A discussion takes place regarding the upcoming ballet. Yang Yun presents her view that the beauty of ballet originates from the characters' state of mind, which is rooted in their relationships. She highlights the thousand-year bond between the White Snake and Xiao Qing, suggesting Xu Xian is a transient figure in their long history. Yang Yun feels that with three characters, Xiao Qing is often marginalized, reducing the production to a conventional love story akin to Swan Lake or Giselle.

Zhao Gang expresses concern about the limited time before the premiere for implementing new choreography ideas. Yang Yun proposes that significant changes are only needed for the lake and broken bridge scenes, suggesting they could choreograph it themselves as the White Snake and Xiao Qing characters have a strong foundation. She suggests observing Qiaomi and Wen Xiaoyao's relationship, considering them embodiments of Bai Suzhen and Xiao Qing. Zhao Gang tells Yang Yun to return to the rehearsal hall.

Amidst this, Qiao Guanghui calls Zhao Gang, reminding him about his commitment to teach part-time at Song Guanwang's training center and encouraging him to ensure the children are happy. Zhao Gang, already stressed, calls Qiao Guanghui a "hick" but is instructed to visit Song Guanwang after work. Later, after work, Yang Yun shows frustration towards Yin Ye, refusing her a ride and referencing her not getting in the car the previous day. Yin Ye leaves determinedly on her own.

Qiaomi observes this interaction and finds it amusing. Zhao Gang arrives at Song Guanwang's training center, where Song Guanwang is openly critical and unwelcoming. However, a dance teacher named Tiantian recognizes Zhao Gang and requests an autograph. Zhao Gang confronts Song Guanwang about her persistent sarcasm. She explains it's because he showed disdain for her training center during his first visit. Song Guanwang clarifies that taking the part-time job requires following procedure, which, like for Tiantian, involves dancing.

Challenged, Zhao Gang agrees to perform. Without warming up and due to his age, he injures his foot while dancing shortly after starting. Song Guanwang teases him about needing insurance before dancing and comments on his age. She eventually tells Tiantian to take him home and jokes to Zhao Gang not to worry about the "gift" being damaged. The following day, Zhao Gang arrives at the rehearsal space in a wheelchair.

He instructs Qiaomi and Wen Xiaoyao to remain and improvise a three-minute duet on any theme within ten minutes, using basic training music, to assess their chemistry. He sends the rest of the company to the performance hall.

Qiaomi and Wen Xiaoyao are perplexed by the sudden request but speculate that Yang Yun might have influenced Zhao Gang to shift the choreography's focus to the White Snake and Xiao Qing relationship, potentially offering Qiaomi a chance to be promoted from understudy. Yang Yun and Yin Ye are in the changing room preparing. Yang Yun offers Yin Ye practice clothes and asks again why she didn't get in the car the day before.

Yin Ye responds that everyone has a temper and that tempers eventually subside. Zhao Gang calls Yang Yun and asks her to stay and observe the ten-minute improvisation he's requested from Wen Xiaoyao and Qiaomi. Qiao Guanghui visits Zhao Gang at the training center and is surprised to see him in a wheelchair. Zhao Gang jokingly attributes his ailment to anger causing liver pain and suggests walking more. Qiao Guanghui presses for details about the injury.

Zhao Gang dramatically claims Qiao Guanghui's "heroine" injured him, challenging Qiao Guanghui to push him from a height. He angrily accuses Qiao Guanghui of abandoning their friendship for a woman, then gets up from the wheelchair and walks away, telling Qiao Guanghui not to leave. Qiao Guanghui calls Song Guanwang to inquire about Zhao Gang's injury. Song Guanwang confirms Zhao Gang is limping but denies directly causing it.

She explains that Qiao Guanghui sent Zhao Gang as a "gift" for the part-time job, which required an audition dance. Song Guanwang feels bad that his "old arms and legs" got injured when he immediately jumped in, but states he was responsible for his own actions. Qiao Guanghui expresses relief, having worried about being forced to choose between romance and friendship, insisting he is indeed that type of person.

Song Guanwang tells him to stop talking nonsense and suggests Qiao Guanghui invite Zhao Gang over for dinner so she can apologize and resolve the misunderstanding. Qiao Guanghui agrees, thinking Zhao Gang seems quite pitiful. Song Guanwang instructs him not to buy medicine, only to make sure Zhao Gang comes. At the training hall, Qiaomi and Wen Xiaoyao perform their improvised duet.

Yang Yun observes their performance, noting their excellent chemistry, which she believes stems from their genuine relationship and couldn't be conveyed by a different pair relying solely on physical movement. Zhao Gang disagrees, asserting that the Legend of the White Snake fundamentally depicts the unchanging love between Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian. Yang Yun counters that nothing in life is unchangeable.

Zhao Gang reveals he deliberately orchestrated this improvisation specifically for Yang Yun, hoping to convince her to abandon her alternative choreographic ideas, as rehearsals and leadership reviews are approaching. He again tells her to go back to the theater. As Zhao Gang prepares to leave, Yang Yun offers to push his wheelchair. Wen Xiaoyao visits her mother's grave at Babaoshan, as she does every seventh day of the lunar month.

Before heading there, she receives a call from Zhou Tong, who is waiting for her near the subway entrance. Although she was on her way to Babaoshan, she agrees to meet him first. They meet near the subway, and their conversation is somewhat awkward. Wen Xiaoyao asks if he still considers dating and marriage burdens and questions if his previous declaration of falling for her at first sight while drunk was merely a joke.

He denies it was just a joke. Wen Xiaoyao reflects that her mother couldn't dance the White Snake role because she fell in love with her father, and states she will not make the same mistake. They briefly discuss philosophy, including the concept of meeting someone exactly like oneself. Wen Xiaoyao mentions her intention to go to Babaoshan to visit her mother. Zhou Tong asks if he can accompany her, and she agrees.

Descending from Babaoshan, Wen Xiaoyao and Zhou Tong engage in playful banter, including a lighthearted argument about why going downhill seems faster than uphill. Wen Xiaoyao reminds him of a prank he played on her at the Forbidden City the previous day and declares she will seek revenge. Her chosen revenge involves him pretending to be blind on the subway, with her acting as his guide. He finds the idea awkward but agrees, using her scarf to cover his eyes.

On the crowded subway, Wen Xiaoyao guides him. At one point, she leans her head on his shoulder, and he briefly puts his arm around her, but they quickly return to their separate standing postures. Despite the playful arguments and the unusual situation, the day appears to have been a source of happiness for Wen Xiaoyao. Later, Qiaomi is with Qiao Guanghui at what appears to be an arcade or internet cafe.

She tells him a story involving a landlord, a ring, and a woman to illustrate a point relevant to his situation with Song Guanwang. Qiaomi explains that the "auntie" (Song Guanwang) reached a definitive conclusion the previous day that she is not suitable for him and specifically conveyed this message to Qiaomi to deliver. Qiaomi believes Song Guanwang was being direct and honest. Qiao Guanghui tells Qiaomi to stop referring to Song Guanwang as "auntie" and instructs her not to seek Song Guanwang out again in the future.
