Psych-Hunter Episode 16 Recap
> Psych-Hunter Recap
Jiang Shuo, still trapped in what he believed to be a prison, suddenly shouted that he was guilty. Dr Sun immediately had him escorted out of his cell. Jiang Shuo then claimed that he felt agitated and couldn't quite remember the details of his supposed crime. After some consideration, Dr Sun assigned him to manual labor, specifically washing clothes. While there, someone secretly slipped Jiang Shuo a note with the single word "Run" written in red.
Jiang Shuo's thoughts immediately turned to Qin Yiheng, but realizing there were too many people around, he feigned a sudden collapse. He woke up in the sickroom and overheard Dr Sun and the Warden discussing his condition, believing he suffered from food poisoning and exhaustion. Once they left, Jiang Shuo slipped away to the archive room. Inside, he found a map of the Yin River but no record of Qin Yiheng.
However, he did find an empty file for Liu Zhi, labeled "Room B." Suddenly, alarms blared throughout the facility, forcing Jiang Shuo to flee, only to find himself locked back in his cell. The person in the cell opposite, whom Jiang Shuo suspected to be Liu Zhi, once again spoke to him, offering a key and challenging him to open the door to uncover the truth.
Jiang Shuo took the key and opened his cell, then the opposite cell, "Room B," where he was stunned to find Qin Yiheng. Jiang Shuo questioned Qin Yiheng's presence and the absence of his name in the archives, and noted that Room B was Liu Zhi's ward. Qin Yiheng remained silent but urged Jiang Shuo to escape with him. As they neared the exit, Qin Yiheng unexpectedly turned and stabbed Jiang Shuo.
Jiang Shuo awoke, finding himself not dead, but back in the same room with Dr Sun and a masked man. The time had not changed. He finally understood everything: the prison, Dr Sun, and the Warden were all illusions. This entire construct was his own Psych, and the masked man before him was the real Liu Zhi.
Jiang Shuo realized that if he were to confess to a crime he didn't commit, he would be forever trapped in this mental prison, unable to awaken in reality. Liu Zhi confirmed Jiang Shuo's deduction, admitting his identity. He explained that in dreams, critical thinking diminishes, making people overlook inconsistencies unless a strong psychological anchor, like Jiang Shuo's lost coins, is present. Liu Zhi asserted that Jiang Shuo knew his purpose, and that they were "the same kind of person."
Jiang Shuo vehemently denied this, stating he would never harm innocent people. Liu Zhi countered, claiming that those on the island were all sinners, rich and powerful but not innocent, and that he merely provided them with choices, doing nothing himself. Jiang Shuo, calling Liu Zhi a madman, argued that everyone's fate should be their own.
Liu Zhi dismissed Jiang Shuo as a "hypocrite," insisting that his existence would only cause more suffering and that he belonged confined in his Psych forever, never to wake up. Refusing to be fooled or controlled, Jiang Shuo declared that this was his Psych, where Liu Zhi could not do as he pleased.
Liu Zhi retorted that Jiang Shuo was no match for him and, despite Jiang Shuo's defiant vow to capture him, accepted the challenge, stating he wanted Jiang Shuo to "lose everything" this time. Liu Zhi then trapped Jiang Shuo in a "Rubik's Cube Space," instructing him to solve all the riddles within to find him, and hinting that clues for each game would be found there, including "Yin River."
Jiang Shuo then truly awoke, finding himself in bed with Qin Yiheng and Master Bu Yan watching over him. Master Bu Yan informed him he had been unconscious for three days and three nights. Jiang Shuo, wanting to speak with Qin Yiheng privately, asked Master Bu Yan to get him some food. He then told Qin Yiheng that he had remembered seeing Qin Yiheng's father and Master Bu Yan's daughter, Zhao Ling, on the island a year ago.
Qin Yiheng confirmed that his plan to trigger Jiang Shuo's memories had worked. He revealed that he had found his father's diary, which detailed how Liu Zhi had forced people to kill each other on the island. Qin Yiheng's father, Qin Yi, and Zhao Ling had hidden and eventually encountered a masked man who identified himself as Jiang Shuo, but refused to obey Liu Zhi and instead helped them escape. Qin Yiheng assured Jiang Shuo that Yuan Muqing was safe.
He further explained that, inspired by the diary, he had found a mask and pretended to betray Jiang Shuo by wearing it to stimulate Jiang Shuo's memories of Liu Zhi. He had also faked his own disappearance to secretly protect Jiang Shuo and Yuan Muqing, anticipating an attack from Feng Miao Xuan and Takeuchi.
Qin Yiheng recounted saving Jiang Shuo and Yuan Muqing from the fire, having discovered a secret passage by noticing burn marks similar to those described in his father's diary from a year prior. While exploring the passage, he found traces of other survivors, including three handprints: one belonging to his father, Qin Yi, one to Zhao Ling, and one, he had discovered by comparing, to Jiang Shuo himself.
Jiang Shuo recalled waking up in a mirror-filled room and seeing Qin Yiheng there. At that moment, a voice, which belonged to the News Agency President, confirmed that Jiang Shuo was indeed the masked man from a year ago, accusing him of harming everyone, including Qin Yiheng's father. The President tried to instigate Qin Yiheng to kill Jiang Shuo for revenge and escape the island. Yuan Muqing, however, warned them not to fall into the President's trap.
Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng then feigned a fight, pretending to fall for the President's manipulation. The President, appearing surprised by their supposed trickery, praised Jiang Shuo as "Liu Zhi's chosen one" and offered his help, reminding them that only one person could survive the game. Qin Yiheng accused the President of orchestrating the entire scheme for Jiang Shuo to kill them all.
The President, dismissive, called it "fate" and declared his intention for Qin Yiheng to die that day to "fulfill" Jiang Shuo's destiny. Qin Yiheng confessed that his elaborate plan had failed to capture Liu Zhi, and he, Yuan Muqing, and Jiang Shuo offered to spare the President if he revealed Liu Zhi's identity. Realizing he had been tricked by their performance, the President decided to fight them.
During the ensuing struggle, Sergeant Bai appeared and shot the President, but Jiang Shuo was afflicted by the President's mind-reading ability, trapping him in his Psych for three days. Qin Yiheng then returned Jiang Shuo's lost coins, explaining that the deceased President had stolen them after Jiang Shuo fainted.
Jiang Shuo recounted his three days in the Psych, describing his "dream" as his mind's inner space, where Liu Zhi, his master, had used mind-reading to convey a message: "A new game has started; find Yin River, find Liu Zhi." Just then, Sergeant Bai arrived at the courtyard with his men. He announced that General Yuan had ordered Jiang Shuo's arrest for interrogation, as Yuan Muqing had been injured by Liu Zhi, and Jiang Shuo was considered a related party.
Master Bu Yan quickly ushered Jiang Shuo into hiding, then, with Qin Yiheng's help, tried to stall Sergeant Bai, claiming Jiang Shuo was not present and offering to take him to the General when he returned. Qin Yiheng further supported the ruse, stating his clinic was in the courtyard and he was simply having tea with Master Bu Yan. Sergeant Bai, growing impatient, warned that if they continued to obstruct him, he would resort to military action.
