Due to frequent contact with neighbors, he reported the case to the police station at six o'clock after the incident.

The police officer on duty, Shi Leshan, recalled that Zhou Luo was relatively calm when he reported the case. He first made a phone call and then came to the police station accompanied by his parents. His description of the crime scene was basically consistent with Nan Ya's. Soon, the news of Nan Ya killing someone spread throughout Qingshui Town.

The school, considering Zhou Luo was a witness and for his psychological health, advised him to go home and rest first. In addition to finding Xu Yi's body, the police also found a burned car. The cause of the fire was still unclear, but it was initially speculated to have occurred earlier than the time of the homicide. During the site investigation, Lin Fanglu had different opinions from the experienced criminal police officer Lao Chen.
