Only Side by Side with You Episode 2 Recap
> Only Side by Side with You Recap
Nan Qiao, having just witnessed her fiancé Zhou Ran kissing another woman, immediately called him to end their relationship. During their phone conversation, Zhou Ran, unaware that Nan Qiao had seen him, tried to reassure her he would be home late due to work discussions. Nan Qiao, however, bluntly stated, "Let's break up," questioning if love could be duplicated like his business dealings. Realizing she must have seen him, Zhou Ran frantically searched for her.
He found Nan Qiao and tried to explain away his infidelity, claiming the encounter was merely a business "show" and that the other woman had orchestrated it. Nan Qiao angrily threw the engagement ring he had given her, stating she wanted nothing more of his belongings. Zhou Ran, still attempting to salvage the situation, accused her of being childish for canceling their wedding.
He dismissed his actions, saying, "So what if a man gets stained by some meat or fish outside? The business world is a world of carnal pleasures to begin with." Nan Qiao firmly rejected his appeals, prompting Zhou Ran to lash out, claiming she only cared about her drone company, Future Up, and threatening to withdraw his investment.
Nan Qiao calmly agreed to his withdrawal, instructing him to convert his shares to cash and pay them to her within one week. Zhou Ran, frustrated by her composed response, continued to berate her. Just then, Chang Jianxiong appeared, pushed Zhou Ran away, and escorted Nan Qiao to safety. As they drove, Nan Qiao expressed her determination to sever all ties with Zhou Ran and return everything that belonged to him.
Chang Jianxiong inquired about the potential financial difficulties for Future Up if Zhou Ran pulled his investment, acknowledging it would be a substantial amount. He offered his help, but Nan Qiao, though appreciative, politely declined, asserting that if she truly needed assistance, he would be the first person she'd contact, but she would not accept it otherwise.
Chang Jianxiong then suggested visiting Future Up, where he was greeted with great enthusiasm by old employees who had missed him during his three-year absence serving in the army. They hailed him as the company's "guardian," and Wen Di also warmly welcomed him back. Later, Wen Di comforted Nan Qiao, agreeing that breaking off the engagement was for the best. She surmised that Zhou Ran would likely use his investor status to cause trouble for Future Up.
Nan Qiao affirmed her decision to proceed with the share withdrawal according to regulations. Wen Di then asked if Nan Qiao had informed her family. Nan Qiao had asked her sister, Nan Qin, to tell their father. Overhearing her father's angry remarks about not being personally informed of either the wedding plans or the breakup, and his disinterest in her company, Nan Qiao was deeply hurt.
Nan Qin tried to console her, revealing that despite his words, their father had staunchly defended Nan Qiao to Zhou Ran's father. Nan Qin encouraged Nan Qiao to visit their father, but Nan Qiao, still saddened, left with Chang Jianxiong, who promised Nan Qin he would take good care of her. They went to a special spot where Nan Qiao had seen Chang Jianxiong off three years prior when he left for military service at the border.
Chang Jianxiong reassured her, emphasizing that the fault lay entirely with Zhou Ran and that Nan Qiao should not blame herself. Nan Qiao admitted she was better at experiments than relationships, but Chang Jianxiong insisted it was Zhou Ran who had no taste. He reiterated his offer of financial assistance, but Nan Qiao playfully reminded him, "It's an order!" implying he was not to help. Back at Future Up, Nan Qiao immediately immersed herself in drone development.
Wen Di warned the team that due to Zhou Ran's interference, other investment companies were reluctant to engage with them. She stressed the importance of their upcoming meeting with Yu Feng Capital, reminding everyone that any mistakes could jeopardize their livelihoods. However, the representatives from Yu Feng Capital, Hou Yue and Ji Ning, failed to show up for the scheduled meeting due to Shi Yue’s obstruction. Wen Di called Hou Yue, who gave vague excuses.
Wen Di concluded that Zhou Ran was behind their sudden withdrawal. Enraged, Wen Di called Zhou Ran, accusing him of harming both Nan Qiao and Future Up. Zhou Ran denied actively sabotaging Future Up, claiming he only cooperated with Nan Qiao's decision to break up and withdraw his investment. However, he privately wondered who else might be obstructing Nan Qiao's company.
Nan Qiao then recalled Shi Yue's subtle offer of help and the business card with his phone number, just as Zhou Ran called her to arrange a meeting. At the meeting, Zhou Ran, aware of Future Up's financial struggles, presented a new business plan to Nan Qiao. He tried to coerce her into resuming their engagement. He even had waiters bring gifts including a teddy bear containing an engagement ring. Nan Qiao, however, saw through his tactics.
She skillfully extracted the diamond ring from an ice cream, presented Zhou Ran with an equity transfer agreement, and firmly pressed her handprint on it, agreeing to return 20 million yuan for his shares within a week. She acknowledged that his withdrawal would deter other investors, but she was resolute. As Nan Qiao walked away, Xia Qing, who had been observing the scene, confronted Zhou Ran, accusing him of lying about breaking up with Nan Qiao.
Zhou Ran cruelly dismissed Xia Qing, telling her that she meant nothing to him and their affair was merely for his fleeting pleasure. Back at Future Up, Wen Di learned that the company now faced a total deficit of 40 million yuan: a pre-existing 20 million shortfall plus the 20 million yuan needed to repurchase Zhou Ran's shares. Nan Qiao proposed accelerating the new product launch by a week to generate funds, a plan Wen Di found incredibly risky.
Meanwhile, Chang Jianxiong, learning of Nan Qiao's plight, invited Hou Yue and Ji Ning to Shi Yue's bar, Lucid Dream. Recognizing Chang Jianxiong as the son of the powerful Chang's Group, Hou Yue and Ji Ning cancelled other appointments to meet him. Chang Jianxiong ordered two boxes of baijiu (Chinese white alcohol). Shi Yue, informed by his partner Qie Hao, personally arranged for the baijiu to be acquired and served in large bowls.
Chang Jianxiong proceeded to drink excessively, challenging Hou Yue and Ji Ning to keep up, eventually instructing Qie Hao to prepare an ambulance for his guests. Shi Yue, watching from afar, recognized Chang Jianxiong as his former military comrade and old rival, and smiled, confident that Chang Jianxiong knew his limits. At the same time, Nan Qiao, having heard about Chang Jianxiong's antics from Wen Di, realized he was trying to help her and rushed to the bar.
Back in the surveillance room, Shi Yue learned that "Brother Tai," a local troublemaker he had previously confronted, had returned to the bar with his men, threatening to harm Shi Yue for interfering with his business. Shi Yue watched as Brother Tai and his men gathered in the underground parking lot. Shi Yue then saw Nan Qiao appear on the surveillance feed, heading towards the parking lot. Concerned for her safety, he quickly left the surveillance room to intercept her.
