Never Say Goodbye Episode 16 Recap
> Never Say Goodbye Recap
Mu Qing assured Mr. Ou that he could rebuild the sales network within one week. Mr. Ou was pleased and invited him for tea. Meanwhile, in a car, Tieguanyin told Congtou to be more perceptive, noting Ou Kexin's apparent interest in Mu Qing. Congtou then received a phone call from Mu Qing. Mu Qing informed him he was giving away all of Dakun's properties, including land and businesses.
Mu Qing explained that some of Dakun's assets were seized by the police, but the majority, held by Dakun's dealers, were still intact. He offered these to Congtou and Tieguanyin, stating that his junior position in the organization meant these assets should not belong to him. Mu Qing expressed his hope that they would assist him should he face difficulties in the future. Congtou, initially confused, asked how Mu Qing would rebuild the sales network if he gave everything away.
Mu Qing clarified that Dakun's dealers were under police surveillance, making it impossible to ship goods through them. He suggested that selling or renting the properties would provide a significant income. Congtou still couldn't grasp why Mu Qing would be so generous, wondering if he had a secret plan. Tieguanyin, however, recognized that Mu Qing was not an ordinary person and was making a smart move.
When asked how to divide the properties, Tieguanyin declared that she didn't want any, leaving them all to Congtou. Afterward, Li Ruosheng, who had also been informed, expressed regret over losing such valuable assets but acknowledged that sacrifices were necessary. Mr. Ou, speaking with Glasses, pondered why Ou Kexin and Mu Qing had become so close, expressing his concern about any romantic involvement given their dangerous profession.
He noted Mu Qing's usual cautious and reserved demeanor, finding his open attitude towards Kexin's wishes, especially his unconditional agreement to her three conditions, very unusual. Glasses agreed it was strange that Mu Qing would unconditionally agree to Kexin's requests, even on her birthday. Glasses voiced his worry that Kexin might get hurt, highlighting her importance to Mr. Ou.
Mr. Ou instructed Glasses to implement preventive measures regarding Mu Qing, but cautioned against direct surveillance that might provoke resentment, especially since Mu Qing was busy rebuilding the network. He also inquired if the cold chain storage incident, where Dakun had kidnapped a police undercover agent to secure a retreat, had any connection to Mu Qing. Glasses reported no such findings, and Mr. Ou decided to trust Mu Qing, stating that belief in one's subordinates was crucial.
Mu Qing was preparing to visit Ou Kexin when Li Ruosheng, seeing him dressed up, questioned if he was going on a date. Mu Qing denied it, saying he was just visiting Kexin. Li Ruosheng, concerned that Mu Qing might take Kexin's previous words seriously, insisted on joining him to prevent any romantic entanglement.
After Mu Qing slipped away and got into his car, Li Ruosheng surprised him by appearing in the passenger seat, forcing Mu Qing to take him along. At Ou Kexin's studio, Li Ruosheng's presence prompted Kexin to assign him the "assistant's assistant" role, starting with ironing clothes. As Ou Kexin led Mu Qing upstairs to retrieve fabric, they encountered Shao Nan, a subordinate sent by Glasses to look after her.
Ou Kexin discreetly warned Mu Qing that Glasses was now monitoring him too. Li Ruosheng, having grown tired of ironing, left the iron unattended, burning a piece of expensive fabric. Ou Kexin used this as an excuse to punish him, ordering him to clean all the windows, then swiftly left with Mu Qing. However, Li Ruosheng soon caught up with them again. Despite Mu Qing and Ou Kexin's attempts to lose him, Li Ruosheng persisted.
He then confronted Mu Qing, offering him anything—his waterbed, platinum VIP card, or even setting him up with women from his contact list—as long as Mu Qing didn't get serious with Ou Kexin, claiming it was for Mu Qing's own good. Mu Qing simply thanked him for the reminder. Unseen, Glasses's men were dispatched to install listening devices throughout Ou Kexin's studio. Ou Kexin, finding button batteries on the floor, quickly realized her studio was bugged.
When Mu Qing arrived, she loudly suggested they take a shower together to create a diversion, turning on the water in the bathroom. After thoroughly checking the bathroom for bugs, Ou Kexin formally introduced herself to Mu Qing as Skylark, an investigator from the Provincial Public Security Bureau. Mu Qing praised her deep cover. Ou Kexin then revealed that she was not Mr. Ou's biological daughter but his adopted one.
Her real parents were killed by the police while transporting drugs for Mr. Ou in Southeast Asia. Mr. Ou adopted her when she was an infant, and she only learned the truth from her adopted mother before her death. She explained that Mr. Ou was unaware she knew the truth, and their never having met prior facilitated her undercover work. Ou Kexin proposed that they cooperate fully. Mu Qing inquired how she managed to decrypt the bomb on Zhao Nan.
Ou Kexin revealed that Dakun was simple-minded and prone to reusing passwords, which she deduced from his warehouse access code and payment card pin. Ou Kexin then asked about Mu Qing's next steps, and he said their priority was to deal with Tieguanyin, who was trying to recruit her and targeting him. He promised to inform Ou Kexin once he had a plan.
Mu Qing also requested Ou Kexin's help in getting Xiaowei on the right path, describing him as fundamentally good despite past mistakes. Ou Kexin agreed. Back at the studio, Li Ruosheng arrived with supper, only to see Mu Qing and Ou Kexin emerge from the bathroom, looking upset. Elsewhere, Glasses reported to Mr. Ou, admitting he underestimated Ou Kexin's feelings for Mu Qing and noting Mu Qing's surprising behavior.
Mr. Ou reiterated his firm stance against Kexin dating anyone in their line of work, recalling Mu Qing's promise to avoid such a relationship. Mr. Ou instructed Glasses to thoroughly investigate Mu Qing's background, preparing for any future explanations to Kexin, as he wouldn't allow her to be hurt. Later, Ou Kexin and Mu Qing slipped out after Li Ruosheng had fallen asleep. Ou Kexin proposed they formalize their boyfriend-girlfriend relationship to facilitate closer cooperation without arousing suspicion.
Mu Qing expressed reservations, given Mr. Ou's earlier warning. Ou Kexin reassured him, stating she would handle any fallout and that her mission was to fully cooperate and protect him. Mu Qing then asked for her help in assisting Xiaowei. Ou Kexin agreed, and they went to Xiaowei's makeshift hideout, a dilapidated building. Upon seeing Xiaowei, Ou Kexin immediately recognized his potential and suggested he become a model.
Xiaowei initially scoffed at the idea, citing the danger from those pursuing him. However, Ou Kexin convinced him that the "darkest place is under the light," suggesting public exposure as a model would be the last place his pursuers would look. Mu Qing added that Xiaowei was still young, kind-hearted, and could start anew with their help. Convinced, Xiaowei agreed to the plan.
Ou Kexin then pressed Mu Qing on how he planned to rebuild the sales network given his deadline with Mr. Ou and having given away Dakun's territories. Mu Qing, citing "top secret" information, simply stated he had everything arranged and would handle Mr. Ou. Ou Kexin then jokingly reminded him that as her boyfriend, he should drive her, to which Mu Qing playfully responded. Mu Qing initiated drug sales on the dark web through his subordinates.
Unbeknownst to them, the police, with Mu Qing's active assistance, had already gained full control, secretly cooperating with the drug sales operation and tracking every transaction, led by Rong Yao. Within a single night, 17 kilograms of drugs were sold. Mu Qing immediately called Mr. Ou to report his success. Mr. Ou praised him, saying he was far more capable than Dakun.
Mu Qing expressed concern that Tieguanyin might not keep up with the volume of shipments, but Mr. Ou assured him that he would ensure Tieguanyin's full cooperation. Shortly after, Mu Qing placed a call to Director Liu, but Rong Yao answered the phone instead.
