Never Say Goodbye Episode 4 Recap
> Never Say Goodbye Recap
Mu Qing urgently drove Ou Kexin home, stating he had a very important matter to handle and couldn't continue shopping with her. After dropping her off, Mu Qing and Li Ruosheng discussed their upcoming plan, with Mu Qing specifically cautioning Li Ruosheng not to let Dakun become aware of anything. Meanwhile, in a dimly lit room, Scorpion and his subordinate were celebrating their gains, having profited using Group K's name.
Scorpion boasted that while they were small like mice, they could eventually take down Group K, which he described as an elephant, once they accumulated enough wealth. Outside, Mu Qing and Li Ruosheng arrived in a large truck, announcing their presence. Scorpion's men identified the two, and Scorpion, cautious but confident seeing only two visitors, grabbed a wooden stick and went out to meet them.
After a quick pat-down, Mu Qing and Li Ruosheng declared their intention to cooperate, revealing the truck was filled with ephedrine, a raw material for drug production, as a sign of their sincerity. Inside Scorpion’s hideout, Scorpion proudly displayed his own low-grade product, claiming he could still profit by processing it to increase volume. Mu Qing countered that Scorpion's goods wouldn't appeal to major distributors or popular venues, suggesting his current methods were unprofessional.
Mu Qing promised that with him and Li Ruosheng, Scorpion's profits could double. Scorpion, suspicious, pulled a gun on Li Ruosheng, questioning his true motives, as Li Ruosheng was Mr. Ou's godson and should not need such a partnership.
Li Ruosheng explained that his title was meaningless; he claimed his godfather disregarded him, and the territories he and Mu Qing risked their lives to secure were taken by the Four Vajras and given to Dakun and Congtou, a situation he found intolerable. Mu Qing reinforced their sincerity by highlighting the over two million dollars worth of ephedrine. Scorpion’s men began inspecting one barrel of raw material, while, unbeknownst to them, Mu Qing's masked operatives were hidden in other barrels.
These operatives swiftly emerged, apprehending Scorpion’s men. A subordinate, however, managed to make a frantic call to Scorpion, alerting him to the trouble. Scorpion's expression changed, and Li Ruosheng, realizing the operation was exposed, immediately turned his gun on Scorpion, threatening his remaining men. Mu Qing and his backup quickly arrived. Li Ruosheng wanted to kill Scorpion on the spot, but Mu Qing restrained him, intending to deliver Scorpion to Bao Yunhai for crucial information, as per Director Liu's instructions.
They brought Scorpion to a boat, but Li Ruosheng, deeming the boat too valuable for a coffin, unexpectedly shot Scorpion multiple times, killing him and derailing Mu Qing's plan. Mu Qing struggled to control his anger. Li Ruosheng, unfazed, simply instructed his men to dispose of the body and tow the boat back, emphasizing economy. The next day, Bao Yunhai's team searched the sea without success, only to later discover Scorpion's body.
Bao Yunhai, frustrated by the delay in the arrest, complained to Director Liu that many cases would now go unsolved. Mu Qing took responsibility for Scorpion's death, requesting disciplinary action, but Director Liu reassured him that it was an unexpected event beyond his control. Director Liu informed Mu Qing that Rong Yao, the brother of Mu Qing's deceased girlfriend Rong Yu, would be joining the Yun Port mission from the Provincial Public Security Bureau's Anti-Drug Task Force.
Rong Yao was coming to investigate the new drug, G3307, which Mr. Ou was suspected of handling. Director Liu stressed that Mu Qing and Rong Yao would work together, one openly and one undercover, and warned Mu Qing not to let personal feelings for Rong Yu affect the mission, especially given Rong Yao's grief. Later, Li Ruosheng celebrated their recent "victory" at a bar with his subordinates. Mu Qing sat quietly, appearing reserved.
Li Ruosheng tried to get him to join the revelry, but Mu Qing explained his excitement was internal. As they toasted, Li Ruosheng received a phone call from Mr. Glasses, informing him that Mr. Ou wanted to meet him and Mu Qing, but also insisted that Ou Kexin accompany them. Kexin, still angry with her father, adamantly refused to go. Li Ruosheng pleaded with her, promising to exaggerate her recent misery to her father in hopes of eliciting his sympathy.
Kexin finally agreed. Upon arrival at Mr. Ou's residence, Mr. Glasses greeted them. He directed Mu Qing to meet Mr. Ou in his study on the second floor, while Li Ruosheng was sent to the backyard pond to catch and kill a fish for dinner. Li Ruosheng, admitting he couldn't kill a fish, reluctantly followed, asking Mu Qing for tips on how to avoid bursting its gallbladder.
Inside, Mr. Ou, preparing a meal, discussed cooking with Mu Qing, drawing parallels between ingredients in a dish and people in his organization. He remarked that the group was currently disorganized, lacking clear hierarchy. Mr. Ou indicated that he wanted to bring Mu Qing into the "cauldron" of his group, acknowledging Mu Qing’s capabilities. He cautioned Mu Qing that once he entered this world, "black cannot be white," and "white cannot be mixed up in black."
Mu Qing responded directly, stating his ambition to rise. Mr. Ou observed Mu Qing’s composure and intelligence, assigning him the task of supporting Li Ruosheng in the future. After his meeting, Mu Qing returned downstairs, where Li Ruosheng eagerly pressed him for details, but Mu Qing deferred the conversation. At dinner, Kexin, claiming a fish allergy, refused to eat the fish Li Ruosheng had prepared, which turned out to be bitter because he had ruptured its gallbladder.
Mr. Ou expressed his regret for Kexin's living situation, explaining he had "difficult circumstances" and his secretive work was for her own good, protecting her by keeping her away. Kexin, however, asked why she couldn't live at home, implying his work was illicit. Mr. Ou offered her a plane ticket back to France and travel money.
Kexin revealed that a recent fire in the French suburbs meant she would face court or prison if she returned, implying she was in trouble. Later, Mu Qing informed a thrilled Li Ruosheng that they were now officially part of the group's core. An agitated Kexin emerged, throwing her plane ticket down as she didn't want to go back to France, and pleading with Mu Qing for help to stay.
Mu Qing regretfully stated he couldn't help, knowing Mr. Ou never went back on his word. Kexin accused him of wanting her gone. Mr. Glasses then appeared, retracting the order for Kexin to return to France and giving her a bank card for her living expenses in China, instructing Mu Qing to take responsibility for caring for her. Kexin initially refused the card but accepted it upon learning Mu Qing would be her caretaker. The three then left.
