After Liu Qianshui's departure, Qu Xiaotan finds the guards at her door immobilized and takes the opportunity to escape. Following a map she mentally created from a vision, she locates the cave where Mo Liancheng is being treated but is thrown back by a magical seal at the entrance. A Mo Clan elder harshly dismisses her, but Mo Yifeng promises to notify her the moment Liancheng awakens.

Distraught, Xiaotan returns to her room and is tormented by a dream in which she is the masked figure who kills Liancheng. Desperate to see him, she knocks out a serving granny, dons her clothes as a disguise, and slips out, only to be intercepted by Mo Yifeng. He informs her that Liancheng is awake, and she ecstatically follows him. On the way, she picks a rose, Liancheng's favorite flower, holding on to the memory of a promise between them.

Upon entering Liancheng's room, she is overcome with emotion. However, when she offers him the rose, he has no memory of her and asks if she is his wife, Qu Xiaotan. Heartbroken by her tears, Liancheng proposes a deal: regardless of who he is now, he will allow her to stay by his side.

Liancheng's decision is met with opposition from the clan elders, who cite the generations-long feud between the Qu and Mo clans and the fact that Liancheng is bound to Xiaotan by a Life Bond. With his memories of their time in Dongyue gone, Liancheng often finds Xiaotan's modern manners irritating. When she complains about the elders, he punishes her by making her face a wall to reflect on her misdeeds.

He allows her in for a meal, but when she fondly reminisces about their first meeting where she called him a "sissy," his annoyance returns, and he sends her back to face the wall. Later, Liancheng senses Xiaotan's unique spiritual power and discusses his confusion with Mo Yifeng. Yifeng explains that Xiaotan, now the master of the Soul Bead, loves him unconditionally, unlike the woman from his past, Qu Xiangtan.

Liancheng then finds Xiaotan asleep in an outdoor pavilion, her image stirring a faint, unfamiliar feeling within him. After she wakes, she helps the tired Liancheng back to his room. She intends to wait outside his door, but he insists she sleep in the bed with him, as she is his wife. After some hesitation, she agrees. In bed, he asks her what she said to Mo Yifeng that moved him. Xiaotan recounts her defiant words: that she was only "lending" Liancheng to the clan for his recovery, because he belongs only to her.
