Never Say Goodbye Episode 37 Recap
> Never Say Goodbye Recap
Mr. Xu prepared to transport goods for Group K, assuring Glasses that the drugs were safely hidden inside frozen lamb carcasses. Li Ruosheng then handed Mr. Xu payment, with the remaining balance to be settled after the job was done, as per their usual arrangement. Later that night, Mr. Xu drove to transport the goods. He encountered a drunk jaywalker and swerved to avoid hitting him.
A traffic police officer then pulled over Mr. Xu’s vehicle, noting an obscured front license plate and a missing one on the truck’s body, deeming it a violation. Before the officer could take further action, two of Mr. Xu’s men from a trailing truck knocked the officer unconscious and took him away. Mr. Xu, seeing the situation, ordered his men to load the officer into the truck.
He then told Glasses that his business was transporting goods, not killing people, especially police officers. After Glasses's men took custody of the officer and the remaining payment was settled, Mr. Xu decided to leave Yungang, asking Glasses to find someone else for future shipments. Meanwhile, Rong Yao examined a small packet of drugs that had fallen from Mr. Xu’s vehicle. He noted a strong lamb smell, confirming their suspicion that the drugs were concealed within lamb carcasses.
He remarked that Group K seemed to be active again and expressed a bad feeling about the situation. He also mentioned that Director Liu had assigned a different squad to search for the missing police officer, while their task was to support their undercover agents. Mu Qing, an undercover agent, arrived at Mr. Ou’s home, insisting on seeing him. Glasses received a call and quickly rushed to Mr. Ou’s house.
Ou Kexin and Li Ruosheng were also en route, with Ou Kexin expressing concern about Mu Qing directly confronting her father, fearing it was a suicidal move. Mr. Ou questioned Mu Qing about his disappearance for the past month. Mu Qing claimed he was at the Yunnan border, evading Glasses’s attempts to kill him, and stated he could no longer keep hiding.
He also explained his presence at the hospital when Xiaoyue was caught by accompanying Ou Kexin for a routine check-up. Mr. Ou did not believe his story. Mu Qing then argued that Glasses and Li Ruosheng might not be competent enough to manage the group, but he was. He asserted that Mr. Ou still needed him, otherwise he wouldn’t have been granted an audience.
Despite acknowledging the group’s precarious position and shortage of talent, Mr. Ou refused to trust Mu Qing, holding a knife to his throat. Just then, Ou Kexin burst in, shouting for her father to stop. Li Ruosheng and Glasses followed her in. Mr. Ou angrily questioned Li Ruosheng about Ou Kexin’s continued presence in the country, accusing him of helping her deceive him. Ou Kexin stepped forward, taking responsibility for her actions.
She confessed that she had already become involved in the group’s business because Glasses had actively undermined Li Ruosheng and failed to follow Mr. Ou’s instructions regarding Mr. Xu’s drug transport. She also accused Glasses of constantly bullying both Mu Qing and Li Ruosheng. She urged her father to let her prove her capabilities by helping with an important upcoming deal. Furious, Mr. Ou ordered her to leave.
When Ou Kexin insisted on taking Mu Qing with her, Mr. Ou declared that Mu Qing was to remain confined in his house and not leave. Mu Qing agreed to stay. Mr. Ou then instructed Li Ruosheng to escort Ou Kexin out and ordered Shao Nan to take Mu Qing to the tea room. Glasses attempted to address Mr. Xu’s matter, but Mr. Ou cut him off, instructing him to instead investigate Mu Qing’s activities in Yunnan.
Meanwhile, Ou Kexin complained to Li Ruosheng about her father’s reaction, but Li Ruosheng tried to reassure her that Mu Qing would be safe as Mr. Ou still needed him, and that Glasses wouldn't dare act against her father's wishes. At the police station, Rong Yao was informed that Mu Qing (codenamed Yuanwen) was confined by Mr. Ou but was safe for now.
He was also updated that Ou Kexin (codenamed Rong Yu) had informed Mr. Ou of her intentions and insisted on joining the group’s business. Rong Yao confirmed that their contacts in Yunnan had been briefed on Mu Qing's fabricated whereabouts. Director Liu instructed Rong Yao to convey to Rong Yu that her involvement in Group K’s business was merely a means to an end, and they should now employ "softer tactics" with Mr. Ou.
Back at Mr. Ou’s residence, he warned Mu Qing that he had a limited window to confess before Glasses returned with his investigation findings, implying these could be his last moments. Mu Qing remained composed. Meanwhile, a police informant, codenamed Zhang (also referred to as "Old Zhang"), who had been established as Glasses's sole resource in Yunnan, reported his findings.
Zhang confirmed that a young man named Wang Yuanwen (Mu Qing's codename) had stayed at an inn there about a month prior, providing fabricated CCTV images as proof, which had been prepared by Rong Yao's team. Glasses reported these findings to Mr. Ou but still expressed deep suspicion, suggesting it was time for Mu Qing to perform a "loyalty test."
At the factory, Li Ruosheng was distributing wages when he spotted Shao Nan moving the abducted traffic officer, who was still alive but badly injured, inside a large barrel. A henchman explained that Glasses wanted the officer’s death to be "valuable" and that he would be very useful that night. Shao Nan dismissed Li Ruosheng, telling him it was "none of your business." Suspicious, Li Ruosheng instructed his men to follow Shao Nan.
He then called Ou Kexin, explaining the situation. Ou Kexin then called Rong Yao, explaining her inability to reach Mu Qing, and suspected a connection between Mu Qing and the abducted officer, believing Mu Qing was being set up. Rong Yao promised to find a solution within ten minutes. At Task Force 84, officers debated whether to intervene and stop the loyalty test to save the police officer.
One officer argued against direct intervention, warning it would expose their undercover agents and risk more lives. Li Yimeng proposed using NX042, a batch of non-lethal ammunition developed five years ago. She explained that its warheads contained a powerful anesthetic and were encased in a material that dissolved in the human body, designed to incapacitate targets without causing death. She noted that while expensive and not mass-produced, the Yungang Public Security Bureau was a test unit for these bullets.
Crucially, the 7. 62mm caliber of these bullets matched that of the "Big Black Star" (Type 54) pistol commonly used by drug dealers, allowing for a bullet swap. She acknowledged the plan’s risk but stated it was their only viable option. Rong Yao then had the anesthetic bullets delivered to Ou Kexin, emphasizing the importance of checking the caliber on the envelope. Ou Kexin, who was on her way to Glasses's location, sent her coordinates directly to Rong Yao’s team.
Glasses took Mu Qing and the traffic officer to a secluded location on the outskirts. He instructed Shao Nan to kill both Mu Qing and the officer if Mu Qing refused to shoot. Glasses then told Mu Qing that killing the officer was Mr. Ou’s demand for his loyalty test. Mu Qing argued that killing a police officer was a grave matter, urging Glasses to advise Mr. Ou against it rather than use Mr. Ou’s name as leverage.
Glasses, however, insisted they must follow Mr. Ou’s orders and gave Mu Qing five seconds to shoot the officer or face his own death. Mu Qing reluctantly agreed. As Rong Yao’s team prepared to intervene, Ou Kexin and Li Ruosheng arrived. Ou Kexin confronted Glasses, asking why he distrusted her, before Li Ruosheng urged Mu Qing to shoot and prove his loyalty.
Glasses reiterated that it was Mr. Ou’s loyalty test: if Mu Qing killed the officer, he was one of them; if he refused, he was a mole. As Mu Qing hesitantly raised his gun, Ou Kexin, feigning an argument with Glasses, subtly handed Mu Qing an anesthetic bullet. Mu Qing understood, quickly swapped the bullet, and shot the police officer. Ou Kexin declared to Glasses that their dispute was far from over and left with Mu Qing.
Glasses ordered his men to bury the body. Simultaneously, Rong Yao instructed his team to follow Glasses’s men and rescue the officer when an opportunity arose. As Mu Qing and Ou Kexin walked away, she asked him how many secrets he was keeping from her. Mu Qing replied that it wasn't his secret but a mission. Rong Yao, receiving confirmation of the successful operation, commented that the plan was well-executed and ordered his team to withdraw.
