My Girlfriend Recap
Episode 1 Recap
If love were an exam, Ding Xiaorou was destined to be someone who couldn't even pass a make-up test. For ten years, every time she bravely confessed her feelings, it invariably turned into a farewell. She attributed this streak of bad luck to always falling asleep at crucial moments in her life. One day, Ding Xiaorou, still groggy, headed to driving school.
Unable to distinguish her car from dozens of identical ones, she placed a handmade cartoon marker on its roof. Her Coach was furious, exclaiming, "Ding Xiaorou, you tell me, are you an undercover agent sent by another driving school? I'm asking you, do you still want to practice?" Ding Xiaorou tried to explain, "Coach, you don't know, there are over a hundred cars in this driving school, and they all look exactly the same.
I spend ages looking for mine every time. So I thought I'd put this on Xiaobai. First, it helps me find it, and second, it's a gift for Xiaobai, made by me. Isn't it cute?" The Coach cut her off, "Coach cars are strictly forbidden from unauthorized modifications! Because of your trinket, I was fined 500 dollars! You know what 500 means to me?" He then ordered her to remove it.
Meanwhile, senior TV producer Chi Xin was test-driving his new car, ordered over three months ago. The salesperson enthusiastically showcased the car's features, but Chi Xin pointed out discrepancies, such as the tires being 18-inch standard instead of the 19-inch sports rims he specified. He was clearly displeased by the 4S dealership's two-day delay, citing a clause that allowed him to cancel if the car was delivered more than three months late.
Despite the Coach's constant chatter and advice like, "Driving and finding a boyfriend are the same – you can't be too eager," Ding Xiaorou drifted off to sleep at a critical moment. Her phone rang, and it was Wang Te, a colleague from her company. He had read her confession letter and was calling to reject her, saying, "Sorry, I already have someone I like."
Stunned by yet another rejection, Ding Xiaorou accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, crashing into a roadside billboard, and then directly into Chi Xin's car. Both were rushed to the same hospital. Ding Xiaorou woke up disoriented, hearing Chi Xin on the phone nearby, discussing the accident with the 4S dealership and urging them to find the at-fault driver. Chi Xin stated, "This car, I will take it as ordered.
I was hit by a white Santana at the intersection of Heping Road and Anli Road," then added, "And it better not be your responsibility. If it is, I will definitely protect my rights." Hearing that she had hit a "Big Ben" and realizing the potential cost, Ding Xiaorou panicked and fled her room. She inadvertently saw Wang Te at the nurses' station asking about her. " How could he find here?"
she wondered, scrambling to hide in the men's restroom. Chi Xin suddenly emerged from a stall. In her haste to escape, Ding Xiaorou snatched his trench coat. Chi Xin blocked her way, but she managed to hastily scribble her contact information on his arm cast, promising to return his coat soon. Chi Xin received an urgent call from his assistant, urging him to return to the company. " Brother Xin, hurry back to the company, something happened!"
Arriving, Chi Xin learned that Tong Liang, a producer from Star News, was officially taking over his popular show, "Forward, Youth." In the conference room, Tong Liang criticized Chi Xin for two major oversights: "As a senior producer, you completely missed the sponsor's product placement during the show. Second, the company spent a fortune hiring a celebrity, and you cut out every single frame of them."
Chi Xin retorted, explaining that the sponsor's product had issues, and he would also remove any celebrity with negative news. He stormed out, despite his boss's attempts to retain him, who promised him a new show. Back at her own company, Ding Xiaorou was mortified to find her love letter to Wang Te publicly displayed by her supervisor. " This is not just a love letter; it's a warning!" the supervisor declared. "
The company hired you to work, not to date! People like Ding Xiaorou are black sheep, not focused on work but writing such disgusting things, harassing male colleagues. It's simply ruining the atmosphere! If she wasn't just a part-timer, I would have fired her long ago!" Deeply embarrassed, Ding Xiaorou fled to her shop, writing a new wish on a card.
She internally vowed to work hard, earn money, and continue confessing, determined to break the curse that she would "never be loved in this life." Chi Xin's boss showed him a selection of available programs: TV shopping, children's shows like "Windmill, Circle Pink Future," and the "Love Sandstorm," a show with dismal ratings aimed at reuniting estranged couples, slated for cancellation.
The boss tried to steer Chi Xin away from "Love Sandstorm" due to its low viewership, stating, "It basically has no sponsors or celebrities. This one will probably be cut after this season." Defiantly, Chi Xin chose "Love Sandstorm," telling his assistant, "No sponsors, no celebrities, so we can do whatever we want without restraint." His assistant was shocked, "Boss, you're really going to take on this terrible show with only 0. 08 ratings? Are you crazy?"
As the assistant relayed program details, she accidentally spilled a cup of water, blurring a phone number she had written down. Later that evening, Chi Xin received a breakup message from his girlfriend, Jiang Yuan, leaving him heartbroken. Passing a shoe store, Chi Xin noticed Ding Xiaorou's card displayed in the window, its bold declaration resonating with him. Having just moved, he returned to his new Palm Garden community, collecting a stack of packages from the gatekeeper.
Unbeknownst to them, he and Ding Xiaorou lived on different floors in the same building. They briefly brushed past each other at the elevator, their faces obscured by the parcels, preventing recognition. Soon after, Ding Xiaorou received a text from her friend, SA Yi, with Chi Xin's contact number. Chi Xin called the number he'd found on his cast, but a man answered. He immediately concluded that the woman who took his trench coat was a "liar."
That night, Ding Xiaorou's loud vacuuming disturbed Chi Xin's sleep, causing him to complain, "How can a person with insomnia live like this?" The next morning, Ding Xiaorou was waiting at a bus stop when three pregnant women approached. Her phobia of pregnant women triggered, she began to feel unwell and urged them, "Don't come here!" She then fainted. Coincidentally, Chi Xin passed by, recognized her, and helped her up. He even recorded a video, stating, "I am Chi Xin.
It is now 9:05 AM at the bus stop of Palm Garden community. A woman has fallen unconscious on the roadside. Out of humanitarianism, I helped her to the side of the road." Before leaving, he also wrote his own contact information on her neck brace, adding, "I learned this trick from you." He then called 120. When Ding Xiaorou woke up again in the hospital, SA Yi was there to help her remove the neck brace. "
The doctor has checked, it's okay not to wear this," SA Yi assured her, tossing the brace into a trash can. SA Yi mentioned an upcoming "Regular No Love Men and Women" gathering she was attending. Ding Xiaorou, feeling low, insisted on joining, hoping for some companionship. At the "Can't Fall in Love Coffee House," several women shared their tragic romantic experiences.
Susan recounted a story of domestic violence, while Xianxian tearfully spoke of her beloved poodle, Yifan, who passed away a year and a half ago, preventing her from moving on. Ding Xiaorou then shared her own unique plight, "In this world, I am the only one who truly cannot fall in love. When I was fifteen, a pregnant woman mistook me for a mistress and cursed me to never find love.
Since then, not a single one of my confessions has succeeded. Just yesterday, I made my thirtieth confession." She revealed a strange side effect of the curse: anyone who rejected her found their true love within three days. Afterward, SA Yi, spotting a man with an impressive physique, decided to play matchmaker for Ding Xiaorou. " He's exquisite, no, he's exceptional!" SA Yi exclaimed. " I bet this man is high in both IQ and looks!"
She then mischievously poked the man's butt and ran off, leaving Ding Xiaorou to face him. The man turned, his eyes burning with annoyance, and Ding Xiaorou realized with a shock that it was Chi Xin.
Episode 2 Recap
Someone once said that every crystal ball holds a cursed princess, spinning in solitude like a carousel horse, waiting for a prince to break the crystal ball and offer her roses. Ding Xiaorou, when she was fifteen, experienced a similar kind of curse. That summer, a heavily pregnant woman, mistaking Ding Xiaorou for her husband's mistress, publicly cursed her, shouting that she would "never be loved" in her entire life. Overwhelmed, Ding Xiaorou fainted.
Doctors later diagnosed her with narcolepsy, a rare condition inherited from her ancestors. Since that day, her life has been a difficult roller coaster, seemingly validating the pregnant woman's curse. Despite feeling the curse's effects, Ding Xiaorou refused to surrender, vowing to rise up from where she fell. Chi Xin confronted Ding Xiaorou, accusing her of being a con artist who stole his coat and left a fake number.
Ding Xiaorou vehemently denied it, explaining her narcolepsy and the curse from when she was fifteen. She asserted that anyone she confessed to would find love within three days. Nearby, He Mingzhu and Nan Sasa, who were at their group party, overheard and were optimistic that Ding Xiaorou might finally be getting rid of her curse. Chi Xin, dismissing her story as "nonsense," challenged her to prove it.
Just then, Zhen Zheng walked by, and Ding Xiaorou promptly confessed to him. Zhen Zheng politely refused, much to Chi Xin's amusement. Ding Xiaorou, however, confidently told Zhen Zheng that he would find love in three days, and then asked Chi Xin to leave his phone number so they could follow up. Chi Xin, intrigued, gave her his number, reminding her to return his coat, which he expected to be dry-cleaned as it was a luxury item.
Chi Xin observed Zhen Zheng's sudden popularity with women, including female colleagues like Julie who brought him drinks and gifts, seemingly validating Ding Xiaorou's prediction. Ding Xiaorou faced a difficult morning at work. Colleagues avoided her, and her supervisor, Lucy, harshly reprimanded her for writing a love letter to a male colleague, strictly forbidding office romance. Suddenly, a new employee named Zheng Ze intervened.
He calmly removed Ding Xiaorou's love letter from the public display, citing the Swire Group's staff code, which stipulates that the display window must be kept tidy. He further argued that publicly displaying a personal letter was an infringement of privacy and illegal. Lucy, annoyed, told Zheng Ze to focus on his work.
Dejected, Ding Xiaorou tried to message Wang Te, the recipient of her love letter, to ask if he had ever liked her, hoping this would indicate a break in her curse. To her dismay, she found he had blacklisted her. She confided in Nan Sasa about her troubles with Lucy and the impending car crash compensation. Nan Sasa, a young female doctor, reassured her and suggested she take on an interior design project for He Mingzhu's coffee shop.
In the evening, Ding Xiaorou worked her part-time job designing window displays. Zheng Ze unexpectedly joined her, offering her an ice cream he bought during a buy-one-get-one-free promotion. They shared the ice cream, and Ding Xiaorou revealed her "Snow country Rainbow" design concept, explaining that snow represents pure love, while a rainbow, like Zheng Ze, brings good cheer. They worked together to adjust the lighting for the display.
Later, Ding Xiaorou and Nan Sasa were at He Mingzhu's coffee shop, working on a flat design project, when Chi Xin and Zhen Zheng arrived to interview another couple for "Love Sandstorm." The engaged couple immediately began to argue because the groom insisted on inviting his three "sisters" to the wedding, which the bride vehemently opposed. Zhen Zheng tried to mediate but was pushed backward onto a chair.
Ding Xiaorou suddenly remembered she had left thumbtacks on that chair for her design work, and Zhen Zheng cried out in pain. Zhen Zheng was rushed to the hospital. Chi Xin, furious, chastised Ding Xiaorou for leaving thumbtacks on the chair, accusing her of negligence. Ding Xiaorou retorted that she had already apologized and the thumbtacks were for her design. Zhen Zheng and Nan Sasa intervened to stop the argument.
Nan Sasa, with tender care, attended to Zhen Zheng's wound, covering him with a blanket. Meanwhile, Chi Xin received a phone call from his Director, who informed him that "Love Sandstorm" was facing cancellation due to declining viewership and dwindling sponsorship, with only two episodes left. Chi Xin adamantly refused to let the show die, confident he could revive its ratings. Ding Xiaorou, suspecting Nan Sasa might harbor feelings for Zhen Zheng, questioned her.
Nan Sasa, a medical professional, dismissed the idea of a curse, attributing Ding Xiaorou's failed confessions to strong psychological self-suggestion. She urged Ding Xiaorou to stop being caught in a "strange circle" of negative thoughts and reminded her to apologize to Zhen Zheng for the injury. Later, when Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin visited Zhen Zheng in the hospital, they witnessed Zhen Zheng and He Mingzhu intimately sharing food, clearly a couple.
Ding Xiaorou felt a pang of sadness that her curse was still active, having seemingly brought love to Zhen Zheng while leaving her heartbroken. Yet, she found some comfort in her friends' happiness. Chi Xin, still unconvinced by the curse, tried to reassure Ding Xiaorou, though he found her way of thinking unusual.
As Chi Xin prepared to drive Ding Xiaorou home, he received a call from a friend, who provided the contact information for the hit-and-run driver who had damaged his car. Ding Xiaorou immediately recognized the details and realized she was the culprit. Panicked, she tried to steer the conversation away, vehemently condemning "shameless" "road killers" who commit hit-and-runs, suggesting they might have extenuating circumstances like lack of money.
Unmoved by her impassioned plea, Chi Xin dialed the number, and Ding Xiaorou's phone began to ring. Exposed, she quickly made an excuse and fled the hospital. Later, rushing home, she found Chi Xin waiting for the elevator. He greeted her, casually mentioning he lived on the fourth floor, making them neighbors.
Episode 3 Recap
Chi Xin confronted Ding Xiaorou in the hallway of their apartment building, urging her to pay back the money she owed him. He remarked on the coincidence of them being neighbors, with him on the fourth floor. Ding Xiaorou, attempting to evade him, denied living there, but Chi Xin didn't believe her, stating that since they were neighbors, collecting the debt would be easier. From his apartment, he later loudly reminded her to pay him back.
Ding Xiaorou insisted she wasn't trying to cheat, but genuinely had no money, and reiterated that she wasn't a "road killer" but suffered from Sudden Sleep, which had caused the accident. Later, Ding Xiaorou sought advice from Nan Sasa (SA Yi) and He Mingzhu about her predicament. He Mingzhu pointed out that Ding Xiaorou's situation, with a handsome creditor, chance encounters, living in the same building, and misunderstandings, had all the makings of an idol drama.
However, Ding Xiaorou was focused on the urgent matter of the debt, as Chi Xin had given her only a week to pay for the luxury car she crashed. He Mingzhu suggested a method, outlining a plan for Ding Xiaorou to "sell miserably" to Chi Xin. She advised Ding Xiaorou to admit her mistakes, praise him, and avoid looking at her notes. She assured Ding Xiaorou that the angrier Chi Xin got, the more pitiable Ding Xiaorou would appear.
Following He Mingzhu's advice, Ding Xiaorou sent a message to Chi Xin, politely requesting a meeting to discuss the payment, to which Chi Xin promptly replied. At Chi Xin's company reception room, Ding Xiaorou, with deliberately disheveled hair and dark circles under her eyes (courtesy of He Mingzhu), tearfully confessed her mistakes and recounted a fabricated sad story, initially mentioning a lost puppy before correcting herself to a cat.
She praised Chi Xin for not involving the police and still giving her time. She promised to pay him back even if she had to live in a basement. Chi Xin saw through her act, caught her glancing at her notes, and told her to memorize her lines better next time. Zhen Zheng, Chi Xin's assistant, later confirmed to Chi Xin that Ding Xiaorou was like a "school student caught cheating."
Meanwhile, Zheng Ze arrived at Taigu Company to start his new job in the Design Department. He specifically inquired about Ding Xiaorou, only to be informed by other employees that she had likely been fired. Around the same time, their supervisor Lucy was receiving praise for a window design. Undeterred by the failure of the "pity play," Ding Xiaorou resolved to follow He Mingzhu's second suggestion: the "beauty trap."
He Mingzhu explained that to get more time, Ding Xiaorou needed to change Chi Xin's impression of her. She believed that no man could resist a woman pursuing him if the methods were clever enough. On the day of the formal recording for Chi Xin's show "Love Sandstorm," the scheduled host unexpectedly dropped out due to a conflict with another program produced by Tong Liang.
Unfazed, Chi Xin, who had majored in broadcasting and hosting in college, stepped in as the host. The first segment featured a couple, Xiaowen and Xie Yang. Xiaowen wanted to break up with Xie Yang after five years, feeling they had grown apart and lacked common ground. Xie Yang, in contrast, offered to give up his overseas studies if she would stay.
Reflecting on his own past relationship with Jiang Yuan, Chi Xin abruptly advised Xiaowen to break up with Xie Yang, asserting that Xie Yang's actions were merely for his own self-gratification. Zhen Zheng tried to intervene, but Chi Xin cut the segment short, promising to explain his actions to the team later. Ding Xiaorou, having dressed up in a sexy dress for her "beauty trap," arrived at Chi Xin's company.
Chi Xin, distraught from the show, went directly to his office, leaving Ding Xiaorou waiting patiently outside. As the evening progressed, a thunderstorm broke out. Chi Xin finally emerged, and Ding Xiaorou followed. Outside, Chi Xin spotted Tong Liang picking up Jiang Yuan. He handed his umbrella to Ding Xiaorou and ran off into the rain. Upon returning home, Ding Xiaorou realized she had left her diary in Chi Xin's office.
She called He Mingzhu, expressing her distress about the failed "beauty trap" and her mounting debt. During the call, Nan Sasa (SA Yi), who was with He Mingzhu, was surprised Ding Xiaorou still kept a diary and advised her to retrieve the outstanding payment from Lucy. Back at his office, Chi Xin found Ding Xiaorou's retro diary. Unable to resist his curiosity, he opened it. He was astonished to read about Ding Xiaorou's numerous failed confessions, tallying over thirty heartbreaks.
Realizing this was a compelling story, he immediately called Zhen Zheng, instructing him to contact Ding Xiaorou's former love interests. The next morning, Ding Xiaorou went to Lucy to demand her outstanding payment. Lucy, still angry about a previous incident where Ding Xiaorou's actions led to her getting scolded by their boss, accused Ding Xiaorou of causing damage to the company's reputation.
Lucy declared that the outstanding payment would be withheld as compensation for the "damages" and a "fine," stating that any future collaboration would depend on Ding Xiaorou's improved performance. Zheng Ze observed the entire exchange. As a dejected Ding Xiaorou left, the heel of her shoe broke on the stairs. Zheng Ze, who had followed her, offered her a comforting cake and praised her talent.
He also revealed his own condition, Sudden Sleep, which causes him to fall asleep if his heart rate exceeds 190, showing her a heart rate alarm he wore. To make her feel better about her broken shoe, he deliberately broke the heel of her other shoe so they would match. Meanwhile, Zhen Zheng and his team visited Ding Xiaorou's previous "confession targets," but found that most had no recollection of her.
One man only vaguely remembered her for her fried eggs, and mentioned meeting someone else because of her. Zhen Zheng reported the dismal findings to Chi Xin, who, inspired by Ding Xiaorou's diary, confidently declared that he had an idea that would guarantee an "Audience Rating 2. 0" for the next episode. Later, Chi Xin was disturbed by noise from the apartment upstairs, which turned out to be Ding Xiaorou.
Annoyed, he considered buying a "Floor shaking device," a "noise-based noise" gadget designed to combat noisy neighbors. Ding Xiaorou came to his door to apologize, explaining she only had time for housework at night. Chi Xin told her to be mindful of the time, implying she lacked public morality. Ding Xiaorou defended herself, stating she lived just above him and had no intention of defaulting on her debt, and was working hard to earn money. She apologized for the noise but asked him not to accuse her of lacking public morality.
Episode 4 Recap
Chi Xin announced at a company morning meeting that the "Love sandstorm" program would be revamped. He explained that the show's content and format were outdated and that revision was imperative to cater to young people's trends. When questioned about the difficulty of changing the target audience from middle-aged and elderly to young men and women, Chi Xin revealed his plan for an "Outdoor reality show."
Despite a colleague's skepticism, suggesting it might just be a simulated blind date with celebrities, Chi Xin confidently stated that he had a "secret weapon." After securing the Director's approval, Chi Xin immediately sought out Ding Xiaorou for cooperation. Mistaking his visit as a debt collection, Ding Xiaorou offered him her meager 3,000 yuan. Chi Xin clarified he was there to discuss a partnership, not debt collection, and even noted her receptive body language.
Ding Xiaorou, however, suspected he merely wanted her to exploit her past for the show. Chi Xin countered by stating she was his ideal candidate and presented an accident claim list totaling 270,000 yuan, covering medical compensation, driving school fines, and Mercedes-Benz repairs, offering to pay it all if she agreed to join. Ding Xiaorou initially claimed her stories were fabricated for a party, but Chi Xin produced her diary, questioning if it was also made up.
She attempted to snatch it back, accusing him of invading her privacy. Chi Xin then urged her not to let a curse bind her for life, drawing a parallel to the "Beauty and Beast" story, emphasizing that no one truly likes loneliness but fears disappointment. He encouraged her not to give up hope, portraying his program as an opportunity for her to find someone who loves her. Ding Xiaorou's friends, SA Yi and He Mingzhu, also supported her participation.
With their agreement, Chi Xin formally welcomed her to the "Love sandstorm" program. Afterward, Chi Xin's team discussed advertising to find male guests, highlighting the "curse girl" narrative to see if she could find true love and break the curse. Chi Xin tasked his team with a widespread advertising campaign for the revamped show, placing ads on buses and in elevators, which quickly yielded numerous applications for male guests.
When the team expressed concerns about funding, Chi Xin took on the responsibility of securing sponsorships. He pitched the new, youth-oriented show to Mr. Liu, emphasizing its synergy with Mr. Liu's theme park. Meanwhile, Ding Xiaorou, mortified after seeing her "curse girl" story broadcast on a mobile TV while on a bus, angrily confronted Chi Xin at his office. She accused him of invading her privacy by using her image without consent.
Chi Xin calmly referenced a contract clause that permitted the use of her name and likeness for promotional purposes, explaining that his staff strategically placed ads where he would see them, even if it meant a concentrated presence. During their discussion, Chi Xin also took a call from Mr. Mao, who inquired about the authenticity and appearance of the "curse girl."
Chi Xin confirmed the curse was real but stressed that appearance was secondary, as it was a "meaningful program, not a superficial one." He reassured Ding Xiaorou that her involvement was mutually beneficial and promised to select only the most exceptional male guests. While the specific male guests remained confidential, Chi Xin informed her that filming would commence in two days, giving her 32 hours to purchase essential items, which he would reimburse up to 1,000 yuan.
SA Yi further bolstered Ding Xiaorou's spirits by giving her a "transfer mask" and providing carsickness medicine, advising her to take it if she felt unwell after the recording. SA Yi accompanied Ding Xiaorou to buy necessities, reiterating the advice to take the carsickness medicine if needed. Ding Xiaorou arrived at the program set with her luggage.
Chi Xin and the staff had prepared the site according to a "Beauty and Beast" theme, where Ding Xiaorou, the "cursed beauty," would select six out of twelve masked male candidates using six roses. The makeup artist attempted to calm a nervous Ding Xiaorou, explaining that reality shows were scripted and the male guests were all handsome. As the segment began, Ding Xiaorou, holding roses, hesitated, unsure how to choose among the masked men.
Observing her inaction, Chi Xin instructed Zhen Zheng to prompt her to make a decision. Ding Xiaorou's indecision continued, causing further anxiety among the crew. Eventually, an impatient Chi Xin personally intervened, questioning her inability to make a choice. Ding Xiaorou, frustrated, claimed she was too hungry to think clearly because the program team had not served food. Chi Xin retorted that her hesitation was wasting everyone's time.
In a defiant gesture, Ding Xiaorou randomly distributed five of her roses to male guests near her and then declared she needed to use the restroom. Annoyed, Chi Xin instructed the staff to serve meals. Ding Xiaorou, defiant, refused to eat the provided lunchbox and instead prepared instant noodles for herself. Later, Chi Xin's assistant brought her a meal from Chi Xin, but she declined, stating she had already started on her instant noodles.
Meanwhile, Chi Xin himself was also eating instant noodles, giving very particular instructions on how to prepare them: add the vegetable packet first, then half a spoon of chili sauce, and do not tear the seasoning packet immediately. After lunch, Chi Xin's assistant delivered a detailed program script to Ding Xiaorou, emphasizing the need for her to follow it strictly. Feeling increasingly nervous, Ding Xiaorou sought out the restroom.
As she passed the lounge, she overheard the male guests who had received her roses. They openly disparaged her appearance, finding her "ordinary" compared to the advertisements, and expressed annoyance at her prolonged selection process. Their conversation revealed their true motive: they planned to reject her, hoping to leverage the "curse girl" legend to find their own true love within three days.
They also voiced envy for the other male guests who had not received roses, as they would be dismissed early. Overwhelmed by this betrayal and the cruel reality of their intentions, Ding Xiaorou's heart sank, and she retreated to the bathroom, sobbing uncontrollably. As the program recording was about to resume, Zhen Zheng and other staff members frantically searched for Ding Xiaorou, who was nowhere to be found.
Chi Xin, however, was patiently waiting outside the restroom, having overheard her distressed cries from within. Inside, Ding Xiaorou tried to steel herself, mentally chastising herself for being so easily affected. When she finally emerged, she apologized for her frequent bathroom breaks, attributing them to nervousness. Chi Xin offered words of encouragement, urging her to imagine the cameras and crew were merely "air" and to present her best smile to the national audience.
Gathering her courage, Ding Xiaorou stepped back onto the stage. During the dancing segment with the male guests who had received roses, her heart pounded, and she felt on the verge of fainting. Just as she faltered, one of the male guests quickly embraced her to steady her. He then dramatically removed his mask, revealing himself to be Zheng Ze.
A flashback then shows an earlier phone conversation where a staff member from the "Love sandstorm" program had informed Zheng Ze of his selection as one of the twelve candidates. When Zheng Ze inquired about Ding Xiaorou's preferred hairstyle, he was reminded that all male guests would wear masks, rendering such details irrelevant. Undeterred, Zheng Ze declared his personal motto: "Unless I don't want to win, no one can make me lose."
Episode 5 Recap
Ding Xiaorou expressed her gratitude to Zheng Ze, noting his timely appearance during her moments of difficulty. The production team then introduced their next segment: a 24-hour simulated romantic date, beginning with a "First Encounter Afternoon Tea." Chi Xin demonstrated how to deliver a romantic confession, using elaborate lines about seeing "our future" in a person's eyes and how "Butterflies in Amazon" could cause a "tsunami" in one's heart with a single movement.
Ding Xiaorou, overwhelmed by the many cameras, struggled to remember her lines. Recognizing her discomfort, Zheng Ze suggested to Chi Xin that they should reduce the number of cameras to one, making it easier for her. With fewer cameras, Ding Xiaorou relaxed and began openly sharing her past misfortunes with Zheng Ze. She recounted being harshly criticized and her 31 failed confessions, which led people online to label her a "super invincible anthomaniac" who "deserved no love."
Despite knowing the show was scripted, she harbored a tiny hope that it might break her curse and bring her love, comparing it to waiting for a ship at an airport, knowing it won't come but still wanting to wait.
Zheng Ze listened, then offered her an ice cream, metaphorically describing the black topping as the curse shrouding her, but expressing his belief that someone would eventually appear to nurture her, allowing her to "thrive, breaking out of the ground," and realize the curse never truly existed. Ding Xiaorou appreciated his comforting words and named the dessert "broken curse ice cream," toasting with Zheng Ze to its creation.
Chi Xin, observing their interaction, felt a sense of relief that his strategy for the show seemed to be working. Later that evening, as Chi Xin returned to his room, his thoughts drifted to his past relationship with Jiang Yuan. Meanwhile, Zheng Ze was escorting a drunken Ding Xiaorou back to her room when a costume designer urgently called him away for a fitting.
Left alone, Ding Xiaorou, still disoriented, encountered two male guests who had been eliminated from the show. They mocked her, making snide remarks about her past failed confessions and joking that she probably hadn't even experienced her first kiss. Angered by their taunts, Ding Xiaorou defiantly muttered to herself about having many people to kiss, though she couldn't choose.
She then mistakenly stumbled into Chi Xin’s room, took a beer from the mini-fridge, and continued to drink, still fuming over the male guests' comments. When Chi Xin emerged from the bathroom, Ding Xiaorou, completely confused and thinking it was her room, aggressively questioned his presence. Chi Xin tried to explain it was his room and urged her to go back to her own before Zhen Zheng and the crew arrived for a meeting.
Ding Xiaorou, fueled by alcohol and remembering Chi Xin's earlier dismissive comment about her being "zero experience," indignantly declared that she "did" have experience before impulsively kissing him, leaving Chi Xin utterly shocked. Just then, Zhen Zheng and other team members arrived with supper. Chi Xin, in a panic, quickly ushered the still-drunk Ding Xiaorou into the bathroom to hide her.
While trying to discuss the next day's schedule, Zhen Zheng and his colleagues joked about kissing and eating duck tongue, making Chi Xin increasingly anxious. When a muffled sound came from the bathroom, Chi Xin quickly concocted a story about arguing neighbors and turned the TV volume to maximum to drown out any further noise. As the crew complained about the loud TV, Chi Xin insisted it was his favorite football match.
Eventually, the team members started feeling unwell, attributing it to expired duck heads, and rushed to the restroom, inadvertently giving Chi Xin an excuse to send them away. After settling Ding Xiaorou, who was now asleep, Chi Xin attempted to find another room but was informed the hotel was fully booked. With no other option, he spent the entire night guarding the door outside his room.
The next morning, Ding Xiaorou awoke in Chi Xin's room, her memory of the previous night hazy. She quietly tried to slip out but ran into Zheng Ze, who was on his way to breakfast. To explain her presence, Ding Xiaorou quickly invented a story about coming to get scripts from Chi Xin.
Her lie was immediately undermined when a disheveled and yawning Chi Xin appeared in the hallway, having spent the night outside his room, leading Zheng Ze to look at them with suspicion. Ding Xiaorou, flustered, quickly excused herself. Later, as the team boarded a bus to a new filming location, Ding Xiaorou hoped to sit with Zheng Ze, but a staff member took her preferred seat, forcing her to sit next to Chi Xin.
Feeling carsick, she reached for her medicine, but a sudden bump on the road caused the bottle to fall. She quickly picked it up and, feeling drowsy, began distributing what she believed were motion sickness pills to the other staff members. Chi Xin, noticing the label, realized with alarm that she was actually dispensing his sleeping pills, while her motion sickness medication remained on the floor. Most of the crew, including Zheng Ze, soon fell into a deep sleep.
With the crew unconscious, Chi Xin, despite Ding Xiaorou offering to take responsibility, had no choice but to take over the filming. The next segment required a personal monologue on the Ferris wheel. Zheng Ze, still half-asleep, encouraged Ding Xiaorou to go first, saying he would fan her to keep her cool and reminding her that Mingzhu had called to ensure she was looked after.
On the Ferris wheel, Ding Xiaorou, still feeling guilty, apologized to Chi Xin for the mix-up with the medication. Chi Xin, acting as the director, prompted her to share her impressions of Zheng Ze. She described him as an interesting person who always appeared when she was feeling down, like a "rainbow after the rain," bringing her "surprise and happiness," and feeling like a long-lost friend. Meanwhile, the bus carrying the sleeping crew broke down on a dangerous mountain road.
Zhen Zheng, who was among the few still conscious, discovered the issue and called Chi Xin. Chi Xin, upon hearing the news, was frustrated, recalling that he had approved this "economical and affordable" route the night before while distracted by Ding Xiaorou. The remaining crew attempted to push the bus, with everyone pitching in. After Ding Xiaorou finished her segment, Chi Xin joined the effort, instructing the crew to get back on the bus once it was moved.
Episode 6 Recap
The Ferris wheel suddenly came to a halt, leaving Ding Xiaorou in a state of panic. Chi Xin quickly reassured her, helping her regain her composure. She expressed her gratitude to Chi Xin for arranging Zheng Ze as an excellent male guest for the show and for the romantic date the program team orchestrated, stating she would have no regrets even if the confession ultimately failed.
Ding Xiaorou confessed her lifelong fear of Ferris wheels, seeing them as a memorable experience reserved for couples. However, being in the stalled cabin now, she found the unexpected stop quite thrilling. Meanwhile, Zhen Zheng and Zheng Ze, along with other crew members, noticed the stopped Ferris wheel and immediately contacted the amusement park staff. The staff quickly arrived, identifying a power failure in the entire park's electrical system, which they estimated would take about an hour to restart.
Inside the stalled cabin, Ding Xiaorou found herself in a confined space with Chi Xin. She suddenly remembered impulsively kissing him last night and awkwardly apologized. Before Chi Xin could fully respond, the Ferris wheel jolted back into motion, causing Ding Xiaorou to fall asleep instantly, a symptom of her narcolepsy. Chi Xin gently caught her, put an earbud from his phone into her ear, playing music to try and rouse her from her slumber.
Once the Ferris wheel slowly descended, Chi Xin carried the still-sleeping Ding Xiaorou down. Zheng Ze rushed over, taking her into his arms and carrying her to the infirmary. Chi Xin soon followed, and finding Ding Xiaorou awake, he discussed the upcoming confession process with her. He presented two plans: a fireworks display or a firefly show.
Ding Xiaorou, feeling it was cruel to capture fireflies for human romance, chose the fireworks option and requested that any collected fireflies be released, a request Chi Xin honored. As the crew prepared, many secretly placed bets on Ding Xiaorou's confession failing, with most, including Zhen Zheng, predicting another failure, while only Chi Xin believed in her success.
He reminded Ding Xiaorou to relax during her confession, imagining the cameras and crew as fireflies, and to speak boldly from her heart. That evening, Ding Xiaorou and Zheng Ze ascended to a rooftop adorned with flowers for the confession. Ding Xiaorou conveyed her joy at meeting him and spending "the most romantic, most unique day" of her life with him.
Zheng Ze, introducing himself as her "Mr. Rainbow," encouraged her to cast aside past curses and bravely pursue her happiness. He thanked the "pirates without vision" who had previously rejected her and apologized for his own absence during her first twenty-five years and seventy-eight days. To compensate for his past absence, he presented her with a special gift. With a gentle wave, artificial snow began to fall, an unexpected change to the script that surprised the production crew.
Ding Xiaorou, who had never experienced snow as she was born in the South, was moved to tears by the magical scene. Zheng Ze then asked if she was ready to touch love, having now experienced snow. Overwhelmed, Ding Xiaorou's heart raced, and she fell asleep once again due to her narcolepsy. Nan Sa Sa and He Mingzhu congratulated Ding Xiaorou on her successful confession, believing the long-standing curse was finally broken.
Ding Xiaorou, however, felt her success was largely due to Chi Xin, who had convinced her to join the show to break the curse. He Mingzhu expressed skepticism, suggesting that the confession might merely be a "program effect" as reality shows often give different scripts to guests to create realistic, dramatic outcomes. Ding Xiaorou admitted that her script actually had her confessing to Zheng Ze, not the other way around.
Nan Sa Sa then pointed out that Zheng Ze hadn't contacted Ding Xiaorou since the show ended, which He Mingzhu deemed "abnormal" for a man in the initial stages of love. Feeling disheartened, Ding Xiaorou wondered if Zheng Ze's confession was simply out of pity and if her curse was truly unbroken, leading them to decide they would directly ask Zheng Ze for the truth.
Meanwhile, Zheng Ze arrived late at work at noon, but his colleague, Zhen Jie, covered for him, telling Lucy that she had seen him earlier. Lucy then assigned Zheng Ze the task of designing a window display for the ZV brand and asked for a list of suitable designers. Zheng Ze immediately suggested Ding Xiaorou, highlighting ZV's "gorgeous and romantic" aesthetic as a perfect fit for her style.
However, Lucy firmly rejected Ding Xiaorou's involvement, stating that she had reviewed her work and found it unsuitable, insisting that Zheng Ze complete the project independently. Chi Xin and his team were reviewing the footage, noting that Zheng Ze's unscheduled artificial snowfall during the confession was not only expensive but also revealed the stage equipment. They soon received news that a sponsor was dissatisfied and demanded a reshoot of the confession scene.
Chi Xin met with Mr. Mao, the sponsor, attempting to persuade him with ten alternative post-production plans, arguing that love's eternal beauty could be conveyed through editing. However, Mr. Mao, a stubborn man, believed that the true essence of love lay in its "irrationality and uncontrollable power," requiring an "unexpected confession" to truly resonate, thus he insisted on a reshoot. Frustrated, Chi Xin returned to his team, reminding them to always have backup plans.
He then found Ding Xiaorou, who was still trying to compose a message to Zheng Ze, and informed her that a reshoot was scheduled for the next morning. Despite her initial reluctance due to work commitments, Chi Xin convinced her by mentioning that Zheng Ze would also be there. He also suggested she apply some makeup for the reshoot instead of appearing barefaced.
Episode 7 Recap
The next morning, Ding Xiaorou struggled to get out of bed. Zheng Ze, meanwhile, received a notification for a reshoot and a thank-you message from Ding Xiaorou. He arrived at the company to find Lucy proudly showcasing her "Snow Country Rainbow" window design. Zheng Ze immediately recognized it as Ding Xiaorou's work and confronted Lucy, accusing her of plagiarism. Lucy countered that it was a commissioned work, and its ownership belonged to the company.
She presented an entrustment contract containing supplementary agreements and Ding Xiaorou's signature, claiming the creative concept was hers, and Ding Xiaorou had only handled the "rough work." Zheng Ze called it sophistry, but Lucy, asserting her position as his superior, told him to correct his attitude before dismissing him. Alone, Lucy scoffed that these young people were "too tender" to challenge her. Ding Xiaorou eventually woke up late and rushed to the reshoot, arriving in her casual clothes.
Chi Xin, clearly displeased, admonished her for her unreliability but then presented her with a dress and a ring, falsely claiming they were from the sponsor. He helped her put on the ring. Meanwhile, Zheng Ze made rounds to various newsstands, buying up all the copies of "Fashion" magazine that featured the "Snow Country Rainbow" design, then paid a waste collector to dispose of them far away.
At the program set, Chi Xin explained to Ding Xiaorou and Zheng Ze that they were filming an "egg" segment, simulating their first date after the show. He emphasized that the previous confession lacked a crucial line from the female participant: "I am willing," which was vital for the sponsor. He lamented that the program team was "not far from bankruptcy."
Ding Xiaorou, still reeling from the actual confession, asked Chi Xin if her experience was merely a "program effect" and if his script matched Zheng Ze's. Chi Xin evaded the question, only stating the ring was from the sponsor. Backstage, Zheng Ze found a copy of "Fashion" magazine on Chi Xin's desk and quickly hid it in the restroom.
Soon after, Nan Sasa called Ding Xiaorou to alert her that Lucy had stolen her window design, which had now been published in a magazine. Ding Xiaorou frantically searched local bookstalls, only to find the magazine sold out. She eventually found a copy in a waste collector's cart and, upon seeing Lucy's name credited for "Snow Country Rainbow," remembered signing an entrustment contract for the design, realizing she had been tricked.
In a flashback, Lucy had slyly presented Ding Xiaorou with a "supplementary agreement" for the previous window design, claiming a missing signature spot, while also offering her an advance for a new "ZV design." Ding Xiaorou, trusting Lucy, had signed without thoroughly reading it. Overwhelmed by anger and frustration, Ding Xiaorou cried out, feeling like her hard work, like "vegetables" she had painstakingly grown, had been stolen just as they were about to "blossom and bear fruit."
She also mentioned wanting to throw the 5,000 yuan advance she received from Lucy back in her face, but she couldn't because she had already used her money to pay off her debts. Chi Xin comforted her, acknowledging her pain, comparing it to his own struggles, like endless reshoots or coordinating venues for no-shows. He encouraged her to "plant again," assuring her she would grow something even better next time.
Just then, Zheng Ze appeared, misunderstanding Chi Xin's consoling gesture as an inappropriate advance and forcefully pushed Chi Xin's hand away. Ding Xiaorou quickly clarified the situation. Reassured, Chi Xin helped them complete the reshoot, during which Ding Xiaorou delivered the required "I am willing." After filming, Ding Xiaorou and Zheng Ze had dinner and then went home separately. Chi Xin and his team had worked "another overnight" to finalize the program.
The next morning, Ding Xiaorou went to the company to return the ring to Chi Xin, which she had discovered was very valuable online and considered selling to pay her debts. Chi Xin took the ring but insisted she keep it as a "souvenir," falsely claiming the "props teacher wholesale" them for "fifteen yuan each." Chi Xin then invited Ding Xiaorou to join his team for a celebratory meal.
At the gathering, the team members expressed their sadness at the thought of disbanding after the show, toasting Chi Xin and calling him a "good man" despite his quirks. Amidst heavy drinking, Ding Xiaorou excused herself to the restroom, where she unexpectedly saw Lucy and Wang Te. She tried to avoid them, but Lucy spotted her.
Lucy, arm-in-arm with Wang Te, confronted Ding Xiaorou, mockingly asking why she was there and suggesting she was being fickle, having sent love letters one day and now supposedly with a rich boyfriend. Just as Lucy began insulting Ding Xiaorou, Chi Xin emerged from the restroom. Seeing Ding Xiaorou's distress, she explicitly pleaded for his help. Understanding the situation, Chi Xin put his arm around her, playing along as her boyfriend, and suggested they return to their friends.
Lucy, however, continued her taunts, advising Wang Te not to associate with "cat or dog" women like Ding Xiaorou, but eventually left with Wang Te, stating she needed to "stay elegant." Ding Xiaorou thanked Chi Xin for his timely intervention. Back at the table, Ding Xiaorou, deeply intoxicated, messaged Nan Sasa for help, giving her the address. Nan Sasa, having just finished a surgery, immediately set off for the bar.
Meanwhile, at a different company party, Lucy was promoting her "Snow Country Rainbow" design. When a colleague commented on the noticeable shift in her design style, Lucy quickly changed the subject, claiming that "only by changing can we keep our youth forever." As Nan Sasa rushed to the bar to help Ding Xiaorou, she accidentally collided with someone, falling into a man's arms.
Episode 8 Recap
Lucy gracefully took the stage, first thanking everyone for attending her celebration and then announcing it was also Zheng Ze's welcome party. She claimed Zheng Ze provided significant help with her design. When she asked him to speak, Zheng Ze politely declined, citing shyness. After her speech, Lucy privately confronted Zheng Ze, asking his opinion of the meticulously planned banquet. Zheng Ze found it quite good but excused himself early, explaining that his father had a family dinner.
Lucy insisted on escorting him, but he declined, wishing her to enjoy the party. As Zheng Ze left, SA Yi, who was watching Lucy, described her as beautiful. Outside, Zheng Ze narrowly saved SA Yi from colliding with a waiter, catching her just in time. SA Yi was captivated by his strong arms, dorsal muscle, and unique perfume, rating him a "ninety-point man" and hoping for a "hundred-point" encounter in the restaurant's good aura.
Zheng Ze gently advised her to be careful before departing. SA Yi, alone, mused about finding her "full marks" man. SA Yi headed to the restroom, where she overheard Lucy's friend calling, reminding her of her award-winning fashion magazine celebration. Lucy confirmed she would be out soon. Seeing an opportunity for revenge on behalf of Ding Xiaorou, SA Yi ""deliberately"" splashed water on Lucy, making her makeup run. Lucy, furious, called SA Yi "crazy" as her makeup was ruined.
SA Yi then found Ding Xiaorou, who was heavily intoxicated and babbling incoherently. SA Yi helped her sit down, urging her to drink some water. SA Yi excitedly recounted how she had retaliated against Lucy in the restroom. However, Ding Xiaorou criticized her actions, saying they should be honorable and not lower their standards just because others act wrongly.
SA Yi argued that Lucy did not use honorable means against Ding Xiaorou, warning that if Ding Xiaorou remained passive, Lucy would continue to bully her. Ding Xiaorou, now defiant, declared she wouldn't be easily exploited and vowed to take severe revenge.
In a drunken haze, Ding Xiaorou fantasized about a public trial where Lucy, depicted as a "gray wolf," confessed to sneaking into "Big Red Hat's" (Ding Xiaorou's proxy) house, stealing her grandmother (symbolic for her work), and plagiarizing her "original" window design for the fashion magazine award. Lucy attributed her actions to jealousy of Big Red Hat's youth, talent, and popularity.
The judge, Ding Xiaorou, then stripped "gray wolf Lucy" of her award, confiscated all prize money, and banned her from the industry until she could create original work comparable to Big Red Hat's. Ding Xiaorou, ecstatic, celebrated her victory. SA Yi noted that Ding Xiaorou had fallen asleep again, explaining to Chi Xin that Ding Xiaorou experiences narcolepsy when her emotions run high.
Chi Xin, upon learning that Lucy had impersonated Ding Xiaorou's work, understood Ding Xiaorou's distress, acknowledging the immense effort put into each step of the design. Meanwhile, at the party, Lucy continued to boast about her "Snow country Rainbow" window design, claiming it incorporated the Swire Group's business philosophy and exemplified her commitment to elegance and beauty as the brand's creative director.
As a large celebratory cake was brought in, SA Yi intercepted it from a waiter, citing Lucy's strict temper about its placement. SA Yi then deliberately stepped on Lucy's dress, causing her to lose balance and fall face-first into the cake, creating a messy spectacle. As Lucy cried out about her eyes, Chi Xin, from a distance, deployed a drone to create further chaos. SA Yi loudly exclaimed, "There are eagles!"
panic ensued, and a disoriented Lucy stumbled, falling into the swimming pool. Wang Te rushed to rescue her. Dripping wet, Lucy angrily confronted the hotel manager, who stated her fall was a personal accident, not the restaurant's fault. Lucy threatened to leave negative online reviews if they didn't apologize. Wang Te tried to calm her, but Lucy insisted someone deliberately harmed her, demanding everyone present shout "There are eagles" to identify the culprit. Guests reluctantly complied.
SA Yi then discreetly led her friends away from the scene. SA Yi, feigning a need to return to the hospital for overtime, asked Chi Xin to take the unconscious Ding Xiaorou home. Chi Xin agreed, ""carrying"" Ding Xiaorou ""on his back"". As they walked, they encountered Jiang Yuan, who offered them a ride.
Chi Xin politely declined, stating Ding Xiaorou, being asleep, shouldn't be exposed to the wind, and placed Ding Xiaorou into Jiang Yuan's waiting taxi before calling another for himself. In his taxi, Chi Xin listened to Ding Xiaorou's drunken ramblings about her stolen window design and her refusal to give up. He added three hundred yuan to the fare to cover any potential messes. Upon reaching Ding Xiaorou's apartment building, Chi Xin left her at her doorstep.
Concerned for her safety, he returned and sat down beside her to wait. Security guards, observing on surveillance, speculated about the nature of their relationship. The next morning, Chi Xin returned home to wash up. Ding Xiaorou awoke, feeling sore and confused about how she got home, initially wondering if Chi Xin, living nearby, had brought her back. She quickly dismissed the idea, believing Chi Xin wouldn't be so kind to her.
Just then, Zheng Ze called, asking if she had woken up. He casually mentioned knowing she had slept for a long time and that her sleeping posture was likely to blame for her soreness. Ding Xiaorou, mistakenly thinking he must have seen her sleeping and brought her home, felt bad for making him worry.
She offered to treat him to ice cream, and Zheng Ze, claiming he was just about to look for her, suggested he take her to a special place after she rested. Ding Xiaorou agreed, happy to have such a thoughtful friend. Meanwhile, Chi Xin arrived at a building, seeking to meet with editor-in-chief Jiang Yuan without an appointment. When informed she was busy, he left a music festival ticket, calling it his "message."
Jiang Yuan received the ticket and was transported back to a memory from their college days. In the flashback, it was raining, and Chi Xin had deliberately dropped his umbrella to share hers, asking if she would also share her music. Back in the present, Jiang Yuan canceled the express delivery she was about to send. At his office, Chi Xin's team members observed him intently planning a date.
Chi Xin revealed he was booking a foreign restaurant, a place he had once promised to take Jiang Yuan. His team questioned if he had reconciled with Jiang Yuan, and one encouraged him to make a "last fight" for their seven-year relationship, emphasizing Jiang Yuan's maturity and the time she had invested in him. Separately, SA Yi was performing surgery on a wedding dress shop owner.
During a phone call, she briefly spoke to a colleague named William about Lucy being a significant client. Overhearing the conversation, the wedding dress shop owner revealed that Lucy, a director at the Swire Group, was getting married to her boyfriend Wang Te and was coming to pick out a wedding dress after having already chosen the rings. Hearing this, SA Yi abruptly ended the surgery. Rushing to find Ding Xiaorou, she hailed a taxi. In her haste to exit, her bag strap got caught in the door, and she was dragged a short distance before falling, once again, into Zheng Ze's arms.
Episode 9 Recap
Nan Sasa found herself in Zheng Ze's arms, having fallen after her bag strap got caught in a taxi door. Recognizing him, she noted the coincidence and attempted to add him on WeChat, but he quickly disappeared. As Nan Sasa prepared to leave, she spotted Lucy and Wang Te walking hand-in-hand and discreetly followed them into a bridal shop.
Meanwhile, Ding Xiaorou went downstairs to dispose of trash, where a security guard warned her to be careful when drinking, as she might attract unwanted attention. Puzzled, Ding Xiaorou was then met by an exuberant Nan Sasa, who informed her that Lucy and Wang Te were preparing to marry. Nan Sasa excitedly recounted her "great victory" in retrieving Ding Xiaorou's design fee, stating that she had helped Ding Xiaorou get back the "unjust wealth" Lucy had taken.
Ding Xiaorou, however, already knew about Lucy and Wang Te being together. Nan Sasa then vividly described her confrontation with Lucy, whom she called a "little wolf dog" and "bad woman." At the bridal shop, Lucy was furious to find that the wedding dress she had admired was now being worn by Nan Sasa. A sales assistant explained that Lucy hadn't paid a deposit, giving other customers the right to purchase it.
A fierce bidding war ensued between Nan Sasa and Lucy, with each raising the price significantly. Lucy ultimately purchased the dress at an exorbitant cost. Afterward, a sales assistant discreetly thanked Nan Sasa, revealing that the additional money paid by Lucy was arranged to go to Nan Sasa, a move orchestrated by William. Feeling triumphant, Nan Sasa expressed her gratitude to her "prime minister" for his ingenious help.
She also gloated about Lucy's recent misfortune, including falling into a swimming pool. Ding Xiaorou met Zheng Ze for their first date. They visited a familiar scenic spot where they once filmed a show, enjoying its beauty in the daylight before going boating and taking pictures. Feeling grateful for his company, Ding Xiaorou offered to treat Zheng Ze to ice cream.
During their conversation, Zheng Ze revealed that his favorite anime is "One Piece," which he watches whenever he's feeling down. He also shared his passion for collecting "One Piece" merchandise, including coral fleece blankets, pillows, and cushions featuring Luffy. Ding Xiaorou realized that these details matched the items he had given her, confirming his identity. Zheng Ze also confided his dream of finishing "One Piece" before he turns thirty.
While on their date, volunteers from the China Children and Teenagers’ Foundation approached them, selling "love balloons" to support left-behind children. Ding Xiaorou bought a blue balloon. Zheng Ze took a flyer and, seeing an advertisement for a charity window design competition, encouraged Ding Xiaorou to participate, recognizing it as an opportunity related to her dream of window design. That evening, Chi Xin waited at a romantic restaurant he specially booked to meet Jiang Yuan, hoping to rekindle their relationship.
Jiang Yuan arrived late, prompting Chi Xin to reflect on their past. He recalled their first French dinner six years ago, where his work demands made her unhappy. He sincerely apologized for not being considerate of her feelings and for failing to fulfill many promises, such as visiting the Twelve Disciples, dining at the Underwater Restaurant in Norway, or attending a concert together.
Jiang Yuan, while appreciating his efforts in planning the dinner, returned the concert tickets he had sent, stating that some things change and she never actually liked that music. She explained their breakup was not due to a third party but because they had become incompatible. She felt their relationship was "too tiring" because he calculated everything based on her supposed preferences, and she, in turn, tried to adopt his.
She declared that she no longer needs him to understand her. Jiang Yuan then left, leaving a distraught Chi Xin alone. To cope with his pain, he ordered numerous ice creams. Chi Xin later found himself by the riverside. Holding a string of balloons, he mused that happiness is an expensive commodity, not easily obtained from simple inflated rubber. He reflected that, like balloons, love can "oxidize and degrade," and perhaps letting go now would preserve the good memories.
He decided it’s time to say goodbye to his seven-year-ago self and released the balloons, symbolically letting go of his feelings for Jiang Yuan. After Zheng Ze escorted Ding Xiaorou home, reminding her to register for the window display competition, she excitedly called Nan Sasa to boast about her first date. Nan Sasa, eager for details and photos, was told by Ding Xiaorou to come to her place tomorrow to watch the program they filmed.
Nan Sasa then enthusiastically recounted her own two "romantic encounters" with a "high-scoring man" whom she described as "on the verge of extinction," believing she must "grab" him. As she passionately spoke, a trailer for Ding Xiaorou's program began playing on the TV, featuring Zheng Ze. Nan Sasa was utterly dumbfounded as she recognized her "romantic encounter" man, Zheng Ze, as the same man who just had a date with Ding Xiaorou.
Episode 10 Recap
Ding Xiaorou enthusiastically recounted her first date with Zheng Ze to SA Yi, describing him as very handsome and asking SA Yi for her opinion. SA Yi, masking her true feelings, gave Zheng Ze a high score of "90 bar" but asserted she only settles for "100 points," secretly heartbroken that her crush was dating her best friend.
Later, when Ding Xiaorou showed SA Yi a photo of Zheng Ze, SA Yi commented that Zheng Ze must like Ding Xiaorou very much to capture her so beautifully, but then sarcastically attributed the good photo to a "Nice Beauty Camera." Meanwhile, Chi Xin's program, "Love Sandstorm," only achieved a 0. 9 rating, far below his promise.
Tong Liang publicly mocked Chi Xin's low ratings, even bringing his team to sarcastically congratulate Chi Xin and remind everyone of Chi Xin's promise to reach a rating of two. Zhen Zheng stood up for Chi Xin, urging Tong Liang to calm down. Ding Xiaorou, however, became an internet sensation, dubbed the "Curse Girl," after her segment aired. Female colleagues queued up to ask her to confess to their boyfriends, hoping her "curse" would ironically strengthen their relationships.
Male colleagues also sought her "curse" to find true love. Ding Xiaorou was overwhelmed by the attention, but Zheng Ze arrived just in time to rescue her from the eager crowd. After Ding Xiaorou's popularity soared, SA Yi called her to meet at He Mingzhu's coffee shop. Ding Xiaorou brought Zheng Ze along. At the same time, the Director praised Chi Xin's program for its online popularity, acknowledging its high internet search rankings despite the low TV ratings.
The Director gave Chi Xin the green light and full financial support for the next episode and advised Tong Liang to learn from Chi Xin, much to Tong Liang's resentment. Overhearing colleagues praise Chi Xin's program and Ding Xiaorou's "Curse Girl" segment, Tong Liang seethed and ominously hinted at having his own "Plan B." At the coffee shop, as Zheng Ze went to buy ice cream, Ding Xiaorou joined He Mingzhu and SA Yi.
They congratulated Ding Xiaorou on her newfound fame. To avoid an awkward encounter with Zheng Ze, SA Yi quickly hid in the restroom. Zheng Ze returned with ice cream but had to leave for an urgent company matter. Only then did SA Yi emerge, claiming stomach discomfort.
The three friends then collaborated to create a new ice cream, with He Mingzhu suggesting creative names like "Curse Ice Cream" and "Can't Fall in Love Ice Cream," while Ding Xiaorou proposed "Love Ice Cream" and "Encounter Ice Cream." That night, Ding Xiaorou left a heartfelt thank you note at Chi Xin's door, expressing her gratitude for the positive changes he brought to her life, including her unexpected popularity and the public's love for her ice cream.
Chi Xin found the note the next morning, appreciating her gratitude, and left a note in return. Later, Ding Xiaorou was woken by a frantic call from He Mingzhu, reporting that the coffee shop was flooded with customers eager to buy "Love Ice Cream." Ding Xiaorou rushed over, where a mob of fans surrounded her for photos and requests to be "cursed." SA Yi helped maintain order as they struggled to manage the overwhelming crowd.
After a long ordeal, the customers were finally dispersed. He Mingzhu remarked on her experience as an "internet celebrity shopkeeper," and SA Yi jokingly suggested Ding Xiaorou enter the entertainment industry. Later, Zheng Ze messaged Ding Xiaorou, delighted that the ice cream was popular, and arranged to meet her at the Sisyphus bookstore the next morning.
However, early the next day, Zhen Zheng discovered a video online that appeared to show Ding Xiaorou entering Chi Xin's hotel room late at night, fabricating a "hidden rules" scandal. The video quickly went viral, causing an uproar. Chi Xin, convinced Tong Liang was behind it, confronted him, demanding he clarify the truth.
Tong Liang vehemently denied involvement, twisted Chi Xin's words, and provoked Chi Xin, threatening to publish a headline about "Night Gate Hero Chi Xin, Angered by Embarrassment, Beats Up Staff" if Chi Xin were to strike him. Chi Xin, despite his rage, held back. Worried about Ding Xiaorou and unable to reach her, Chi Xin learned from Zhen Zheng that she was meeting Zheng Ze at the bookstore and rushed there.
Ding Xiaorou, realizing her phone was dead just as she was leaving, proceeded to the bookstore. There, she was met with strange looks from customers. When she tried to borrow a power bank, a woman verbally abused her and splashed water on her, accusing her of seeking fame and seducing men. Overwhelmed and shocked, Ding Xiaorou suffered a narcolepsy attack. Fortunately, Chi Xin arrived just in time, scooping her into his arms and carrying her out.
Zheng Ze, having seen the incriminating video, was running to the bookstore, anxious about Ding Xiaorou. He encountered Chi Xin carrying her out and quickly took her, bringing her home where SA Yi was waiting. SA Yi, seeing Ding Xiaorou in distress, angrily confronted Zheng Ze for failing to protect her. Ding Xiaorou, still recovering, defended Zheng Ze, saying he had saved her from falling asleep in the street.
Zheng Ze then entrusted Ding Xiaorou to SA Yi's care before leaving. Back at the company, the Director reprimanded Chi Xin for the "unspoken rules" scandal and the alleged assault on Tong Liang. Despite Chi Xin's protests, the Director suspended him indefinitely pending an investigation. Chi Xin tasked Zhen Zheng and his team with finding the hotel's surveillance footage, only to discover it had all been deleted, confirming Tong Liang's malicious intent.
Determined to clear his name, Chi Xin decided to personally search for surveillance from surrounding hotels, while instructing his team to monitor online public opinion and guide netizens toward rational thinking. SA Yi canceled her work for two days to stay with and comfort Ding Xiaorou, who was distraught. Ding Xiaorou, hearing about the missing surveillance, suspected foul play.
While SA Yi went out to buy her favorite "Dai Fei ice cream" as a distraction, Ding Xiaorou secretly left to find evidence herself. Meanwhile, Zheng Ze, taking proactive steps, enlisted professionals to conduct an in-depth online analysis of the "Night Gate" scandal, supporting Chi Xin and Ding Xiaorou by exposing flaws in the doctored video. Chi Xin successfully obtained surveillance video evidence from a Japanese restaurant opposite the hotel, capturing clear footage of the incident.
As he prepared to return to the company for a press conference, Ding Xiaorou also arrived at the same hotel seeking evidence. The hotel staff informed her that a tall man with big eyes, whom she recognized as Chi Xin, had already been there to review the footage. Shortly after these events, Zheng Ze contacted SA Yi, attempting to confess his feelings for her.
He explicitly stated that he had "nothing to do with that Ding Xiaorou" and that "she just wishfully insists on sticking to me." He then asked SA Yi to be his girlfriend. Disgusted by his words and his dismissal of Ding Xiaorou, SA Yi fiercely rejected him, calling him "trash" and asserting that "Ding Xiaorou is such a nice girl, how could she fall for trash like you?"
Episode 11 Recap
Chi Xin and Ding Xiaorou were leaving the hotel where they had successfully secured surveillance video evidence to refute the "Night gate" scandal. Ding Xiaorou, who had taken the initiative to find the crucial evidence, playfully remarked on the "double surprise": her innocence was now guaranteed, and she even managed to get a free ride back. Chi Xin, though initially peeved that she hadn't informed him of her presence, acknowledged her ingenuity. As they drove, the car's navigation system malfunctioned.
Ding Xiaorou confidently offered to guide Chi Xin, asserting her superior memory for roads, especially since mobile phone signals would be nonexistent on the mountain roads. Chi Xin, skeptical, nevertheless followed her directions. However, her guidance proved unreliable, and they soon found themselves lost in the mountains with no cell service and dwindling fuel. As night fell, Chi Xin decided it was safer to wait until dawn.
Looking up through the open sunroof at the sparkling stars, Ding Xiaorou began musing about window design, imagining the car as a beautiful display and the stars as fleeting passers-by. She then shared a poignant thought about mannequins in facing windows, loving each other but unable to move or speak, calling it the "saddest story in the world." She concluded that despite life's challenges, the act of pursuing one's true desires, regardless of the outcome, was inherently fulfilling.
Ding Xiaorou eventually drifted off to sleep, and Chi Xin thoughtfully draped his jacket over her. Later, she awoke to find him with a high fever, unconscious. Frantically, she tore strips from her skirt and used mineral water to try and cool him down, but his temperature remained dangerously high, leaving her in utter despair. Back in the city, the press conference to address the "Night gate" controversy was about to begin, but Chi Xin was nowhere to be found.
Zhen Zheng was deeply worried, as Chi Xin had only left a message about poor signal in the mountains. The team feared a public relations disaster without him or concrete evidence. After frantically trying to cool Chi Xin down with no success, Ding Xiaorou managed to run to the main road, flag down a car, and drive Chi Xin back to the city.
Tong Liang, gleefully watching the chaos, tried to stir up the media, urging them to leave due to the lack of an explanation. Just then, Zheng Ze arrived and boldly addressed the reporters, declaring that the "Night gate data" circulating online was "pure fabrication" after personally reviewing it. However, the journalists remained unconvinced, questioning his objectivity as a fellow show participant and demanding more substantial proof, suggesting his public affections for Ding Xiaorou might be scripted.
At this critical moment, Chi Xin burst in, having just arrived. He presented surveillance footage from the Japanese restaurant opposite the hotel, which clearly showed him leaving and re-entering the hotel lobby at 3:16 AM to get food, proving he was not in his room when Ding Xiaorou was there. Chi Xin then exposed the suspicious deletion of the original hotel surveillance as a malicious act by "people with ulterior motives" aiming to "smear opponents."
His compelling presentation swayed the media, who now understood the truth. Immediately after the press conference, Ding Xiaorou approached Chi Xin, insisting he go to the hospital. Zheng Ze also offered to take Ding Xiaorou home. She thanked Zheng Ze for his "righteous words" that cleared their names, but politely declined his offer, wishing to avoid any more gossip. Chi Xin, downplaying his fever, had Zhen Zheng take him home.
That night, while Ding Xiaorou struggled with her window design, repeatedly tearing up her drafts, Chi Xin pondered Ding Xiaorou's torn skirt, a testament to her efforts to help him, and considered visiting her to express his gratitude but ultimately hesitated at her door. The next morning, the Director summoned Chi Xin, acknowledging his successful handling of the crisis. However, he sternly reminded Chi Xin of the importance of avoiding negative publicity due to sponsor agreements.
The Director presented Chi Xin with an ultimatum: either the company would face a massive fine for negative marketing, or Ding Xiaorou and Zheng Ze would have to sign a "confidentiality agreement," referred to as the """Rou Ze couple""" agreement, ensuring no further negative news during the show. Chi Xin was given one day to make a decision.
Meanwhile, hearing of her difficulties, Zheng Ze took her to a mall late at night, using his connections to let them in so she could study the window displays. Their unexpected presence triggered a brief chase with a security guard before Zheng Ze explained the situation. Later that night, Ding Xiaorou brought fever medicine to Chi Xin's apartment, chiding him for neglecting his health.
She lamented her continued lack of design inspiration, while Chi Xin hinted at his own ongoing work. Chi Xin thanked her for the medicine and for helping "Turn the Tide" at the press conference. He then suggested she find inspiration in "last night's starry sky" for her window design. This sparked an idea for Ding Xiaorou, who worked tirelessly through the night and finally completed a design she was satisfied with.
The following morning, Chi Xin presented Ding Xiaorou with the "confidentiality agreement," explaining that signing it would mean sacrificing her right to "free love" for the six-month duration of the """Rou Ze couple""" contract.
Episode 12 Recap
Previously, Chi Xin drove Ding Xiaorou back to the city, but their car navigation failed, leading them to get lost in the mountains. Stranded without phone signal and low on fuel, they decided to wait until morning. As they looked at the stars, Ding Xiaorou spoke enthusiastically about window design before falling asleep, and Chi Xin covered her with his jacket. Later, Ding Xiaorou discovered Chi Xin had a high fever and was unconscious.
She tore her skirt and used mineral water to try and cool him down. Meanwhile, a press conference awaited Chi Xin. His assistant Zhen Zheng couldn't reach him, and a rival, Tong Liang, gloated about his absence. Ding Xiaorou eventually managed to stop a car and transport Chi Xin back to the city. Zheng Ze arrived at the press conference first, publicly clarifying that a video implying an overnight stay was fabricated.
Chi Xin then rushed in, presenting surveillance footage from a nearby hotel that proved he was not in the room when Ding Xiaorou went there, and highlighted that deleted surveillance was a malicious act, thus revealing the truth to the reporters. After the press conference, Ding Xiaorou insisted on taking Chi Xin to the hospital, but he preferred to go home with Zhen Zheng.
Ding Xiaorou thanked Zheng Ze for his integrity in clearing their names, but politely declined his offer to drive her home to avoid further gossip. That night, Ding Xiaorou struggled with her window design project. Chi Xin, seeing her torn skirt, considered visiting her to express gratitude but hesitated at her door.
The next morning, Chi Xin's director informed him that he would not be held accountable, but required Ding Xiaorou and Zheng Ze to sign an agreement to prevent future negative publicity during the show's broadcast, or Chi Xin would face significant penalties. He was given one day to consider.
Learning about Ding Xiaorou's design difficulties, Zheng Ze secretly took her to a mall at night to study window displays, using a key to enter, which led to them being chased by security. Ding Xiaorou brought fever medicine to Chi Xin. He suggested she use the starry night as inspiration for her window design, which deeply inspired her. She worked all night and successfully completed her satisfactory window display.
Ding Xiaorou carefully read the terms of the couple's agreement for the "Rouze couple" program. It stated a six-month signing period during which she would lose all rights to free love, and her daily life, including food, clothing, housing, and transportation, would be subject to various restrictions. However, the agreement also promised a monthly payment of 20,000 yuan. Ding Xiaorou was ecstatic, immediately asking if the contract could be extended to a year or even the maximum legal duration.
Chi Xin tried to dissuade her, questioning if she would sacrifice her personal freedom for a mere 20,000 yuan. Ding Xiaorou argued that getting paid for a relationship was too good to refuse. Chi Xin then gave her an ultimatum, reminding her that the contract was only for six months. Ding Xiaorou asked if Zheng Ze would also sign, and Chi Xin confirmed that Zheng Ze was in the next room, with Zhen Zheng handling his signing.
Soon after, Zheng Ze joined them, expressing his hope for a "happy cooperation in the next half year" and asking Ding Xiaorou to "take care of me." SA Yi learned from a colleague that online posts claimed Zheng Ze was a rich second-generation, providing photos from his time studying abroad as proof. Delighted, SA Yi called Ding Xiaorou, who mentioned Zheng Ze was taking her to dinner. SA Yi eagerly joined them.
During dinner, SA Yi scrutinized Zheng Ze, noting his simple clothes and their choice of spicy hot pot. She privately concluded that he didn't resemble a rich second-generation and dismissed the rumors as her own overthinking. Ding Xiaorou, celebrating her new agreement with Zheng Ze and the incoming payment, shared her desire to attend a concert, explaining that it was her "source of inspiration" but tickets were sold out, with only expensive scalper tickets possibly available. Zheng Ze listened intently.
Before leaving for a three-day business trip, SA Yi suggested Ding Xiaorou buy Zheng Ze tickets to the music festival as a thank you for his past help. She also revealed that Chi Xin had two tickets. Late that night, Ding Xiaorou knocked on Chi Xin's door, feigning a visit to deliver fresh fruit. She then brought up the music festival tickets, claiming to have heard he possessed two.
Chi Xin initially denied it but, upon learning she intended to take Zheng Ze, dramatically raised his price. Ding Xiaorou argued that it would be beneficial for both their program and for him as a producer if she and Zheng Ze attended together. She offered 1,800 yuan for two tickets, but Chi Xin, citing supply and demand, increased the price to 5,000 yuan.
Offended, Ding Xiaorou accused him of extortion, but Chi Xin countered that he was not forcing her to buy and she had the right to refuse. Ding Xiaorou decided to consider her options, asking him to hold the tickets until noon the next day. The next morning, Ding Xiaorou received a flash delivery containing music festival tickets. Believing SA Yi had sent them, she called her for the sign-in code. However, SA Yi denied sending any tickets.
Soon after, Zheng Ze called, revealing he had acquired the two tickets, describing it as a "you can lie down and win" situation, and told her to meet him at the music festival venue at 6 PM. At the festival, Ding Xiaorou enthusiastically thanked Zheng Ze for managing to secure such coveted tickets in excellent seats.
During a pre-show "Kiss Time" game, where a camera would randomly select couples to kiss, the spotlight landed on Ding Xiaorou, Zheng Ze, and, to her surprise, Chi Xin, who was seated right beside them. As both Zheng Ze and Chi Xin leaned in to kiss Ding Xiaorou, she instinctively dodged, resulting in the two men accidentally kissing each other, much to the audience's uproarious amusement.
After the music festival, Ding Xiaorou left in a pre-arranged car, while Zheng Ze awkwardly tried to address Chi Xin. Back home, feeling unsettled by the incident, Ding Xiaorou searched online for characteristics of gay men. She found common traits included mild cleanliness obsession, attentiveness to fashion and appearance, and a sensitive, sometimes neurotic disposition.
She recalled several instances that seemed to fit Chi Xin: his meticulousness about garbage sorting, his habit of checking his reflection, and his dramatic reaction when she gossiped. Her internal "evidence" grew stronger. Her suspicions were further fueled when Chi Xin frantically knocked on her door, revealing that a burst pipe in her apartment had flooded his downstairs unit, submerging his bedding and floor for over eight hours.
He grimly estimated that the entire floor might need replacing, a costly endeavor. Chi Xin then had to stay at Ding Xiaorou's place, sleeping on her sofa. Feeling responsible, Ding Xiaorou offered to clean up his apartment and handle the repairs. Chi Xin, however, insisted she hand-wash his soaked items without detergent and be mindful of the weather when drying. He also demanded official invoices with stamps for all repair costs.
Ding Xiaorou spent the entire night cleaning Chi Xin's flooded apartment. The next morning, Zhen Zheng, following a recommendation from SA Yi via He Mingzhu, presented Chi Xin with a potential male guest for their show: an effeminate man who sold wedding dresses and had previously helped Ding Xiaorou. At the cafe, Chi Xin gave the man a short meeting before rejecting him.
While in the cafe, Ding Xiaorou called Zhen Zheng, who was with Chi Xin, and learned that Chi Xin was looking for a male guest "like Zheng Ze from the last episode." Simultaneously, Ding Xiaorou observed the effeminate guest caressing Chi Xin's hand. This combination of events solidified her belief that Chi Xin was gay.
Chi Xin, after dismissing the guest, made a cryptic remark to Zhen Zheng, gesturing towards him and stating that the male guest he was looking for was "far in the sky, near in front of you."
Episode 13 Recap
Chi Xin was harassed by a male guest, who declared he was looking for Chi Xin himself, not just another male guest for the show. Chi Xin fled in a panic, only to receive a call from a repairman. He rushed home, where the repairman informed him that his damaged floor could not be fixed that day and would require reinstallation, taking about a week before he could move back in.
With nowhere else to go, Chi Xin called Ding Xiaorou. He explained his floor damage and offered her three plans, implying she would be responsible for his alternative accommodation. Ding Xiaorou, however, proposed a "sharing economy" solution, suggesting he stay at her place since she owed him money and couldn't afford a five-star hotel. She insisted they were "good sisters," much to Chi Xin's bewilderment, who clarified they were "good neighbors."
Ding Xiaorou then laid out five rules for their "Housing Sharing" period, declaring herself "Party A" with priority use of all appliances, assigning him the sofa, floor, or even the bathroom to sleep in, prohibiting physical contact or touching her belongings, and demanding that he, as "Party B," provide breakfast and dinner. Chi Xin begrudgingly accepted, although he found her rules overbearing and like living in a hotel. That evening, with no other ingredients available, Chi Xin prepared instant noodles.
Ding Xiaorou was astonished by his meticulousness, watching him add plums to the noodles and calling him more attentive than "straight men." She declared that he had "successfully captured her" with the meal and from now on they were "good sisters," prompting Chi Xin to once again correct her, "Good neighbors."
Chi Xin remarked that the meal was a free lesson, but Ding Xiaorou countered, saying it was her treat on their first day of sharing, adding mysteriously, "You will know tomorrow." The next morning, Chi Xin awoke to find QR codes plastered everywhere in the house, even for disposable toothbrushes and toothpaste, which cost 10 yuan. He remembered Ding Xiaorou's comment about her "treat" and realized she intended to charge him for everything.
Ding Xiaorou then presented him with a breakfast of bread, coffee, a sandwich, and salad, charging him 25 yuan. She explained that she had an obligation to provide service but also a right to charge, justifying the price by including "time cost" and "labor cost." Chi Xin chastised her, saying if she put her cleverness to good use, she'd be debt-free.
Ding Xiaorou, however, insisted she was a "poor working person" saving money to pay him back, calling it a "win-win." She even charged him for a spoonful of jam. Later, Ding Xiaorou received exciting news: her window design had been shortlisted by the committee. She immediately called Zheng Ze, who congratulated her and agreed to accompany her to sign the contract, telling her to dress beautifully. Ding Xiaorou excitedly exclaimed, "I am the best!"
Meanwhile, Zhen Zheng assisted Chi Xin in interviewing female guests for a show. The candidates proved to be bizarre and self-serving, with one claiming a curse that caused her previous husbands to die, another boasting about her ability to eat vast amounts of food as a live streamer with many rich fans, and a third proudly asserting her beauty and disdain for past contestants. Chi Xin was clearly irritated, abruptly ending the interviews.
Tong Liang then approached Chi Xin, sarcastically questioning his anger and remarking on how much Chi Xin "takes care of Ding Xiaorou." He warned that Chi Xin's interviewing methods might harm the company's image, to which Chi Xin retorted, finding Tong Liang's concern for company image ironic. Back at home that evening, Ding Xiaorou had just returned after signing her contract and celebrating.
Chi Xin reminded her of their supplementary clause about giving an hour's notice for dinner, which she had failed to do. They argued over the TV, with Ding Xiaorou wanting to watch her movie on the big screen. Chi Xin ingeniously used an "optical element" to create a "self-made projection" on the wall, allowing her to watch her movie from her phone, which impressed her. As she watched, Chi Xin saw messages from Zheng Ze on her phone.
Zheng Ze had sent her photos from the signing, calling it "commemorative," and praised her outfit, referring to her as "the Fairy herself." Chi Xin, looking at her attire, scoffed that Zheng Ze's taste must have worsened from being with her. Later that night, as Ding Xiaorou slept on the sofa, she murmured that she was cold. Chi Xin, unable to sleep, walked downstairs and, seeing her without a blanket, covered her.
The next morning, Nan Sasha came to Ding Xiaorou's house. Ding Xiaorou quickly scrambled to hide blankets, while Chi Xin hid upstairs. Nan Sasha remarked on the messy house, asking if Ding Xiaorou couldn't take care of herself. Ding Xiaorou lied, claiming she had fallen asleep in the living room. Nan Sasha then noticed all the QR codes, questioning if Ding Xiaorou had opened a convenience store.
Ding Xiaorou, flustered, made excuses about saving money due to her debts, saying the codes were reminders. She then tried to distract Nan Sasha by saying she needed to change for a very important errand, insisting Nan Sasha turn around so she wouldn't "peep." Nan Sasha, growing impatient as she had a surgery to attend, eventually went with Ding Xiaorou to the bathroom, and Ding Xiaorou continued making up excuses to hide the fact that Chi Xin was upstairs.
As Ding Xiaorou rushed Nan Sasha out to buy "window materials," she loudly announced their departure, presumably for Chi Xin's benefit. After sending Nan Sasha off to the hospital for surgery, Ding Xiaorou returned home with her newly purchased window design tools. Alone in the house, Ding Xiaorou felt a sense of unease, as if she was being followed.
She watched a news report about a man who had stalked a woman on Kaixuan Road, and police found handcuffs and shackles in his car. The news warned women to be vigilant. Then, a second report detailed a sexual assault at "5th Floor, No. 200, Kaixuan Road" where a man gained entry by knocking on the door and then attacked the female resident, injuring her head with a brick. The suspect was linked to previous stalking cases.
Feeling increasingly terrified, Ding Xiaorou repeatedly scanned her surroundings, dismissing things she thought she saw as her eyes playing tricks. Just then, there was a loud, insistent knock on her door. Frightened, she instinctively grabbed a pot from the kitchen. When she opened the door, it was Chi Xin.
Episode 14 Recap
After Ding Xiaorou changed her door password, Chi Xin quickly deduced the new combination and entered. Ding Xiaorou, who was holding a pot, was startled and apologized for not realizing it was him. Chi Xin explained that he believed she changed the password to feel safer from intruders, especially with reports of abnormal individuals targeting young women. He advised her to be careful and not wander alone. Ding Xiaorou, surprised, asked how he knew the new password.
Chi Xin explained that people often use three common passwords, and he had simply tried her Wi-Fi password, which turned out to be correct. Ding Xiaorou then commented on his hat, to which he replied he hadn't washed his hair that morning. Later that night, as Ding Xiaorou fell asleep while working on her window design, Chi Xin gently covered her with a blanket.
The next morning, Ding Xiaorou arrived at the exhibition hall to take measurements for the window design competition, but she lacked an invitation. A security guard stopped her, stating she couldn't enter without proper credentials. Just then, Jiang Yuan arrived, presented her own certificate, and vouched for Ding Xiaorou, allowing them both entry.
Ding Xiaorou recognized Jiang Yuan as the youngest deputy editor-in-chief of Fashion magazine and was surprised that Jiang Yuan knew her, to which Jiang Yuan replied that she had seen Ding Xiaorou's photos in the competition materials and on a recent TV show, finding her very cute in person.
Ding Xiaorou then attempted to persuade Jiang Yuan to allow her to set up her window design earlier than the official competition day due to its complex size requirements, explaining that without early setup, she would have to forfeit. Jiang Yuan, however, stated that such a request was against the rules and that contestants were only permitted to enter the venue two hours before the competition.
She suggested Ding Xiaorou prepare all her materials and promised to try and find a solution for the venue access. Meanwhile, Chi Xin was boiling a pot of water at home when his phone rang. Distracted by the call, he accidentally spilled water on a power strip, causing a short circuit. He left to buy replacement parts.
When Ding Xiaorou returned home, she found the power strip damaged and the programs for her light strip control software, which she had worked on for two nights, completely lost because her computer hadn't saved the data before it was powered off. She was devastated, realizing she only had sixteen hours until the submission deadline and no way to set up her complex window display in time.
Chi Xin, upon his return, apologized profusely for the accident and offered to help, explaining he had already bought new controllers and light strips. However, Ding Xiaorou found they were the wrong model and decided to buy them herself. Feeling defeated, she went to buy ice cream. While out, her mother called, expressing concern about Ding Xiaorou participating in "messy programs" and advising her to consider returning home to teach art, like her mother.
Her mother also probed about her love life, mentioning a neighbor's gossip about a boyfriend. Ding Xiaorou, though disheartened, tried to reassure her mother that she was working hard and wouldn't disappoint her, clarifying that her work was "window design," not "window styling." Determined to help Ding Xiaorou, Chi Xin rallied his team members, including Luo Siwen, Qi Ling, and Xiao Bao, to restore her design.
They successfully recovered her data and fixed all the issues, particularly her critical circuit lines. Simultaneously, Jiang Yuan called Ding Xiaorou, informing her that the exhibition workers had finished for the night, leaving the hall empty until 8 AM the next day. She promised to send Ding Xiaorou an "Application for approval" to grant her early access. Ding Xiaorou was ecstatic, realizing a miracle had finally happened.
Zheng Ze, unaware of the situation, called SA Yi and He Mingzhu, mentioning a surprise he had planned for Ding Xiaorou. He then called Ding Xiaorou, but she explained she was busy at the exhibition hall setting up her window and needed to secure her entry qualification first. Upon hearing this, Zheng Ze immediately rushed to the exhibition hall to help.
SA Yi, He Mingzhu, and Zhen Zheng also arrived, joining Chi Xin and his team to assist Ding Xiaorou in setting up her display. As Ding Xiaorou directed Chi Xin and the others, she accidentally tripped over a wire, causing a large background board to fall towards her. Chi Xin bravely rushed forward, preventing it from hitting her. Shortly after, Jiang Yuan arrived.
Ding Xiaorou introduced everyone to Jiang Yuan, including Chi Xin, noting Jiang Yuan's "combination of beauty and talent" and crediting her for securing early access. Jiang Yuan acknowledged that she and Chi Xin already knew each other from previous events. Chi Xin, upon seeing Jiang Yuan, quickly excused himself to buy more coffee. He took a cappuccino that Jiang Yuan had brought, and Jiang Yuan followed him.
A barista handed Chi Xin his matcha latte, and Jiang Yuan, noticing he had been drinking a cappuccino, remarked on his true preference for matcha. She then urged Chi Xin to consider starting a relationship with Ding Xiaorou, whom she admired. Chi Xin, however, countered by advising Jiang Yuan to start a new chapter herself. They then made a bet on who would begin a new relationship first.
Back at the exhibition, He Mingzhu, having observed the interaction, pressed Zhen Zheng to reveal the nature of Chi Xin and Jiang Yuan's past. Zhen Zheng reluctantly admitted that Jiang Yuan was Chi Xin's ex-girlfriend of seven years. Overhearing this, Ding Xiaorou misinterpreted Chi Xin's distant and unusual behavior as a result of heartbreak, leading her to believe he had changed his sexual orientation. With everyone's collective effort, Ding Xiaorou's window design was completed successfully.
As the team dispersed, Zheng Ze offered to drive Ding Xiaorou home, but she insisted on calling a private car, wanting him to rest. However, Chi Xin soon arrived and offered her a ride. In the car, Ding Xiaorou, concerned about Chi Xin, tried to counsel him, using the analogy of a "spicy hot pot" that caused diarrhea not meaning all spicy hot pots would.
She empathically stated that she understood his pain from a seven-year relationship ending, but urged him not to change his "orientation" just because one "tree" (Jiang Yuan) was gone when there was a whole "forest" out there. Chi Xin, bewildered by her misinterpretation, questioned what was going on in her mind. To prove he was a "straight man," he leaned in, suggesting she "try it" to see if he liked men or women.
Overwhelmed, Ding Xiaorou's heart raced, and she instantly suffered a narcolepsy attack, shouting "Earthquake! On fire!" Chi Xin found he couldn't wake Ding Xiaorou and struggled to unfasten her seatbelt. A community security guard approached, misunderstanding Chi Xin's close proximity to Ding Xiaorou and suspecting foul play. However, upon closer inspection, the guard realized Chi Xin was merely trying to undo her seatbelt.
When Ding Xiaorou eventually woke up, she remembered Chi Xin's attempt to prove his heterosexuality and finally realized he was a standard straight man, regretting her previous misunderstanding. Afterward, she became extremely awkward around him, jumping away when he reached out to her and nervously stating that men and women should keep their distance. The next day, Zheng Ze came to pick up Ding Xiaorou. He had planned a surprise for her, taking her to a high-end fashion boutique.
A sales assistant presented Ding Xiaorou with an exquisite evening gown, crafted from precious French embroidery fabric by over forty artisans. Ding Xiaorou, thinking it was for sale and beyond her means, expressed her inability to afford it. However, the assistant revealed that someone, implicitly Zheng Ze, had already purchased it for her, reserving it specially. Ding Xiaorou was visibly stunned and touched by Zheng Ze's grand gesture.
Episode 15 Recap
Leading up to the charity gala for the Fashion Window Design Competition, Ding Xiaorou faced significant challenges. She initially struggled to enter the venue without an invitation, but Jiang Yuan recognized her and facilitated her entry. A major crisis occurred when she lost all her design data due to an accident at home, but Chi Xin and his team worked tirelessly to restore her "Matchparadise" design, with Jiang Yuan also advocating for her to get extended setup time.
It was during this period that it was revealed Jiang Yuan was Chi Xin's ex-girlfriend, and they made a bet about who would start a new relationship first. Ding Xiaorou, misinterpreting Chi Xin's actions, mistakenly believed he had changed his sexual orientation due to heartbreak, leading to an awkward car ride where she tried to 'correct' him and her subsequent attempts to maintain distance.
Zheng Ze, having initially planned a surprise for Ding Xiaorou with SA Yi and He Mingzhu, rushed to help her with the setup when he learned she was busy. He later presented her with a beautiful evening gown for the event. Zheng Ze accompanied Ding Xiaorou to a charity gala for the Fashion Window Design Competition, where she was determined to make her window design shine.
Before the event, Zheng Ze had presented her with a beautiful dress he had chosen, which Ding Xiaorou initially felt was not quite her style and made her clumsy, but Zheng Ze insisted it was important to wear. As Ding Xiaorou stood by her "Matchparadise" design, it quickly drew the attention of both local and international designers. One foreign designer inquired if she was the artist, which Zheng Ze translated, then adding that he was her translator.
The designer praised the top layer of her work as "very nice" and a "perfect design." Later, Ding Xiaorou, curious about Zheng Ze's multiple language skills, asked him about his past, to which he playfully replied, "Secret." Lucy soon arrived and immediately targeted Ding Xiaorou with sarcastic remarks, questioning her presence at such a high-society event and implying she was there with a man. Ding Xiaorou firmly clarified she was a participant.
Lucy then attempted to impress Jiang Yuan with her own design, but Jiang Yuan, finding the conversation inappropriate for the event, gently steered Lucy away by suggesting they discuss work via email. Instead, Jiang Yuan turned her attention to Ding Xiaorou, asking her to introduce "Matchparadise." Ding Xiaorou explained her concept, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Match Girl" and featuring matches and a starry sky, symbolizing hope.
As she spoke, Jiang Yuan recognized her English signature, linking it to the "Snow Country Rainbow" design previously featured in a magazine. Ding Xiaorou, caught off guard, remained silent. Chairman Zheng of the Swire Group and his wife then made a grand entrance, immediately surrounded by reporters. The Chairman announced a "big plan," expressing his desire for a new family member, hinting at a grandchild. Feeling a surge of anxiety, Ding Xiaorou retreated to the rooftop to compose herself.
The charity gala officially began. Chi Xin sent Ding Xiaorou a message, urging her to come downstairs and encouraging her to be brave. Taking a deep breath, Ding Xiaorou ascended the stage to present her work. She eloquently explained that "Matchparadise" drew inspiration from "The Little Match Girl," using the imagery of stars and matches to symbolize hope.
She spoke of the challenges of pursuing dreams—leaving home, facing setbacks, ridicule, and self-doubt—but stressed the unwavering importance of hope, however distant or small. She concluded by stating she had rewritten the fairy tale's ending, urging young people to chase their dreams and adults to protect them. Chi Xin watched from afar, captivated by her moving speech, as was the rest of the audience. Ding Xiaorou's "Matchparadise" was ultimately auctioned off for an impressive 1 million.
Chi Xin, having witnessed her triumph, quietly began to leave. Jiang Yuan quickly followed him, praising Ding Xiaorou's work and playfully encouraging Chi Xin to find love while he was still young, suggesting he now had a "goal." Meanwhile, SA Yi excitedly rushed to congratulate Ding Xiaorou. As they returned to the main hall, Ding Xiaorou saw Zheng Ze with his parents. She was stunned to realize that Zheng Ze was the son of the Swire Group chairman.
SA Yi had initially scoffed at the idea of Zheng Ze being a rich second generation, jokingly comparing their own situation to "Two Broke Girls" if he were. Overwhelmed by the revelation and her ruined dress, Ding Xiaorou accidentally stumbled, knocking over a server's tray and spilling red wine on her elegant white gown. Unbeknownst to her, her phone also slipped from her grasp onto the floor.
When Zheng Ze approached her, distressed Ding Xiaorou pushed him away, reminding him they should maintain distance, seemingly referencing her earlier misunderstanding and the awkward car incident. She then contemplated staying overnight at SA Yi's place. SA Yi was delighted by the idea, unaware that a mysterious figure in black was covertly observing Ding Xiaorou's every move. Later, Chi Xin heard a news report about a prowler still at large in the neighborhood and became concerned for Ding Xiaorou's safety.
He drove around late into the night searching for her but couldn't find her. He then called SA Yi, who, after some initial hesitation to cover for Ding Xiaorou's presence, eventually confirmed that Ding Xiaorou was staying with her for the night. Relieved, Chi Xin bought a bouquet of flowers and narcissus seeds from a street vendor on his way home. Just as he arrived, Zheng Ze appeared at his door, holding Ding Xiaorou's lost phone, leaving both men momentarily surprised.
Episode 16 Recap
Ding Xiaorou frantically searched for her lost phone until Zheng Ze appeared at her door to return it. To his surprise, Chi Xin answered, explaining that Xiaorou's broken water pipe had flooded his apartment, prompting her to offer him temporary residence. He also informed Zheng Ze that Xiaorou was currently staying at SA Yi's house. Zheng Ze left, remembering Chi Xin's earlier comment about not being able to reach Xiaorou by phone.
Later, SA Yi received a text from Zheng Ze, confirming he had Xiaorou's phone and would return it the next day. Ding Xiaorou felt awkward about her abrupt departure from the charity gala the previous night without saying goodbye to Zheng Ze. SA Yi reassured her and lightheartedly suggested she should be more confident, even joking about plastic surgery. Xiaorou then asked SA Yi if she was the most beautiful in her heart, to which SA Yi affectionately affirmed.
The following morning at work, Ding Xiaorou found Lucy orchestrating an elaborate welcome ceremony for the new company director. Much to Lucy's shock, Zheng Ze arrived as the new director of Taigu Group. He promptly canceled the ceremonial reception and unnecessary meetings, stating he preferred open communication and would assign tasks based on individual strengths. Before Ding Xiaorou could leave, Zheng Ze called her into his office.
He returned her phone and presented her with the latest fashion magazine, which featured her "Snow Country Rainbow" design. Ding Xiaorou credited "Sister Jiang Yuan" for the publication, expressing her gratitude for the unexpected recognition. She then apologized for her sudden exit from the gala, explaining she had accidentally spilled red wine on herself. Zheng Ze dismissed her apology and instructed her not to call him David anymore.
Lucy was furious to discover Zheng Ze was the chairman's son, realizing her past dismissiveness was a huge mistake. She complained to Wang Te, lamenting that she had unknowingly offended the "Prince Ye" whose family owned the company. Vowing to rectify her past behavior, Lucy declared her intention to treat Ding Xiaorou much better from now on.
After work, Ding Xiaorou met He Mingzhu, who eagerly inquired about the romantic developments between Xiaorou and Zheng Ze, especially after hearing rumors of him introducing her to his parents. He Mingzhu teasingly suggested that Xiaorou was on the "countdown to marrying into a wealthy family." However, Ding Xiaorou remained bewildered by Zheng Ze's intentions, unsure if his actions were genuine or merely part of their existing agreement.
He Mingzhu also mentioned Chi Xin's frantic search for Xiaorou the previous night, reminding her to be careful living alone. Returning home, Ding Xiaorou discovered Chi Xin had filled her balcony with plants. As she ate a bowl of instant noodles, Chi Xin offered her some "Fried noodles with garlic flavor" he'd created, assuring her it had garlic aroma without the taste, thanks to an "ancestral recipe."
When Ding Xiaorou asked about the white pieces, he casually said they were garlic. He then revealed that Zheng Ze had come to her apartment the previous night to return her phone, adding that he had explained their living situation. Ding Xiaorou was annoyed he hadn't told her sooner, wondering how much Zheng Ze actually understood. The next morning at the office, Ding Xiaorou was struck by severe abdominal pain and rushed to the bathroom, vomiting.
She overheard colleagues gossiping, suggesting she had advanced in the company by seducing "Prince Ye" and stolen Lucy's "Snow Country Rainbow" credit. Weak and unable to defend herself, she collapsed. She later woke up in the hospital, where SA Yi informed her she had been poisoned by narcissus seeds, which are often mistaken for garlic. Ding Xiaorou then realized the "garlic" in Chi Xin's noodles was the cause.
As SA Yi left for surgery, Ding Xiaorou received a text from Zheng Ze, saying he was coming to visit. Feeling overwhelmed, she hid. Unable to find her, Zheng Ze dejectedly left. Meanwhile, Zhen Zheng called Chi Xin to inform him about Ding Xiaorou's hospitalization. Chi Xin immediately went to the hospital. While Ding Xiaorou was walking in the courtyard, a masked fan suddenly accosted her, mentioning her "curse" and asking for help finding a girlfriend.
Chi Xin arrived just in time, dismissing the fan's talk of a curse and ordering him to leave. Deeply distressed by the series of unfortunate events, Ding Xiaorou felt trapped by her "curse," believing she was destined for unhappiness. Chi Xin tried to comfort her, reminding her of her own words about hope and asserting that the "curse" was merely a psychological suggestion. He emphasized that she, like any other girl, had the right to pursue dreams and happiness.
As SA Yi arrived to visit, Chi Xin departed, leaving behind a large bag. SA Yi later discovered it contained a projector, prompting her to jokingly call Chi Xin a "steel straight man." That night, Chi Xin was sleepless, regretting that choosing Ding Xiaorou for his show might have brought her so much misfortune. Ding Xiaorou's phone buzzed with payment notifications, revealing Chi Xin had scanned the QR codes for her instant noodles and several cans of beer.
The following morning, Zheng Ze, anticipating Xiaorou might hide from him, asked SA Yi to deliver a bowl of vegetable porridge to her in the hospital. Ding Xiaorou, unaware of the sender, happily ate the delicious porridge. SA Yi then revealed Zheng Ze was the one who sent it, adding that he predicted Xiaorou might not eat it if he delivered it himself.
Ding Xiaorou clarified to SA Yi that she wasn't angry with Zheng Ze, but rather with herself, due to the harsh rumors at work. SA Yi conveyed this to Zheng Ze over the phone, who was relieved. When SA Yi asked why he liked Ding Xiaorou, Zheng Ze confessed that it was a feeling he couldn't forget after just one look, and Xiaorou was the first to make him feel that way. SA Yi offered him her encouragement.
Separately, Zhen Zheng brought flowers and money to He Mingzhu at her shop. He asked her, as a "topic," how a woman could tell if a man was in love. He Mingzhu explained that possessiveness and jealousy were strong indicators, citing scenarios like a man driving around to find a woman in danger.
Zhen Zheng then mentioned going to the hospital to see Ding Xiaorou, but He Mingzhu subtly suggested he shouldn't, implying that someone else needed that "precious opportunity" to care for Xiaorou more than he did.
Episode 17 Recap
Ding Xiaorou returns home from the hospital, feeling very happy. She discovers that Chi Xin has consumed all the beer in her refrigerator. Tong Liang's show, "Go ahead, youth," has seen a significant drop in ratings. His Director admonished him, stating that the ratings had dropped by another 0. 2 and that sponsors would pull out if the trend continued.
Tong Liang promised to reverse the decline, but the Director suggested he learn from Chi Xin, emphasizing that Chi Xin's abilities were superior and that being humble would prevent such a decline. Tong Liang sarcastically agreed with the Director, though he secretly resented being compared to Chi Xin.
Chi Xin then arrived for his meeting with the Director, ironically asking if he was there to discuss his program being taken over, as was the case last time the Director invited him to sit. The Director changed the subject to Zheng Ze, whose true identity as a rich second-generation heir had been revealed. Tong Liang, still present, taunted Chi Xin for not having uncovered this information earlier, implying Chi Xin’s show's ratings suffered as a result.
Chi Xin retorted, but the Director quickly ended their argument, sending Tong Liang out of the office. The Director then proposed to Chi Xin that they capitalize on Zheng Ze's fame by having him and Ding Xiaorou film a special episode, perhaps a "honeymoon" or "sweet" segment, likening it to a real-life Cinderella story to boost ratings. Chi Xin firmly rejected the idea, stating it didn’t fit his program’s format and was "nonsense."
Meanwhile, Zhen Zheng, disguised as a cleaner, secretly listened to Tong Liang’s team discussing how to poach Zheng Ze and Ding Xiaorou for their show. They noted Zheng Ze's new identity as the "Crown Prince of Swire Group" would bring high ratings, especially if they could also get Ding Xiaorou, who they referred to as the "Curse girl" and "secret weapon" from the "next group." They were worried it wouldn't be easy to invite such wealthy individuals.
Lucy brought Zheng Ze to review a new window design at a street store. Zheng Ze immediately recognized it as Ding Xiaorou’s work. Lucy, however, falsely claimed credit, insisting she and her assistants had worked on it since six in the morning because Ding Xiaorou was sick. Zheng Ze, seeing through her lie, declared that if her "theory" was true, she had "lost the face of our store" and stormed off.
Tong Liang then went to the Director, making a strong case for inviting Ding Xiaorou and Zheng Ze to "Go ahead, youth." He used flattering language, praising the Director's "profound strategy," "resourcefulness," and "big psychological pattern," and explained that Ding Xiaorou, the "Curse girl," and Zheng Ze, the "Crown Prince," would ensure soaring ratings and sponsorship. He asked the Director to obtain their contact information from Chi Xin, as his team couldn't "sneak around" to get it.
Just then, Chi Xin entered, interrupting, and declared that no one was allowed to poach his show's guests. He revealed that after their last program, Ding Xiaorou had suffered greatly, with many people targeting her "Curse" image, culminating in a stalker attacking her just yesterday. Chi Xin insisted they should stop exploiting this concept.
Though Tong Liang accused him of hypocrisy, reminding him he was the one who initially found the "Curse Girl," Chi Xin admitted his initial mistake but refused to "make mistakes again," stating he would rather quit than fail to protect his guests. Convinced by Chi Xin's sincerity and the severity of the situation, the Director decided against Tong Liang’s proposal. Later, Tong Liang confronted Chi Xin, expressing his suspicion about Chi Xin's unusual concern for Ding Xiaorou.
He questioned how Chi Xin knew about Ding Xiaorou being splashed with coffee, kidnapped, and targeted, implying a secret relationship. Chi Xin warned Tong Liang against spreading rumors, challenging him to compete on program quality rather than gossip, and told him not to act like a "whiny woman." Zhen Zheng informed Chi Xin that Zheng Ze was the Crown Prince of Swire Group, valued at billions, asking if Chi Xin felt pressured, which he denied.
Since Ding Xiaorou had been avoiding Zheng Ze, he sent her a text message, asking her to meet him that afternoon at two o'clock. When Ding Xiaorou arrived, Zheng Ze led her to their former middle school. He shared a "little secret" from eight years ago, when his introverted and sensitive high school self, with busy entrepreneurial parents, found solace in "One Piece" comics. He recounted being caught by a strict teacher, Proud Zhu, for drawing on the school blackboard.
His punishment was to stand outside holding a bucket of water until another student vandalized the board. Ding Xiaorou, recognizing the story, remarked on Proud Zhu's "inhuman order" and Zheng Ze's compliance. Observing him drenched in the rain, Ding Xiaorou, then a younger student, intervened by taking the chalk from him and scribbling on the blackboard, thus ending his punishment. Zheng Ze affectionately referred to her as "the little four-eyes" he remembered from that day.
Zheng Ze then led Ding Xiaorou into their old classroom, where a beautiful rainbow made of her photos, arranged in a heart shape, was displayed on the blackboard. He confessed his feelings, recalling her first appearance in the rain eight years ago and his enduring memory of her smile. He expressed gratitude for their reunion and his desire to cherish their "fate."
Zheng Ze admitted that his previous on-air confession was not scripted but came from his true feelings, and his actions for her were not due to any "couple agreement." He referenced her saying that "everyone is a window" and that if one shines, others will notice. Ding Xiaorou was deeply moved, thanking him for his silent efforts. Overwhelmed and confused, she asked for time to think.
Zheng Ze understood, giving her space and asking her only to treat him as a friend and stop avoiding him. Ding Xiaorou later confided in SA Yi and He Mingzhu about Zheng Ze's "second confession." Both friends were ecstatic, calling it "destined fate." SA Yi recalled the high school incident, noting Zheng Ze's changed appearance and personality since then (he used to wear glasses). He Mingzhu, embodying "the heart of the post-90s old aunt," was particularly touched.
They urged Ding Xiaorou to accept him, but she admitted feeling scared despite being moved, attributing it to the trauma of over thirty past failed confessions. SA Yi supported Ding Xiaorou's decision to take time to think, calling it "responsible," while He Mingzhu, worried about missing the opportunity, advised her not to be "too calm," emphasizing Zheng Ze's exceptional qualities, and stating "you'll miss this opportunity." Chi Xin’s house was finally repaired.
He went to Ding Xiaorou's apartment to pack his belongings, finding it still messy. Unexpectedly, Ding Xiaorou's mother arrived. She mistook Chi Xin for a thief, taking his picture and posting it on her social media (WeChat Moments), threatening to report him if she didn't reply to comments within five minutes. Ding Xiaorou, seeing her mother's post, panicked and rushed home, texting Chi Xin to try and appease her.
Chi Xin attempted to explain that he was just a neighbor whose pipes had burst, causing a temporary, paid stay. However, her mother refused to believe him, insisting they were illegally cohabiting and asking what kind of propriety this was.
When Ding Xiaorou arrived, she tried to clarify, but her mother was enraged, scolding her loudly for making friends with "shady people" and for appearing on television as the "Curse girl," which had led to neighborhood gossip, including questions about her being "dumped thirty times." Ding Xiaorou's mother also belittled her career as a "window designer." Chi Xin interjected, taking full responsibility, admitting that he was the one who encouraged Ding Xiaorou to appear on his TV program.
This only fueled Ding's Mother's fury further. She called Chi Xin "terrible" and accused Ding Xiaorou of being "sold out and still helping count the money," before forcibly throwing Chi Xin out of the apartment.
Episode 18 Recap
Earlier, Ding Xiaorou attempted to have a calm discussion with her mother about her work, emphasizing that she sent money home on time. However, her mother was unyielding, simply reiterating her demand for Ding Xiaorou to return home. Ding Xiaorou then confided in SA Yi and He Mingzhu about her mother's ultimatum to return to their hometown.
Her mother, who did not understand Ding Xiaorou's freelance work, insisted she maintain the facade of a conventional "from nine to five" job, requiring Ding Xiaorou to leave the house by 8 AM daily. Ding Xiaorou explained that her mother believed any non-office work was "not doing the right thing," and she felt she was already very unprofessional in her mother's eyes.
The ultimatum presented three choices: return to her hometown immediately, marry into the city, or her mother would stay with her until one of the first two conditions was met. He Mingzhu suggested that marrying into the city was Ding Xiaorou's only viable option, calling it a path to both "left-hand love and right-hand dream." SA Yi jokingly referred to the situation as "God-assisted," noting that Zhen Zheng's recent confession, combined with her mother's push for marriage, seemed to align.
Despite her friends' attempts to offer "ingenious schemes," Ding Xiaorou felt she couldn't lie to herself, leaving her friends to lament her "woman's fight" predicament before heading off to their own responsibilities. Meanwhile, Ding Xiaorou's mother, after buying groceries, was accidentally jostled off a bus and twisted her ankle. Chi Xin, who was driving by, offered to take her to the hospital.
On the way, Ding Xiaorou's mother sternly accused Chi Xin of exploiting Ding Xiaorou's kind nature for his show and making money from it. Chi Xin tried to explain that their program had no malicious intent, but she dismissed his words, stating that people in his profession always had clever justifications. To prevent Ding Xiaorou from worrying, Chi Xin asked her mother not to call her, claiming Ding Xiaorou was busy with work.
He then called Zhen Zheng, feigning a conversation about a business meeting to cover his absence. At the hospital, the doctor confirmed Ding Xiaorou's mother only had a minor skin injury that would heal with ointment. Chi Xin insisted on caution, emphasizing that health was a serious matter. Outside, they unexpectedly encountered SA Yi, who feigned surprise at seeing Ding Xiaorou's mother there, pretending she heard from Ding Xiaorou that her mother had arrived.
SA Yi was called away for an urgent surgery but asked Chi Xin to "treat my aunt well." Chi Xin then offered to take Ding Xiaorou's mother for breakfast, listing various food options. However, Ding Xiaorou's mother expressed a strong desire to try the "potted ice cream" that her neighbors had raved about, knowing it was one of Ding Xiaorou's creations.
This led Chi Xin to He Mingzhu's cafe, where Ding Xiaorou happened to be, discussing her dilemma with He Mingzhu. Seeing them arrive, Ding Xiaorou quickly hid. He Mingzhu enthusiastically greeted Ding Xiaorou's mother, praising her youth and good looks, and began listing the cafe's ice cream flavors. Chi Xin, noticing Ding Xiaorou hiding, went to great lengths to cover for her.
He caused a distraction by pretending there was a large mosquito in his eye while subtly trying to guide Ding Xiaorou's mother toward a specific ice cream flavor to buy time. When SA Yi called Ding Xiaorou's phone, Chi Xin quickly intercepted it, pretending to be on a call with "Zhou Dong" about selling stocks due to a "dangerous" market, further confusing SA Yi. Ding Xiaorou used this opportunity to slip away into the restroom.
Ding Xiaorou's mother then expressed a need for the restroom, and Chi Xin, fearing Ding Xiaorou would be discovered, directed her to the men's toilet, claiming the women's restroom lock was broken. Ding Xiaorou managed to escape while Chi Xin diverted her mother. However, Ding Xiaorou's mother soon confronted Chi Xin, revealing she had known all along that Ding Xiaorou was hiding in the locked women's restroom and that they were "united to lie to me."
She stated that despite her age, her mind was not "stupid." She lamented Ding Xiaorou's "freelance" career, which she misunderstood as "helping plastic models change clothes" and compared to "work part-time" in their hometown, "fishing for three days and basking in the net for two days," seeing it as an unstable job. Chi Xin clarified that it was called "window design," Ding Xiaorou's interest and dream, making it very different.
Ding Xiaorou's mother, however, persisted, sharing her dream for Ding Xiaorou: a healthy life, a good marriage, and a stable job that ensured "no starvation, no freezing." She also expressed her dislike for the city, with its crowds, traffic, high prices, and poor air quality. Despite her complaints, she thanked Chi Xin for taking her to the hospital and asked to be dropped off near home, not wanting to delay his "work."
Ding Xiaorou, informed by He Mingzhu that her mother's injury was minor, felt relieved and continued making ice cream at the cafe for the rest of her "workday." Later that evening, Ding Xiaorou returned home, attempting to maintain her pretense by claiming she had been in meetings all day and was exhausted. Her mother, however, exposed her lie, asserting that Ding Xiaorou had not gone to work and had merely been "tired of acting" at the cafe.
She then revealed that she had purchased "sleeper" tickets for their return to their hometown "the day after tomorrow." Ding Xiaorou admitted to lying about her life not being as good as her mother imagined, but insisted it was "absolutely not as bad as you think." She reminded her mother of her strict upbringing and her own dreams that she wished to achieve.
But her mother was unyielding, stating she had already bought the tickets and would pack Ding Xiaorou's belongings. Upset, Ding Xiaorou stormed out of the house. Worried, her mother immediately went to Chi Xin for help. Chi Xin found Ding Xiaorou sitting alone in the downstairs garden at night. He gently chastised her for being out alone, reminding her of a previous incident where she was tracked and that her mother was worried about her, feeling "Unfamiliar" in the city.
Ding Xiaorou angrily retorted, asking him to leave her alone and accusing him of being a "meddling neighbor." She then unleashed her anger, blaming him for her predicament. She claimed that if she hadn't participated in his program, her mother wouldn't have found out, and if he hadn't taken her to the cafe that morning, she wouldn't have been so embarrassed. She felt she had "leeway" before, but now her mother was determined to take her home.
Chi Xin was stunned by this revelation. Ding Xiaorou, crying, lamented that she was leaving the city not as she had envisioned, with "many things I haven't completed here: my friends, my dreams, my window." She felt her "little flame of hope," carefully nurtured through many setbacks, had been extinguished. Chi Xin apologized, suggesting her mother was just angry and she should try to explain.
Ding Xiaorou countered that her mother had already bought tickets for the day after tomorrow, and from experience, her mother "never changes" her mind once a decision is made. She spoke passionately about the importance of pursuing one's true desires, even "unrealistic dreams laughed at by others," believing the process itself was fulfilling.
Later, Chi Xin, still preoccupied by Ding Xiaorou's heartfelt words, was approached by Zhen Zheng, who briefed him on the next set of guest short films, highlighting "dreams" as a key theme. This sparked an epiphany in Chi Xin, and he immediately sought out Jiang Yuan to obtain Ding Xiaorou's speech video from the charity gala, recalling her words about dreams. Jiang Yuan informed him that the video was with Ding Haifeng, who was about to leave by plane.
Chi Xin, with Jiang Yuan's help, rushed to the airport to intercept Ding Haifeng and retrieve the video. Jiang Yuan, observing Chi Xin's intense focus and determination, remarked that it was the first time she had seen him "completely out of mind" for a girl. Chi Xin simply stated that Ding Xiaorou was "a good girl" and he intended to "treat her well."
Meanwhile, Ding Xiaorou was at the cafe, eating an excessive amount of ice cream as her friends, SA Yi and He Mingzhu, tried to cheer her up. They noticed she wasn't dressed for work and deduced her mother had discovered her pretense. Ding Xiaorou confessed that she was leaving for her hometown tomorrow.
Her friends were dismayed, and SA Yi offered to speak to her mother, but Ding Xiaorou stopped her, explaining that her mother was already angry and it would only make her angrier. She explained that while she loved her "window work," she had no choice but to prioritize her mother, who, unlike Ding Xiaorou who still had her friends, only had her. He Mingzhu suggested a "slow-down plan" and "save the nation by curve," hoping her mother would eventually understand.
Despite their efforts, Ding Xiaorou was left in despair as her friends departed. Chi Xin, having secured the video, then rushed to Ding Xiaorou's house to show it to her mother.
Episode 19 Recap
Ding Xiaorou's mother, having watched her daughter's impassioned speech from the charity gala, finally understood Ding Xiaorou's dreams and dedication. Chi Xin was there, diligently trying to persuade her, even showing her a magazine featuring Ding Xiaorou's award-winning window design, "Snow Country Rainbow," which received the Grand Prize. Deeply moved, her mother shed tears. She then visited the store to see Ding Xiaorou's designed window in person, with Chi Xin following closely behind.
Her mother posed for photos in front of the window, and Chi Xin seized the opportunity to explain his reasons for staying in the city, emphasizing that with talent and effort, one would always be rewarded. He firmly believed that Ding Xiaorou would achieve her ideals and establish herself in this city. Later, Ding Xiaorou returned home to find a note from her mother along with prepared meals.
As she began to eat, her mother unexpectedly returned, causing Ding Xiaorou to quickly retreat to her room. Her mother went to the workroom and, seeing Ding Xiaorou's design drafts, was filled with a mix of emotions. She then made up her mind to let Ding Xiaorou pursue her ambitions. The next morning, Ding Xiaorou woke to find her mother had already taken an early bus home.
In her letter, her mother explained she had packed Ding Xiaorou's favorite shrimp skin wontons and fried a jar of chili sauce to stimulate her appetite when she lacked it. She advised Ding Xiaorou against staying up late, and to eat more fruit and less instant noodles. Her mother also mentioned seeing Ding Xiaorou's window, expressing pride in her award and urging her to continue working hard without becoming arrogant.
She reflected that while the city had its downsides, it now held Ding Xiaorou's favorite work, her friends, and her dreams, making it different for her. Most importantly, her mother recognized Chi Xin's genuine care for Ding Xiaorou, asking her to thank him and to share the wontons with him. Reading the heartfelt letter, Ding Xiaorou felt a warmth spread through her heart.
Chi Xin, upon arriving at work, received an express package containing candid photos of him and Ding Xiaorou. He immediately suspected Tong Liang and confronted him. Tong Liang unreservedly admitted to hiring someone to take the photos, openly stating his intention to force Chi Xin out of the company.
Chi Xin condemned him for harming Ding Xiaorou, but Tong Liang dismissed his concerns, threatening that releasing the photos would severely damage Chi Xin, Ding Xiaorou, and the company's reputation, potentially even implicating himself. He told Chi Xin that his fate depended on whether he would continue to gamble, and asked what Chi Xin's "Plan B" was, suggesting that protecting Ding Xiaorou was his top priority.
Chi Xin warned him not to be too proud, vowing that he would not succeed. After careful consideration, Ding Xiaorou returned to work at TaiGu Company. She first went to her display window, where Lucy promptly informed Zheng Ze of her return. Zheng Ze was delighted and quickly came to see Ding Xiaorou, taking her out for ice cream. He confessed his worry about his presumptuous actions that day and was relieved to hear her mother now supported her.
Ding Xiaorou, enjoying her sixteenth ice cream, jokingly said she now had to curry favor with him as her boss. With an abundance of groceries left by her mother, Ding Xiaorou decided to host a hot pot dinner for her friends. She called SA Yi, He Mingzhu, Chi Xin, and Zheng Ze. Zheng Ze was unable to attend due to an important client meeting.
He Mingzhu was accompanying Zhen Zheng to a concert, which Zhen Zheng had secretly bought tickets for. SA Yi initially accepted but later called back, apologizing that she had emergency surgeries that evening for her director's brother-in-law's nephew, explaining she couldn't refuse. Chi Xin, still troubled by Tong Liang's threats, missed Ding Xiaorou's message. Ding Xiaorou, feeling disappointed, prepared a large table of food.
As she began to eat alone, Chi Xin arrived home, caught the scent of hot pot wafting from her apartment, and saw her invitation on his phone. He immediately went upstairs to join her. As they ate, Chi Xin made a delicious sesame oil dip with oyster sauce, minced garlic, coriander, and beef sauce. Ding Xiaorou expressed her gratitude for his constant care for her mother, particularly for taking her to the hospital and showing her the window.
She apologized for her earlier harshness and shared how his efforts helped her mother understand her dreams, rekindling her "little flame of hope." Chi Xin humbly redirected the credit to Ding Xiaorou herself. They toasted to her continued presence in the city and her ambition to make window design her lifelong dream, recalling Gladwell's concept that 10,000 hours of dedication can make anyone a world-class master in any field.
Episode 20 Recap
Before her departure, Zheng Ze had checked the local weather and reminded Ding Xiaorou to pack warm clothes. Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin toasted, finding common ground in their shared ambition of pursuing dreams despite challenges. As they enjoyed hotpot, a sudden downpour began. Chi Xin quickly used his clothes to protect the food, then rushed downstairs to retrieve a rain tarp. He returned drenched, and Ding Xiaorou tenderly wiped his face and head, making his heart feel warm.
Inspired by the moment, Chi Xin brought out his guitar and serenaded Ding Xiaorou with a heartfelt song, further deepening their connection. Later that night, Chi Xin was restless. Determined not to yield to Tong Liang or allow Ding Xiaorou to be hurt, he decided to resign from his position. The next morning, Chi Xin confronted Tong Liang, issuing a stern warning: if Tong Liang dared to harm Ding Xiaorou, he would face severe consequences.
Chi Xin then reiterated his decision to resign. The Director pleaded with him to stay, but Chi Xin's mind was made up. He proposed that Zhen Zheng take over the "Love Sandstorm" program. Meanwhile, Ding Xiaorou enthusiastically recounted her romantic hotpot experience with Chi Xin to He Mingzhu. However, He Mingzhu was still fuming because Zhen Zheng had fallen asleep and snored during their concert outing, making her wish she could disappear into the ground.
Later, Zheng Ze contacted Ding Xiaorou with exciting news: her window design had captured the attention of a potential client. Zheng Ze had already helped her secure a preliminary cooperation agreement, and Ding Xiaorou offered to treat him to hotpot as thanks. Zhen Zheng organized a farewell gathering for Chi Xin, where team members toasted and reminisced. Chi Xin announced his temporary departure for six months, entrusting "Love Sandstorm" to Zhen Zheng.
While his colleagues expressed their regret and concern, some also light-heartedly revealed they had bet on his resignation. Chi Xin playfully chastised their happiness but affirmed his decision wasn't a job change, despite their speculation about a new high-paying position. As Chi Xin looked at Ding Xiaorou’s window display, he reflected on the arduous path of chasing dreams, acknowledging the moments of doubt and setback, yet clinging to the fragile but vital spark of hope.
Back home, Ding Xiaorou eagerly anticipated sharing her good news with Chi Xin, wanting to give him strength and encouragement, seeing him as another lonely dreamer in the city. The next morning, Zheng Ze escorted Ding Xiaorou to meet the client, who turned out to be General Manager Mao. General Manager Mao revealed he was the one who purchased her "Matchparadise" design for a million and expressed his admiration for her work's emotional depth.
He then proposed a new project: designing and constructing a ginkgo tree, giving her a black card and an unlimited budget, and allowing her to determine her own compensation based on her effort. Ding Xiaorou was ecstatic, imagining herself as a commanding design director. General Manager Mao then informed her that she needed to depart in three hours, catching Ding Xiaorou by surprise. Chi Xin woke up late, momentarily forgetting he was no longer employed.
He received a call from General Manager Mao, who offered to continue sponsoring "Love Sandstorm" if Chi Xin agreed to assist Ding Xiaorou on her new project. Initially hesitant, Chi Xin accepted upon hearing the condition. Ding Xiaorou arrived at General Manager Mao's office on time and was surprised to find Chi Xin there, assigned as her assistant.
Back at the company, the Director announced that Tong Liang would temporarily replace Chi Xin as the head of "Love Sandstorm" due to Chi Xin's sudden resignation. Despite objections from Zhen Zheng and other team members, the Director emphasized that it was an executive decision, and Zhen Zheng reluctantly accepted. Tong Liang, now in charge, quickly asserted his authority, demanding that all program materials be delivered to his office within ten minutes, leaving the team flustered.
En route to her new project with Chi Xin driving, Ding Xiaorou was deeply captivated by the scenic views. She expressed to Chi Xin her desire for a car with a panoramic sunroof to admire the stars, unaware of his silent understanding. During the journey, Zheng Ze called to check on her, and Ding Xiaorou casually mentioned that Chi Xin was her assistant, which subtly displeased Zheng Ze. Eventually, exhausted, Ding Xiaorou drifted off to sleep.
Episode 21 Recap
Chi Xin and Ding Xiaorou arrived at their destination, Yuyang Mountain House. Ding Xiaorou was visibly disappointed by the rustic and simple facilities, including free-range poultry in the yard, a stark contrast to her expectations of a luxurious trip. To her dismay, there was also no cell phone signal. Despite her initial reaction, the landlord couple warmly welcomed them. Their son, Xiaotian, remained silent, appearing shy.
With daylight fading, Ding Xiaorou expressed her desire to scout the target location, prompting the landlord to immediately prepare their transportation. The landlord presented them with a vintage bicycle from the 1980s. Ding Xiaorou noted its outdated appearance and that its handbrake was unreliable, though the landlord suggested Chi Xin, being taller, could rely on the foot brake. Chi Xin took the lead, with Ding Xiaorou riding behind him on the mountain path.
She instinctively held onto his waist as they rode. They eventually located the address from General Manager Mao's photo, which was now a residential house, not the desolate spot Ding Xiaorou had imagined for a ginkgo tree. An elder they spoke with clarified that the photo was over twenty years old and the area had since been developed. They learned the homeowner, A Hua, would only return the following morning, leaving them to wait.
Meanwhile, back in the city, Zheng Ze and SA Yi both separately arrived to feed stray cats, each concerned about Ding Xiaorou's whereabouts as her phone was unreachable. SA Yi encouraged Zheng Ze to actively pursue his feelings for Ding Xiaorou, reminding him of his past efforts to support her. Back at the mountain house, Ding Xiaorou engaged with the quiet Xiaotian, making a makeshift telephone out of paper cups.
Xiaotian opened up, revealing his hidden passion for drawing and origami, which his mother did not approve of. Ding Xiaorou encouraged him to persevere with his dreams, assuring him his mother would eventually support him. Later, the landlord couple prepared a generous dinner for Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin, which they both thoroughly enjoyed. In another location, He Mingzhu cared for Zhen Zheng, who was suffering from a cold.
She prepared him some cold medicine and gave him a special mint-flavored mask to help clear his stuffy nose and prevent further infection, which Zhen Zheng found surprisingly effective. The next morning, Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin met with A Hua, the homeowner. A Hua adamantly refused their request to plant a ginkgo tree in her yard, initially citing concerns about Feng Shui and later making it clear that money would not change her mind.
Ding Xiaorou gently pressed for the true reason, and A Hua finally explained her profound attachment to the house. Her father had left twenty years ago and never returned. Her elderly mother, suffering from memory loss, still waited for him every day, sitting outside the house at dusk. A Hua feared that even the slightest alteration to the house would prevent her father from recognizing his home if he ever returned.
Understanding the emotional weight of A Hua's story, Ding Xiaorou accepted that the ginkgo tree project could not proceed at that location. As they left, Ding Xiaorou unexpectedly slipped. Chi Xin instinctively grabbed her, preventing her fall.
Believing she was about to plummet down a cliff, Ding Xiaorou frantically confessed her bank card password, asked Chi Xin to look after SA Yi and her cats, and apologized to SA Yi for potentially missing her wedding, finally declaring Chi Xin to be "the best man in the world." Chi Xin then calmly informed her that it was merely a large rock below, not a cliff, which left Ding Xiaorou both relieved and comically annoyed.
Just then, A Hua rushed past them, broom in hand, chasing a young boy who had vandalized her wall. She stumbled and fell, prompting Ding Xiaorou to help her back inside. Upon seeing the extensive graffiti on A Hua's wall, Ding Xiaorou had a new idea. She proposed to A Hua that if she could borrow the wall for a day, she would restore it beautifully.
A Hua was skeptical, believing the children would simply deface it again, but Chi Xin stepped in and convinced her using the "broken window theory." He explained that if a wall is pristine and well-maintained, people are less likely to vandalize it, as it signals that the area is cared for. A Hua was persuaded and agreed to the plan. Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin then departed to a town ten kilometers away to purchase the necessary materials.
As they left the mountain area, Ding Xiaorou's phone regained signal, immediately buzzing with numerous messages from Zheng Ze, SA Yi, and He Mingzhu, all expressing their concern. Instead of replying individually, Ding Xiaorou quickly took a selfie with Chi Xin and posted it on her social media to update everyone on their safety before her phone's battery died. News of their safety spread.
Zheng Ze saw the photo and attempted to call Ding Xiaorou, only to find her phone off again. He Mingzhu and Zhen Zheng also saw the photo. He Mingzhu remarked on the apparent closeness and happiness between Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin in the picture. Zhen Zheng, in agreement, noted that despite Ding Xiaorou's frequent complaints about Chi Xin, her expressions betrayed no actual dislike, suggesting a budding romantic "sweetness."
He Mingzhu playfully attributed Ding Xiaorou's "good fortune" to a "magical mask" she had given her earlier. Meanwhile, Tong Liang visited Zheng Ze, offering him a piece of crucial information: the real reason behind Chi Xin's unexpected resignation. He proposed this as an incentive for Zheng Ze to sponsor the "Love Sandstorm" program.
Episode 22 Recap
Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin arrived at the lively town market, and Ding Xiaorou was immediately captivated by the array of goods. Spotting her favorite ice cream, Chi Xin promptly bought two. As Ding Xiaorou enjoyed her treat by the roadside, Chi Xin naturally wiped a smudge from the corner of her mouth, making her feel incredibly happy. Ding Xiaorou exclaimed how wonderful the market was, with so many things to see, and Chi Xin agreed it wasn't bad.
She commented on how delicious the ice cream looked before they clinked their treats. A song played. Its lyrics described a spell, a desire to stay close, to feel a racing heart, to share everything, and to just be by her side. Having bought all the necessary materials, the two began their walk back, with Ding Xiaorou feeling exhausted.
Chi Xin encouraged her, fanned her, and offered her water, to which Ding Xiaorou remarked that he was becoming a more competent assistant. Upon their return, the landlady's wife handed Ding Xiaorou her wallet, which she had left in the driver's car. Ding Xiaorou was relieved to find her black card, and Chi Xin gently reminded her to be more careful in the future.
Ding Xiaorou then asked Xiaotian to call Fat Tiger, a little boy known for his drawings, to help them fold paper. While Xiaotian and Fat Tiger were skilled at origami, Chi Xin struggled, producing a messy result. He tried to excuse himself by mentioning Einstein's supposedly poor folding skills but being praised for making two, but Ding Xiaorou told him to be serious and refold.
Fat Tiger playfully asked Chi Xin why he kept staring at Ding Xiaorou and if she was his girlfriend, causing Chi Xin to blush and stammer a denial, claiming he was just trying to learn how to fold the ginkgo leaves. The children continued to tease him. Later, Chi Xin borrowed Ding Xiaorou’s paper cup phone, intending to confess his feelings.
Ding Xiaorou, however, quickly interrupted him, citing that it was time to eat, as she was wary of falling under a "curse" again. She was confident in the technical aspects of her design for General Manager Mao's project but worried that he might not connect with her artistic concept. She specifically recalled a woodpecker in the photo General Manager Mao provided and wondered about its meaning.
Chi Xin suggested it represented protection, an instinctual desire to guard someone or something cherished, even at the cost of personal sacrifice. Ding Xiaorou was deeply moved by his words and realized how to infuse her work with emotion, seeing a serious and dedicated side of Chi Xin for the first time. That night, as the mountain air was quiet and clear, Chi Xin called Ding Xiaorou using the paper cup phone, offering to fulfill her dreams.
Ding Xiaorou then wished that the ginkgo tree installation would go smoothly. Chi Xin, on his end, assured her her wish had been received. Ding Xiaorou mused about General Manager Mao’s cryptic phrase, "a tree, yet more than a tree," and pondered the flower language of ginkgo: "lifelong companionship and eternal love," realizing this might be the core message he desired.
When it was Chi Xin’s turn for a wish, he expressed a desire to stay in the serene mountain village longer, enjoying the fresh air, beautiful scenery, delicious fish, and the peaceful absence of phone signal. Ding Xiaorou teased him for having no exciting secrets. She then asked if he remembered the unanswered question from their Ferris wheel ride, wanting to know if their kiss that night was real or just a dream.
Chi Xin, after a pause, confirmed that it was "a real event," not a dream or illusion. The revelation overwhelmed Ding Xiaorou, causing her heart to race and triggering a Sudden sleep episode, where she fainted. The next morning, Chi Xin was already up, helping Ding Xiaorou arrange the wall. They worked cheerfully, and Chi Xin even bought ice cream, playfully feeding it to her.
Xiaotian and Fat Tiger also lent a hand, and the four of them collaboratively completed the artwork. Meanwhile, in the city, Tong Liang was harshly criticizing Zhen Zheng's latest proposal, dismissively calling it "a lump of shit" and asserting that Zhen Zheng and his team were incapable of producing quality work. Zhen Zheng demanded specific critiques and solutions, but Tong Liang merely stated they couldn’t do anything well, clarifying he was there to see results, not to educate them.
He then declared he had his own "Plan B" and "secret weapon" ready, taking a call and then instructing Zhen Zheng and his team to resume work as his "secret weapon" had arrived. Outside, he met Zheng Ze. That evening, General Manager Mao finally arrived at the small mountain village. Ding Xiaorou activated the power, illuminating the wall. The colorful origami ginkgo tree glowed brilliantly in the night, complete with a painted woodpecker.
General Manager Mao was visibly emotional, his mind drifting to sweet memories of dating Lily under a ginkgo tree years ago. He shared that he and Lily grew up in the village, sharing countless pranks, bets, and even favorite singers. The ginkgo tree was particularly significant to Lily, planted by her late father, and symbolized their connection. He had carved the woodpecker as a promise to protect her, just as the bird guards the tree.
He recounted how Lily left the village shortly after he did, seemingly to sever all ties, and he had been unable to find her since. Yet, he returns every year, believing she must too, especially with their second ten-year anniversary approaching. He was certain she would come back.
When Ding Xiaorou asked what he would do if she didn't, General Manager Mao replied that he would wait there indefinitely, asserting that "pain is a part of love," and that Lily was worth waiting for. He concluded that the true "flower language of ginkgo" is a lifelong wait for love.
As Ding Xiaorou walked General Manager Mao off, he remarked that a truly excellent artist creates with emotion and that he saw "a tree" needing protection in her heart too. Ding Xiaorou acknowledged the sentiment, realizing she also carried such a tree within. Shortly after, Zheng Ze drove into the small mountain village. He lauded Ding Xiaorou's artwork, calling it even more amazing than he had imagined, and expressed his continued confidence in her.
He then openly challenged Chi Xin, declaring that his real competitor was not among the other guests. He revealed that Tong Liang had approached him about getting Chi Xin and Ding Xiaorou on his show. Zheng Ze then theatrically tore up his confidentiality agreement with Ding Xiaorou right in front of Chi Xin, stating it no longer existed, despite the hefty penalty. He then admitted that he knew Chi Xin had feelings for Ding Xiaorou.
Later, Zheng Ze was seen telling stories to Fat Tiger and Xiaotian about Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates Regiment, the most powerful pirate in the world. Meanwhile, Ding Xiaorou looked up at the starry sky, with Chi Xin sitting beside her. She reflected on how the light from distant stars takes thousands of years to reach them, meaning the stars they see might no longer exist.
She felt a "greedy" desire to cherish these star lights, as if they were meant just for her. Chi Xin called her romantic. Ding Xiaorou shared that as a child, she would look at the stars when lonely, believing that in this vast world, someone would be waiting for her to watch the stars together. She hoped she wouldn't have to wait for thousands of years. Chi Xin, who had always considered himself a materialist, confessed that he now believed that what is meant to be, will eventually be.
Episode 23 Recap
Ding Xiaorou completed her task in the small mountain village and bid a heartfelt farewell to the landlord's family. The landlord's young son, Xiaotian, asked if she would visit again, to which she promised she would. Chi Xin then drove her back to the city.
During the ride, Ding Xiaorou enthusiastically recounted the inspiration behind her "Ginkgo tree window" display, explaining how graffiti led to the idea and how the story behind the artwork was far more compelling than the final product. She also shared her belief that the relationship between a woodpecker and a tree symbolizes protection, an innate desire to guard those one truly cares for.
She expressed seeing a similar "tree" in Chi Xin's heart, implying he, too, harbored a deep protective instinct for someone or something. The next morning, Ding Xiaorou was abruptly woken by a phone call from SA Yi, who, upon finding out Ding Xiaorou had returned to the city without contacting them, instructed her to immediately come to a cafe. SA Yi hyped the news as "nuclear bomb-level," coming from He Mingzhu.
At the cafe, both He Mingzhu and SA Yi immediately started grilling Ding Xiaorou about her relationship with Chi Xin, teasing her about eloping. Ding Xiaorou clarified that Chi Xin was assigned by their boss, Mr. Mao, to assist with the window display, and that they were simply good friends and neighbors.
SA Yi, citing theories from American TV shows, claimed Ding Xiaorou was lying because her eyes darted to the right when she spoke, and insisted that no pure friendship exists between men and women. Ding Xiaorou dismissed their "theories," eager to hear He Mingzhu's big news. He Mingzhu then dramatically announced that she was getting married to Zhen Zheng. He Mingzhu elaborated on Zhen Zheng's proposal.
She revealed that Zhen Zheng, who notoriously dislikes sweets, surprised her by buying a super-sized ice cream, eating it with her, and proposing right then and there. Initially, she found the proposal lacking in grandeur, but seeing his genuine effort to do something he detested, combined with his earlier concerns about her well-being due to her overworking, deeply touched her, and she tearfully accepted. SA Yi humorously remarked on how love makes people irrational.
SA Yi then revealed that one of her patients was skilled in tarot card reading and could supposedly identify one's true love. Ding Xiaorou, intrigued, asked SA Yi to introduce her. Seizing the opportunity, SA Yi playfully demanded gifts from Ding Xiaorou, who, having earned well from her recent project, readily agreed to buy expensive presents for her friends. Meanwhile, Chi Xin was busy searching for a new office, specifying a prime location with good lighting and immediate occupancy.
He dismissed a real estate agent's suggestions for places that were too remote or small and refused to increase his budget. Zhen Zheng called Chi Xin, teasing him about how Ding Xiaorou's social media posts made his recent trip look like a relaxing vacation, despite Chi Xin's insistence it was more work than usual. Zhen Zheng also pointed out Chi Xin's telltale sign of looking to the right when lying, a trick he learned from He Mingzhu.
Later, Ding Xiaorou and SA Yi went shopping for the "bribe" gifts. They chose three distinct clavicle chains: a red one for SA Yi, a blue one for Ding Xiaorou, and a pink one for He Mingzhu, which Ding Xiaorou believed He Mingzhu would love. SA Yi confirmed their appointment with the divination master for 3 PM that afternoon, limited to a thirty-minute session.
During the divination session, the master first spoke to SA Yi, revealing that she possessed great charm but was self-sabotaging her romantic life. The master explained there was someone in her heart whom she couldn't or wouldn't approach for her own reasons, urging her to open her heart to more possibilities. SA Yi acknowledged the truth of this but offered no further details.
Ding Xiaorou then eagerly took her turn, recounting the story of the Ginkgo tree display and how it made her question the meaning of the tree and the identity of the person she was waiting for in her heart. However, the master interrupted, stating that their thirty-minute appointment was over.
Despite SA Yi's attempts to extend the session, the master declined, instead offering Ding Xiaorou a special "remedy": a test that, if answered truthfully, would reveal the person she was waiting for. The master even offered a 50% discount on the test. Ding Xiaorou felt duped by the test and wished she could retrieve the expensive gifts she had bought. SA Yi, however, encouraged her to at least try the test.
Still skeptical, Ding Xiaorou eventually gave her gifts to He Mingzhu and sought her advice on love. He Mingzhu, now deeply in love with Zhen Zheng, shared her philosophy: she had once thought she needed a "sweet cone machine" in a partner but discovered she needed a "juicer" to process all her complex "emotional balls" into the rich tapestry of life's experiences.
She concluded that love is ultimately "without any reason" and that Zhen Zheng, despite being different from her ideal, was the one who could bring out all her emotions. Meanwhile, Zhen Zheng, having learned that Chi Xin was planning to start his own company, had resigned from his job. He visited Chi Xin, who was preparing to move his belongings from his apartment, claiming it was just a change of office.
Zhen Zheng presented Chi Xin with his life savings, declaring his unwavering commitment to join Chi Xin's venture. He explained that after Chi Xin's departure from their previous company, he had reflected on his own career purpose. It wasn't until He Mingzhu brought up marriage that he realized his desire to provide her with happiness, which propelled him to work hard alongside Chi Xin. He swore his loyalty, promising to face success or failure together as brothers.
Chi Xin, deeply touched, accepted his offer. Back in her apartment, Ding Xiaorou reluctantly completed the divination test but remained unconvinced by its premise, tossing it into the trash. She continued eating ice cream until she experienced chest discomfort, prompting a visit to the hospital. The doctor confirmed her discomfort was due to excessive consumption of cold desserts, but also noted alarming spikes in her heart rate data, recorded by her smart bracelet.
The doctor pointed out several specific dates and times when her heart rate had significantly accelerated. Cross-referencing these times with her memories, Ding Xiaorou was shocked to realize that the person the test indicated as her "true love" was Chi Xin, as those dates coincided with significant interactions she had with him. Just as this revelation dawned on her, Chi Xin knocked on her door, claiming he needed to retrieve his tablecloth.
Flustered and trying to hide her emotions, Ding Xiaorou quickly handed him the item and curtly dismissed him, insisting she needed to focus on her "creation." Chi Xin, confused by her strange behavior, left. Later, as she worked, Ding Xiaorou mused about her complex feelings for Chi Xin, recalling his arrogant and obsessive-compulsive traits, and past incidents like him tricking her into eating daffodil seeds. Despite her reservations, the realization that he might be her fated person deeply unsettled her.
Suddenly, Zheng Ze called, urgently requesting her presence at the company for a new window display, despite the late hour. Ding Xiaorou complained, wishing she could just eat ice cream and noodles. Looking at her finished artwork, the phrase "My promise to you" seemed to resonate with her newfound emotional turmoil.
Episode 24 Recap
Ding Xiaorou was about to eat instant noodles when Zheng Ze called, asking her to meet. She arrived at the agreed location, a display window she had designed. Following Zheng Ze's instructions, she entered and found a letter and twenty-five gift boxes. Zheng Ze explained that the "Gift" themed display represented the twenty-five years of her life he had missed and expressed his desire to spend every moment of her remaining life with her.
He asked her to meet him at the Old Place at ten o'clock. Ding Xiaorou opened each box, loving every gift. Later, she met Zheng Ze by the river, where he confessed his feelings for her. Ding Xiaorou kindly refused, explaining that the person you love is like the "soup base" of spicy hotpot; with them, everything becomes vibrant and interesting, and Zheng Ze was not that person for her.
She then informed him of her intention to terminate their confidentiality agreement. Zheng Ze accepted her decision gracefully, tearing up his copy of the agreement, stating it was no longer important, and they could remain good friends. He did, however, comment that taking back the twenty-five gifts would be a "headache." Ding Xiaorou immediately called SA Yi to tell her the news.
SA Yi was furious, scolding Ding Xiaorou for rejecting such a handsome, rich, and considerate man like Zheng Ze, calling her "cursed" and accusing her of being like "Yegong Haolong"—someone who desires love but recoils when it truly appears. SA Yi wondered if Ding Xiaorou's self-inferiority was to blame.
Ding Xiaorou questioned her own decision, but SA Yi eventually softened, agreeing that it was better to be decisive in matters of the heart and reiterating her support for Ding Xiaorou's choices. That night, Zheng Ze reflected on his entire relationship with Ding Xiaorou, from their first encounter to her refusal. Meanwhile, SA Yi took out the relationship test that Ding Xiaorou had received from the divination master and completed it herself.
The next morning, while eating breakfast, Ding Xiaorou found herself thinking of Chi Xin. She absentmindedly pulled the "destined one" test questions from the trash, but a gust of wind blew the paper onto Chi Xin's window ledge. Ding Xiaorou hurried to knock on his door. She entered his apartment, stood on tiptoes to retrieve the paper, and nearly fell but was swiftly caught by Chi Xin. After quickly grabbing the test, she made her exit.
Chi Xin noticed the layout of his home, which a friend had arranged for good Feng Shui, and Ding Xiaorou commented that it was quite good. He then asked her if anything special or strange had happened to her recently, hinting at Zheng Ze's proposal, but she brushed it off. General Manager Mao met Chi Xin at the gym, offering to invest in his new venture.
Chi Xin politely declined, explaining his desire for "freedom" in his pursuit and his disinterest in external investment. Just then, Zheng Ze arrived. He informed General Manager Mao that he had confessed to Ding Xiaorou the previous day. Zheng Ze then challenged Chi Xin to a 10,000-meter race on the treadmill, with the winner earning the right to ask a question, which Chi Xin found childish. He Mingzhu took Zhen Zheng to select wedding rings.
Zhen Zheng, having invested all his savings in Chi Xin's startup, was inwardly distressed. He Mingzhu tried on several expensive rings, including a new 18K diamond female ring and a "heart-to-heart series" ring. Zhen Zheng found various excuses for each, claiming they were too common or that the diamond's color didn't suit her long fingers. When He Mingzhu pressed him for the real reason, he feigned forgetting his bank card.
He Mingzhu, jokingly referring to herself as a "wife of shop-owner," bought her preferred ring (the third one she tried) herself, telling him to pay her back for the rest of his life. Later, SA Yi, distracted and preoccupied with thoughts of Zheng Ze, made a minor error during surgery. Her Director, noting her previous perfect record of 799 surgeries, suspended her for half a month and ordered her to write an 800-word self-criticism.
Meanwhile, Zhen Zheng, who was with He Mingzhu shopping for lingerie, received a call from Chi Xin and abruptly left, claiming he had work matters to attend to. Feeling something was amiss, He Mingzhu went to his company and discovered he had resigned two days prior to start a business with Chi Xin. Heartbroken, she called Ding Xiaorou and SA Yi, crying that Zhen Zheng didn't care for her and had used their wedding money for the startup.
She dramatically suggested he might be in love with Chi Xin. Ding Xiaorou and SA Yi tried to console her, explaining that Zhen Zheng likely wanted to provide her with a better life and that they could still organize a wedding with their help. Despite their reassurances, He Mingzhu remained inconsolable and insisted on confronting Zhen Zheng. Ding Xiaorou and SA Yi frantically held her back, fearing a heated argument.
He Mingzhu eventually decided to return to her coffee shop, declaring she needed to earn money to support herself. Chi Xin and Zhen Zheng were diligently preparing their new company, but they faced a dilemma: they needed more staff but lacked the funds to hire full-time professionals. Zhen Zheng offered to take on multiple roles. Unexpectedly, their former team members from their previous company showed up, having all resigned.
They expressed their disdain for their former boss, Tong Liang, whom they considered arrogant and unethical, and declared their loyalty to Chi Xin. They told Chi Xin that they enjoyed their work and wanted to join him to create something meaningful. Chi Xin agreed to take them on, but warned them that the salaries would be significantly lower, only about half of what they previously earned.
The team, however, was unfazed, stating they were "working overtime ghosts" who didn't spend much money anyway and could live off their savings until the company became profitable. Zhen Zheng added to the sentiment, emphasizing that a man's path to success should not be hindered by anything, not even a wife.
At this moment, He Mingzhu, who had followed Zhen Zheng after seeing him carrying large boxes into the elevator, arrived and overheard his declaration about a man's path to success not being hindered by a wife, further fueling her suspicions.
Episode 25 Recap
Zhen Zheng and Chi Xin were celebrating with their newly re-formed team when a knock at the door revealed He Mingzhu. She called for Zhen Zheng, declaring that if he came out now, she would consider it an act of surrender. Inside, Chi Xin's team members wondered if Zhen Zheng and Chi Xin were truly working from home, expressing concern about whether Chi Xin would take them in. They decided to impress him with sincerity.
As He Mingzhu began counting down from five, Zhen Zheng's team members jokingly asked him what he had done to anger his girlfriend. Zhen Zheng insisted he hadn't made the kind of mistake they were imagining. Chi Xin encouraged Zhen Zheng to apologize, reminding him that women needed to be coaxed. Zhen Zheng reluctantly went out, claiming he was merely obeying orders.
He Mingzhu confronted Zhen Zheng outside, twisting his ear and scolding him for playing games with her before they were even married. She declared she knew everything. She then forcefully led him to her car, telling him to shut up when he asked where they were going, and drove off. Inside, the team members speculated on Zhen Zheng's fate, betting on a dire outcome. Meanwhile, Ding Xiaorou and SA Yi waited anxiously for news, worried about Zhen Zheng.
SA Yi analyzed the situation, predicting three possible outcomes: a big fight leading to a breakup, a cold war depending on Zhen Zheng's actions, or Zhen Zheng presenting an 8 karat diamond ring, leading to an immediate reconciliation. SA Yi confidently stated that if the outcome fell outside these three possibilities, she would change her surname to Ding. Unexpectedly, Zhen Zheng and He Mingzhu had gotten married.
He Mingzhu had been upset that Zhen Zheng made the significant decision to quit his job and start a business without consulting her, feeling unimportant and unsupported. Zhen Zheng confessed that his actions were indeed impulsive and childish, promising to always discuss things with her in the future. He then affectionately called her his "wife," which pleased He Mingzhu. He presented her with sugar-coated haws, explaining it was a wedding gift to commemorate their sweet day.
He Mingzhu accepted, joking that he got off easy. Back at the office, the team celebrated Zhen Zheng's marriage, greeting him with a special welcome and distributing the sugar-coated haws as "wedding candy." Chi Xin vowed to make their company bigger and stronger. During a brainstorming session for their new short-video brand, they discussed ideas like food, travel, and talk shows, with a preference for a food program, especially if hosted by a tall, thin man like Chi Xin.
Later, He Mingzhu called Ding Xiaorou and SA Yi, advising them to find their own true loves soon. SA Yi playfully acknowledged losing her bet, declaring she should now be called "Ding Sasa." He Mingzhu explained that in love, even anger carries a sweetness, and that a simple gift like sugar-coated haws can be treasured if it comes from the person you love. That night, Ding Xiaorou and SA Yi pondered their own romantic futures.
SA Yi, despite her experience, felt flustered, realizing it was due to Zheng Ze. Ding Xiaorou was jolted awake by a nightmare. In it, she was at an amusement park with Chi Xin, presenting him with a ginkgo leaf, a symbol of "a lifetime of waiting," and confessing her love for him. However, Chi Xin flatly rejected her, stating he had "no feeling" for her, and instead reunited with Jiang Yuan.
Waking up, Ding Xiaorou tried to reassure herself that dreams are often the opposite of reality. At that moment, Zhen Zheng messaged her and SA Yi, asking them to meet at a coffee shop far from He Mingzhu’s shop. He revealed his secret plan to surprise He Mingzhu with a wedding on her birthday tomorrow, asking for their help to transform his coffee shop into a dream wedding venue.
He admitted he was a "technical straight man" who needed their advice on what girls liked. Ding Xiaorou suggested a heartfelt wedding was more important than an extravagant one, to which Zhen Zheng confirmed he had a budget. While Zhen Zheng was in the restroom, Ding Xiaorou asked SA Yi about Chi Xin's startup. Zhen Zheng, upon his return, innocently revealed that Chi Xin had started the company "for you," shocking Ding Xiaorou.
He went on to explain that Tong Liang had used compromising photos of Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin to threaten Chi Xin, forcing his resignation. Chi Xin, being a man of strong principles, chose to resign rather than be blackmailed. Enraged, Ding Xiaorou took a taxi to confront Tong Liang. She accused him of using "despicable means" against Chi Xin, whom she praised as a good producer, and demanded he apologize.
Tong Liang mocked her, calling her "naive" and insinuating that she used Chi Xin to gain fame and rich men for money. He claimed he was kind not to expose her and Chi Xin's "dirty secret." Ding Xiaorou, overcome with anger from embarrassment, grabbed a wine bottle, attempting to strike him. Tong Liang dodged, bumping into a metal rack that sent a large box hurtling towards Ding Xiaorou. Chi Xin rushed in, shielding her from the falling box.
Tong Liang continued his taunts, further enraging Chi Xin, who then began to punch and kick him. Chi Xin then grabbed Ding Xiaorou's hand and pulled her away. Zheng Ze, who had also arrived to help Ding Xiaorou, watched them leave, reflecting that he was "only 50 meters short." As they walked away, Ding Xiaorou repeatedly apologized to Chi Xin, but he admonished her for confronting Tong Liang and for always causing trouble.
Hurt by his words, Ding Xiaorou angrily declared she would no longer bother him and walked away. Meanwhile, Zheng Ze met with SA Yi to "celebrate" his "confession failure." He told SA Yi that his feelings for Ding Xiaorou had begun and ended with a piece of chalk, and that sometimes love isn't about selfish possession. He would bless her if someone else could make her happy, implicitly referring to Chi Xin.
SA Yi then inquired why Zheng Ze was suspended from the hospital, and he attributed it to a "small mistake" during surgery, which he considered an "inevitable chance." They drank together to cope with their feelings. Alone at a bus stop, Ding Xiaorou sat crying and eating ice cream, telling herself to love herself even if no one else did. Back at Chi Xin's place, he received a delivery of many random groceries.
He called one of his team members, who explained he had bought them for Chi Xin and Ding Xiaorou as a "small gift" for the potential food program they had discussed. Chi Xin found the amount excessive. Later, Zhen Zheng brought fruit, planning to give some to Ding Xiaorou for her help with the surprise wedding. He then inquired about Ding Xiaorou, only for SA Yi to report that Ding Xiaorou had disappeared.
Episode 26 Recap
Chi Xin, Zheng Ze, and SA Yi anxiously searched for Ding Xiaorou, but she was nowhere to be found. Chi Xin separately asked people if they had seen her, but received no leads. SA Yi and Zheng Ze later went to A Hua's house, where SA Yi recognized the ginkgo tree mural designed by Ding Xiaorou and thoughtfully wrote her blessings on a ginkgo leaf. Meanwhile, Ding Xiaorou had returned to her hometown.
Her mother, overjoyed by her sudden return, prepared her favorite noodles, telling her to eat them while they were hot and advising her on mixing the ingredients. Ding Xiaorou explained that she simply wanted to surprise her mother. Her mother lovingly wiped Ding Xiaorou's mouth and was delighted when Ding Xiaorou declared her mother's noodles were the best. Ding Xiaorou’s mother even secretly took a photo of her eating to post on social media.
SA Yi soon saw Ding Xiaorou's mother's social media post and realized Ding Xiaorou had gone back home. She suggested to Zheng Ze that they go pick her up, noting that the distance wasn't too far. However, Zheng Ze believed that at this moment, the person Ding Xiaorou most wanted to see was not them. Ding Xiaorou spent time helping her mother with chores, like spreading out pickled radishes to dry.
Their interactions were filled with affectionate banter, with Ding Xiaorou teasing her mother about her stylish square dance outfits, which her mother proudly defended. Ding Xiaorou also brought a broken red umbrella, hoping to find someone to fix it. She explained to her mother that it was a significant "love token" belonging to Chi Xin and He Mingzhu, and despite its difficulty to repair, she felt compelled to try.
She later took the umbrella to a local repair shop, where the master initially suggested buying a new one, but Ding Xiaorou emphasized its immense personal significance, convincing him to take a look. Back in the city, Zhen Zheng was in a panic over the wedding preparations for He Mingzhu. He had arranged a short trip for He Mingzhu as a surprise and closed the cafe to allow Ding Xiaorou to decorate the venue.
With Ding Xiaorou now gone, he felt helpless. When he learned Ding Xiaorou was found in her hometown, his relief was short-lived as the main designer was still unavailable. Suggestions to call the police, use social media to find her, or even consult a master were debated. Zhen Zheng, frustrated, concluded that he needed a "Plan B" to change the venue, even if it meant last-minute bookings.
He was also concerned about retrieving an important item—the umbrella—which was still with Ding Xiaorou. Zheng Ze and SA Yi confronted Chi Xin, urging him to bring Ding Xiaorou back. Chi Xin was still angry, insisting that Ding Xiaorou was in the wrong for acting impulsively despite her narcolepsy, which could lead to trouble. Zheng Ze countered that love wasn't about right or wrong.
Challenging Chi Xin to a dangerous game, Zheng Ze drove his car directly at Chi Xin, stopping just in time. He then vividly reminded Chi Xin of the time they were lost in the mountains, when Chi Xin had a high fever. Ding Xiaorou ran over ten miles through the mountain roads to reach the main road, bravely stepping into the path of an oncoming car to stop it and save him, completely disregarding her own safety.
Zheng Ze passionately argued that Ding Xiaorou's selflessness showed deep feelings for Chi Xin, and Chi Xin had let her down. He asserted that Chi Xin was responsible for Ding Xiaorou leaving and must go bring her back. Chi Xin, deeply affected by Zheng Ze’s words, immediately drove off. SA Yi praised Zheng Ze’s compelling "performance." Ding Xiaorou and her mother went to buy groceries and encountered Aunt Zhang, the leader of the local square dance group.
Aunt Zhang, observing Ding Xiaorou, enthusiastically suggested setting her up with the District Director's son, highlighting his good family and two city apartments. Ding Xiaorou's mother politely declined, stating she never interferes with her daughter's romantic choices. However, Aunt Zhang persisted, mentioning a beautiful jade bracelet Ding Xiaorou's mother intended for her daughter's wedding.
Aunt Zhang then criticized Ding Xiaorou for "drifting outside" without significant achievements, suggesting she should return home to marry and have children for a stable life, like another woman's daughter who found a husband from the tax bureau. Infuriated by the disparaging remarks about her daughter, Ding Xiaorou's mother became angry from embarrassment. She passionately defended Ding Xiaorou, pulling out photos of Ding Xiaorou’s award-winning cabinet designs to show Aunt Zhang.
Ding Xiaorou quickly intervened, pulling her mother away and back home. Later that evening, Ding Xiaorou, still troubled by Aunt Zhang's remarks, asked her mother to see the jade bracelet. Gazing at its beauty, she worried about her mother’s potential disappointment if she never had a wedding to wear it. At dinner, Ding Xiaorou pondered aloud to her mother about the possibility of never finding love. Her mother tenderly reassured her, saying she would always love her.
Just then, Chi Xin arrived, having driven a long way. Ding Xiaorou, hearing his voice, quickly retreated to her room. Chi Xin explained to Ding Xiaorou's mother that he had come to apologize to Ding Xiaorou for hurtful words exchanged during a recent disagreement. Ding Xiaorou's mother spoke candidly with Chi Xin, acknowledging Ding Xiaorou's deep affection for him and praising him as a good young man.
She shared her daughter's dream of being a "dreamer" but confessed her fear that Ding Xiaorou might have dreams without a home. She envisioned a small home for Ding Xiaorou, not necessarily grand, but filled with love from someone who cherished her deeply. She spoke of raising Ding Xiaorou alone after her father's early death, and her constant worry due to Ding Xiaorou’s narcolepsy, which limited many activities.
Her ultimate hope was to hand her daughter’s hand to someone who loved her more than she did, otherwise, she would rather hold it herself. Chi Xin listened intently, understanding her concerns. As Chi Xin prepared to leave, Ding Xiaorou’s mother asked him to promise to look after Ding Xiaorou, especially with her passion for window design, and to always encourage her not to give up on her dreams, a promise Chi Xin readily made.
After Chi Xin departed, Ding Xiaorou emerged and tearfully embraced her mother. Her mother, seeing the still-broken umbrella, encouraged Ding Xiaorou to fix it herself. She advised her to examine the umbrella's structure and its specific fault, urging her to find solutions or substitutes for broken parts, expressing confidence in her daughter’s intelligence. A flashback then revealed the true origin of the red umbrella. As children, Chi Xin and He Mingzhu were neighbors who often played together.
Chi Xin, playfully, always had He Mingzhu pinch his nose, claiming it wasn't pointy enough. On her birthday, as they shared cake, Chi Xin promised to marry her when they grew up, and she said she would wait. Before He Mingzhu moved away, she gave the umbrella to Chi Xin, telling him to return it when he came to marry her.
Chi Xin recalled how he never caught up with her car that day, realizing then that she was the one he would wait for his entire life. This memory highlights the profound sentimental value of the umbrella, particularly for Chi Xin and He Mingzhu.
Episode 27 Recap
SA Yi blindfolded He Mingzhu and led her to Zhen Zheng, where He Mingzhu was overwhelmed by the sight of a brightly lit church filled with flowers. Although tearful, she playfully complained to Zhen Zheng, asking why he hadn't told her earlier so she could prepare her makeup and outfit, as she didn't even have a veil. SA Yi explained that it was Zhen Zheng's idea to surprise her, remarking that he had finally shown some thoughtfulness.
Zhen Zheng had already prepared the wedding dress, and SA Yi helped He Mingzhu get ready and put on her makeup, telling her she would be the happiest bride in the world. Ding Xiaorou arrived just in time, bringing the repaired red umbrella. As Zhen Zheng opened it, He Mingzhu was deeply moved, recalling their childhood encounter, and began to cry uncontrollably. Zhen Zheng then formally proposed to He Mingzhu, asking her to marry him.
With the Father waiting, He Mingzhu walked down the red carpet arm-in-arm with Zhen Zheng. During the simple and heartfelt wedding ceremony, Zhen Zheng affirmed, "I am willing," and He Mingzhu eagerly responded, "I do. I do." They exchanged rings and shared a kiss. Watching them, Ding Xiaorou felt a pang of envy. Chi Xin attempted to win her over, but Ding Xiaorou remained unreceptive.
Zheng Ze and SA Yi observed Zhen Zheng and He Mingzhu joyfully taking photos, while also noticing Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin's continued frosty dynamic. SA Yi shared her thoughts on love, believing that when a woman marries for love, even arguments become tender, and sadness is accompanied by happiness, defining it as true love. Zheng Ze tried to playfully flirt with SA Yi, but she skillfully dodged his advances.
Ding Xiaorou retreated into a confession booth, with Chi Xin following her. He asked why she was avoiding him, and she retorted by asking why he was following her. Chi Xin insisted he needed to talk, but Ding Xiaorou refused to listen. He then apologized, explaining that he didn't mean to upset her and that he cared deeply about her every move, even checking her Wi-Fi name to gauge her daily mood.
Though Ding Xiaorou denied causing him sleepless nights, Chi Xin confessed that his heart beat even faster than hers, suggesting that if this was love, he felt it intensely. At that moment, Ding Xiaorou received a call from Jiang Yuan. Chi Xin expressed his annoyance that someone was calling at such a crucial time. Ding Xiaorou left without a word, not even looking back, leaving Chi Xin's confession unfinished.
Jiang Yuan met with Ding Xiaorou, apologizing for contacting her late because Ding Xiaorou's phone had been off, to which Ding Xiaorou also apologized. Jiang Yuan revealed that Tiffi, a prestigious international fashion brand, was seeking a new window designer. Their Brand director had been impressed by Ding Xiaorou's "Snow country Rainbow" and "Matchparadise" designs in their magazine, making her one of three finalists for the position.
If successful, Ding Xiaorou would become their Summer store window designer on Champs Elysees, with the possibility of a long-term contract in France. Ding Xiaorou was ecstatic but also conflicted, admitting to Jiang Yuan that the thought of leaving the city for an extended period made her anxious.
Jiang Yuan advised her that while having both love and a career is difficult, "love is a luxury, bread is a necessity," and urged her to submit her resume by 6 PM that day. Alone, Ding Xiaorou pondered her dream of window design and her hesitation, also considering the strong competition. Seeking advice, Ding Xiaorou met with SA Yi. Coincidentally, Chi Xin and Zheng Ze were dining at the same restaurant, and the four ended up sharing a table.
SA Yi enthusiastically announced Ding Xiaorou's opportunity to go to France and design windows for Tiffi. Chi Xin appeared visibly disheartened, silently grilling meat. Zheng Ze, however, offered congratulations and proposed a toast to Ding Xiaorou. Chi Xin expressed his support, stating that window design was Ding Xiaorou's dream and that he, like everyone else, wished her well. Ding Xiaorou confirmed that she would pursue the opportunity if selected, emphasizing that her dream was paramount.
She reiterated Jiang Yuan's "bread and love" analogy, declaring her intention to secure the "bread" of her career. After dinner, Ding Xiaorou deliberately walked away from Chi Xin. SA Yi encouraged Ding Xiaorou to go abroad for further studies, convinced that she would become an even better person. Meanwhile, Zheng Ze urged Chi Xin to try and make Ding Xiaorou stay. Chi Xin, however, wanted to fulfill Ding Xiaorou's dream and not hold her back, believing he should support her.
Zheng Ze commented that Ding Xiaorou had indeed waited for the right person. Chi Xin then resolved to help her securely achieve her career aspirations. Later that night, both Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin lay awake, lost in thought. Ding Xiaorou recalled Chi Xin's confession about checking her Wi-Fi network name to understand her feelings, wondering what else he had wanted to say.
The next morning, Jiang Yuan called Ding Xiaorou to congratulate her on being selected for the Tiffi position. She explained it was a "one plus one" year contract, with a generous remuneration package and the potential for renewal. Ding Xiaorou was overjoyed, saying only a fool would refuse such an opportunity. She thanked Jiang Yuan, who then revealed that Chi Xin was the one she should truly thank.
Jiang Yuan presented Ding Xiaorou with a recommendation letter, written by Chi Xin "as a friend" in both English and French, which he had personally delivered to Jiang Yuan. Upon receiving Jiang Yuan's message about Ding Xiaorou's success, Chi Xin immediately went to buy a large amount of food for a farewell celebration.
He meticulously prepared Michelin Samsung instant noodles with ham, chili, and even plums, explaining to Zheng Ze that the plums were for "appetizing" and "sweet and sour" flavor to "get rid of greasiness." Zheng Ze remarked on his meticulousness, and Chi Xin replied that Zheng Ze was "too rough." As Ding Xiaorou returned home, a security guard from the Property Security Department stopped her.
He explained they were reviewing surveillance footage and needed to confirm if a man seen near her door while she was sleeping was harassing her. Ding Xiaorou watched the video and saw Chi Xin covering her with a Pirate King blanket when she was drunk. She had always believed it was Zheng Ze who had looked after her, and this revelation deeply moved her. Chi Xin had also left an invitation on her door, but it was unfortunately obscured by a property management bill for overdue fees.
Episode 28 (Ending) Recap
Ding Xiaorou prepared for her trip to Paris, calling a taxi to pick her up from home and bidding a fond farewell to her pet bunny, "Little Star," urging it to take care and miss her. Meanwhile, Chi Xin had spent the night creating a detailed Paris guide for her, complete with annotations for high-crime areas. When his power and internet unexpectedly went out, he decided to deliver the guide in person, but found no one at her door.
In a moment of unfortunate timing, they both tried to call each other simultaneously, missing the connection. The next morning, Chi Xin finally saw a message from Ding Xiaorou expressing her love and asking to meet him at the Totoro window. He immediately rushed there, but only found a note she had left in the bunny’s cage. As Ding Xiaorou's plane was about to depart, she idly opened her bill and discovered a QR code.
Scanning it with her phone, she was met with a video message from Chi Xin. In the video, he spoke from the heart, explaining that he had met an ordinary girl a month ago who loved to giggle, eat ice cream, and would fall asleep anywhere. He never thought they would have a special connection until he realized his sleep improved near her.
He acknowledged her narcolepsy, wished her success in her dreams, and presented "confession instant noodles" – a dish with her favorite ice cream and his favorite instant noodles – encouraging her to make it if she ever felt tired. He promised to silently support her from across the ocean and always be behind her, no matter how far she went. Overcome with emotion and tears, Ding Xiaorou suddenly suffered a severe narcolepsy attack and collapsed.
She awoke in a hospital, confused and disoriented, until a nurse explained that the plane had to return to Shanghai due to her medical emergency and that she needed to reschedule her flight. Realizing she hadn't left Shanghai after all, Ding Xiaorou was ecstatic, declaring her love for the city, and impulsively dashed out of the airport.
Outside, a news broadcast on a large screen caught her attention: a tragic car accident had occurred on the airport highway involving a blue Mercedes-Benz, with the driver critically injured and rushed to Mingji Hospital. Ding Xiaorou instantly recognized the car as Chi Xin's. She rushed to the hospital and, identifying herself as his girlfriend, frantically asked for Chi Xin. A doctor informed her that the accident victim was undergoing surgery and remained in a life-threatening condition.
After the surgery, as a heavily bandaged patient was wheeled out, Ding Xiaorou, believing it was Chi Xin, sobbed uncontrollably and confessed her deep love for him, begging him to wake up and keep his promise to always be there for her. Suddenly, Chi Xin appeared before her, perfectly fine. Zhen Zheng quickly explained that Chi Xin had sold his car earlier when he started his business.
Mortified and overwhelmed by the realization that her tearful confession had been heard by Chi Xin, Ding Xiaorou fainted from excitement once more. Chi Xin gently picked her up and carried her out of the hospital. Later, Ding Xiaorou woke up to find Chi Xin lying beside her. She complained about him missing their meeting the previous night, having waited for him.
Chi Xin explained that he had been preparing her Paris guide, which included recommendations for ice cream, methods to prevent narcolepsy, and a list of high-crime areas in Paris to avoid. Ding Xiaorou, now no longer going to Paris, told him that while a company like Tiffie could easily find a replacement for her, no one could replace the person who loved her.
Chi Xin then revealed that his home had been taken over by his company and all his funds were invested, leaving him "penniless and homeless," and asked her to take him in. Ding Xiaorou playfully agreed, saying it depended on his behavior. Chi Xin then proposed a playful "Plan B" to test who loved whom more, sharing a deep kiss. She wondered aloud if she would still fall asleep, to which he replied, "Not necessarily."
Meanwhile, Zhen Zheng and his wife, He Mingzhu, admired Chi Xin and Ding Xiaorou's blossoming romance. Zhen Zheng, envious, began discussing their own future, humorously urging He Mingzhu to consider having a child soon, citing their work environment's potential effects on fertility. After some initial playful resistance, He Mingzhu agreed to his enthusiastic plans. Elsewhere, Zheng Ze and Nan Sa Sa were about to leave when a scooter sped towards Nan Sa Sa.
Zheng Ze quickly pulled her to safety, then gently wiped dirt from her cheek. He then showed her a ginkgo leaf, which she had previously written on, confessing her intention to declare her love to the person who achieved "100 points" in her heart. Zheng Ze revealed he knew about her note and proudly declared he had earned "101 points," implying he was the one. Nan Sa Sa, flustered and overjoyed, gave him a quick, shy kiss before running away.
In the end, with Chi Xin’s encouragement and help, Ding Xiaorou successfully established her own window design studio in Shanghai. Chi Xin’s cooking show, "Roll, Ramen," gained immense popularity, leading to Zhen Zheng's promotion as its producer. Tong Liang, whose own programs had all failed, was demoted and began working on Zhen Zheng's show, showing a newfound deference. He Mingzhu and Zhen Zheng enjoyed a very happy married life.
Zheng Ze and Nan Sa Sa's relationship deepened, characterized by shared meals and mutual affection. Ding Xiaorou and Chi Xin became inseparable, her "curse" of being unable to fall in love completely broken. She reflected that Chi Xin was her "late letter," full of sweetness, and vowed to cherish him forever. The story concluded with all their friends finding happiness, marking the beginning of a joyous new chapter for everyone.
