After being dismissed from the swim team, Bai Yongze is resolute in his decision to forge his own path. Huang Donglei confronts Lan Xin regarding the dismissal, scolding her, but then reacts awkwardly to her. Lan Tian's attempts to intervene on Bai Yongze's behalf are fruitless. Bai Yongze leaves the club, embracing his new independence. He moves into a secluded, old house, sharing the address only with Song Chacha.
Song Chacha visits, finding the place humble, but Bai Yongze expresses his contentment, feeling liberated. She brings Pu Jun along, who offers Bai Yongze his financial support, promising not to inform Bai Yongze's parents. Soon after, Huang Donglei and other teammates, including Jiang Shi, arrive with daily necessities, overwhelming but also greatly appreciated by Bai Yongze. Lan Tian, observing Song Chacha and Bai Yongze together, grows increasingly jealous.
He later informs Song Chacha's uncle about Song Chacha's visits to Bai Yongze's new home. Meanwhile, Li Bao spreads false rumors to Bai Yongze's mother about Song Chacha, blaming her for Bai Yongze's dismissal. Luo Guanjie visits Bai Yongze to suggest a part-time job as a swimming coach. Bai Yongze takes on the coaching job, which he sometimes finds boring. Despite this, he thrives, significantly improving his own swimming skills.
Jiang Shi and Luo Guanjie occasionally join him for swimming games, deepening their friendship. Song Chacha frequently visits Bai Yongze, finishing her restaurant work early to cook for him, and the two live like a newlywed couple. Their happiness is interrupted when Pu Jun brings Bai Yongze's parents to his home. Bai Yongze's mother blames Song Chacha for his situation, and his father threatens to disown him if he doesn't return home.
However, Bai Yongze steadfastly refuses, determined to be responsible for his own choices. Lan Tian's jealousy culminates in him informing Song Chacha's uncle about her relationship with Bai Yongze. Subsequently, Song Chacha's uncle's men abduct her from Bai Yongze's home. Bai Yongze, returning home and witnessing the abduction, desperately tries to save her but is struck by an oncoming car and knocked unconscious.
