Mobius Episode 13 Recap
> Mobius Recap
On the fifth loop day, the police force initiated a full-scale search for Ye Kun. Yu Peishan reviewed Moma Biotechnology's surveillance footage but found no trace of him. An Lan was perplexed as to why Ye Kun was targeting her, but Ding Qi had a sudden realization of Ye Kun's likely whereabouts. Just seven hours prior, Ye Kun had quietly made his way to the hospital, heading directly to An Lan's mother's room.
However, before he could act, Ding Qi appeared from behind and apprehended him. Using Ye Kun's phone, Ding Qi sent a message to Mo Yuanzhi stating that An Lan's mother had been "taken care of." An Lan was bewildered, asking Ding Qi how he knew she and her mother would be in danger.
Ding Qi explained that he was a time loop perceiver, clarifying that he retained memories of everything that happened during the loops, which was different from predicting the future. He revealed that An Lan herself had told him about RN356 in a previous loop, which led her to believe him. Ding Qi confessed that this fifth loop was the toughest he had ever faced, especially since he had only just discovered that Mo Yuanzhi was also a time loop perceiver.
He added that Mo Yuanzhi had exploited this ability to commit the murders of Tang Shaorong and Han Song during previous loops. Ding Qi informed An Lan that this was the fifth and final loop. He then took her to interrogate Feng Qiming (Ye Kun), questioning him about photos of Han Song, Tang Shaorong, and Mo Yuanzhi found at his house, his actions at Tianyi Sanatorium, the bomb components, and his communications via a burn-after-reading app.
Feng Qiming remained silent throughout the interrogation. An Lan remarked on Feng Qiming's drastically changed appearance, admitting she hadn't recognized him at Tianyi Sanatorium. Ding Qi revealed that in the previous loop, however, she had recognized him, which had saved a lot of time. Ding Qi explained that Mo Yuanzhi, knowing his identity as a time loop perceiver, aimed to use An Lan and her mother—his "weakness"—to distract him from his plans.
Ding Qi noted that Feng Wanqing had once described Feng Qiming as a devoted brother who would risk his life for her, making his role as Mo Yuanzhi's accomplice unexpected. Seeing Feng Qiming's continued silence, Ding Qi decided he needed to directly monitor Mo Yuanzhi, instructing another officer to protect An Lan no matter what. Ding Qi then arrived at Mo Yuanzhi's residence.
Mo Yuanzhi was practicing boxing, and his gaze towards Ding Qi had noticeably shifted, hinting at their mutual understanding of each other's true intentions. Despite the unchanging schedule for the day, Ding Qi personally drove Mo Yuanzhi to a school for a speech. In the car, Ding Qi confronted Mo Yuanzhi about the murders of Tang Shaorong and Han Song, asserting he would soon produce concrete evidence.
He deduced that the "28" displayed on Mo Yuanzhi's desk represented the remaining storage period for nitrogen tanks, the critical time left to save Feng Wanqing's life. Ding Qi further theorized that Mo Yuanzhi required a non-time loop perceiver as an accomplice for these murders, identifying Ye Kun as that individual. Mo Yuanzhi, with a slight smirk, called Ding Qi's deductions "too green," mentioning Edward D.
Hoch's mystery novels with their constant twists, while Ding Qi countered that he preferred Detective Conan. Ding Qi then laid out his reconstruction of Han Song's death, describing Han Song's daily morning run and how Mo Yuanzhi had Ye Kun tamper with the park railing in advance, causing Han Song's accidental electrocution. Mo Yuanzhi playfully remarked on Ding Qi's deduction, but pointed out that they still hadn't apprehended the key figure, Ye Kun.
Mo Yuanzhi, acknowledging that Ding Qi had once been cleared as a suspect after his own death in an earlier loop, then revealed how he discovered Ding Qi was a time loop perceiver. He recounted how he orchestrated chaos at the Zhao family wedding during the second loop day to find his own would-be killer. It was when Ding Qi investigated the bakery after the cake explosion, knowing it would explode, that Mo Yuanzhi suspected Ding Qi.
His suspicion was confirmed on the third day when Ding Qi, using his memory of a highway accident, successfully rerouted An Lan to avoid it. Ding Qi, in turn, revealed he discovered Mo Yuanzhi's identity when Yu Shiya mentioned Mo Yuanzhi frequently left home in the early hours on loop days.
Ding Qi pressed Mo Yuanzhi about the death of Jiang Yuwen in Ivy Bay University's lab, noting that Mo Yuanzhi had rehearsed the murder four times on a loop day but ultimately didn't carry it out. Mo Yuanzhi clarified that he wasn't a time loop perceiver then and had no memory of those events, but later realized that You Yuxiang had fragments of loop day memories.
He then revealed that on the fifth loop day, Jiang Yuwen had escaped and vanished for eight years. Mo Yuanzhi explained his motive for wanting to kill Jiang Yuwen through a flashback to eight years prior. He recalled intense arguments with Jiang Yuwen, who was pushing for clinical trials of a drug despite insufficient animal data, treating test subjects like "guinea pigs" and particularly targeting Feng Wanqing. Mo Yuanzhi vehemently opposed this, especially regarding Feng Wanqing, his beloved.
Despite his efforts to develop a cure for her, Jiang Yuwen secretly signed Feng Wanqing up for a new drug trial, which tragically led to her death. Devastated by the loss, Mo Yuanzhi vowed revenge against Jiang Yuwen. Returning to the present, Mo Yuanzhi stated that Jiang Yuwen was already dead and that Ding Qi should not focus on the deceased but rather on the living, especially An Lan, who must be overwhelmed.
A staff member then informed Mo Yuanzhi that Maggie from Volly Company was scheduled to arrive in Hua'ao that morning. Mo Yuanzhi, after a brief exchange where he implied Ding Qi's presence in his "high-risk and classified zone" was interfering with his work, calmly entered his lab. Inside, he experienced a sudden jolt of pain, but quickly composed himself. He then placed a call to the investigation bureau, intending to file a complaint against Ding Qi.
