I Am Nobody Episode 4 Recap
> I Am Nobody Recap
When Zhang Chulan was about to unleash the power within him, he suddenly recalled his grandfather's teachings, urging him to suppress his anger and endure, advising him never to reveal his abilities to anyone. Seeing Zhang Chulan appear weak, Zhang Lingyu dismissed him as unremarkable and unworthy, attributing this to his grandfather, whom he called a traitor and a villain responsible for many deaths. Lingyu then used his power, knocking Zhang Chulan to the ground and preparing to leave.
However, Zhang Chulan decided he was done hiding. He stood up, declaring he had been down long enough, and prepared to use his full strength. He reflected that he had always pretended to be ordinary among normal people to avoid being seen as different, but now, among these Outsiders, he was still treated as an anomaly, seemingly because of the "Qi Body Origination."
The insults directed at his grandfather, who he knew was loving, deeply angered him, fueling his decision to finally stop hiding and fight back. Feng Baobao sensed her protégé's state and encouraged him to show Zhang Lingyu all his capabilities. Following her encouragement, Zhang Chulan pulled off his hair tie and unleashed a powerful lightning technique, engaging Lingyu in a fierce exchange whose power affected those nearby. As the fight intensified, Feng Baobao stepped in to stop the dangerous confrontation.
Witnessing Zhang Chulan's true ability, Zhang Lingyu acknowledged his strength and formally invited him to the Outsider Martial Arts Contest at Mount Longhu, scheduled for two months later, where the next Chief Celestial Taoist and Tianshidu successor would be selected. Zhang Chulan was initially dismissive of the invitation but became intrigued when Lingyu mentioned the contest could lead him to information about why his grandfather knew techniques from the Tianshi Mansion.
Zhang Chulan then openly admitted that he had been pretending to be weak and was happy to finally stop hiding. Feng Baobao told him that now that he was her "slave," he wouldn't need to hide or run anymore. Meanwhile, Wang Ye arrived at Wudang Mountain. He learned from fellow disciples about the open Outsider Martial Arts Contest at Mount Longhu and that Zhang Chulan, the successor of Qi Body Origination, was expected to attend.
Upon seeing a picture of Zhang Chulan on a phone, Wang Ye was reminded of a disturbing vision he had experienced in the phantasmagorical dimension during the tumultuous Year of Jiashen, seeing a bloody youth. Troubled, he visited his grandmaster, Hong Ye, finding him distressed and experiencing lingering visions of the past conflict during the Jiashen Calamity, involving Wudang disciples and those trying to seize the Gate of Gale technique.
Hong Ye spoke of the sacrifices made, including by his "brother," Zhou Sheng, who, along with others, desperately defended Wudang during the siege. Hong Ye told Wang Ye that his phantasmagorical dimension was extraordinary and signified he was the chosen one meant to master it. He instructed Wang Ye to perceive Zhou Sheng practicing the Gate of Gale within the inner sight, stating that Wang Ye was the successor.
Understanding the meaning of his destiny and reflecting on Hong Ye's decades guarding a "delusion" and the nature of letting go, Wang Ye asked Hong Ye for permission to attend the contest at Mount Longhu to see the "monkey" (Zhou Sheng)'s skill, though Hong Ye was wary due to the dangers associated with the Gate of Gale and the possibility of history repeating itself, threatening Wudang's existence if the technique resurfaced.
Later, Feng Baobao took Zhang Chulan to a remote, dilapidated villa, explaining that this was where they would stay for a month for rigorous training. Zhang Chulan, having initially misunderstood this as a vacation, was surprised. Feng Baobao clarified that winning the upcoming contest at Mount Longhu, where the next Chief Celestial Taoist and Tianshidu successor would be chosen, required intense preparation. Zhang Chulan expressed discouragement, recalling his fight with Lingyu and claiming he was only narrowly defeated.
Feng Baobao revealed that Lingyu had only used thirty percent of his strength to test him, which further deflated Zhang Chulan, making him feel training was pointless as he couldn't possibly win against such a gap.
When Zhang Chulan wanted to give up and leave, Feng Baobao motivated him by saying that continuing would lead him to the truth about his grandfather, urging him to use the contest as a way to climb up and reach the person holding the answers, the 99th Chief Celestial Taoist, Zhang Zhiwei. Their training began, starting with cleaning the neglected house.
Feng Baobao coached Zhang Chulan on the basics of utilizing his qi, physically correcting his posture when he struggled with the fundamental Qi circulation technique, and calling him useless. She continued supervising his practice even while taking an outdoor bath, constantly telling him to keep training. Zhang Chulan's attempts to circulate his qi were hindered by it flowing incorrectly, which he attributed to being distracted by Feng Baobao's presence.
Feng Baobao recognized that the actual problem was a seal on Zhang Chulan called the Restrictive Sand, which was intended to help him focus but had become an obstacle, noting the difficulties presented by adolescent males. Deciding the problem needed to be solved, she brought in her female friends, Meng, Tian, Jing, Han, and Lisa, introducing them to Zhang Chulan as friends of Mr. Xu who had come for a party.
She described Zhang Chulan as having been single since birth and being naive about relationships, encouraging her friends to be proactive. The friends quickly surrounded Zhang Chulan, asking about his past (like studying abroad in a noble school or playing golf) and trying to get him drunk and remove his clothes. As the female friends became more insistent and intrusive, Zhang Chulan reached his breaking point, shouting "Enough!" .
He confronted Feng Baobao, angered by her treating him like an object, asking what she took him for. He echoed her earlier insults, calling her brain-damaged and questioning her intelligence for believing that someone as unlucky-looking and useless as him could get girls to throw themselves at him. The friends, offended by his outburst, called him a coward/wimp and useless garbage nobody wants, leaving the dilapidated villa.
Alone, Zhang Chulan realized that even when Feng Baobao tried to present him favorably, she, like the girls, still saw him as unlikable and useless. He declared the master-servant game was over. He explained that his grandfather had always made him suppress himself because he didn't want him to step into the Outsider world, a lesson he had followed for many years.
However, now that he was exposed, hiding was meaningless, and he had learned that the more he acted submissive, the more others would truly treat him as such. Despite Feng Baobao warning him of the dangerous fate of continuing down this path and threatening him with a knife, repeatedly calling him back, Zhang Chulan refused to yield. He stated that while continuing might mean losing his life, losing his dignity by staying was a far worse outcome. He walked away, leaving Feng Baobao standing alone, looking at his departing back and realizing she had messed things up.
