Despite Luo Zhi’s outward display of strength, her tears became uncontrollable as the distance between her and Sheng Huainan grew. She couldn't understand why every time Sheng Huainan seemed to get closer, the situation would immediately turn dire, leaving her unable to trust his promises anymore. After confronting Ye Zhanyan about a lost diary, Luo Zhi walked away from Sheng Huainan, who tried to explain the situation.
Her cousin, Luo Yang, noticed her distress and offered to carry her bag, encouraging her to express her feelings. Luo Zhi tearfully confided in Luo Yang, revealing that her temporary return to Zhenhua was for Sheng Huainan, whom she had loved all along. She recounted his past promise to marry her and questioned why such hurtful situations kept recurring, making it impossible for her to believe him. Luo Yang gently comforted his crying cousin.
Luo Zhi continued to express her deep sense of betrayal, furious that Sheng Huainan had promised to marry her just twenty-four hours prior, only to turn around and seek out his ex-girlfriend. She lamented her lack of courage to confront him directly. Luo Yang, while comforting her, acknowledged that in relationships, the one who loves more often gets hurt more, and that Sheng Huainan's fickle behavior was unacceptable.
Meanwhile, Sheng Huainan confronted Ye Zhanyan, mistakenly believing she had orchestrated their entire encounter. However, he was correct in accusing her of deliberately creating misunderstandings, especially by putting her hand in his pocket when Luo Zhi arrived, and exploiting his trust to hurt Luo Zhi. Ye Zhanyan swore that Luo Zhi’s presence was a coincidence and that she truly missed him.
However, Sheng Huainan, disbelieving her lies, ended their relationship, telling her he couldn't trust her anymore and to let go. Ye Zhanyan refused, asserting her worth and wondering who else but Sheng Huainan could be her boyfriend. Sheng Huainan clarified that he was just an ordinary person with many flaws, not the perfect man she imagined, and that they were impossible.
Ye Zhanyan accused him of thinking she was materialistic, but also expressed her desire for a lover whose eyes and heart were solely on her. Sheng Huainan tried to discuss their emotional issues, but Ye Zhanyan angrily redirected the blame to Luo Zhi and his mother. Sheng Huainan calmly stated that love should make two people better, but she had become less like herself.
Ye Zhanyan, in desperation, admitted to lying, saying she would do anything to keep him by her side for even a minute, asking what he had ever done for her. Sheng Huainan finally cut ties, telling her not to contact him again, to which Ye Zhanyan vowed he would regret it. Later, Sheng Huainan met Ye Zhanyan in person to return an item, telling her his New Year could only truly begin once he had returned her belongings.
Luo Yang decided to propose to Chen Jing, using her upcoming birthday as an occasion for a 'double happiness' celebration on New Year's Day. Chen Jing was delighted, but her happiness waned when Luo Yang tried to put the ring on her finger. Luo Zhi noticed the ring was several sizes too big, and after playfully chastising Luo Yang for forgetting to remove the tag, she later consoled Chen Jing in the restroom, advising her to be understanding.
Chen Jing, while initially disappointed by Luo Yang's oversight, revealed that after five years together, they had their own way of communicating, and she could always find the good in him, even when he was clumsy. She encouraged Luo Zhi not to worry about them and to take care of herself. Jiang Baili went on a date with Gu Zhiye at the same restaurant where she had her first date with Ge Bi.
She found it astonishing how similar Gu Zhiye was to Ge Bi—same car, same preferred restaurant, even sitting in the same seats. Gu Zhiye, however, preferred not to be compared to others and directly asked if she was rejecting him. Jiang Baili confessed to feeling like she was "committing a crime" by dating someone so similar to her ex-boyfriend so soon after their breakup.
Gu Zhiye, finding her "unconventional thinking" interesting, assured her he was not Ge Bi, despite their similarities. He then confessed to having researched her on the university forum out of curiosity, acknowledging he saw the "Sida Saint" comments but emphasizing that he only cared about what he observed himself. He then made his intentions clear, hoping she would forget past heartaches and promising to win her over. Separately, Ye Zhanyan met Zhuo Chen, who presented her with flowers.
She told him that Sheng Huainan was unreliable and unfaithful, and that she now knew what she truly wanted: something unique and exclusively hers. She informed Zhuo Chen that she would be studying abroad after the New Year and promised to be his girlfriend if he could show her something truly unique before she left. Zhuo Chen, cherishing this opportunity, readily agreed.
Back at the dorm, Jiang Baili, oblivious to Luo Zhi’s subdued mood, excitedly recounted her date with Gu Zhiye, complaining about Luo Zhi abandoning her. Luo Zhi warned Jiang Baili that Gu Zhiye and Ge Bi were "similar types" and urged her not to "lose herself." Jiang Baili defended Gu Zhiye, questioning his motives given his wealth and connections, but Luo Zhi remained suspicious and insisted she not get deeply involved.
Jiang Baili, however, dismissed Luo Zhi’s concerns, declaring Gu Zhiye to be merely a "rest stop for a broken relationship." Meanwhile, Ge Bi sought Chen Mohan's forgiveness in a hotel room, presenting her with roses and apologizing for the previous night's "sharing session" incident. He tried to charm her by highlighting the room's excellent view of the New Year's Eve fireworks, lamenting that he had watched them alone.
Chen Mohan, seemingly appeased, told him to change clothes so they could leave. While Ge Bi was changing, Chen Mohan secretly checked his phone and discovered a message he had sent to Jiang Baili. Enraged, Chen Mohan used Ge Bi’s phone to call Jiang Baili, unleashing a torrent of abuse, accusing her of being shameless and constantly pursuing other women’s boyfriends.
Jiang Baili heard Ge Bi struggling to retrieve his phone and the escalating argument between them before the call abruptly ended. Worried that Chen Mohan might physically harm Ge Bi, Jiang Baili wanted to intervene, but Luo Zhi stopped her, explaining that Chen Mohan needed a "punching bag" and Ge Bi was getting what he deserved. Jiang Baili reluctantly agreed to stay out of it.
Chen Mohan stormed out of the hotel in a taxi, leaving Ge Bi behind, shouting that being with him was her worst decision and questioning Jiang Baili’s standing. That evening, Sheng Huainan waited downstairs at the female dormitory, asking other students to call Luo Zhi down. Xu Riqing saw him and, guessing he was waiting for Luo Zhi, went up to call her. Jiang Baili also urged Luo Zhi to go down.
However, Luo Zhi exclaimed that Sheng Huainan was "out of his mind" for causing such a scene. Despite efforts from her friends to get her to go down, Luo Zhi refused, remembering advice she'd heard that women should "act spoiled" to make men care. She explained that going down would only fuel gossip. The next morning, Sheng Huainan was still waiting downstairs. He approached Luo Zhi, attempting to explain his encounter with Ye Zhanyan.
Luo Zhi, however, firmly told him she had nothing to do with him and didn’t need an explanation for his social life. When Sheng Huainan offered to accompany her to the library, Luo Zhi said she already had plans. Just then, Zhang Mingrui arrived on his bicycle. Zhang Mingrui offered his bike for Sheng Huainan to take Luo Zhi to the library. However, Luo Zhi chose to ride with Zhang Mingrui instead, intentionally using him as a "shield."
As they rode, Zhang Mingrui playfully asked if he was her shield, and Luo Zhi apologized, explaining she didn't want to see Sheng Huainan. As an apology, she offered to buy him ice cream. While at the ice cream shop, Zhang Mingrui performed a card trick for a laughing Luo Zhi. He joked about Sheng Huainan "stabbing him in the back," and Luo Zhi joined in the teasing.
Luo Zhi then stated that once this "foolish thing" was over, she wouldn't owe him any more favors, to which Zhang Mingrui replied she never owed him anything. Xu Riqing saw Luo Zhi and Zhang Mingrui together, laughing, and became upset. She approached Sheng Huainan, questioning why he had called her instead of being with Luo Zhi, who was currently with Zhang Mingrui.
She then confronted him about repeatedly sending Zhang Mingrui to care for Luo Zhi, asking whether he was chasing Luo Zhi himself or letting Zhang Mingrui chase her. Sheng Huainan insisted he would win Luo Zhi back himself. Xu Riqing then praised Zhang Mingrui, stating he was far better than Sheng Huainan for always cleaning up his "emotional messes."
Sheng Huainan, annoyed, revealed that Zhang Mingrui was working hard to buy gifts for Xu Riqing, suggesting she lower her material desires for a better relationship. Later, in class, Sheng Huainan saw an empty seat next to Luo Zhi and eagerly moved towards it. Luo Zhi, playing hard to get, quickly told Zhang Mingrui, who was passing by, that the seat was for him. Sheng Huainan was forced to sit behind them.
When Luo Zhi adjusted Zhang Mingrui's collar, Sheng Huainan, clearly jealous, flicked Zhang Mingrui with a paper ball. Zhang Mingrui and Luo Zhi exchanged knowing glances and joked about the "childish" person responsible. After class, Sheng Huainan blocked Luo Zhi with his bike, offering a ride to the dorm. Luo Zhi declined, saying she needed to go to the library.
Sheng Huainan followed her there, even attempting to reserve a seat for her, but she intentionally found her own spot, leaving him feeling disheartened. He continued to follow her, observing her from a distance, such as when she went for a walk on the playground. The dynamic had completely reversed; once Luo Zhi secretly followed Sheng Huainan, now he was the one persistently shadowing her.
