Only Side by Side with You Episode 5 Recap

Holding the army knife he once gave to Shi Yue, Chang Jianxiong secretly entered Shi Yue’s office and fell into a memory. He recalled Nan Qiao visiting him at the military academy, Blue Sky Blade, before she went abroad. Nan Qiao expressed her deep interest in drone research, explaining that if she were to pursue it, she wanted to do it at the highest level, which was why she chose to study overseas.
She mentioned that the ideas he had given her, particularly those found in some documents, had greatly inspired her. Chang Jianxiong remembered Shi Yue, then known as Shi Junqing, translating a German research paper on drones, which he described as being in a "very, very top secret file archive." Wanting to impress Nan Qiao, Chang Jianxiong secretly took this German document from Shi Junqing and presented it to her.
This act ultimately led to Shi Junqing's expulsion from the military academy for the loss of a top-secret document. Snapping out of his reverie, Chang Jianxiong pocketed the knife and discreetly left the bar, evading all security cameras. Shi Yue returned to his office and immediately noticed that the army knife, his most treasured possession, was missing. Xie Hao confirmed that despite thorough checks of the security footage, no one was visible entering or leaving the room.
Shi Yue asserted that only two individuals possessed the skills to bypass all surveillance and take the knife: himself and Chang Jianxiong. Reflecting on his expulsion from the academy, Shi Yue realized that Chang Jianxiong was beginning to suspect him. He angrily declared that Chang Jianxiong had "stolen" the knife, just as he had "stolen" the German document years ago, adding confidently that Chang Jianxiong was now more desperate than he was.
At Future Up, Wen Di pressed Lao Qin about the issues with their new product, Phoenix I. Lao Qin admitted to problems with both time and money, emphasizing the critical need for more time. Just then, a frantic Chang Jianxiong rushed into the company and pulled Wen Di into an office.
He was agitated that no one had informed him that the owner of Lucid Dream, their investor, was Shi Yue, and vehemently insisted they could not accept Shi Yue's money. Wen Di, perplexed, asked why. Chang Jianxiong asserted that Shi Yue was directly targeting him. However, Wen Di was confident in her judgment, believing that Shi Yue and his investment were legitimate, especially since the contract had already been signed and Shi Yue's money had saved Future Up from bankruptcy.
Chang Jianxiong argued that Shi Yue’s sudden investment, at a time when no other company would, was suspicious, particularly highlighting the contract clause that mandated selling equity shares if the loan was not repaid on time. Wen Di conceded that she, too, was somewhat worried that if their R&D faced delays, Shi Yue could become a shareholder, to which Chang Jianxiong adamantly shouted, "He can't!"
Nan Qiao and her R&D team tirelessly worked through countless experiments, implementing improvements and solving problems one after another. Despite their dedicated efforts, they failed to complete the research and development of Phoenix I within the one-week deadline. Over dinner, Wen Di, having learned that Shi Yue had previously visited Nan Qiao’s home, jokingly suggested Nan Qiao use her charm to ask Shi Yue for an extension on the loan. Unexpectedly, Shi Yue then appeared directly at Future Up.
Nan Qiao appealed to Shi Yue for a repayment extension. Shi Yue, however, proposed that if she could not repay, she should offer him equity shares at the current market value. He further sweetened the deal by offering an additional 30 million yuan in interest-free funds to accelerate R&D. His conditions for this extra funding were that Future Up must actively pursue more drone-related field partnerships and develop groundbreaking solutions to "let drones change the world."
He specified that he wanted no shares for this additional fund and no immediate repayment, instead suggesting they take more time to get to know each other. Nan Qiao reluctantly asked Wen Di to prepare a new contract, but Wen Di surprised everyone by presenting the original repayment contract, revealing that they had already repaid Shi Yue's initial loan twelve hours and twenty minutes ahead of schedule.
Seeing Chang Jianxiong's name on the contract, Shi Yue realized his plan to acquire shares had been thwarted and departed. Nan Qiao expressed disappointment that Chang Jianxiong had used his trust fund to bail her out and resolved to repay him within six days. Frustrated by his failed plan, Shi Yue vented his anger by boxing at the gym. Unwilling to retreat, he devised a new strategy to get closer to Nan Qiao.
He told Xie Hao that since Chang Jianxiong was so worried about him getting close to Nan Qiao, he would now actively pursue her. He instructed Xie Hao to find him a house in Nan Qiao's residential estate. Xie Hao pointed out the cliché nature of this tactic, but Shi Yue dismissed it, stating that the more Chang Jianxiong tried to hide him, the more openly he would appear before Nan Qiao to "hook up."
Shi Yue boldly walked into a Future Up meeting, reminding Nan Qiao of their previous agreement for a date, which she reluctantly accepted, acknowledging the principle of paying one's debts. As they drove to the suburbs, Nan Qiao revealed that she had been observing him, noting his athletic nature and strong outdoor survival skills, and speculated that he would prefer to forge new paths rather than simply follow ordinary mountain trails.
To her surprise, they encountered Nan Qin and her son. Nan Qin disapproved of Shi Yue, making comments about his "rotten" appearance and questioning Nan Qiao's taste. After a playful exchange with Nan Qin's son, Shi Yue handed him his sports car keys, encouraging him to drive fast and get his bangs messy from the wind, before pulling Nan Qiao away, running. As Nan Qiao and Shi Yue ran, they stumbled upon a fallen climber, weakly calling for help.
Shi Yue prepared to call the police, but Nan Qiao quickly contacted Wen Di at Future Up, instructing her to dispatch a drone with emergency heart medication to their location. She emphasized that the drone's speed and ability to navigate difficult mountain terrain made it far more efficient than an ambulance in this situation. The drone swiftly delivered the medicine, saving the climber, who was then transported to the hospital by the arriving ambulance.
Meanwhile, an enraged Chang Jianxiong rushed to Lucid Dream bar, but Shi Yue was not there. He defiantly settled in, vowing to wait until Shi Yue returned. Xie Hao, informed of the situation, immediately had someone call Shi Yue, advising him not to return to the bar. Unaware, Shi Yue and Nan Qiao reached the mountaintop. Shi Yue playfully suggested that he and Nan Qiao were "one object vanquishing the other."
Nan Qiao, suspicious, asked if the ailing climber was part of his elaborate plan. Shi Yue chuckled, denying any such ability and attributing it to "the will of Heaven." Nan Qiao then shared that incidents like this were precisely why she embarked on drone research. Later that night, Chang Jianxiong, frustrated by Shi Yue's absence, finally left the bar.
As Xie Hao drove Shi Yue, he playfully questioned if Shi Yue was developing real feelings for Nan Qiao and proudly stated he had found a perfect house for Shi Yue, specifically emphasizing its proximity to Nan Qiao's residence. The successful emergency medicine delivery operation provided Nan Qiao with a crucial insight: the drone's flight control system was functioning perfectly. She then deduced that the real culprit behind the new product's failures was the navigational system.
Explaining her reasoning to her team, she likened the navigational system to the drone's "eyes," responsible for providing a frame of reference in terms of speed, location, and flight stance. She pointed out that relying on non-autonomous signals like GPS made the system vulnerable to electronic waves, causing sudden crashes. To resolve this, Nan Qiao proposed a multi-point GPS positioning system, adding modules to the drone's wings and belly.
This would ensure that even if the drone lost stability for any reason, the enhanced navigational system could send readjustment signals to the flight center, enabling the drone to recover and land safely.
