Ordinary Glory Episode 4 Recap
> Ordinary Glory Recap
Despite his recent difficulties, Sun Yiqiu returned to the company for the intern training, much to the surprise of his colleagues who had expected him to quit. Lan Qianyi, however, seemed pleased to see him. Yu Wenli, the general manager of the TMT Department, led the training, explaining that the session would be live-streamed internally and that performance would factor into their final assessment.
She asked each intern to share their strengths, adding a rule that each speaker must first recap the strengths of those who spoke before them. Gao Sicong was the first to present, highlighting his impressive academic background, including a bachelor-master degree in finance from Fudan University, proficiency in Japanese and English, and experience as a guest writer for the China Internet Finance Summit and a three-year study period at Columbia University.
Zeng Hao followed, diligently recounting Gao Sicong's achievements before humbly stating his own strengths: diligence, honesty, and tenacity, mentioning his postgraduate studies from SWUFE and his origins in a mountain village in Guizhou. Li Xiaoxian then took the stage, quickly summarizing the preceding interns' points before declaring his own strengths as simply "talented and handsome," which prompted Yu Wenli to sharply criticize his "clever" act of labeling people.
Lan Qianyi, in her turn, precisely reiterated the strengths of her peers before stating that her own strength was not caring if she had any. Finally, it was Sun Yiqiu's turn. Lin Yuming watched intently from his computer. Sun Yiqiu nervously began by summarizing the strengths of his colleagues from his own perspective—seeing Gao Sicong as reliable, Zeng Hao as friendly and patient, others as outstanding and motivating, and Lan Qianyi as prideful yet helpful and honest.
He then introduced himself, explaining that his name, "Yi Qiu," implied a need to be focused and committed. He honestly revealed his background: 26 years old, never attended university, worked as a deliveryman, waiter, and driver, with no resources, background, or connections. He admitted he still didn't understand how he got into the company and wanted to clarify any misunderstandings.
When asked about his strengths, Sun Yiqiu argued that the question itself was flawed, as one's strengths depend entirely on whether they are needed by others. Yu Wenli was unexpectedly impressed by his answer, noting that he displayed the qualities of a professional investment consultant who remains calm and uninfluenced by surface information. Later, Lin Yuming suggested to Wu Kezhi that they shouldn't be too harsh on Sun Yiqiu, but Wu Kezhi responded that they shouldn't give him hope.
Sun Yiqiu later sought Zeng Hao's help to verify some unclear data points. Zeng Hao initially seemed to ignore him but eventually helped clarify the operating cash flow and cash flow from financing. Sun Yiqiu, grateful, apologized for any past misunderstandings and asked if they could be friends. Zeng Hao, in a characteristic manner, stated he had no friends. Sun Yiqiu also approached Wu Kezhi to apologize for a previous report.
Wu Kezhi told him there was no need to apologize for doing nothing wrong, only for being in the wrong place. He reiterated that he would not give Sun Yiqiu hope, stressing that "fake hope is the biggest trap in this world." He warned Sun Yiqiu that once his training was over, he wouldn't let him stay, urging him to leave with pride. Sun Yiqiu, however, declared that "nobody knows the result until the end of the game."
The next day, Sun Yiqiu was jostled out of the elevator by Li Xiaoxian, but Gao Sicong quickly led him to another elevator. Meanwhile, Director Qu inquired about Team IV's "Somersault Cloud" project to Manager Ma, who expressed skepticism, pointing out the major technical challenge of battery charging in bike-sharing services. Team IV was short-staffed, and while other teams had interns actively working, Sun Yiqiu felt unproductive. Lin Yuming assigned him the basic task of printing contracts.
While reviewing them, Sun Yiqiu discovered subtle yet critical differences: one copy included phrases like "in principle" and "strive to" in crucial clauses, which would render the original conditions useless. He immediately brought this to Wu Kezhi's attention. Recognizing the severity of the error, Wu Kezhi instructed Lin Yuming to verify the contracts with Sun Yiqiu. After confirmation, Wu Kezhi called President Qiao, using the ambiguous phrases to address the discrepancy, then ordered the contracts revised and reprinted.
He later told Lin Yuming that he should be grateful to Sun Yiqiu, as this oversight could have cost him his job. Sun Yiqiu went to the copy room with the corrected documents and noticed Zeng Hao looking unwell. Zeng Hao mentioned skipping breakfast and possibly having low blood sugar. Sun Yiqiu, leaving his own documents unattended, quickly went to get him some food.
Zeng Hao, feeling weak, inadvertently picked up one of Sun Yiqiu's documents by mistake and later dropped it in the lobby. Upon returning, Gao Sicong cautioned Sun Yiqiu never to leave documents unattended, as it could be treated as a security breach. Soon after, Director Qu arrived at Team IV's office, holding the document he had found in the lobby. Sun Yiqiu immediately tried to apologize, but Wu Kezhi angrily silenced him.
After Director Qu left, Lin Yuming expressed his deep disappointment, while Wu Kezhi erupted in a furious outburst, shouting that this was precisely why Sun Yiqiu did not deserve a chance and ordering him to leave Team IV immediately. Lin Yuming quickly led Sun Yiqiu away. Later, as Wu Kezhi calmed down, he noticed food stains on the recovered document. He recalled Sun Yiqiu earlier asking Lin Yuming for food for Zeng Hao, who was experiencing low blood sugar.
Wu Kezhi went to confront Zeng Hao, who remained silent as Wu Kezhi held the document. However, upon learning that Zeng Hao had a one-month-old baby, Wu Kezhi softened, tucking the document away, understanding the pressures of supporting a family. That evening, during a team dinner, a visibly drunk Zhou Qingyu made several indirect jabs at Wu Kezhi's lack of career progression, calling him childish.
He then urged Sun Yiqiu, who hadn't been drinking, to toast Zeng Hao for his help. Before Sun Yiqiu could pour a drink, Wu Kezhi intervened, asserting that Zeng Hao should be the one apologizing to Sun Yiqiu, as Sun Yiqiu had taken the blame for Zeng Hao's mistake that day.
Zhou Qingyu and Wu Kezhi’s argument escalated, with Zhou Qingyu accusing Wu Kezhi of bullying his intern and being jealous of his own promotion, suggesting the stains could have come from Wu Kezhi's team. Wu Kezhi vehemently defended Sun Yiqiu, declaring, "I won't allow you to bully my team member!" Lin Yuming and Sun Yiqiu had to pull Wu Kezhi away. Zeng Hao later approached Sun Yiqiu to sincerely apologize, admitting his cowardice for not standing up and taking responsibility.
Sun Yiqiu, however, acknowledged that he too had made a mistake first. Zeng Hao then asked if they were still friends. Wu Kezhi, witnessing Zeng Hao's confession, was pleased. He advised Zeng Hao to always take responsibility and remain honest, regardless of life changes, stressing that true happiness comes from living honestly. The following day, Wu Kezhi questioned Sun Yiqiu about taking the blame, knowing he hadn't been in the lobby.
Sun Yiqiu, while continuing an exercise Wu Kezhi had assigned him, confessed that he was indeed the one who lost the document, and regardless of how it happened, he felt he should take responsibility. Recalling Wu Kezhi's impassioned words the night before—"our Yiqiu" and "my team member"—Sun Yiqiu finally felt a profound sense of belonging. He realized he was no longer alone; he was Sun Yiqiu of Team IV.
