Zhigang finds Zhang Xiaoman and brings up Yu Qiangbei’s intent to acquire the plant, noting that Xia Lei’s sudden interference has disrupted the entire plan. Zhigang warns that Xia Lei is blocking everyone's road to wealth and urges Zhang Xiaoman to talk his friend out of it. When Zhang Xiaoman finds Xia Lei later, Xia Lei explains that he has been caught in a complex trap, leaving him in a precarious position where he is misunderstood by those around him.

That evening, the friends gather for hotpot. Encouraged by Zhigang, Shi Dongming brings alcohol and tries to coax information out of Xia Lei. He initially praises Xia Lei as a hero for the buyout, hoping it means job security for everyone. However, the atmosphere sours when Xia Lei admits he doesn't call the shots and urges his old friends to look beyond the East Chemical Plant rather than waiting for others to feed them.

This remark deeply offends those who take pride in their work and their hometown, feeling looked down upon for staying. Shi Dongming storms out, accusing Xia Lei of prioritizing his corporate salary over the survival of his own people. Zhang Xiaoman also clashes with Xia Lei, arguing that he has no right to look down on those who stayed behind, as they are the ones who built the foundation of the world Xia Lei now inhabits.

The next morning, Zhang Xiaoman finds Ye Chunchun planting lilies in the yard. Despite the harsh Northeast winter, she explains that as long as the roots are protected, the flowers will bloom again. This conversation strikes a chord with Zhang Xiaoman, making him realize that the factory represents the roots of their entire community. Ye Chunchun comforts him, suggesting that as long as they don't forget where they came from, their roots will always remain.

The tension escalates when a formal notice about relocating the entire factory to Yingkou is posted on the bulletin board. Zhuang Sen quickly tears it down, desperate to hide the news from the fragile Yan Wenyuan. Mrs. Yan is equally anxious, fearing that her husband’s improving memory and health might suffer a setback if he hears the news, so she strictly forbids Yan Xiaodan from mentioning it. Despite their efforts, hostility toward Xia Lei grows.

A brick is thrown through the Xia family's window at night. Xia Lei tries to arrange for his parents to stay in a hotel for safety, but they stubbornly refuse to be driven out of their home. Ye Chunchun stops Zhang Xiaoman from rushing to help immediately, believing that Xia Lei needs to understand the weight of being alienated from his community.

Shi Dongming continues to spread rumors that Xia Lei is an ingrate who only cares about his salary, leading to a heated argument with Zhang Xiaoman. Even Xia Lei's father, Xia Limin, brands his son an ingrate for not confiding in them. However, young Dongdong remains steadfast in his belief that Xia Lei would never intentionally harm his own family.

Xia Lei meets with Director Song and learns that the rival bidder, Yu Qiangbei, is planning a deceptive scheme involving pre-sale housing and advance rent that would likely ruin the workers' futures. Director Song compares the factory to a fallen old horse that outsiders are eager to butcher for profit, and he expresses his hope that someone who truly loves the East Chemical Plant will save it.

Witnessing Yan Wenyuan and other retired technicians working tirelessly to repair old machinery for him, Xia Lei is deeply moved and resolves to rescue the factory himself. Xia Lei returns to Shanghai and confronts Kong Peng, realizing he was being used as a scapegoat for the company's unauthorized actions and unauthorized price hikes. Rejecting Kong Peng’s cynical view that the factory is worthless, Xia Lei submits his resignation, choosing to become a lone wolf to save Factory No. 3.

Back in Tiecheng, he shares his resignation with Zhang Xiaoman, Ye Chunchun, and Yan Xiaodan, and they all pledge their full support for his mission. When Zhuang Sen's son accidentally lets the relocation news slip to Yan Wenyuan, the old man's condition worsens, and he becomes withdrawn. To save his spirit, the group organizes a "Yesterday Once More" plan to make him believe the factory is still fully operational.

Zhuang Sen coordinates with other retired workers to recreate a bustling work environment, even having his son pretend to be a new engineer. Yan Wenyuan begins carrying his briefcase to the office every day, and his state of mind improves as he resumes his role as Chief Engineer, demanding logbooks and checking safety valves on the reactors. The retired workers, finding renewed purpose in these staged roles, become even more energetic than anticipated.

While sorting through his belongings, Xia Lei finds a business card from Eight and realizes the factory could transition into the lithium battery industry. He proposes repurposing the existing chemical production lines and environmental systems to manufacture lithium battery electrolytes, which he calls the blood of new energy vehicles. He begins pitching this plan to investors like Mr. Li, emphasizing the huge market potential and the factory's existing infrastructure advantages. His efforts begin to show results, and he gains the attention and appreciation of some investors.
