Ye Zhao, attempting to be filial, accidentally causes Zhao Yujin's mother, Zhao Taifei, to fall and injure her head while swatting a mosquito. After a military doctor provides a prescription, Ye Zhao personally begins to brew the medicine. Her grandfather, the Town Duke, arrives, and when Ye Zhao leaves to address issues with new recruits reported by Qiu Shui, he takes over the brewing.
Finding the medicine bitter, the Town Duke secretly adds various condiments like salt, scallions, chili, soy sauce, and vinegar. Realizing his mistake, he quickly flees. Upon Ye Zhao's return, she finds the medicine peculiar but gives it to Zhao Taifei. Zhao Taifei drinks it, experiences a burning sensation, and her mouth swells. Zhao Yujin rushes in, sees his mother's state, and angrily declares that Ye Zhao no longer needs to perform morning or evening greetings.
Dismayed by the strained mother-in-law relationship, Ye Zhao convenes the Ye Family Army generals for advice, posing three questions for their mothers and wives. Hu Qing is absent, claiming no family experience, but Qiu Shui finds him practicing swordplay and reciting poetry. Hu Qing, who secretly harbors deep feelings for Ye Zhao, advises her that such relationships require time and space. Meanwhile, Zhao Yujin and Zhao Taifei visit the ailing Empress Dowager.
The Empress Dowager, reassured about Zhao Taifei's well-being and amused by a message from the Town Duke, encourages Zhao Yujin and Zhao Taifei to foster a closer relationship with Ye Zhao. She emphasizes that the Town Duke's family is the backbone of the Song Dynasty and urges Zhao Taifei not to dwell on Ye Zhao's unconventional demeanor. Later, Ye Zhao hosts a banquet for the Ye Family Army.
Qiu Lao Hu unsuccessfully attempts to arrange marriages for his daughters, Qiu Shui and Qiu Hua, with Hu Qing or other suitable bachelors. Zhao Yujin, dining nearby, grows jealous watching Ye Zhao interact with the generals and calls in several courtesans to entertain the soldiers. To outdo her, Zhao Yujin and his friends dress as courtesans and perform an elaborate dance.
Impressed but also provoked, Ye Zhao, spurred on by her generals, flies onto the stage, embraces Zhao Yujin, and playfully pinches his chin, asking about his "courtesan" companions. Annoyed, Zhao Yujin retaliates by embracing the actual courtesans. In response, Ye Zhao transforms into a seductive woman, stunning Zhao Yujin, then forcibly kisses him, leaving Zhao Yujin feeling humiliated. They part angrily. Back at the palace, Zhao Yujin seeks solitude in his study, only to find Ye Zhao waiting. Ye Zhao hands him a divorce letter, leaving Zhao Yujin utterly bewildered, while Ye Zhao remains determined to "win this battle."
