Serendipity Episode 40 (Ending) Recap
> Serendipity Recap
At that moment, Jian Mingshu was ruthlessly dragged to the court by Prince Yu, who used her as leverage to force Lu Chang into submission. Just when things were on the brink of disaster, Su Tangli presented the tiger tally she had painstakingly obtained. She firmly declared her willingness to exchange the tally for Mingshu’s safety. As Mingshu slowly walked toward Lu Chang, Su Tangli seized the moment and threw the tiger tally box.
What fell from the box turned out to be a relic of Prince Yu’s birth mother. It turned out Su Tangli had cleverly sent the real tiger tally outside the palace long ago. Prince Rui had been standing guard outside the palace, fully prepared. At the same time, the imperial consort Hua was forcefully dragged out by the eunuch. Lu Wenhan appeared solemn and stated that he had come to persuade Prince Rui to surrender.
However, his tone suddenly shifted, and he took out the tiger tally from his robe and solemnly handed it to Prince Rui, urging him to immediately lead troops to save the Emperor. Unfortunately, before he could finish speaking, the eunuch shot him with an arrow in public, killing him on the spot. Prince Rui received the tiger tally and led all his troops into the palace like a fierce tiger descending the mountain.
He and Wei Zhuo stormed into the court with great momentum. At this moment, Prince Yu still refused to accept defeat and attempted to make a final stand. Even the general at his side, seeing that the tide had turned, chose to switch sides—only to be brutally killed by Prince Yu. The other rebels, witnessing their leader’s cruelty, turned to support Prince Rui.
Now alone and despairing, Prince Yu walked sadly toward the throne, intending to end his life with a sword. At that critical moment, Su Tangli secretly shot an arrow to stop his suicide. Prince Yu mistakenly believed she still had feelings for him, but to his shock, Su Tangli ended his life with her own hands, avenging her father. As Prince Yu lay dying, he thought to himself that dying at her hands meant he had no regrets.
But Su Tangli knew deep down that she had fallen in love with the man who had killed her father. Unable to bear the shame, she followed him in death. When Lu Chang learned that Lu Wenhan had been cruelly killed for handing over the tiger tally, he was devastated. He rushed out of the palace to see Lu Wenhan one last time. In that moment, he finally gathered the courage to say the word he had never spoken before—"Father.
"The Emperor lay weak and dying in bed. With fatherly affection, he instructed Prince Rui to bury Prince Yu in the royal tomb, acknowledging their bond as father and son. Before his death, the Emperor earnestly urged him to rule the country well and bring prosperity to the people. Prince Rui ascended the throne smoothly, and Yin Shujun was honored as the empress mother.
Afterwards, Lu Chang volunteered to serve as the magistrate of Jianglin, determined to truly serve the people and improve their lives. He even boldly requested the Emperor to annul the marriage agreement between Lu Mingshu and Song Qingzhao. The Emperor responded that the engagement no longer mattered, as there was no such person as Lu Mingshu in the world. Jian Mingshu decided to leave the bustling capital with Lu Chang to begin a new life.
Everyone came to send them off in a heartwarming scene. At that time, Yin Shujun was also pregnant with the Emperor’s child, and the couple shared deep affection. Lu Chang set up a memorial tablet for Lu Wenhan, expressing his deep guilt and apologizing for all the past misunderstandings. Only now did he realize that, although Lu Wenhan appeared to be protecting himself, he had in fact been secretly helping Prince Rui investigate the matter all along.
Lu Chang had now brought his memorial tablet back to the ancestral hall of the Lu family, so they would never be apart again. Song Qingzhao often wrote letters to Jian Mingshu, but never sent any of them. Rather than writing for her, he was comforting his own wounded heart, hiding his deep feelings for her between the lines.
Two years later, Lu Chang vigorously implemented new policies in Jianglin, providing the people with credit and grain to relieve the suffering caused by natural disasters, earning great love from the people. Jian Mingshu also opened a new branch of Hualang Pavilion in Jianglin and was willing to sell at a loss to contribute what she could for the common people. The next day, Mingshu brought all her belongings to the government office and donated a cart full of grain and supplies to support the implementation of the new policies.
