstration, explaining how to use a fire hydrant and emphasizing the crucial safety rule of cutting off power before using water on electrical fires.

Episode 27 Recap

Milan expresses the years of grievances she has accumulated within her marriage. She recounts not having a wedding and Yu Qilei being absent for their daughter Miaomiao's birth, stating she could endure these things. However, her pain peaked during a recent incident when she begged Yu Qilei to save Miaomiao first, but he still rescued others. She acknowledges that as a firefighter, he has his principles, which she understands but cannot accept.

She feels she is selfish and incapable of being as selfless as him. For years, she has tried her best to be understanding, but now realizes she was forcing herself and him, leaving her exhausted. She formally proposes divorce, believing it would be a relief for both of them. Yu Qilei admits his shortcomings towards Milan, Miaomiao, and their family, asking for another chance.

He promises to apply for a transfer once things at the station settle down so he can be more present. Milan questions if he is truly able or willing to transfer. She highlights that the only person they would be letting down by separating is their daughter, Miaomiao. She requests custody of Miaomiao and tells Yu Qilei to inform his parents, as she has already told hers.

Yu Qilei feels immense guilt for breaking his promise to Miaomiao again, acknowledging his failure as a father. Milan reassures him not to be overly self-critical, admitting she also failed to fully support his work, and reiterates that Miaomiao is the only one they owe an apology to. She expresses hope they can part ways respectfully, reminding him that he will always be Miaomiao's father, before leaving with their daughter.

Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu accidentally overhear the difficult conversation between Milan and Yu Qilei, finding it deeply unfortunate. Lin Luxiao understands Yu Qilei is struggling to balance his career and family life, believing Yu Qilei isn't inherently wrong. Nan Chu also sympathizes with Milan's decision, feeling she isn't wrong either, reflecting that many people simply desire a normal life and the challenge lies in the conflict between their professions and personal lives.

Later that night, Lin Luxiao finds Yu Qilei, intending to offer help or suggest further communication with Milan. However, Yu Qilei knows Milan's mind is made up, as she thinks everything through before speaking. He expresses remorse for disappointing Miaomiao again, feeling he has been a neglectful father. Seeing Yu Qilei's distress, Lin Luxiao silently stays by his side in support.

Separately, Lei Dagang learns that a colleague named Fang has borrowed money from several people in the station, including Qi Huo, Qin Shiquan, and Liu Ruyi, borrowing different amounts from each. Lei Dagang finds this pattern suspicious and worries that Fang might be facing trouble or being defrauded, especially since the reason given for borrowing such significant sums was merely a house leak.

During training, Lei Dagang is preoccupied with these concerns, leading him to perform poorly on a high-altitude crossing exercise, failing the required time. Lou Mingye notices and punishes him with night duty. Lin Luxiao approaches Lou Mingye to discuss the rigorous training schedule, feeling it is exhausting the team and hindering performance. He stresses that despite advanced equipment, people are the foundation of their work.

Lou Mingye disagrees, countering that humans are the most prone to error, recalling a past incident where words alone couldn't save a young boy, and reminds Lin Luxiao that his role is to manage morale, not dictate training. Lei Dagang requests leave from Lou Mingye to attend his son's birthday, explaining his earlier struggle was partly due to a recurring shoulder injury.

Lou Mingye refuses based on the principle of fairness and suggests re-evaluating Lei Dagang's suitability for frontline duty if his condition impacts his work. Lin Luxiao steps in, offering to take Lei Dagang's night shift, which Lou Mingye permits provided they coordinate it and Lei Dagang makes up the training. Lei Dagang is grateful. Lin Luxiao's colleague notices he hasn't had a proper break and encourages him to spend time with Nan Chu instead.

That evening, the special division unit receives an emergency call reporting a fire at a construction site. Lou Mingye leads the team to the scene. The fire is spreading rapidly, posing a significant risk due to the presence of flammable and explosive chemicals in a nearby warehouse. Lou Mingye gives commands, directing teams to aggressively combat the fire and prevent it from spreading to the chemicals.

Yijiu and Shiquan are ordered to deploy drones: one equipped with thermal imaging to locate any trapped individuals, and another carrying an extinguisher bomb for targeted deployment. Liu Ruyi and Combat Unit 1 are on standby for internal search and rescue. They successfully locate and extract two trapped individuals from a prefab structure. During the operation, Lou Mingye urgently instructs Yijiu and Shiquan to deploy the extinguisher bomb near the chemicals. Yijiu operates the drone but misses the target.

Shiquan, visibly frustrated, takes over the control, criticizing Yijiu's lack of skill and spatial prediction, and successfully drops the bomb. Following the main fire suppression, Lin Luxiao directs everyone to conduct a thorough search for any remaining hotspots, advising caution due to the compromised steel structure of the burned prefab building. Shiquan believes their assigned area is clear and wants to conclude the search, but Yijiu insists on meticulously following Lin Luxiao's order to check for reignition points.

Their disagreement escalates into an argument. Annoyed by Yijiu's perceived challenge to his competence, Shiquan impulsively re-enters the unstable structure to prove there are no hotspots. Lin Luxiao, worried for his safety, follows him to pull him out. Unexpectedly, a steel plate collapses, and Lin Luxiao shields Shiquan, taking the impact and sustaining an injury. Lin Luxiao is transported to the emergency room. Yijiu and Shiquan continue arguing about the incident, with Shiquan blaming Yijiu.

Lou Mingye arrives and severely reprimands them both for their actions, labeling their mistakes as basic and questioning their fitness for the special division unit. He also criticizes Liu Ruyi's leadership. Liu Ruyi, angered by the incident and Lou Mingye's reaction, confronts him, asserting that the issue is not just with Yijiu and Shiquan, but with the stressful competitive system Lou Mingye implemented, which is negatively impacting everyone's morale and teamwork.

He declares that if Lou Mingye continues this approach, he will report the situation to Captain Meng, as they cannot effectively operate under such conditions. Lou Mingye dismisses the complaint, stating everyone is free to report any issues to higher command if they disagree with his methods. Liu Ruyi, incensed by Lin Luxiao's injury and convinced Lou Mingye is to blame, decides to file a formal complaint with Captain Meng.

Lin Luxiao, currently being treated for his injury, fabricates the severity of his condition, claiming a possible spinal fracture that could end his firefighting career. He expresses his primary concern is the unity of the special division unit, emphasizing they must be a cohesive team and urging Liu Ruyi not to cause further disruption. He makes Liu Ruyi vow not to cause trouble for the station. Believing Lin Luxiao is gravely injured, Liu Ruyi solemnly makes the vow.

Lin Luxiao then reveals his injury is not serious, just a superficial scratch, but reminds Liu Ruyi of his promise, much to Liu Ruyi's chagrin. Despite his minor injury, Lin Luxiao goes to pick up Nan Chu. Nan Chu is concerned about his injury and offers to drive him home. Back at the station, Qin Shiquan expresses guilt for causing Lin Luxiao's injury.

Liu Ruyi maintains that Lou Mingye's policies are the root cause and proposes writing a joint letter to remove him. Yu Qilei disagrees, believing a joint letter isn't the solution and that Lou Mingye's intentions weren't malicious. Liu Ruyi becomes angry at Yu Qilei for seemingly defending Lou Mingye, making heated remarks that provoke Yu Qilei and further exacerbate the conflict among the team before they are ordered to turn off the lights and sleep.

The episode concludes with a segment providing tips on gas safety, including instructions on turning off stove switches, stove front valves, and main front valves when leaving for extended periods, supervising cooking, regularly checking gas hoses for wear, ensuring ventilation when using gas, and reporting any unusual odors to the gas company.

Episode 28 Recap

Nan Chu took Lin Luxiao home, where she noticed he was still recovering from an injury. She suggested he take a few days off from the station, but Lin Luxiao insisted on returning the next day. Nan Chu revealed she was leaving soon to shoot a drama for several months and expressed concern about being separated for so long, worrying about missing him or getting upset without him nearby.

Lin Luxiao promised they could video call every day and that he would visit whenever he had time off. Nan Chu questioned his limited days off and worried about who would care for him if he got injured again and didn't tell her. Before leaving, Lin Luxiao reminded her to eat the breakfast he had prepared for her. The following morning, Nan Chu woke to find Lin Luxiao had already left for the station after preparing her breakfast.

She sent him a message, urging him to stay safe and rest. Arriving at the station, Lin Luxiao found Yijiu and Shiquan distracted while washing the tender. He called them over and directly addressed them for their internal conflict and unruliness. He scolded Yijiu and Shiquan for their internal conflict, emphasizing that while people might call firefighters heroes, the real truth is that individual strength in a fire is limited.

He stressed that what truly helps them is strict training and the support of their comrades. If they can't trust each other and have conflicts, they can't overcome difficulties. He reminded them of the importance of unity, like ropes twisted together, so they can charge forward as one. Lin Luxiao also recalled saving them both when they were young and how they grew up together and became firefighters together, emphasizing they should be the closest of brothers.

Both Yijiu and Shiquan apologized to him and each other. As punishment, Lin Luxiao ordered them to hold hands until dinner, despite their embarrassment, and made them walk around the station together while others watched. Lou Mingye observed Lin Luxiao's interaction with the two younger firefighters. Later, Shiquan apologized to Yijiu. They then reminisced about their early days at the special division unit, remembering their initial simple, naive, and passionate excitement for missions and how the older members supported them.

They reflected on their original reason for becoming firefighters – to help more people – and resolved to uphold that initial intention together. Lin Luxiao and Lou Mingye attended a firefighting exhibition. Lou Mingye commented that he felt others at the station had issues with him and didn't believe he deserved to be the director, feeling that everything he did was wrong, especially compared to Lin Luxiao, whom they saw as their reliable leader.

Lin Luxiao looked at an exhibit detailing the dangers and casualties in forest fires due to difficult terrain. He acknowledged that Lou Mingye had brought significant improvements to the station with new equipment, technology, and training methods, which were beneficial. However, he stressed that their profession wasn't just about technology and skill, but also spirit.

He stated that the core of their team lies in its people, in their unity and trust, forged through comradeship, "holding hands, shoulder to shoulder, life for life." He then told Lou Mingye that he was the one currently leading the team forward. Meanwhile, Lei Dagang saw Fang Xiangqian taking leave and overheard him on the phone, seemingly being pressed for money and asking for a delay in repayment.

Concerned, especially since Fang had borrowed money from him and others, and worried Fang might have been scammed, Lei Dagang gathered Liu Ruyi and others. They speculated on what might have happened, discussing possibilities ranging from various types of fraud to gambling, before concluding that something serious was definitely wrong. They decided to go to Lin Luxiao since Fang had to get his leave approved by the instructor.

They informed Lin Luxiao that Fang had taken leave due to "something at home" but expressed their strong suspicion that he was in serious trouble, citing his borrowing money from them and others outside the station and his inability to speak clearly on the phone. They panicked when they realized Lin Luxiao didn't know the full details either. Unbeknownst to them initially, Fang Xiangqian was at the hospital with his sick mother.

He struggled to get a bed for her due to the shortage, unable to afford the more expensive special or international wards that would be faster, and found himself short of funds for her upcoming surgery. He also received a call from the bank, notifying him that his credit card payment was overdue and demanding the full amount immediately. Overwhelmed by the financial burden and stress, Fang Xiangqian was later found crying alone in a hospital stairwell.

Lin Luxiao and the other firefighters located him and comforted him. The team had mobilized, and arrangements were made for his mother to get a regular ward bed. At the hospital, the firefighters reassured Fang's mother that the ward issue was resolved and that their leaders had applied for subsidies, so she shouldn't worry about medical expenses. Fang apologized to his comrades for keeping his troubles a secret.

Lei Dagang and others lightly but earnestly scolded him for not sharing such a big family issue with them, the team, and for causing them worry. Upon Fang Xiangqian's return to the special division unit after his leave, Lin Luxiao held a meeting. He called out Fang for hiding his family issues, telling him that his apology for lying was not the core problem.

Lin Luxiao reiterated that when Fang joined the station and became a firefighter, his mother gained dozens more sons, and it was wrong for him not to share such a big issue with them. Other firefighters also voiced their opinions, criticizing Fang for his pride and for not treating them truly like brothers, which had caused them considerable worry.

They reiterated that the station would support him with work and that he shouldn't worry about the medical expenses, assuring him that they would help, and that they weren't in a hurry for repayment of the money he owed them. Lin Luxiao then asked if Fang had truly recognized his mistake and, citing their rule of clear rewards and punishments, asked Fang for his phone.

He then proposed in their group chat that everyone voluntarily donate to help Fang with the remaining surgery fees, emphasizing that they were all brothers and should contribute as much as they could. The other firefighters readily agreed, offering support and telling Fang not to feel pressured. Witnessing the display of unity and support among the team during the fundraising, Lou Mingye finally understood the importance of camaraderie and cohesion.

Lin Luxiao spoke with Lou Mingye afterward, acknowledging that Lou Mingye had worked hard for Fang's matter, arranging leave with Captain Meng and coordinating with the hospital. Lin Luxiao observed that Lou Mingye wasn't emotionless but perhaps just shy about expressing his feelings. He encouraged Lou Mingye, telling him that as the director, it was important to let the team know that he cared about them; doing so would strengthen the team's bond and cohesion.

Episode 29 Recap

Director Lou Mingye reported to Captain Meng Guohong, admitting he had not handled the station's work well and had caused conflict among the members. Believing the team did not acknowledge his ability as director and feeling unsuited for the role, he requested a transfer from the Heping Road Special Division Station. Captain Meng was displeased, reminding Lou Mingye that he had actively sought the frontline position and should not be giving up now, advising him to reconsider carefully.

The next day, Director Lou announced at a meeting that problems arose in the station due to his work style, for which he took responsibility. He informed the team that he had submitted a transfer request to Captain Meng and that Instructor Lin and Deputy Yu would temporarily handle station affairs. As a final apology, he bought milk tea for everyone. Instructor Lin interrupted, preventing Director Lou from leaving abruptly.

He updated the team on Fang Xiangqian's situation, confirming hospital matters were resolved, Fang's mother was being admitted that day, and family support allowances were approved, covering future medical expenses. He revealed that it was Director Lou, not himself, who had painstakingly handled the paperwork, contacted Captain Meng and the hospital, and secured maximum benefits for Fang Xiangqian. Instructor Lin emphasized that Director Lou always acted to help but never spoke about his contributions.

He then addressed the team directly, acknowledging the recent issues, opinions, emotions, and conflicts within the station. He asked if they were still a team, to which they collectively responded yes. He pointed out that if the team lost face, everyone lost face, especially since they still had one more chance to qualify for the firefighting competition, yet some were giving up and behaving recklessly.

Instructor Lin questioned if they wanted to reclaim their pride after it had fallen, urging them not to give up. He then prompted Director Lou to speak, but instead, Director Lou simply ordered them to take the milk tea, reiterating the order when they hesitated. Instructor Lin then rallied the team, asking if they wanted and could redeem themselves, before ordering them to the training ground for a full sprint.

Inspired by Lin Luxiao's words, the team regained confidence, and Director Lou and Liu Ruyi reconciled. They then dedicated themselves to training to pass the firefighting assessment. After their collective efforts, the Heping Road Special Division Station passed the assessment and was selected to represent Beixun City in the National Firefighting Competition.

Captain Meng informed them of this news, and later, before the competition, he spoke with his son, Qi Huo, who was part of the competing team, urging him to perform well and not embarrass him. Qi Huo assured his father he would not. Director Lou led the team to the competition while Lin Luxiao stayed at the station. Before they left, Lin Luxiao encouraged them and wished them luck.

The team of ten firefighters, led by Director Lou, achieved second place in the competition. To reward them, Captain Meng proposed giving them a day off. Director Lou and Instructor Lin jointly decided to use the prize money for the station's supply depot, and Director Lou personally funded an extra meal, organizing a camping trip for everyone with their families. Fang Xiangqian returned from leave, reporting that his mother's surgery was successful and the biopsy was benign.

He expressed gratitude to Captain Meng, Director Lou, and Instructor Lin for their help. Captain Meng, interested in the station's "Blue Friends Supply Depot," asked for a tour, and Lin Luxiao arranged for Qi Huo to show him around. During the tour, Captain Meng expressed interest in Qi Huo's experience in the competition. Qi Huo, misunderstanding his father's words as dissatisfaction with their second-place finish, became unhappy.

Wanting to improve their relationship, Captain Meng then clarified, complimenting his son's performance and efforts, stating as a father that he was proud of him. Qi Huo was overjoyed and surprised by his usually strict father's praise. At the camping trip hosted by the Heping Road Special Division Station, Yang Zhengang arrived with his girlfriend, Li Lei, and others immediately started asking about their wedding plans. Nan Chu, having finished filming, arrived later with Milan and Miaomiao.

Xia Wan was unable to attend due to work, which disappointed Liu Ruyi. The family members of the firefighters gathered, sharing frustrations about their partners' busy schedules and inability to help at home. Fang Xiangqian's wife recounted how the team members helped when her mother-in-law was hospitalized, which made her understand the bond between them and the unique nature of their profession.

She realized the team treated each other like family and felt she could better understand her husband's job because of it. Nan Chu spoke privately with Milan, asking if she regretted her divorce. Milan explained that while she understood the difficulties firefighters face and their sacrifice, she was just an ordinary woman who couldn't achieve such greatness. She admitted it was hard to face everything alone.

Milan then asked Nan Chu about her plans for the future, to which Nan Chu replied she didn't know, but she would protect Lin Luxiao no matter what. Milan admired Nan Chu's courage and wished them happiness. During the camping dinner, Nan Chu, Director Lou, and others surprised Lin Luxiao with a birthday cake, as he had even forgotten his own birthday. They all celebrated his birthday together. Afterwards, they took a group photo to remember the occasion.

Six months later, the movie starring Nan Chu premiered. Lin Qi and Jiang Ge attended to support her. Lin Luxiao took leave to celebrate with Nan Chu. At the premiere, a message entrusted by Comrade Li Haoyu before his death was conveyed by a comrade. The movie team, including Nan Chu, then greeted the audience. Later, information was shared with the public about fire safety and avoiding scams involving the sale of firefighting equipment.

Episode 30 Recap

After the movie premiere, Nan Chu went on stage for interviews. She reverently spoke of the martyrs depicted in the film and paid tribute to those brave individuals in real life who sacrifice themselves for protection, calling them the most admirable people of this era. Lin Luxiao arrived late, hoping to congratulate Nan Chu, but she was surrounded by reporters and he didn't find an opportunity.

He then received a call to attend a meeting and had to rush back to the special division unit. Later, Nan Chu finally found time to video call Lin Luxiao, sharing the overwhelming scrutiny that came with her newfound popularity. With the success of her movie, Nan Chu's schedule became packed with appearances, leaving her little time to see Lin Luxiao.

Feeling exhausted, Nan Chu expressed a desire for a break, but her agent, Shen Guangzong (Zong), advised her not to let her relationship jeopardize her booming career. He emphasized the critical importance of her current rising career phase, warning her about the fickle nature of public opinion and cautioning her against being "love-struck." Nan Chu's assistant agreed with Zong.

In the following days, both Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao were busy with work, and meeting became rare and secretive due to the constant presence of paparazzi. Jiang Ge's father's company, Fude Group, held a celebration banquet for its 40th anniversary, and Nan Chu was among the invited guests. While exchanging pleasantries with Jiang Ge upon arrival, Nan Chu encountered Ran Dongyang (Ran), who tried to create a scene for the media.

Understanding his nature, Nan Chu and Jiang Ge quickly excused themselves. Jiang's father, the head of Fude Group, delivered a speech at the banquet, thanking everyone for their support over the past forty years. After fulfilling her professional obligations, Nan Chu joined Lin Qi and Jiang Ge. Lin Qi encouraged Nan Chu to visit his father when she had time, and she readily agreed. Suddenly, an explosion occurred in the banquet restaurant kitchen, triggering a major fire.

Panic erupted, with people scrambling for escape routes, leading to chaotic crowding and even stampedes. The special division unit was notified and quickly dispatched to the Huanyu Building where the banquet was held. Lou Mingye, the director, assigned firefighters to evacuate people and put out the fire. He also urgently called Lin Luxiao, who had just finished his meeting, to come and assist. As frequent explosions occurred, parts of the building began to collapse, trapping many inside.

Nan Chu and Jiang Ge, having received prior fire safety training, actively helped people inside the building. Firefighters entered the burning building, and injuries began to occur among the rescuers as well. Lin Qi became trapped with his leg pinned under debris. Nan Chu, Yan Dai, and Xu Zhiyi worked together to free him. However, the group found themselves unable to exit the banquet hall.

Lin Luxiao managed to call Nan Chu on her phone and learned she was trapped in the fire. He immediately began making his way to their location. Nan Chu's group located a hidden door and used it to leave. Along the way, they encountered trapped cooks. Nan Chu, Lin Qi, and Yan Dai worked together to help the cooks escape. During their escape, however, Xu Zhiyi and Nan Chu were suddenly pinned under a falling wall panel.

At that critical moment, Lin Luxiao arrived with his team. He directed Lin Qi and Yan Dai to safety with the other rescued individuals. After Yu Qilei assessed the structure of the collapsed wall, they decided to rescue Nan Chu first, then Xu Zhiyi. Xu Zhiyi, in distress, misunderstood, accusing Lin Luxiao of prioritizing Nan Chu because she was his girlfriend. With time running out, Lin Luxiao couldn't stop to explain.

They successfully rescued both Nan Chu and Xu Zhiyi and brought them safely downstairs. Nan Chu thanked Lin Luxiao for saving her again, but Lin Luxiao told her that this time, she had saved herself. Lin Luxiao took Nan Chu to the medical area to have her injuries treated. Some of the cooks who had been rescued thanked Nan Chu, but Nan Chu insisted that the firefighters were the ones who saved them.

Episode 31 Recap

Jiang Ge visited his father in the hospital. His father asked about the Huanyu Building fire, and Jiang Ge confirmed that the fire investigation report showed it was an accident, fortunately with no fatalities. He mentioned that injury counts were being tabulated and follow-up investigations would require cooperation. However, the company would need to cover the initial costs for employee and guest compensation, building repairs, and upgrading fire safety equipment.

His father expressed deep worry and anxiety, lamenting that their headquarters, the Huanyu Building, had caught fire, fearing the negative impression it would leave on the outside world and its impact on cooperation, especially after they had promoted firefighting before. He worried how they would recover from this setback, which ruined his plans for the 40th-anniversary celebration. Jiang Ge assured his father he understood the situation and had instructed the company's public relations department to draft a statement.

He explained that although it was an accident, he feared malicious rumors and believed issuing a statement first would help guide public opinion based on his past experience. His father approved of the plan. Before leaving, his father checked if Jiang Ge was injured and thanked him for his efforts. Jiang Ge reassured him he was fine and would handle everything. Later, Jiang Ge met with Lin Qi.

Jiang Ge said his injury was minor and asked about Lin Qi's father. He admitted the fire had impacted the company, with some orders and partnerships terminating despite their efforts in public opinion control. Combined with his father's illness, handling everything was tiring, so he asked Lin Qi to focus on the platform. Lin Qi assured him he was fully committed to the platform, which was also partly his.

Jiang Ge expressed gratitude, admitting that after this experience, he realized how difficult it was for his father to manage the group and how he hadn't understood him, despite always blaming his father for not understanding him. He acknowledged that his father had indulged him and paid the price for his actions since he returned.

Lin Qi agreed they were similar, mentioning he wouldn't have had the courage to pursue music without his brother's support, which led him to Milan and meeting Jiang Ge. Jiang Ge reflected that both Lin Qi and Nan Chu had taught him a lot, and their current platform was inspired by them. Lin Qi then asked Jiang Ge what he truly wanted to do after being back for so long and doing so many things.

Jiang Ge confessed he still didn't know. At the hospital, Nan Chu and Xi Gu discussed online comments, with many people "shipping" Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao as a "fire-romance couple." Nan Chu asked Xi Gu to contact the photographer to see if there were other photos, as she realized she didn't have a single proper photo with Lin Luxiao despite knowing him for so long.

Xi Gu revealed that Shen Guangzong was already contacting the photographer but was buying the photos to delete them. Xi Gu explained that Shen Guangzong was worried that the photo, showing Lin Luxiao looking concerned and Nan Chu looking blissful, would lead to speculation about their relationship, calling it a serious matter. Xi Gu suggested that since keeping a low profile hadn't worked, perhaps they should just take this opportunity to go public.

Nan Chu acknowledged Xi Gu's desire for her to go public but felt it wasn't necessary. Lin Luxiao took half a day off to visit Nan Chu at the hospital, bringing her homemade soup. Shen Guangzong briefly tried to divert him, mentioning Mr. Han, but Lin Luxiao went straight to Nan Chu's room. He checked on her, asking if she was scared.

Nan Chu praised his soup, and Lin Luxiao claimed he was very good at it, mentioning his father, Lin Qi, and "this girl" (Nan Chu) had tasted it. Nan Chu asked how her performance in the fire was, and Lin Luxiao called it "excellent." As a reward, she asked him to take her out. Lin Luxiao agreed. They left the hospital, with Nan Chu expressing slight worry about Xia Wan finding out. Lin Luxiao reassured her.

As they discussed where to go, Nan Chu had many ideas, calling it a rare date. Lin Luxiao suggested buying her clothes first. She tried on a dress, and he bought it for her, saying he wouldn't buy anything for himself as it was her day off. Nan Chu was happy. Later, Xia Wan called Lin Luxiao, stating it was almost time for rounds and Nan Chu needed to be brought back.

She mentioned she had seen them "eating and shopping" online and that it was being "live streamed," revealing they had been secretly photographed and their activities posted online. Nan Chu pleaded to stay out longer, but Lin Luxiao insisted they return, promising to spend his future holidays with her doing nothing else. Nan Chu agreed, acknowledging his promise as a "military order."

News of Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao's relationship spread rapidly online, fueled by the leaked photos and comments excitedly calling them a "fire-romance couple." At the fire station, even the firefighters became famous, earning the nickname "Firefighting Boys" and gaining fans.

Meanwhile, Shen Guangzong reported to Han Beiyao, detailing numerous business offers for Nan Chu, including an endorsement from MG Diamonds, an exclusive interview about her relationship with Lin Luxiao for a fashion magazine, and a role in a firefighting drama from Jade Gold Film Company. Han Beiyao instructed Shen Guangzong to reject all commercial activities and interviews for Nan Chu, firmly asserting his disapproval.

At the hospital, reporters swarmed outside Nan Chu's room, calling her name, demanding to know if the photo was real, if they were dating, and if the company had concealed it. Xia Wan intervened, asking the reporters to leave to allow the patient to rest, maintaining hospital order, offering to arrange interviews through the company, and threatening to call the police. Shen Guangzong questioned if Han Beiyao was not optimistic about Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao's relationship.

Han Beiyao clarified that he thought they were a good match but feared public opinion would ruin them. He explained that firefighting was a special profession, and firefighters were not part of the entertainment industry, making them targets for people with ulterior motives who might exploit their relationship for hype. He stated that while many in the company wanted to leverage the situation for popularity, he did not and wanted to protect them.

Shen Guangzong understood and agreed to speak with Nan Chu. Xia Wan spoke to Lin Luxiao, explaining that the increasing number of reporters at the hospital was affecting their work and that Nan Chu continuing to stay there was not beneficial for either of them. Lin Luxiao understood and thanked her. They discharged Nan Chu, making sure they weren't followed. Nan Chu asked what her company said about the situation.

Lin Luxiao said nothing specific but noted the online news was a mess. He expressed worry about hindering her career, which was just starting, mentioning the saying "people are afraid of being famous." Nan Chu insisted she wasn't afraid, hadn't sought hype, and it hadn't affected her work. She asked if it affected his station's work, and he confirmed they operated normally. She stated that their relationship was their private life and she didn't want people criticizing it.

Lin Luxiao agreed in principle but explained that with her fame, some fans might not want her to have a private life and would want her to be the person they imagined, which could be troublesome and potentially hurt her. Nan Chu reassured him that she would protect herself in the workplace, just as he protected her in the fire.

On the way home, Lin Luxiao received a call from Lin Qi, who was at Lin Luxiao's house with their father. Lin Qi informed him that their father was cooking and wanted Lin Luxiao to bring Nan Chu home for dinner immediately, insisting it was non-negotiable. Nan Chu found it sudden but agreed to go, mentioning the idea of the "ugly wife meeting her parents-in-law." Lin Luxiao reassured her that his father was easy to talk to.

At the house, they were welcomed by Lin Qi and his father. Nan Chu gave their father a gift. At the dinner table, Lin Luxiao's father asked Nan Chu about herself. She explained her special connection to firefighters, stemming from Lin Luxiao saving her from a fire when she was seventeen, for which she was always grateful.

Lin Qi corroborated the story, adding that there was a mix-up because Lin Luxiao wore someone else's gear during the rescue, causing Nan Chu to almost thank the wrong person, calling it fate that they met again. Nan Chu agreed it was fated. Nan Chu shared that she was an actress but dreamed of being a dancer, having opened a dance studio with friends, and invited him to see a performance.

She also mentioned her mother was in the US and her father had passed away early. When their father continued asking questions, Lin Qi and Lin Luxiao urged him to let Nan Chu eat, noting she was nervous. After dinner, their father spoke with Nan Chu privately. He frankly stated that he did not look favorably upon her relationship with Lin Luxiao. Nan Chu asked if it was because of her profession.

He clarified it was because of Lin Luxiao's job as a firefighter, stating his life was not solely his own. Nan Chu affirmed she knew this and was prepared. Their father commented that while things were easy during their current "lovey-dovey period," they would face many more difficulties in the future, trusting that she, being a smart girl, understood his meaning.

Meanwhile, Xu Zhiyi, whose work had been paused due to her injury, saw the news about Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao. After a conversation where Ran Dongyang made comments about Nan Chu, Xu Zhiyi decided to cooperate with him. Xu Zhiyi later posted a video online, introducing herself as a witness to the Huanyu Building fire and describing the fire as terrifying but expressing her luck in surviving.

She then publicly questioned whether firefighters saved people based on relationships, implying her rescue was delayed, sparking significant public outcry. Xi Gu called Nan Chu, telling her about Xu Zhiyi's video and calling her crazy for potentially harming their own company's artists. Nan Chu was at Lin Luxiao's house. Xi Gu instructed her not to move and to wait for her and Han Beiyao to handle the situation.

Seeing Nan Chu upset by the online backlash from Xu Zhiyi's video, Lin Luxiao comforted her, telling her not to look at the negative comments. He assured her that the rescue procedure that day was completely professional and without any issues, asking her to trust him and let them handle the matter. Nan Chu agreed. Back home, Lin Qi confronted his father, asking why he had spoken to Nan Chu that way and stating his belief that they were suitable.

His father insisted they were not. Lin Qi questioned if it was solely because his brother was a firefighter, arguing that this was very unfair to Lin Luxiao. His father dismissed his understanding. Lin Qi insisted that his father should stop interfering, revealing that the reason he himself had refused to become a firefighter despite his father's wishes was that he had his own aspirations, and the same applied to Lin Luxiao, who wasn't "born to be a firefighter."

Lin Qi passionately argued that his father did not know how hard things had been for Lin Luxiao, how strict he had been, and how he was never satisfied despite Lin Luxiao always meeting his expectations. He asked what else his brother had to do for their father to be satisfied. His father stated he would only be satisfied if Lin Luxiao lived a good life, acknowledging his past success but emphasizing the uncertainty of the future.

Lin Qi felt his father had changed since their mother passed away, taking over everything in their lives. When his father asked if he felt he had done something wrong, Lin Qi clarified that he and Lin Luxiao knew their father cared despite being busy and not always showing it kindly. He added that they were grown up, their father had fulfilled his promise to his mother, and he should trust them to take care of themselves.

Lin Qi firmly believed Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu would be happy. His father reiterated he was not against them but knew a firefighter and an actress would face many difficulties together. Lin Qi asked why he was so certain, but his father simply said he knew. Lin Qi argued that precisely because their path would be difficult, they needed their family's support even more. He invoked the memory of their mother, saying she would support Lin Luxiao.

He reminded his father of their childhood family meetings with voting rules and playfully claimed that with his mother's proxy vote, it was two votes to one in favor of supporting his brother. Lin Luxiao reported to Meng Guohong, providing details of the Huanyu fire rescue. Meng Guohong was aware of the online situation, acknowledging the chaos of self-media. He suggested holding a press conference with media to clarify the situation. Lin Luxiao offered to explain it himself.

Meng Guohong told him that if there was a press conference, he wouldn't need to attend, stating he would handle the matter himself, as he felt the controversy was aimed at Lin Luxiao and he didn't want others implicated. Meng Guohong reassured him, stating that just as Lin Luxiao protected people in the fire, they would protect him now.

At the press conference later, Captain Meng Guohong, accompanied by representatives including Director Lou Mingye from the Heping Road Special Division Station, addressed the media. He stated that personal relationship issues were not for discussion and they would only cover the rescue itself. When asked about Lin Luxiao's absence, Meng Guohong explained that reports and speculation had caused mental and physical harm to Lin Luxiao and those around him, so he was given leave for protection.

He refused to confirm if "those around him" referred to Nan Chu, citing the boundary on personal matters. Director Lou Mingye then began explaining the specifics of the Huanyu Building fire and offered fire safety tips.

Episode 32 Recap

Officials, including Meng Guohong and Lou Mingye, held a press conference regarding the recent fire rescue. Lou Mingye provided details about the on-site command decisions. Yu Qilei, the Deputy Director of Heping Road Special Division Station and a structural engineer, explained his decision to prioritize Nan Chu's rescue, stating it was based on structural stability assessments and would ensure the safety of both Nan Chu and Xu Zhiyi.

Yu Qilei affirmed his close relationship with Lin Luxiao, stating that Lin Luxiao had persuaded him to join the firefighting team years ago, and denied that Lin Luxiao had influenced his professional judgment during the rescue. During the press conference, Ran Dongyang unexpectedly appeared. Identifying himself as a witness to the fire, he publicly supported Xu Zhiyi and claimed that he and Xu Zhiyi saw Nan Chu on the phone with Lin Luxiao throughout the incident.

He stated they were willing to confront Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao directly about this. A reporter attempted to ask about Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao's relationship history, but Meng Guohong intervened, reiterating that personal relationships were not part of the conference discussion. As a new emergency call came in about an electric moped fire, Lin Luxiao and other firefighters had to leave immediately, which Ran Dongyang seized upon to suggest Lin Luxiao was avoiding the media due to guilt.

Jiang Ge watched the press conference coverage and was concerned about the public narrative. He instructed Huang Huai to use Zhige Entertainment's media connections to help Nan Chu's public image and also reach out to Han Beiyao, who was likely also working on public relations for Nan Chu. Lin Luxiao led a team to the community reporting the moped fire, which residents had already extinguished.

Firefighters checked the area for safety hazards, identifying issues with 'jump wires' and illegal indoor battery charging. Lin Luxiao spoke to a resident about the dangers of charging batteries indoors. The resident, however, recognized Lin Luxiao from online discussions and accused him of prioritizing his girlfriend over others during the earlier fire.

A local elderly resident who knew Lin Luxiao intervened, scolding the resident for making baseless accusations about a firefighter's professional ethics and for his own lack of fire safety knowledge, helping to resolve the situation. As the fire truck returned to the station, the crew noticed a vehicle had been following them since they left the community, suspecting paparazzi. Meanwhile, Nan Chu was also dealing with constant paparazzi attention, some having even located her at Lin Luxiao's place.

Shen Guangzong contacted Nan Chu, warning her about the risk to Lin Luxiao's career if photos confirming their relationship were published. He suggested buying the photos to prevent their spread. Nan Chu felt it was unfair that she had to hide and considered staying put, but Shen Guangzong emphasized the impact on Lin Luxiao's work as a firefighter. Lin Luxiao arrived back at his residence only to find paparazzi waiting.

To avoid escalating the situation, he returned to the special division unit. Nan Chu realized hiding wasn't a long-term solution and decided to have Shen Guangzong pick her up. The media attention on Nan Chu also led to reports that she was the daughter of international actress Nan Yueru. At the station, Yu Qilei checked on Lin Luxiao, who was visibly affected by the situation.

Yu Qilei advised him not to let online comments bother him, but Lin Luxiao was more concerned about the impact on the station and his fellow firefighters. Yu Qilei acknowledged the unique challenges they faced as a firefighter and a celebrity, noting that Nan Chu's life under the spotlight magnified everything around her, leaving little room for privacy.

He told Lin Luxiao that overcoming these obstacles would require them to be strong, adding that people who aren't afraid of fire shouldn't be afraid of 'starlight'. An emergency rescue call came in for a building collapse caused by illegal construction. At the scene, Zhongnan Fire Station Director Xiao Qiang informed Lou Mingye and Lei Dagang that the building had illegally added two stories to an original two-story structure and used substandard materials, leading to the collapse.

The building owner, identified as Chen Yilong, was unreachable. Teams from multiple stations were assigned rescue areas. Yu Qilei and Lei Dagang were assigned to assess load-bearing structures and establish a safe passage in Zone A. They searched the collapsed area and found a trapped person. Yu Qilei and Lei Dagang worked to reach the trapped individual, navigating the unstable debris. They discovered the trapped person was Chen Yilong.

Yu Qilei assessed the scene and determined that due to the precarious structural connections, they would have to carefully remove surrounding debris. Yu Qilei climbed to a different vantage point to observe the structure, but the building shifted again, causing another partial collapse and burying him. Lei Dagang lost contact with him. Yu Qilei then called out for others not to move recklessly, despite being impaled by rebar.

He explained that the slab on top of his head was structurally linked to the slab pressing on Chen Yilong, forming a triangular support. If he were to pull himself out, the structure above both of them would likely collapse, trapping them further.

Yu Qilei, concealing the severity of his own injury, instructed Lei Dagang and Lou Mingye to prioritize rescuing Chen Yilong by carefully pulling him out from a specific angle within a tight timeframe, while he himself would manage the supporting structure. Following Yu Qilei's precise instructions, Lei Dagang and Lou Mingye successfully pulled Chen Yilong to safety. However, Yu Qilei remained trapped and fully buried. Lin Luxiao arrived at the hospital later and was informed that Yu Qilei had died.

Lei Dagang was distraught and blamed himself, realizing in retrospect that Yu Qilei had understood the situation meant only one of them might survive. Lin Luxiao was devastated, weeping over Yu Qilei's body, blaming himself for not protecting him, and promising to take care of Yu Qilei's family. The difficult task of informing Yu Qilei's family awaited.

Episode 33 Recap

Lin Luxiao contacted Milan to inform her that Yu Qilei had sacrificed his life. Upon hearing the news, Milan was overcome with grief as she faced her young daughter, Miaomiao, who did not understand what had happened. Meanwhile, Liu Ruyi discovered Yu Qilei's farewell letter that had been accidentally washed in the laundry.

In the letter, Yu Qilei expressed deep regret for constantly letting Milan and Miaomiao down by not spending enough time with them and for repeatedly postponing his promise to return to work. He affirmed his love for his current job but stated that he had decided, after completing this mission, he would talk to his superior and return home permanently to be with his family.

After reading Yu Qilei's letter, Liu Ruyi then emotionally questioned who he would give his own farewell letter to now that Yu was gone, saying he missed him and still had a pen he wanted to give him. The teammates at the special division unit were deeply saddened by the loss of their comrade, Yu Qilei, and fondly remembered him. Lin Luxiao recalled playing a wooden block game with Yu countless times but never winning.

Lou Mingye found Lin Luxiao, who was focused on the wooden blocks. Lin Luxiao explained that Yu had sacrificed himself to save Chen Yilong, stating that if Yu had chosen to save himself, Chen Yilong would surely have died, but saving Chen Yilong left Yu with only one option.

Lin Luxiao believed Yu knew he had to sacrifice himself in that moment, emphasizing that Yu had never made a mistake in demolishing work over the years, always focusing on saving lives. As they spoke, Yu Qilei's parents, along with Milan and Miaomiao, arrived at the special division unit. Facing Miaomiao's innocent questions about what happened to her dad and what "sacrifice" means, Lin Luxiao struggled to explain that her beloved father was gone.

Milan packed Yu Qilei's few belongings and then requested that Lin Luxiao take her to see the place where Yu Qilei had sacrificed his life. Upon learning of Yu Qilei's sacrifice, Nan Chu insisted on going to pay her respects, not only because he was Lin Luxiao's best friend but also because he had been her coach.

Shen Guangzong advised Nan Chu against going, informing her that media attention was focused on her whereabouts and that reporters were already gathering, knowing Yu Qilei was Lin Luxiao's colleague. However, Nan Chu was resolute, stating that Yu Qilei was her friend too and she had to go, pushing past Shen Guangzong despite his attempts to calm her. Nan Chu then called Lin Luxiao and, learning he was taking Milan to the accident site, stated she would join them there.

Lin Luxiao accompanied Milan, Miaomiao, and Yu Qilei's parents to the accident site. They were joined by many firefighters and numerous people who had been rescued in the past, all gathered to commemorate Yu Qilei by lighting candles and placing flowers. Milan suggested that Miaomiao read the essay she had written about her father. Miaomiao read her heartfelt words, describing her firefighter dad who worked far away and rarely came home, sometimes missing holidays like Children's Day.

She recounted his forgotten promise of a princess dress and how she used to be angry about his broken promises, but wasn't anymore, as long as he could just come back. She read that even though he was a hero, he wasn't just her hero. During the memorial, flashbacks showed Yu Qilei's past interactions, including one where he invited an engineer who had offered assistance at a dangerous scene to consider becoming his comrade.

When Nan Chu and Jiang Ge arrived, they immediately attracted the attention of the media, with cameras flashing. People attempted to block the reporters. Lin Luxiao told Jiang Ge to take Nan Chu away, explaining that the media would not leave otherwise. Nan Chu apologized to Lin Luxiao, saying she just wanted to visit, and Lin Luxiao told her he understood.

Lou Mingye then suggested everyone return to the station, as it was getting late and they needed to prepare for Yu's funeral arrangements the following day. After leaving the memorial site, Lou Mingye made arrangements for Milan and Yu's family to rest at the dorms. Lin Luxiao was unexpectedly informed that Lei Dagang had assaulted Chen Yilong. He immediately went to investigate.

Lei Dagang and Chen Yilong ended up at the police station due to the altercation, with Chen Yilong going to the hospital for a check-up. Lin Luxiao spoke with Lei Dagang privately in a small meeting room. Dagang expressed his inability to cope with the thought that Yu Qilei had died in vain.

He was particularly enraged when he heard Chen Yilong make callous remarks about Yu's death at the hospital, which, fueled by alcohol, led him to physically assault Chen Yilong. Lin Luxiao urged Dagang not to blame himself for Yu's sacrifice, emphasizing that it was not his fault and that the law would deal with Chen Yilong, advising Dagang against taking matters into his own hands.

Lei Dagang acknowledged that his actions would likely result in a criminal record but pleaded with Lin Luxiao to intercede with the brigade, stating that he did not want to leave the special division unit. Lin Luxiao promised to try and find a solution. Lin Luxiao then spoke with Sun Mingyang about how such cases are typically resolved, learning it depends on the victim's injuries and willingness to accept compensation; otherwise, detention is possible.

Lin Luxiao requested more time to try and resolve the situation. Lin Luxiao, Lou Mingye, and Liu Ruyi went to the hospital to speak with Chen Yilong, hoping he would agree to a settlement for Dagang. They reminded Chen Yilong that he and Dagang were childhood friends who had supported each other and offered financial compensation. Chen Yilong dismissed the offer of compensation, claiming they owed each other nothing.

He then callously questioned what Yu's death had to do with him, insisting he didn't want the building to collapse either. He stated that the matter would not be easily resolved and became aggressive, challenging Lin Luxiao to hit him and threatening extortion if he didn't. Finally, Chen Yilong revealed that he didn't care about money but needed help with his collapsed house issue, assuming Lin Luxiao could leverage his connections.

He even suggested offering money to Yu Qilei's wife and daughter. Lin Luxiao stated that they could not discuss anything further with Chen Yilong's attitude. Just then, police officers arrived to take Chen Yilong away for questioning in connection with the major accident liability case. Chen Yilong called out to Lin Luxiao for help, claiming that if he couldn't resolve his own issues, Dagang would also face consequences.

Liu Ruyi expressed surprise that Chen Yilong was being taken away by the police, wondering if he had agreed to a settlement. Later, Lin Luxiao seemed dejected, feeling he couldn't help Lei Dagang. Nan Chu called and apologized for the commotion the media caused at the memorial. Lin Luxiao reassured her not to blame herself, saying it wasn't her fault and she had good intentions.

Nan Chu expressed her regret at not being able to be physically present to comfort him due to reporters surrounding her and her company's restrictions on leaving. She offered to talk on the phone if he was feeling sad. Lin Luxiao told her he was fine and at the station, urging her not to worry and to take good care of herself. Nan Chu reciprocated the sentiment before they said goodnight.

Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan were visibly angered by online content, particularly posts by Ran Dongyang, which they felt were using Yu Qilei's sacrifice to gain popularity and disrespecting firefighters. They complained about the content, noting that it didn't mention specifics, preventing them from reporting it, and lamented that people like Ran Dongyang, whom they had saved from a fire in a food factory, were exploiting the tragedy.

Lou Mingye and Lin Luxiao arrived and dismissed the online noise, telling the team to focus on their work and training and to stop looking at such online content. Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan voiced their concern about Lei Dagang's situation, asking if he would be able to return. Lou Mingye instructed them to go to training.

Qi Huo was then asked if he could help with Lei Dagang's situation, perhaps by asking his father, but Qi Huo confirmed that he had already sought help regarding Dagang's matter, but nothing could be done. The scene concluded with a public service announcement about fire safety tips for electric bikes, emphasizing precautions such as not charging them inside buildings, keeping them away from flammable materials, avoiding modifications, and conducting self-inspections to prevent accidents.

Episode 34 Recap

Han Beiyao instructed Shen Guangzong to draft a termination agreement for Xu Zhiyi. He specified that she would not receive any compensation and they would not pursue her for other responsibilities related to brand endorsements, but demanded that she stop the excessive self-promotion, threatening legal action otherwise. Han Beiyao stated he was unwilling to invest further in an artist lacking artistic ethics, emphasizing that artists must first be decent people with morals.

He also instructed Shen Guangzong to contact all their friends and partners to lead a blacklisting campaign against Ran Dongyang, vowing to make "this clown" disappear from the entertainment industry at any cost. He also told Shen Guangzong to take good care of Nan Chu after handling these matters. Nan Chu’s friends brought her food from a popular store, trying to cheer her up.

Seeing her distress about the online comments, they told her not to mind those people who "take advantage of others' misfortunes." Nan Chu expressed self-blame, wondering if she had truly harmed the Heping Road Special Division Station. Her friends tried to reassure her. Lin Luxiao and Lou Mingye arrived at the brigade headquarters. Meng Guohong informed them that the online discourse was severe, causing netizens to question the station's professionalism, and that the superiors were highly concerned.

He instructed Lin Luxiao to carefully consider everything, from the reality show recording to his relationship with Nan Chu and Yu Qilei's sacrifice, before reporting to the leadership. Yang Zhengang, the former instructor, arrived, expressing frustration. He insisted that the station's work and capabilities were top-notch and questioned why they were being slandered. He fiercely defended Yu Qilei, stating he sacrificed himself to save others and did not make mistakes.

Yang Zhengang was angry that while they were asked to explain every minor issue, there was no one reporting on Yu's sacrifice or supporting Lei Dagang after his incident, despite Dagang's actions having a reason. He challenged whether Dagang could be protected. Lin Luxiao and Lou Mingye tried to calm Yang Zhengang and usher him away. Meng Guohong stated he would speak with the leaders himself.

Nan Chu's mother, Nan Yueru, came to visit her, having learned about Nan Chu's relationship and the resulting online controversy. She suggested Nan Chu pack her bags to go abroad with her temporarily, stating the company's Mr. Han would handle the domestic matters. Nan Chu accused her mother of always making decisions for her and only offering negativity, sarcasm, and blows. She told her mother she viewed her as a failure.

Nan Yueru admitted to being a failure and said that was precisely why she didn't want Nan Chu to follow her path. Nan Yueru then revealed that Nan Chu's father, Li Xuejun, was not a worker who died in a car crash, as she had told Nan Chu, but a firefighter who died in a forest fire the year Nan Chu was born.

She recounted the immense difficulty she faced as a grieving widow with a child, trying to pursue her career while hiding the truth, explaining it was an experience she never wanted to revisit. Hearing this history, Nan Chu was deeply affected and very sad. Amidst the online debate, Nan Chu recorded and posted a video statement.

She addressed the speculation, stating she didn't care about personal comments but felt she owed it to the Heping Road Special Division Station to speak up. She described the firefighters she knew as brave, fearless, and selfless heroes who go to dangerous places, bringing hope to the desperate. She highlighted that while they seem all-powerful, they are sometimes helpless when their own families need them, forced to prioritize saving others.

She mentioned they have families who support them, face everyday worries, and might complain or feel helpless, but the sound of the alarm always calls them to action without hesitation. She concluded that they are the bravest and most admirable and deserve the deepest respect and reverence. After returning from a mission, Lin Luxiao saw Nan Chu's video online and called her. When she told him she was at the Dream Dance Club, he went there to find her.

Upon meeting, Lin Luxiao apologized for failing to protect her. Nan Chu felt it was her fault, believing her identity as an actress had burdened the special division unit. Reflecting on her time leading the Dream Dance Club, Nan Chu admitted she thought she succeeded through sheer will, but now realized people like Han Beiyao and Shen Guangzong had been helping her behind the scenes without her knowing.

Lin Luxiao confirmed his dream of becoming the best firefighter had never changed. Nan Chu stated her dream of becoming a dancer also remained unchanged. They discussed what it means to be "the best," with Nan Chu suggesting it means always being better than one's previous self. Lin Luxiao expressed that he felt he had taught her all he could and encouraged her to explore a wider world.

Both wondered what the other would be like the next time they met, agreeing they would both be better versions of themselves. They shared a hug, choosing to part ways temporarily. Nan Yueru met with Han Beiyao to thank him for taking care of Nan Chu. They reminisced about their shared past, particularly when Nan Yueru was in the US and Han helped her find work. Nan Yueru brought up her favorite movie, "Notting Hill," noting it was about courage.

She admitted she lacked courage in the past and that her painful experiences left her unable to move on, making her determined to prevent Nan Chu from suffering similarly. Han Beiyao disagreed, believing Nan Chu possessed more courage than either of them. Lin Luxiao and Lou Mingye went to the police station to pick up Lei Dagang. They brought him back to the special division station where his colleagues were waiting.

As Lei Dagang packed his belongings, his teammates gathered, expressing their difficulty in seeing him go. He was visibly emotional, openly admitting he deserved the consequences. The team tried to comfort him, telling him he had worked hard and could finally rest, assuring him the station would always be his home even if he wasn't working there.

Fang Xiangqian offered to organize a gathering soon and treat everyone, while others encouraged him to visit anytime and spoke of finishing their unfinished games. Yang Zhengang apologized for not being able to help him more. Before Lei Dagang left, Lin Luxiao removed a badge from his uniform and gave it to him. As he received it, Lei Dagang declared, "Present!" As Lei Dagang walked away, the entire team stood in salute.

Episode 35 Recap

Lin Luxiao requested a transfer to the Lushan Forest Fire Brigade, explaining to Meng Guohong that he wanted to experience frontline forest firefighting, which he felt was still a theoretical concept for him. He needed to go to the front line to feel and experience it, as well as improve himself, stating that Lushan was the farthest and most difficult location.

Lin Luxiao also admitted that his decision to go to Lushan was partly related to Nan Chu, feeling that the current situation, whether for the station or for Nan Chu, required him to temporarily leave for a while. Meng Guohong acknowledged Lin Luxiao's foresight and inability to refuse his request but reminded him that the final approval rested with higher authorities.

As a comrade, Meng Guohong advised Lin Luxiao that wherever he goes, as long as he remembers why he chose this path, he will never lose his way. Lin Luxiao was concerned about his father's reaction to the transfer, but Meng Guohong offered to speak to him.

Meng Guohong told Lin Luxiao's father that Luxiao wanted to go to Lushan for forest firefighting, acknowledging that it was different from urban firefighting and would require starting from scratch, but affirmed that Luxiao had thought it through. Lin Luxiao's father agreed to support his son's decision, mentioning that his younger son (Lin Qi) had accused him of not supporting his elder brother, prompting him to show his support this time.

Meng Guohong shared his own change in approach to parenting, now actively encouraging and praising his son. Nan Chu met with Lin Qi and Jiang Ge. Nan Chu mentioned she would be going to the US and might stay for a while. When Jiang Ge asked about her situation with Lin Luxiao, speculating they might have broken up due to the long distance, Nan Chu simply stated they had thought things through.

Jiang Ge remained concerned about the potential separation and the challenges of a long-distance relationship, citing online opinions, and lamenting that they would not meet or contact each other. However, Lin Qi countered that love could transcend time and space, comparing it to a rest symbol in music which signifies waiting, not ending.

He believed that since his brother and Nan Chu had firmly chosen each other, their love would remain in their hearts even when apart and without constant communication. Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan were saddened by Lin Luxiao's impending departure. Shao Yijiu even reached out to Nan Chu, asking for her help to persuade him to stay.

Liu Ruyi felt a deep sense of loss seeing people leave the station, describing it like losing his home after being rescued from an earthquake. He shared his feelings with Xia Wan during a meal, lamenting that Lei Dagang had left, Yu Qilei had sacrificed, and only a few firefighters from his original batch remained.

Xia Wan comforted him by sharing her experience as an ER doctor facing life and death situations, which taught her about the limitations of human power in the face of separation and reunion. As they walked back, Xia Wan told Liu Ruyi that she also quite liked him after spending time together and invited him to exercise together sometime, which surprised him.

Before his departure, Lin Luxiao gathered everyone at the training ground for a formal farewell, timing it with the 30th anniversary of the Special Division Station's establishment. He called it both a farewell and a new beginning. He reminded them that the station was a resilient, reputable team with its own spirit that had seen many leaders and members come and go.

He emphasized that it wasn't any individual who changed the station, but rather the station that changed each of them. He told them not to think the station was failing because someone left or sacrificed their life, asserting that this veteran warrior had endured worse and would always stand strong. He declared that those who came from the Special Division Station would forever have its spirit flowing within them and would always be unbreakable.

He concluded by asking them to join him for one last run on the familiar track. Lou Mingye joined Lin Luxiao for a farewell meal. Lou Mingye understood that Lin Luxiao's transfer to Lushan was partly influenced by his relationship with Nan Chu and felt it was a brave decision for both of them, much like their commitment to firefighting relied on faith and courage.

Lou Mingye expressed his belief in Lin Luxiao's abilities and admitted he had learned a lot from him, considering him the best firefighter. Lin Luxiao stated that he felt completely at ease leaving the Heping Road Station with Lou Mingye in charge. They toasted to success, safety, and their bond as brothers, promising to work hard and make their mark in Lushan. Han Beiyao visited Nan Chu, bringing postcards made by his company.

He expressed his regret for not being able to protect her properly, as he had promised her mother. He acknowledged Nan Chu's courage, citing instances like her insistence on posting the video to protect Lin Luxiao and her decision to attend Yu Qilei's memorial despite potential paparazzi attention. He told her she was braver than he or her mother had imagined and encouraged her to continue being herself bravely.

He informed her that Ran Dongyang and Xu Zhiyi had been administratively detained for fabricating facts and disrupting public order and would face legal consequences. He promised to help arrange performances for the Dream Dance Club and kept her contract, anticipating future collaboration.

Lin Luxiao returned home and gave Lin Qi money he had saved for his startup, asking him to use it if needed and to take good care of their father while he was gone for a long time. His father then gave Lin Luxiao a diary written by Li Xuejun, his first recruit when he was a squad leader, who was later transferred to the forest fire brigade stationed in Lushan.

His father recounted how Li Xuejun's unit was caught in a forest fire, with only one survivor, and how Li Xuejun saved three people before perishing himself. He suggested the diary might help Lin Luxiao's work and potentially offer answers to the problems he and Nan Chu were facing. At the airport, Xi Gu saw Nan Chu off.

Nan Chu gave Xi Gu money she had saved for the Dream Dance Club and asked her to look after it, promising to return. After saying their goodbyes, Nan Chu texted Lin Luxiao before boarding her flight, writing that she was leaving and hoped they would become better versions of themselves the next time they met. Lin Luxiao replied that they would, promising it.

Back at the station, after returning from a call, Liu Ruyi and some other firefighters realized Lin Luxiao had left. They gathered to record a video message for him, affectionately recalling his strictness while expressing their well wishes. After Lin Luxiao's departure, his father talked to Lin Qi. He admitted that Lin Qi's previous criticism had led him to reflect and realize he had been too strict with both brothers.

He asked Lin Qi's opinion on his brother's situation with Nan Chu and then inquired about Lin Qi's music platform startup. Lin Qi reported that it was getting on track with over 50,000 fans and that he genuinely loved making music. His father encouraged him to pursue his passion boldly.

Episode 36 Recap

A flashback shows a conversation in 1993 where Li Xuejun apologizes to Nan Yueru because their relationship has been discovered by his organization and is against the rules. He tells her he knew this day might come since they first got together and blames himself for not being able to protect her or give her happiness as a soldier.

He tells her he has been reading a book that says the toughest path is the best path because he holds onto the hope of meeting her again. Li Xuejun asks Nan Yueru to wait for him until he becomes more outstanding and a better firefighter, capable of giving her the best future. Nan Yueru asks if this is his promise, and he confirms it is.

They make a pact to stop seeing each other for now and only meet again when they become better people. Li Xuejun again asks her to wait for him. After Nan Chu moves out, Xi Gu finishes moving her things. Shen Guangzong sees how much she has.

When Xi Gu mentions she plans to temporarily stay at the Dream Dance Club, Shen Guangzong immediately dismisses the idea, stating it's not safe for a girl alone at night and there's nowhere to put her things during the day's rehearsals. He offers her the empty bedroom at his place, arguing it would be convenient for work communication and they could help each other in life. Despite Xi Gu's initial uncertainty, Shen Guangzong declares it settled.

Lin Qi suggests they hold an online concert on the platform, thinking it could attract many new users. Jiang Ge agrees and tells him to go ahead with it, but then says Lin Qi will need to handle the planning department himself from now on. Lin Qi is confused, and Jiang Ge explains he wants to give Lin Qi the platform as a gift, making Lin Qi the person in charge.

Jiang Ge reveals he's been rewatching "Flaming Youth" and feels deeply excited each time, a feeling he only experienced previously with extreme sports. He believes this is his true passion and he has found his life direction. He tells Lin Qi he wants to become a firefighter, stating that Deputy Director Yu's sacrifice and Nan Chu going to America have solidified his decision.

He believes people should pursue their passions for their careers to find life value, encouraging Lin Qi to do the same with art. Lin Qi accepts. Jiang Ge gives Lin Qi a necklace, and Lin Qi gives Jiang Ge a song he wrote, wishing him peace and safety. Jiang Ge goes to his father's office late at night and waits for him to finish work.

He asks his father why he built Fude Group, and his father replies it was simply to ensure their family had a good life and he could enjoy his later years. Jiang Ge points out this has already been achieved and questions why his father still works so hard. His father says it's hard to maintain an empire and many people in the company rely on it, plus Jiang Ge always worried him.

Jiang Ge tells him he was right about him lacking direction before, but now he has found it, partly thanks to his father allowing the "Flaming Youth" program. Jiang Ge reveals he has applied to be a firefighter.

He explains that he used to want to prove himself to his father but realized the only person he needs to face is himself, and the sense of accomplishment and presence he seeks can be found in firefighting, which he sees as his life's value. His father supports his decision, saying he has grown up.

Jiang Ge then urges his father to hand over the company to a professional management team, arguing he has already achieved so much and it's time to enjoy life with his mother. His father finds the idea of enjoying life difficult and initially wants to continue working, but Jiang Ge insists, playfully "kidnapping" him to go home. Shi Lei and Qin Yue discuss their situation after Nan Chu's departure.

Shi Lei plans to take care of other artists and seek more opportunities until Nan Chu returns, when he will resume being her manager. Qin Yue decides to work hard to become a famous makeup artist so she can continue collaborating with Nan Chu upon her return. They wish Nan Chu, and also Lin Luxiao, all the best. Lin Luxiao arrives in Lushan and is met by Zhao Guo from the Lushan Fire Brigade.

Zhao Guo drives him to the station in an old electric vehicle, which they call a "broken electric vehicle." Along the way, they interact with villagers farming and herding cattle, who greet Zhao Guo warmly and ask for his help. Zhao Guo explains the difficulty in recruiting and that half the team comes from the local village.

Upon arrival, they have trouble pushing the vehicle, which they mention is one of only four vehicles at the station, typically reserved for emergencies. They find the Lushan Fire Brigade station is located right next to Lushan Primary School due to limited resources, making the area quite lively with children.

Zhao Guo gives Lin Luxiao a tour, showing him the living quarters, the area for washing up, the canteen where Zhao Guo is also the head chef, the solar panels used for power, and the dormitory. Zhao Guo explains the other team members are currently out on mountain patrol and will be back the next day. Lin Luxiao is shown where he will sleep. In America, Nan Chu is studying. She finds a diary belonging to her mother, Nan Yueru.

Reading an entry from March 2, 1995, Nan Yueru writes about marrying Li Xuejun and their decision to be together despite opposition, vowing to ignore gossip and be happy. Another entry from April 5, 1995, records Li Xuejun's departure, her decision not to see him off, keeping him in her heart, and counting the days until they meet again. Lin Luxiao in Lushan is also reading Li Xuejun's work notes, dated from 1995.

An entry from April 16, 1995, mentions settling in Lushan, finding the forest vast, constantly getting lost on patrols, and realizing the difficulty of the work. An entry from April 19, 1995, mentions getting lost again but feeling progress, understanding that forest fire work is different from his previous experience, with the focus being on prevention rather than rescue, and acknowledging he has much to learn.

Another entry from April 27, 1995, reveals his sadness because Nan Yueru hasn't sent a letter in a long time. He mentions missing home, the loneliness and difficulty of forest life, sometimes wanting to give up, but thinking of Nan Yueru waiting for him gives him strength. He wants to tell her he has become a better person in the mountains and hopes she will understand when he returns home.

While reading the notes, Lin Luxiao sees the names "Nan Yueru," "Li Xuejun," and "Nan Chu" written together and seems to make a connection between them. The next morning, Lin Luxiao greets the team members returning from their mountain patrol, including Wang Ben and Du Baohua. They joke amongst themselves and tease Lin Luxiao about his fair skin compared to their tanned faces. Zhao Guo tells them to wash up quickly for dinner.

At dinner, Zhao Guo serves them Western food, specifically pizza, which he made to accommodate Lin Luxiao. The team members are curious why Lin Luxiao transferred from the big city to Lushan. Afterwards, Zhao Guo suggests Lin Luxiao rest as the mountainous roads are difficult and the work is tiring, initially saying he should stay at the station during the next patrol. Lin Luxiao insists on joining, stating he is there to learn from them.

Zhao Guo agrees to let him join the afternoon field training. During the afternoon training, Lin Luxiao joins Zhao Guo and the team on patrol. Zhao Guo explains they must check 27 key monitoring areas and 19 easily flammable spots, calling them "firefighters on foot" because they have to walk everywhere.

He emphasizes the need to clear fallen trees blocking paths, even if they could walk around, because they become dangerous obstacles during fires or retreats – addressing future risks proactively is crucial experience. While walking, the team sings "Unity is Strength." Lin Luxiao suddenly feels dizzy. Wang Ben and Du Baohua notice and ask if he's alright, suspecting high altitude sickness. Zhao Guo agrees, noting Lin Luxiao's larger build might mean higher oxygen consumption.

He instructs Du Baohua to carry Lin Luxiao's backpack, but Lin Luxiao attempts to refuse, insisting he can walk alone, though he is clearly struggling. Back at the station, Zhao Guo brings Lin Luxiao ginger soup and medicine, seeing he has a fever. Lin Luxiao apologizes for causing trouble, but Zhao Guo dismisses it, saying they are a team. Lin Luxiao feels nauseous and can't drink the soup.

Later, waking up, Lin Luxiao gets water and overhears Wang Ben and Du Baohua talking about him. They question why he came to Lushan from the city, calling him useless and speculating he is just building his resume before leaving. Zhao Guo defends him, stating that as the youngest station chief in Beixun, Lin Luxiao is definitely not simple. Lin Luxiao returns to the dorm without revealing he overheard them.

The next day, a notice arrives from the Forestry and Grassland Administration about a newly discovered flammable area. The firefighters prepare to leave. Lin Luxiao, despite his recent fever and high altitude sickness, insists on joining them. Zhao Guo is hesitant, reminding him he was just sick and the task could take all day, risking another collapse. Lin Luxiao is stubborn, stating he is a member of Lushan and cannot be lazy, insisting he is recovered. Zhao Guo finally agrees, and they head out.

Episode 37 Recap

Despite being unwell, Lin Luxiao joined the Lushan firefighters in clearing flammable brush from the mountainside. Firefighters like Wang Ben told the instructor to rest and simply direct them, believing that was his primary role. Lin Luxiao admitted his lack of expertise in forest firefighting but emphasized his need to learn, expressing his willingness to become a disciple of anyone who would teach him.

Wang Ben proposed a challenge, telling Lin Luxiao to first become thoroughly familiar with the routes on Lushan before they could discuss mentorship. That night, Lin Luxiao continued reading Li Xuejun's diary. He read about Li Xuejun's persistent efforts to convince his team leader to teach him how to navigate the forest, learning practical tips like how the south side is usually covered in lush vegetation while the north side is prone to growing moss on rocks.

This entry inspired Lin Luxiao and offered him a potential way to earn the respect and guidance he sought. The next day, while at the station office, Lin Luxiao received a distress call from tourists who were lost on Lushan. The caller mentioned seeing a Guanyin portrait nearby and noted that the rocks around them were covered in moss. Lin Luxiao reported the situation to Captain Zhao.

Seeing the sudden shift in weather conditions and fearing the tourists' safety, Lin Luxiao decided to go out alone to locate and rescue them without waiting for others. When Captain Zhao and the rest of the team returned to the station, they discovered Lin Luxiao had already left for the rescue. Wang Ben expressed frustration that Lin Luxiao had ventured out alone without knowing the terrain.

Captain Zhao organized a search, sending firefighters into the mountain to look for both the trapped tourists and Lin Luxiao. To everyone's surprise, Lin Luxiao soon returned to the station, having successfully brought the lost tourists back safely. After dinner, Captain Zhao asked Lin Luxiao how he had managed to find the tourists. Lin Luxiao explained that the caller's description of a Guanyin portrait and moss on the rocks led him to determine they were likely in the north.

Knowing there was only one Guanyin Cave area facing north on Lushan, he was able to pinpoint their location. Wang Ben noticed that Lin Luxiao's feet were raw and blistered from hiking the unfamiliar terrain. He brought water for Lin Luxiao to soak his feet and gave him a medicinal ointment, explaining it was a remedy used by old mountain hunters to treat foot injuries sustained from constant walking.

Impressed by Lin Luxiao's initiative and success in the rescue, Wang Ben apologized for his earlier skepticism and agreed to take Lin Luxiao on as a student, teaching him about forest firefighting. Lin Luxiao formally recognized Wang Ben as his master, and Wang Ben presented him with a book titled "The ways of recognizing 1,000 common plants in the wild" as a gift for his new disciple.

In the following period, Lin Luxiao diligently studied forest knowledge under Wang Ben's guidance, quickly adapting and growing at the Lushan fire station. Meanwhile, overseas, Nan Chu was also working hard on her dance training. Captain Zhao instructed Lin Luxiao to go pick up supplies and two new firefighters who were being assigned to the station.

Lin Luxiao was surprised to find that the two newcomers were his former trainees from the Heping Road Special Division Station, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan. While playfully telling the young men that forest firefighting was tough and they were coming to suffer, Lin Luxiao was genuinely happy to see his former trainees. He emphasized that now that they were here, they needed to be serious, work hard, learn everything they could, and strive to become better firefighters.

Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan initially struggled to adjust to the different environment of the Lushan fire station. Lin Luxiao chatted with them, sharing his perspective. He mentioned that some people say forest firefighters must endure loneliness, but he felt he was learning to enjoy the solitude in this environment. Yijiu and Shiquan gave Lin Luxiao updates from their old station: Director Lou and Assistant Liu were still constantly competing.

They also mentioned that Yang Zhengang was preparing for his wedding and had asked Lou Mingye to be his best man, which apparently made Liu Ruyi very angry. Jiang Ge had found his path and was now training to become a firefighter. Lei Dagang had left the fire station and was working as a deliveryman, doing reasonably well, though he missed his former comrades. Lin Luxiao read the final entries in Li Xuejun's diary.

He came across a joyous passage where Li Xuejun shared the news that Nan Yueru was pregnant. Li Xuejun wrote about counting down the days until he could return home, anticipating the happiness of their future family of three. However, a later entry indicated that Li Xuejun had tragically sacrificed his life in a forest fire during an emergency rescue before he could see his child born. Separately, Nan Chu also read her mother Nan Yueru's diary.

Her mother's entries chronicled the challenges of her long-distance relationship with Li Xuejun and the profound difficulties she faced during her pregnancy, especially after learning about the forest fire, as she desperately waited for his return and resolved to stay strong for their child. The Lushan fire station received an urgent dispatch: a fire had broken out halfway up the mountain. Lin Luxiao and the other firefighters immediately mobilized.

Captain Zhao calmly assessed the situation, considering the wind direction and intensity, and gave orders for establishing a firebreak and activating water pumps. Lin Luxiao specifically instructed Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan to watch, learn, and prioritize their safety as they headed out to the fire.

Episode 38 Recap

After successfully putting out the fire, the firefighters rested on the spot. Suddenly, Shao Yijiu was bitten by a snake. Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan both believed it was a poisonous snake, and Shiquan even tried to suck out the poison for Yijiu. Zhao Guo and others then told them it was just a non-venomous grass snake, which relieved Lin Luxiao and Qin Shiquan.

Someone commented humorously on Shiquan and Yijiu's brotherhood, while Captain Du joked about his own unwillingness to help in such a situation. The others also teased Yijiu about how long it had been since he last showered. A villager, Uncle Zhang, came to the station asking who had cleaned his yard. When Yijiu and Shiquan were identified, he expressed his gratitude, explaining that their action of clearing the yard had saved his old house from the fire.

He brought a chicken as a thank-you gift for the firefighters. Yijiu and Shiquan explained that they were simply following Lin Luxiao's teaching that forest fire prevention focuses on prevention, not rescue, always staying vigilant to eliminate safety hazards. This demonstration of their growth pleased Lin Luxiao. That evening, after enjoying the chicken dinner, Zhao Guo took Lin Luxiao, Yijiu, and Shiquan to a special place on Lushan mountain, which he called the Lushan honor room.

He explained that while city firehouses had physical honor rooms, their honor room was this spot in the mountain where every firefighter who had served there left a plaque with a sentence written on it. Over the decades, some firefighters had sacrificed their lives, some had retired, and others had been transferred, but everyone left their mark here. For those who sacrificed, their words became their epitaphs.

Zhao Guo mentioned that he had already thought about what he would write on his own plaque one day, sharing a metaphor about being a flower blooming in the mountain. Lin Luxiao noticed a particular plaque and asked Zhao Guo about the person who wrote it. Zhao Guo revealed it belonged to Li Xuejun, a comrade who had transferred from the city years ago, just like Lin Luxiao.

Zhao Guo recounted how Li Xuejun was initially inexperienced and would often get lost in the forest, needing Zhao Guo to find him. Despite being seen as a "troublemaker" and "fool" by some, Li Xuejun was optimistic and persistent, constantly bothering Zhao Guo to be his master. Zhao Guo eventually agreed, influenced by Li Xuejun's detailed explanation of his ideas for a modified shovel. Li Xuejun then became a capable forest firefighter.

Zhao Guo recounted the tragic day when Li Xuejun was supposed to be on duty ensuring communication, but took Zhao Guo's place on the mountain because Zhao Guo had been injured. The fire grew rapidly, and the captain decided to use a backfire to protect the village. The wind suddenly shifted, trapping the firefighters. Zhao Guo could only follow their situation via walkie-talkie. Li Xuejun’s last words heard were, "The wind direction has changed, the village is safe.

I really want to go home." Lin Luxiao confirmed that Li Xuejun was indeed the person he thought he was, stating that his own father was Li Xuejun's former squad leader before he transferred to Lushan. Lin Luxiao then asked if Li Xuejun's modified shovel still existed. Zhao Guo led him to where it was kept.

Zhao Guo showed Lin Luxiao the shovel, explaining that it was designed specifically for forest fire fighting, removing unnecessary features and adding tools like a scissor. Lin Luxiao immediately recognized the value of the modified shovel, believing that mass production could significantly benefit many forest firefighters. Zhao Guo entrusted the shovel to Lin Luxiao, who promised to ensure its potential was fully realized.

During a meeting discussing how to manage highly flammable plants like ramie, which had recently been found by Yijiu and Shiquan, the firefighters acknowledged the plant's rapid spread and the difficulty in finding all areas affected with limited manpower. Someone suggested it would be helpful to have a map system like in games. This sparked an idea for Lin Luxiao, highlighting the importance of technological advancements and better equipment.

He called Lou Mingye, asking for help to find a manufacturer for mass-producing Li Xuejun's modified shovel and also requesting a drone. Lou Mingye agreed to assist and soon sent a drone to Lushan. The firefighters began using the drone to patrol the forest, search for flammable plants, and scout the terrain, which greatly reduced the need for extensive manual patrols.

Although Lin Luxiao and Nan Chu were physically distant, they stayed connected by following each other's activities and updates on social media. Later, Lin Luxiao, Yijiu, and Shiquan traveled to Yaxiang City for an exchange meeting. Upon arrival, Yijiu and Shiquan were enthralled by the sight of the snow-covered mountains, many seeing such extensive snow for the first time. They expressed excitement about potentially skiing, promising Lin Luxiao they would balance their work responsibilities with some leisure time.

During the exchange meeting, Lin Luxiao learned about an advanced forest fire alarm system that utilized infrared thermal imaging monitoring and all-weather intelligent detection. The system, which included monitoring lookout towers installed throughout the forest, could automatically detect even hidden or underground fires, prompting immediate alarms. Lin Luxiao showed great interest in this technology and arranged to learn more about its implementation after the meeting.

While attending the exchange meeting in Yaxiang City, Lin Luxiao received a devastating phone call from Yang Zhengang. Yang Zhengang informed him that Lei Dagang had passed away. After leaving the fire brigade, Dagang had become a deliveryman. During a fire, he rushed into the burning building without hesitation because he knew the optimal time for rescue. Although he managed to save several people, he did not survive.

Yang Zhengang told Lin Luxiao that Dagang had never forgotten his duty and was a true hero. Lin Luxiao was heartbroken by the news but also filled with pride for Dagang's bravery. Meanwhile, Nan Chu decided to return to China to work on a new film. Before leaving, she asked her mother to cook a farewell meal.

After reading her mother's diary, Nan Chu gained a deeper understanding of her father and realized that he was a hero, and that she was not a child without a father. She told her mother that she believed her mother had not loved the wrong person, having seen the beautiful memories, their genuine love and protection for each other, and her mother's strength in raising her alone, managing her career, and facing societal judgment.

Nan Chu expressed her understanding of her mother's silent suffering and encouraged her to share her joys and sorrows. She concluded by telling her mother that they were similar in one key way: once they made a choice, they would never regret it. Her mother acknowledged that Nan Chu had matured. Back at Lushan, Zhao Guo was preparing to cook for the team when he revealed a significant piece of news to Lin Luxiao.

He had received notification that he would be taking a back seat and retiring. He explained that he had served at Lushan for over twenty years, walking dozens of kilometers patrolling the mountain daily, and his body was no longer able to keep up. He admitted he had considered retiring earlier but had been worried about the team. However, with Lin Luxiao's arrival and evident talent, he felt confident leaving the Lushan Fire Station in his hands.

Episode 39 Recap

After returning to China, Nan Chu arrived at Lushan to film Director He's movie, and she was met by Shen Guangzong and Xi Gu. At the same time, Liu Ruyi came to the Lushan fire station to visit Lin Luxiao, who went specifically to pick up his good friend. Knowing Liu Ruyi was coming, the firefighters from Heping Road Special Division Station pooled their money to buy everyone gifts.

Shao Yijiu received a small drone, Qin Shiquan received the latest anti-fall camera, and Lin Luxiao received his old uniform signed by everyone. Liu Ruyi also brought the modified shovel that Lin Luxiao had asked Lou Mingye to make, and Lin Luxiao named it the Xuejun shovel. The Lushan fire station prepared a meal to welcome Liu Ruyi. During the meal, Lin Luxiao learned about the recent lives of his former comrades at the Heping Road Special Division Station.

Yang Zhengang and Li Lei got married and Li Lei was pregnant, with the due date approaching. Liu Ruyi had also married Doctor Xia Wan, and Jiang Ge had successfully joined the special division unit as a firefighter. Everyone's lives had entered a new phase. After returning to China, Nan Chu contacted Lin Qi, who asked when she would meet her brother. Nan Chu replied that they would meet naturally when the time was right.

Before his retirement, Zhao Guo left a quote in the Lushan honor room and formally said goodbye to his former comrades. The next day, Lin Luxiao and the Lushan firefighters saw off Zhao Guo. Early in the morning, Wang Ben had gone out to buy Lushan's local sweet potato flour for Zhao Guo. Zhao Guo was very touched by everyone's gesture and solemnly entrusted the Lushan fire station to them.

Just then, the alarm rang, and Zhao Guo, who had not yet left, resolutely joined the fire rescue operation. Lin Luxiao led the firefighters to the fire scene, while Zhao Guo insisted on standing his last shift by going alone to the watchtower to observe. After everyone's efforts, the open fire was extinguished. Lin Luxiao contacted Zhao Guo to report the news.

Zhao Guo unexpectedly discovered the wind direction had changed, causing the fire to reignite on the north side of Yangjiao Ridge. If the fire continued to spread in this direction, the villages there would be in great danger. Nan Chu's film crew also spotted traces of the mountain fire. Nan Chu urged everyone to leave quickly for safety. Lin Luxiao and his team rushed to Yangjiao Ridge to continue fighting the fire, and Zhao Guo quickly reunited with them.

Seeing the fire rapidly expanding, Zhao Guo contacted the Command Center to request reinforcements and also arranged for the emergency evacuation of villagers. As the temperature was too high, the firefighters could not continue to push forward. Zhao Guo temporarily organized everyone to retreat. The Heping Road Special Division Station received the rescue notification and quickly rushed to the Lushan fire station to participate in the rescue and firefighting efforts.

Zhao Guo received a call learning that Zhang's family was trapped in the mountains. He prepared to go retrieve them, and Lin Luxiao insisted on going with him. Nan Chu tried to contact Lin Luxiao to report the fire situation near Yangjiao Ridge, but couldn't reach him due to no signal. Nan Chu then used a walkie-talkie on a public channel to call for help.

Lin Luxiao, Zhao Guo, and others followed a mountain stream and found two trapped individuals (fishermen). They quickly organized a rescue. Lin Luxiao then heard Nan Chu's distress call on the walkie-talkie. Due to the spreading mountain fire, Shen Guangzong's car had an accident on the mountain road, and Xi Gu's leg was injured.

Lin Luxiao learned their approximate location and instructed them to head downhill towards the firebreak, emphasizing safety precautions like wetting clothes, carrying water, and avoiding running with the wind or going uphill. Nan Chu heard that Lin Luxiao still needed to go deeper into the mountains to find the missing villagers. Nan Chu urged Lin Luxiao to return safely, and he promised he would.

Lin Luxiao instructed Zhao Guo to take the two rescued individuals back, while he, along with Wang Ben, Yijiu, and Shiquan, continued searching for Zhang's family. Lou Mingye led the Heping Road Special Division Station firefighters to reinforce the effort. Their mission was to hold the first line of defense, but the mountain fire spread too quickly, and the first line was soon untenable. Upon receiving the message from the Command Center, Lou Mingye organized everyone to evacuate immediately.

Episode 40 (Ending) Recap

Lin Luxiao and his team successfully located Old Zhang's family in the mountain forest. He addressed Old Zhang directly, urging him to quickly cover his mouth with a towel and helped him put on clothes before leading them out, reassuring them not to be afraid. As they moved, Lin Luxiao stayed in contact with Nan Chu via walkie-talkie. Nan Chu reported being close to their destination but feeling intense heat as the temperature rose around them.

Lin Luxiao warned her the fire was spreading rapidly and she needed to cross the firebreak quickly before it became too strong, reminding her to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. She asked about his situation, and he confirmed he had found the people and was heading out. Nan Chu made him promise to return safely, and he assured her he would, asking her to wait for him.

Meanwhile, as twenty-four fire stations were dispatched to the large-scale Lushan fire, Lin Qi was deeply worried about his brother Lin Luxiao's safety. He asked his father if he could call, but his father insisted they wait until the fire was extinguished before checking on him. During a break, Liu Ruyi, who was injured, asked a doctor to bandage his wounds. His wife, Xia Wan, also a doctor, arrived at the scene.

Seeing his injuries, she expressed concern and urged him to rest and prioritize his safety and well-being. Firefighters reported to the Frontline Command that the fire was too strong, and the second line of defense was about to fail. Commander Meng Guohong received news that they had lost another point and the second line of defense could not hold. He immediately ordered the activation of Plan 3.

Addressing the assembled firefighters, Meng Guohong explained that the first and second lines had been lost due to the severe conditions and changing winds, leaving them with the final line of defense. He emphasized that the wildfire was in front of them, while their homes, families, and the well-being of countless households were behind them.

He declared they had no retreat and must carve out a firebreak two kilometers long and sixty meters wide, stating that no one, not even the Heavenly King, would cross them that day. The firefighters responded with a resounding affirmation of their commitment before being directed to their assigned tasks. As the mountain fire continued to spread, Nan Chu lost contact with Lin Luxiao. Shen Guangzong carried Xi Gu, but his strength was giving out.

Xi Gu expressed her regret for being a burden, while Shen Guangzong told her to apologize after they were safe. Nan Chu refused Xi Gu's suggestion that she leave them and go find help, insisting they must all get out together. Lin Luxiao's group, including Old Zhang's family, raced against the encroaching flames. During their escape, a person named Zhao fell, and they struggled to help them up as the fire closed in.

Later, Old Zhang was accidentally struck and injured by a burning tree. Lin Luxiao and his team worked frantically to help him. With the path ahead blocked by fire, Lin Luxiao ordered his team members, including Wang Ben, to use fire shelters to protect the family members caught between the flames and the impassable path. Hearing of the severe mountain fire, countless volunteers arrived in Lushan to offer assistance.

Commander Meng Guohong thanked them for their support and organized them for rescue efforts. Nan Chu, Shen Guangzong, and Xi Gu were eventually found and rescued by volunteers from a horse ranch, who brought them out on horseback. After descending, they encountered Commander Meng Guohong and Captain Zhao Guo. Zhao Guo asked Meng Guohong if he had seen Lin Luxiao, learning he had gone back to rescue more people.

Nan Chu, present during this exchange, also asked about Lin Luxiao and was told he was still fighting on the front line. She then decided to stay and volunteer, stating she wanted to wait for Lin Luxiao to return. At the Heping Road Special Division Station, the team learned that Lin Luxiao, Yijiu, and Shiquan had lost contact and were deeply worried about their safety, discussing how they had called them with no reply and couldn't find them anywhere.

Meanwhile, Lin Luxiao, along with Wang Ben, Yijiu, and Shiquan, had gathered Old Zhang's family under fire shelters. Using his walkie-talkie, Lin Luxiao, identifying himself as the instructor of the Lushan Squadron, reported finding three missing people on the north side of Longxu Ravine, confirming they were all alive, and requested immediate backup. The Command Center acknowledged the report and urged them to hold on while reinforcements were sent.

Lin Luxiao instructed Yijiu and Shiquan to put on their fire shelters and surround the villagers before telling everyone to get down as the fire pressed in. Reports from other areas of the fire ground were heard over the radio. Later, news came through that seven trapped people from the north side of Longxu Ravine had been rescued and were being transferred. Nan Chu, who had stayed to volunteer, watched as the rescued individuals were brought down the mountain.

Spotting Lin Luxiao safe among them, her relief overwhelmed her, and she rushed forward to embrace him. As they reunited, she confessed her fear of never seeing him again. He reassured her, reminding her that he had kept his promise. She recalled the "command for love" he had taught her. He affirmed he remembered, and she recited it: "My life belongs to the country, but my heart belongs to you. You protect the world. I protect you." He responded, "Okay."

Their moment was cut short by the announcement that the final battle against the mountain fire was beginning and volunteers needed to evacuate. Lin Luxiao bid farewell to Nan Chu, telling her his comrades needed him and he would wait for her to come home. She responded, "Wait for me to come home." Later, Nan Chu's dance drama was staged, and she successfully performed on her dream stage.

Members of the Heping Road Special Division Station and others attended to watch. After the performance concluded to thunderous applause, Nan Chu looked towards the theater entrance during her curtain call, waiting for Lin Luxiao. She recalled telling him, "I don't need you to be everyone's hero. You protect the peace of the world, and I will protect you." She firmly believed that he would emerge safely from the fire.

The members of the Heping Road Special Division Station gathered, sharing a meal of dumplings and celebrating the new year together. As they shared the moment, text appeared on screen displaying the promises exchanged between Nan Chu and Lin Luxiao: "I don't need you to be everyone's hero. You protect the peace of the world, and I will protect you," and "My life belongs to the country, but my heart belongs to you."
