Psych-Hunter Episode 4 Recap
> Psych-Hunter Recap
Qin Yiheng pondered the method Jiang Shuo used for his powerful mind-reading, understanding it wasn't just coin-swinging but a psychological suggestion amplified by Dragon Incense acting as sedatives, allowing for a clear connection between two people's dreams with a time limit. His elder brother interrupted his thoughts, bursting into his room without knocking, reminding him, "I'm your older brother." Qin Yiheng retorted, "I, Qin Yiheng, owe you nothing! So, keep that Western culture of yours to yourself!"
citing Confucius on manners and instructing his brother to close the door on his way out. His brother pleaded with him to return to the family company, calling it their father's life's work and lamenting that if Qin Yiheng hadn't left to study Western medicine in England, their father might not have gone missing.
Qin Yiheng, though feeling a pang of guilt, remained firm in his decision, recalling a past argument with his father who had vehemently opposed his choice, saying, "I want to save lives" rather than just making money. Qin Yiheng, despite his internal conflict, knew he had to focus on finding Liu Zhi, the mastermind behind everything. The true culprit, Wang Qian, who had escaped from the hospital, finally confronted Jiang Shuo.
Wang Qian admitted to luring Jiang Shuo out of prison, killing the three hoodlums, and guiding Old Zhang in setting up the feng shui layout. He declared Jiang Shuo the final piece of his plan, whose death would complete his grand formation. Jiang Shuo questioned his motive for such an elaborate setup. Wang Qian revealed his family was under a "vicious curse" where no one lived past forty.
He had tried everything—burning poppy fields (his forefathers' opium business), performing countless charities, Chinese alchemy, and feng shui—but his wife still died. He then recounted meeting a masked "expert" on a mountain who told him only six feng shui formations could break the curse and gave him an elixir to fake his death, guiding him to set up the entire scheme. Jiang Shuo immediately realized this "expert" was Liu Zhi.
Wang Qian confirmed it, stating Liu Zhi’s guidance was his only chance to live, and that today was the last day of his thirty-ninth year. Jiang Shuo understood that he, Old Zhang, and all the victims were merely sacrifices for Wang Qian's survival. As Wang Qian prepared for the final ritual, Qin Yiheng arrived and shot him in the leg, saving Jiang Shuo once more.
Qin Yiheng then demanded to know Liu Zhi's whereabouts from Wang Qian, who, in a delusional state, declared he was not dead. Suddenly, Liu Zhi's voice echoed from within the cave, stating Wang Qian did not know his location. Liu Zhi congratulated Jiang Shuo for passing the "first test," confirming he was the one "plotting against" them.
He announced that he knew Jiang Shuo wanted to uncover his past and Qin Yiheng sought the whereabouts of a certain person, offering them answers if they continued his game, with Jiang Shuo's life and the lives of others as the "bet." Soon after, the police arrived and arrested Wang Qian. At the Changshanzhou Police Station, Officer Bai Kai presented irrefutable evidence.
He then informed Wang Qian that the family's "curse" was not supernatural but caused by the Shou Shan stone they had worshipped for generations, which emitted a poisonous fog, citing a previous case in a village where people died after carving similar stones. Wang Qian, however, remained in denial, fiercely insisting it was a curse, not the stone. Later, outside the police station, Qin Yiheng advised Jiang Shuo to stop his house trading business to avoid Liu Zhi's manipulations.
Jiang Shuo, acknowledging Qin Yiheng had saved his life twice, offered to prioritize him for future good property deals, but declared he could handle Liu Zhi and would "catch him and make him compensate me." He then playfully suggested calling Qin Yiheng "Qin Er," and asked why he wore glasses if he wasn't nearsighted, to which Qin Yiheng curtly replied it was "none of your business."
That evening, Yuan Muqing, thinking Qin Yiheng had saved her at the hospital, came to Jiang Shuo's courtyard to deliver a pocket watch as a thank-you gift for her savior. Jiang Shuo, misinterpreting her intentions, gleefully accepted the gift, thinking it was for him. Inside the watch, he found a note inviting her "savior" to meet at the amusement park fountain at 3 PM the next day.
Excited, Jiang Shuo spent the next morning getting dressed up for the supposed date. Meanwhile, Qin Yiheng returned to the hospital and received a mysterious letter, addressed to "Mr Qin Yi Heng" but with no sender explicitly stated. Inside was a photograph of several individuals, including Jiang Shuo, Wang Qian, and Old Zhang, all of whom Qin Yiheng recognized. Disturbed, Qin Yiheng sought out Master Bu Yan, discussing his suspicions.
He pointed out the odd timing of Jiang Shuo's appearance in Changshanzhou a year ago, shortly after his own father and Master Bu Yan's daughter went missing. He suspected Jiang Shuo was connected to the disappearances, noting that all missing persons had received invitations bearing a distinctive six-finger mark—Liu Zhi's signature.
While Jiang Shuo's amnesia seemed genuine, Qin Yiheng believed his extraordinarily powerful mind-reading ability was the real reason Liu Zhi was interested in him, making Jiang Shuo their only lead. They resolved to watch over Jiang Shuo to ensure his safety and await Liu Zhi's next move. Later, Yuan Muqing, after rushing home from work (ignoring her police chief's complaints), bought new red shoes for Xiao Yu, her butler's daughter, before heading to her date.
Xiao Yu, who was jokingly teased by Yuan Muqing (about Yuan Muqing having a date with "Dr Qin" and having strawberry-colored cheeks), secretly followed her. At the amusement park, Jiang Shuo, awaiting his date, was approached by a clown who handed him a flower with a note: "New business on the way. The game between us shall continue." Recognizing Liu Zhi's message, Jiang Shuo tried to pursue the clown, who merely stated a masked man paid him.
Moments later, a woman named Xin'er approached Jiang Shuo, saying she was introduced by someone to sell her house. Jiang Shuo immediately connected her to Liu Zhi, asking if the introducer was masked. Yuan Muqing, having waited alone for a long time, discovered Xiao Yu following her. She bought Xiao Yu a lollipop and instructed her to wait on a bench. However, when Yuan Muqing turned back, Xiao Yu was gone.
Distraught, Yuan Muqing reported to the police, then rushed to her father, Yuan Zhen, a general, who was in the midst of ordering the execution of a corrupt officer. Although initially hesitant to use his military for personal matters, Yuan Zhen, upon learning of his butler's daughter's kidnapping (via a phone call), covertly contacted an old associate for help. Simultaneously, Officer Bai Kai received a ransom call regarding Xiao Yu. Police and Yuan Zhen's men converged on the kidnappers.
In the ensuing chaos, the male kidnapper, Bin, was shot and leaped into a river, escaping. The female kidnapper also jumped but was captured and taken to Changshanzhou Hospital. The doctor explained she suffered a brain injury from the water pressure, resulting in temporary amnesia. At the same time, Jiang Shuo, still at the amusement park waiting for his date, expressed frustration about "troublesome women." Qin Yiheng, watching from afar, offered a faint smile.
Called to the hospital by Yuan Muqing, Qin Yiheng suggested to Officer Bai Kai and Yuan Muqing that Jiang Shuo use his mind-reading to stimulate the female kidnapper's memory, as Xiao Yu's life was at stake. Jiang Shuo initially tried to negotiate payment, but upon seeing Yuan Muqing, immediately changed his tune and agreed to help. In the hospital room, Jiang Shuo recognized the female kidnapper as Xin'er, the woman from the amusement park who wanted to sell her house.
Qin Yiheng, observing Jiang Shuo's reaction, realized this incident was another move by Liu Zhi. Qin Yiheng provided Jiang Shuo with photos of the crime scene, proposing they enter Xin'er's "Psych" together to find clues, a strategy Jiang Shuo dismissed as unnecessary, though he reassured Yuan Muqing he would handle it.
