Our Interpreter Episode 1 Recap
> Our Interpreter Recap
As a very capable translator, Lin Xi was carrying out her translation work in an orderly manner. Normal interpreters could only reach five or six minutes after training, while Lin Xi could achieve over ten minutes of translation time. People called Lin Xi the zero-error translator. She had worked at Hua Sheng for a long time. Lin Xi and her colleagues left after attending the foundation event. She was going to wrap up Ling Feng's mess.
Sitting in the car, Lin Xi saw the company she was about to face, Yuyi Tianxia Technology, whose founder was Xiao Yicheng. She stared at the name for a long time, and Xiao Yicheng was also waiting for Lin Xi's arrival. Xiao Yicheng chose to take the risk and cooperate with Hua Sheng, just to see if Lin Xi would regret it after eight years.
When Lin Xi saw Xiao Yicheng, she proactively extended her hand to shake his, but Xiao Yicheng had no intention of shaking her hand. He called his assistant Maomao, who introduced their product for this occasion to Lin Xi. Xiao Yicheng asked Lin Xi that if his product could be foolproof, what advantage did Lin Xi have to consider herself superior?
Lin Xi told him that if they were both machines, then there would be no emotion, and certainly no errors, but she could express everything they wanted to present with emotion. Xiao Yicheng asked Lin Xi another question, and Lin Xi answered his question. Xiao Yicheng was clearly very satisfied with her answer, and he initiated a handshake with Lin Xi. Lin Xi's old problem recurred; she would keep hiccupping whenever she got nervous. Xiao Yicheng knew about her problem.
He poured Lin Xi a glass of water and told her a friend had previously told him that drinking water while bowing could suppress hiccups. Lin Xi initially refused, but her colleague told her to give it a try, as the conference was about to start. Lin Xi had no choice but to do as told, and indeed, the hiccups stopped. Manager Zhang brought Lin Xi to Tan Shasha.
He asked the two of them to work together for this conference. Tan Shasha, being Lin Xi's cousin, asked Lin Xi why she wasn't looking at some of the professional terms involved in this conference first. Lin Xi told her that she didn't fight battles without preparation, and it was about to start, so she shouldn't discuss these things with her anymore. Yuyi Technology's new product launch conference began. Xiao Yicheng, as the product's founder, took the stage to speak.
On stage, Xiao Yicheng confidently spoke in Chinese, introducing his product, while backstage, Lin Xi used her professional skills to translate what he said. It was time for the journalist Q&A session. Someone asked if he had gone through a dark phase during his entrepreneurial journey and how he overcame it. Xiao Yicheng told them to endure the darkness and cut off their retreat. Another journalist suggested a comparison between human and machine translation.
Xiao Yicheng looked at Lin Xi in the simultaneous interpretation booth opposite and agreed. Through this small comparison, some people thought machine translation was faster, while others believed Lin Xi's translation was more elegant. Xiao Yicheng wanted to end with two of his favorite ancient poems. The audience below the stage started discussing among themselves; they knew that many famous translators in the field had stumbled because of such poetry.
They all saw that Xiao Yicheng intended to make things difficult for Lin Xi, but Lin Xi, relying on her exceptional ability, produced translations that made everyone applaud for her. After it ended, Tan Shasha apologized to Lin Xi. She felt that her worry about Lin Xi dragging them down earlier was unnecessary. Manager Zhang arranged for Tan Shasha to go to the Key Accounts Department.
He introduced Wei Tian and Chen Wen to her, saying they would be colleagues from now on. Manager Zhang invited Lin Xi, Xiao Yicheng, and others to dinner. Lin Xi kept looking at her phone to ease the awkwardness. Unexpectedly, Tan Shasha walked by from behind and said, "Your phone's out of power, what are you still looking at? " This made Lin Xi even more awkward.
Manager Tong saw Lin Xi and praised her for doing a very good job. Lin Xi asked her if the payment date could be shortened since she did a good job. Manager Tong had just agreed when Xiao Yicheng told her everything should follow the contract. Manager Tong told him that she had already agreed. Xiao Yicheng found out that Lin Xi had a stomach ache. He said he didn't care, but secretly told the waiter to remove the chili from the boiled fish slices.
