While Wang Xingde was signing the agreement, Tao Yinghong suddenly felt dizzy and nauseous. During a lecture, she caught a student secretly using a phone and also saw the obscene comments on her daughter’s accident video. Wang Xingde came home carrying groceries, only to be confronted by Tao Yinghong playing their daughter’s ringtone, demanding to know why he hadn’t answered her call. Wracked with pain and guilt, she said they were both accomplices and both murderers.
Determined to uncover the truth, Wang Xingde proposed moving to Jialin. He applied for a job as a bus driver and specifically requested to drive Bus 45. Sadly, less than six months after their daughter’s death, the incident had already faded from public memory. Worried about his wife, Wang Xingde went to the old bus depot. Tao Yinghong, hair hanging loose, told him she had completed her experiment.
Wang Xingde urged her to let go of the past and visit their daughter’s grave with him. But Tao Yinghong could no longer turn back. She agreed to divorce him and let him leave Jialin—if only he would say the word. Li Shiqing still felt the matter wasn’t over. After discussing it with Xiao Heyun, they called their counselor to the hospital. The counselor arrived and told them about Wang Mengmeng’s accident five years ago.
Afterward, the couple never asked the school for anything or caused any trouble. Still, why they tried to die together with a bus full of people was a question the counselor felt should be taken to the police. Devastated by Zhang Cheng’s death, Jiang Feng arrived outside Xiao Heyun’s hospital room and overheard the conversation. Zhang Cheng’s death had cast a heavy shadow over the entire precinct, and suspicion toward Xiao and Li only grew.
But Chief Du remained calm and in control—she insisted they could not jump to conclusions. The news of Wang Mengmeng’s accident had caused a stir on the school’s forum at the time, and the school had ordered the posts removed. Jiang Feng told the counselor to contact the forum admin to restore the posts. Li Shiqing wanted to go along, citing how Zhang Cheng had believed in their report. She hoped Jiang Feng would trust her too.
The counselor took Jiang Feng and Li Shiqing to the school to review forum posts. Following Xiao Heyun’s instructions, the three discovered a post claiming Wang Mengmeng had acted strangely because she had been harassed on the bus. Tracing the location of the post, the counselor retrieved the records for Room 324 in Building 3, and Li Shiqing quickly found information on the girls who had lived there five years ago.
Hearing her colleagues discuss the Bus 45 explosion case, Liu Yao was shocked. But when the counselor, Li Shiqing, and Jiang Feng questioned her, she dodged the topic, pretending to be indifferent. She knew no one could protect her—if even a victim like Wang Mengmeng could be slandered and mocked, exposing herself would only make her a target. No one could help her. Hearing this, Jiang Feng promised her as a police officer that her identity would remain confidential.
With Li Shiqing’s gentle encouragement, Liu Yao finally let down her guard. She admitted she had accidentally taken a photo of a middle-aged man in glasses molesting Wang Mengmeng. But the man noticed her and kept looking back at her. Out of fear of retaliation, she never dared to go to the police.
