Ordinary Glory Episode 30 Recap
> Ordinary Glory Recap
Sun Yiqiu, representing Integrated Team IV, attempted to propose a collaboration to Director Zhou, even presenting slides. However, Director Zhou curtly asked what right he had to discuss collaboration and quickly dismissed him, stating he was busy and would consider King Capital if he ever needed funds. Wu Kezhi, Lin Yuming, and Ding Libo saw Sun Yiqiu return to the office, noting from his expression that his meeting had not gone well.
Lin Yuming had been wondering about Sun Yiqiu's well-being and whether Wu Kezhi would be able to keep him if he secured a major project. They acknowledged that rejection was common for newcomers. Even late into the evening, Sun Yiqiu continued to work diligently. Hao Shuai, working late, called Manager Yin to inform him that the document for the next day was complete and offered to have him check it.
Manager Yin, however, told Hao Shuai to simply save it and go home, declining to review it. Feeling provoked, Hao Shuai made a decision. The following morning, when Chief Su and Manager Yin were frantically searching for the missing document, Hao Shuai arrived with a thumb drive. He explained that a system problem prevented him from saving it on his computer, so he used the drive. Chief Su, frustrated, questioned Manager Yin's absence the previous night.
Manager Yin claimed he was forced to entertain a client who insisted on drinking. While Hao Shuai offered to share the blame, Chief Su revealed that the client had fortunately canceled the meeting. Chief Su then unexpectedly lectured Manager Yin about his drinking habits and neglecting his health. Then, turning to Hao Shuai, he harshly reprimanded him for being late and irresponsible with crucial company work.
Sun Yiqiu dedicated himself to finding projects, constantly out meeting potential clients, often too busy to even eat. Lin Yuming observed Sun Yiqiu skipping lunch to prepare materials for more company visits, noting that he was acting like a salesman and seemed unable to grasp that hard work alone wouldn't secure an opportunity. Both Lin Yuming and Wu Kezhi were troubled by his struggles.
Lin Yuming suggested they offer assistance by using his personal list of company founders he knew, though he conceded that Team IV hadn't accumulated many valuable connections over the years. Ding Libo, however, dismissed the idea, asserting that such connections wouldn't trust a rookie like Sun Yiqiu anyway.
He explained that Sun Yiqiu needed a project with guaranteed success, but such projects were beyond their reach in Team IV, and there was no reason the company's higher-ups would intervene to help. Determined to find a solution, Ding Libo went to speak with Director Qu, requesting company assistance for Sun Yiqiu, whom he considered "pretty good." Director Qu, however, sharply reminded Ding Libo that Team IV's very existence was thanks to his past intervention to help Wu Kezhi.
He then assured Ding Libo that his own future was not confined to Team IV and advised him to leave "HR matters to the management," promising a careful assessment of every employee. The Energy Division was preparing for a meeting with Youwei Capital. Manager Ma instructed his team, particularly Xu Taiping, to be focused. Lan Qianyi, sensing Manager Ma's wariness, excused herself to go home.
During the meeting, when Mr. Henry, the French representative, arrived, Xu Taiping struggled to communicate in French. Manager Zhao attempted to awkwardly translate for him before finally calling Lan Qianyi for urgent assistance. Wu Kezhi found Sun Yiqiu still working late and took him to the rooftop, asking what he had said to him previously in that same spot.
Sun Yiqiu reminded him that after he asked if an independently approved project would lead to a contract renewal, Wu Kezhi had simply "thrown up." However, Sun Yiqiu clarified that his current resolve stemmed from Wu Kezhi's words "before" he got sick: "You must only make decisions you'll never regret" and to "live with dignity, never leave any regrets for yourself."
Sun Yiqiu explained that he was doing his utmost until the very end to ensure he wouldn't have any regrets. Wu Kezhi then pressed him, asking why he was trying so desperately to stay. Sun Yiqiu revealed that he initially joined King Capital to fulfill his mother's wish for him to have a more comfortable job and to avoid disappointing her.
Over time, his motivation shifted to not wanting to be a "mediocre person" who was "ridiculed and looked down on forever," hoping hard work could change his life. Now, his objective was simpler: to remain at the company and work alongside his team. He then asked Wu Kezhi if he believed there was still "a little hope" for him. Wu Kezhi responded with a smile. Lan Qianyi rushed back to the company to assist with the meeting.
She was stunned to find that the person in charge of the China-Europe logistics project for Youwei Capital was her ex-boyfriend, Chen Zhan. Memories of their past relationship flooded her mind. She recalled being an assistant analyst while Chen Zhan, a star investor, was the youngest Vice President at their previous company.
She often felt scrutinized and disrespected by colleagues due to their relationship, a sentiment she voiced to Chen Zhan, who dismissed it as jealousy and assured her their open relationship wasn't against company rules. Lan Qianyi, however, felt he was too high up to understand her predicament. Chen Zhan had then suggested she resign if she was "tired of all this," promising to provide her with an "enviable life."
Back in the present, Lan Qianyi's distraction caused her to falter during a crucial translation of Mr. Henry's remarks to Manager Ma. Chen Zhan quickly stepped in, smoothly explaining the points and saving her from embarrassment. After the meeting, colleagues noted that Chen Zhan had covered for her. Manager Ma expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached with Chen Zhan.
Sun Yiqiu felt increasingly disheartened by his lack of progress in securing projects, fearing he might soon have to leave the company. Meanwhile, Manager Yin instructed Hao Shuai to create slides for Chief Su and email them directly, effectively sidelining him from a client meeting despite Hao Shuai having initiated the project, found the founder, and prepared all the necessary materials and gifts. Furious at being excluded, Hao Shuai vented his frustration.
Shortly after, a man named Ye Nongzhou approached Hao Shuai with a torn business card, inquiring about "Manager Sun." Hao Shuai led Ye Nongzhou to the office lounge. Sun Yiqiu returned, visibly weary from another unproductive day. Ding Libo offered him advice, explaining that successful collaborations in investment require mutual willingness, and desperation makes a fair deal impossible. Sun Yiqiu asked if there were alternative ways to find company founders beyond his current method of cold calls.
Lin Yuming then informed Sun Yiqiu that Hao Shuai was looking for him in the lounge, where he had drawn a crowd. Sun Yiqiu found Hao Shuai engaged in a video game, repeatedly losing to Ye Nongzhou.
Ye Nongzhou then introduced himself to Sun Yiqiu as the founder of Thunder Fire Studio and the creator of "Justice Online," a PC game a hundred-person team had developed over four years, aiming to create a breathing "Wuxia universe" that only needed one final funding round for its Beta phase.
When Sun Yiqiu asked how he found him, Ye Nongzhou explained he had encountered Sun Yiqiu several times at various financial centers across Shanghai, realizing they were both diligently searching for investments and projects, respectively, suggesting their meeting was fate. Lin Yuming, finding the project unreliable, interrupted and sent Ye Nongzhou away, stating that Sun Yiqiu had other engagements.
Aware that Team IV didn't handle online games, Ye Nongzhou then asked Sun Yiqiu to introduce him to a colleague who specialized in such projects, leaving Sun Yiqiu feeling conflicted. Lan Qianyi found herself repeatedly distracted at work following her encounter with Chen Zhan. Manager Zhao, noticing her state, approached her sternly. He told her that he didn't care about her reasons for being distracted, attributing it to her simply "not being on form."
He urged her to "pull herself together" and "not imagine things," emphasizing that their collaboration with Youwei Capital would involve multiple meetings. Sun Yiqiu brought Ye Nongzhou to meet Manager Jiang Nan to discuss the "Justice Online" project. Gao Sicong immediately expressed his annoyance, questioning why Sun Yiqiu was passing on any gaming project to their team, deeming it a waste of Manager Jiang Nan's valuable time.
However, Jiang Nan surprisingly intervened, noting that Ye Nongzhou "looks sincere" and suggesting it "might be worth a try." He then asked Sun Yiqiu for a favor, as he was running late, implying he should introduce Ye Nongzhou. After Sun Yiqiu left, Ye Nongzhou passionately presented his vision to Jiang Nan.
He acknowledged the popularity of mobile games but argued that PC games, particularly Wuxia-themed ones, offered a completely different level of immersion and engagement, asserting that they were merely in a "deep slumber." He believed that the "Wuxia dream of the Chinese ethnic has been there for generations," and players needed someone to awaken it, a role he believed he could fulfill. Impressed, Jiang Nan then instructed a surprised Gao Sicong to stay, listen to Ye Nongzhou's detailed presentation, and "submit a report on 'Justice Online' before you go home."
