The First Frost Episode 2 Recap
> The First Frost Recap
Eight years ago, on the sunny first day of high school, Wen Yifan’s father dropped her off at Nanwu City High School. Unable to find her classroom, she asked a senior passing by for directions, who turned out to be Sang Yan. He curtly told her to find Class 17 of Year 10 herself, questioning if she expected him to read out the classroom numbers one by one, and playfully called her "my junior."
When she finally arrived, the teacher mistakenly called out "Sang Yan," assuming the name belonged to a girl. Just then, Sang Yan arrived, also late. As the only two latecomers, they were assigned the last two seats, becoming deskmates. Wen Yifan had an internal thought, realizing that for a moment, she had forgotten who Sang Yan was and who she was, feeling as though a second version of herself had appeared in the world.
After the New Year's Eve live broadcast, Wen Yifan declined her friend Zhong Siqiao's invitation to continue partying at a gastropub called "Overtime," wanting to go home and organize her materials. Upon returning home, she posted a message on her social media, questioning if the new year would be good, then reflected that whether it was good or not was up to her.
Her supervisor had also advised Wen Yifan to relax and forget negative emotions to embrace the new year, sensing she was bottling things up. Later, Zhong Siqiao called, having discovered that Sang Yan was "The Headliner" of Gastropub Street and the owner of "Overtime." She wondered if Wen Yifan hadn't recognized him. Wen Yifan opened her chat with Sang Yan but found nothing beyond a single question mark he had sent.
Overwhelmed, she quietly moved her bed to block her door and shed silent tears. The next day, Wen Yifan viewed an apartment her colleague, Wang Linlin, was subletting. Wang Linlin highlighted its proximity to work and her preference for a known roommate due to the risks of renting with strangers. Though the rent was higher than her current place, Wen Yifan agreed to move to Uptown Flower City, prioritizing having a safe place to sleep.
Wang Linlin then invited Wen Yifan to dinner with her ex-boyfriend, Su Haoan. Su Haoan picked them up and immediately recognized Wen Yifan. In the car, he excitedly woke a sleeping Sang Yan, proclaiming, "Wake up and see your unforgettable crush. Wen Yifan is here." Wang Linlin asked if Sang Yan used to have feelings for Wen Yifan, which Su Haoan confirmed, adding that she hadn't reciprocated back then.
He casually remarked it had been seven or eight years since Wen Yifan transferred schools and ribbed a silent Sang Yan, prompting another friend to joke that Sang Yan likely thought Wen Yifan had poor taste. They arrived at "Overtime," the gastropub owned by Sang Yan and his high school dormmates, Qian Fei and Chen Junwen, with Su Haoan being their close friend and partner.
The outspoken Su Haoan immediately announced that it was Sang Yan's birthday, January 2nd, a Capricorn. Sang Yan, annoyed, retorted that revealing it so early ruined the surprise. Later, Wen Yifan encountered Sang Yan near the restroom. She greeted him with "It's been a while," to which he sarcastically replied it had only been two days.
Wen Yifan then explained that on New Year's Eve, she had been staring at him not because she recognized him, but because his zipper was down, a fact many people around them were discussing. Wen Yifan soon excused herself from dinner, citing an urgent work task. Sang Yan quietly followed her out and had her lead him to Su Haoan’s car in the parking garage.
Wen Yifan then asked Sang Yan for a ride home, and though he initially claimed it was a detour, he pulled his car up to her as she was trying to hail a cab. In the car, she asked if it was his birthday, and he countered, "You forgot?" This triggered a memory of him giving her a birthday gift in high school and casually mentioning his birthday was January 2nd.
After Sang Yan dropped her off, Wen Yifan returned to her shared apartment, only to be ambushed by the man who had previously assaulted her, now released from jail and accompanied by two friends. They cornered her in a dead-end alley, but just in time, Sang Yan arrived. He put her in his car for safety before fighting the men himself. To protect her, he lured them away before returning to drive her from the scene.
They went to the police station, where Sang Yan chided her for running in the opposite direction when he had called out to her during the chase. She explained she was afraid he couldn't handle three men and didn't want to drag him into her troubles. Afterward, concerned about his injuries, Wen Yifan stopped at a pharmacy to buy supplies and insisted on cleaning and dressing his wounds. Though Sang Yan acted tough, he was visibly moved by her care.
Worried for her safety, Sang Yan accompanied Wen Yifan back to her old apartment, which he derisively called a "dump," to help her pack her belongings. He then drove her to her new apartment in Uptown Flower City. At the entrance, she thanked him and offered to buy him dinner, which he declined, stating he would have helped any stranger. Before leaving, Wen Yifan complimented him, noting that even his temporary injuries couldn't diminish his charm.
After she went upstairs, Sang Yan found her old apartment keys on his passenger seat and decided to return to the shared apartment alone. There, he overheard the men celebrating and the released man expressing regret that he hadn't installed hidden cameras to film Wen Yifan. Hearing this, Sang Yan confronted them to determine if they had actually planted any cameras.
