The Song of Glory Episode 50 Recap
> The Song of Glory Recap
Lu Wan'er and Chen Shaoxun paused their rushed journey at the outskirts of the city. Lu Wan'er felt uneasy, unsure of right or wrong. Chen Shaoxun was meticulously attentive to her, inquiring about her well-being. When Lu Wan'er expressed her gratitude for his constant care since they first met at Muran Pavilion, Chen Shaoxun almost confessed his feelings, but the words caught in his throat.
Instead, he offered to take her back to San Jiu Hall if she had no permanent home. Lu Wan'er declined, stating it wouldn't be appropriate, but offered to play a piece of music for him under the moonlight, an offer he gratefully accepted. She secretly expressed remorse, regretting her past actions and wishing she could turn back time. Meanwhile, Shen Lige arrived at San Jiu Hall to find it empty, as Chen Shaoxun hadn't returned.
She took Liu Yikang back to the prince's manor to investigate his worsening hand tremor and drowsiness, but the imperial physician couldn't find any cause. With Sun Taifei's birthday approaching, Liu Yikang decided to seize the opportunity to reconcile with her and put their past differences aside.
Shen Lige, despite her hidden worries about his health, agreed to accompany him to the imperial mausoleum after making him promise to return to San Jiu Hall for a thorough check-up by Chen Shaoxun. She then instructed San Bao to bring chestnuts, which she and Liu Yikang peeled to take to Sun Taifei. Liu Yikang expressed his appreciation, noting her deep understanding of him.
At her residence in the imperial mausoleum, Sun Taifei meticulously prepared a feast and anxiously awaited Liu Yikang's arrival. Her face lit up with joy upon seeing him, dusty from the journey. She welcomed him, and he reassured her, "Mother, I am still your Kang'er." The mother and two sons, Liu Yikang and Liu Yixuan, gathered happily at the table. Shen Lige presented the peeled chestnuts, which touched Sun Taifei deeply, reminding her of Liu Yikang's childhood.
The family reminisced about old times, recalling poems Sun Taifei taught them and the children's playful antics. Sun Taifei served Liu Yikang his favorite dish, Fish and Water Shield in Rice Porridge, which he praised for still having the taste of childhood. Chun Fang, a maid, commented on Sun Taifei's long-held wish to see Liu Yikang again.
Lu Wan'er played the zither for entertainment, and Sun Taifei brought out her personally brewed peony wine, inviting everyone to toast to her health. Liu Yixuan was pleased to see the apparent reconciliation between his brother and mother. Later, Sun Taifei and Liu Yikang shared a private drink. Sun Taifei expressed profound gratitude for his visit, making her birthday complete, and toasted him. As they drank, Liu Yikang began to feel dizzy and his body trembled.
He attributed it to drinking too much, but Sun Taifei chillingly revealed that his symptoms would quickly worsen, leaving him weak and unable to speak. She had tampered with the peony wine. When Liu Yikang tried to call for Shen Lige and Liu Yixuan, Sun Taifei mocked him, saying no one could hear him. She admitted to poisoning him, intending to use her own death to frame him and cause a permanent rift between him and Liu Yixuan.
She then forced a dagger into Liu Yikang's trembling hand and plunged it into her own abdomen, crying for help. Just then, Liu Yixuan and Shen Lige, alerted by the commotion, rushed in and witnessed the shocking scene of Liu Yikang holding the bloody dagger with Sun Taifei wounded. As Sun Taifei lay dying, she feigned maternal concern, urging Liu Yixuan to run, further solidifying Liu Yikang's guilt in Liu Yixuan's eyes.
Liu Yikang, in a daze, repeatedly mumbled, "It wasn't me." He tried to reason with Sun Taifei, suggesting there was a mastermind behind her actions, which she confirmed, adding that it was too late for him. Chun Fang intercepted Shen Lige, repeating Sun Taifei's fabricated message of repentance and mentioning a soothing incense from Prince Peng Cheng's manor that she cherished. Shen Lige was puzzled by the mention of soothing incense.
Liu Yixuan, enraged and convinced of Liu Yikang's guilt, lunged at him. Shen Lige bravely stepped between them, taking Liu Yikang, who was rapidly losing consciousness, to San Jiu Hall. She ordered Xu Zhan to block Liu Yixuan and his men. In the carriage, Liu Yikang, in a moment of lucidity, told Shen Lige that everything she had witnessed was an illusion, a trap set by Sun Taifei with a mastermind behind her.
He urged Shen Lige not to panic and to protect Liu Yixuan before falling into a deep coma. At San Jiu Hall, Chen Shaoxun examined Liu Yikang and found black blood, diagnosing a large amount of Heart Addiction Grass in his system. He explained that the toxins had been stimulated, causing Liu Yikang to lose control. Although the antidote had been administered, the poison's source remained unknown.
Chen Shaoxun noted that Heart Addiction Grass could lurk undetected in the body, and peony wine acted as a "guiding drug" that would greatly confuse one's senses. Shen Lige expressed her disbelief that Sun Taifei, with her limited staff, could know such an obscure method of poisoning. Shortly after, Kong Cheng reported that rumors had spread like wildfire throughout Jiankang, accusing Prince Peng Cheng of killing Sun Taifei.
The public and many court officials, recalling past conflicts, quickly condemned him for unfilial conduct, solidifying a motive in the public eye and declaring him unworthy of his position as prince regent. Shen Lige recognized this as part of the mastermind's plan and immediately tasked Kong Cheng with investigating who spread the rumors.
Chen Shaoxun offered to help Shen Lige search for the poison source at Prince Peng Cheng's manor, while Xu Zhan and others pledged to protect San Jiu Hall. Meanwhile, Lu Wan'er, watching Liu Yixuan consumed by hatred, knelt by Sun Taifei's bier, weeping with profound regret. She confessed to her own part, admitting her original intent to poison Prince Peng Cheng, but agonizing that her actions had unexpectedly implicated Sun Taifei.
She desperately wanted to reveal the truth but feared Liu Yixuan's wrath. At Prince Peng Cheng's manor, Chen Shaoxun discovered Heart Addiction Grass in an incense burner. A sudden flashback to when he gave Lu Wan'er soothing incense for Liu Yikang made him realize Lu Wan'er's involvement. He immediately went to confront her.
Back at San Jiu Hall, San Bao reported that Liu Yixuan had mobilized the central army and, accompanied by many court officials, had surrounded San Jiu Hall to arrest Liu Yikang. Shen Lige rushed back, determined to prevent his arrest.
She confronted Liu Yixuan, who stood with a blade pointed, and pleaded for calm, highlighting the many suspicious circumstances: Sun Taifei's rapid death, the swift spread of rumors across the city, and the inexplicable motive for Liu Yikang to personally kill an unarmed woman, especially in front of his brother. She also questioned how Liu Yixuan knew Liu Yikang was at San Jiu Hall so quickly.
Liu Yixuan, however, cut her off, stating that he witnessed the murder with his own eyes and Liu Yikang must pay with his life. Shen Lige retorted that she also witnessed the event, arguing that Liu Yikang was not fully conscious and that Sun Taifei herself had forced the dagger into her own body, aiming to frame Liu Yikang so Liu Yixuan could take his place, even suggesting Liu Yixuan's possible involvement.
As the standoff intensified, Liu Yikang slowly regained consciousness. Taking in the volatile situation, he made a difficult choice. He calmly admitted to killing Sun Taifei, stating he had nothing to say and was willing to face the law. He understood that a witness account made defense futile and was ready to accept his conviction, hoping to protect Shen Lige and buy her time to find the real culprit. Shen Lige, recalling his earlier words about the trap and mastermind, understood his sacrifice and silently prayed for his safety. Liu Yikang then allowed himself to be taken away.
