In the kitchen, Nan Xi and Xia Rui's playful moment is interrupted by Xia Rui's grandparents. Her grandmother produces old family photos, much to Xia Rui's embarrassment, which she calls her "black history." Grandma fondly reminisces about Xia Rui's childhood, noting that her mother started her career and her father passed away when she was young, leaving her upbringing largely to her grandparents. Feeling awkward, Xia Rui tries to change the subject to watching TV.
Later that night, Xia Rui finds Nan Xi awake in the living room. She attempts a "magic trick" to help him forget the embarrassing photos, but he teases her by insisting he cannot forget. Xia Rui then asks Nan Xi if he would ever want to return to his childhood. He replies no, and she agrees, stating she is very happy now, especially with her "Xiaomuto."
However, Xia Rui expresses a small regret: being ill meant she missed celebrating New Year's and her birthday with him. Nan Xi gently assures her that they can celebrate every future birthday together and wishes her a "Happy Birthday" before tenderly carrying the now-sleeping Xia Rui back to her room. On the first day after the holiday, news of Mr. Hu heroically protecting students has spread throughout the school.
At a coffee shop, Zhao Yishu notes to Xia Rui that Mr. Hu is now taking the bus because of his injuries. Cheng Erluo's heroic deed is discussed among students, with Zhao Yishu confirming that Mr. Hu intervened to save her and Cheng Erluo from gangsters on New Year's Eve. Xia Rui defends Cheng Erluo from criticism, explaining they were stunned by Mr. Hu's shouting and simply followed his command to leave.
The students deduce that Cheng Erluo spread the news before leaving for his training, unconcerned about Mr. Hu's reaction. Later in class, Mr. Hu enters limping and downplays his injuries as a mere fall in the bathroom. The students, genuinely concerned, give him a round of applause. Though emotional, Mr. Hu tries to maintain his strict demeanor, warning them not to butter him up for fewer quizzes.
He then announces a series of important seminars featuring professors from various universities, advising students to pay close attention. Zhao Yishu later discusses an upcoming lecture by an architecture professor with Xia Rui. Xia Rui initially wants to tell Nan Xi, but Zhao Yishu reminds her of Dr. Lin's warning that even slight emotional fluctuations can affect Nan Xi's grades, citing his recent drop from ninth to twelfth place.
Zhao Yishu points out that if Xia Rui asks Nan Xi to attend, he will feel obligated to go, which could backfire. She advises Xia Rui to let Nan Xi decide for himself. Nan Xi's tutoring sessions for Xia Rui become increasingly strict, making her copy sentences multiple times and memorize long poems. At the coffee shop, Mr. Hu scolds them for not studying, even mentioning that Teacher Wang had reported Xia Rui's poor dictation.
The coffee shop owner, Mr. Yi, a friend of Mr. Hu's, shows the girls a notebook Mr. Hu left behind. It contains detailed records of every student's academic situation and areas for improvement, revealing his deep dedication. Xia Rui realizes Mr. Hu is the one influencing Nan Xi's new strictness. When she confronts Nan Xi, he simply tells her to focus on memorizing the poem.
Later, Xia Rui expresses her concern that tutoring her might be negatively impacting Nan Xi's own academic performance. Nan Xi reassures her, stating that studying with her actually makes him more efficient. Relieved by his response, Xia Rui becomes determined to do something significant for him. Driven by this resolve, she corners Professor Gu, a distinguished architecture professor, in the school corridor to recommend Nan Xi. A mortified Nan Xi pulls her away.
Mr. Hu apologizes to the professor for the interruption but subtly adds that he has already mentioned the talented boy. Unwilling to give up, Xia Rui intercepts Professor Gu again as he leaves the school. She passionately advocates for Nan Xi, and her persistence draws the professor's attention to the unique wooden bag she is carrying. Xia Rui proudly explains that Nan Xi made it, highlighting its surprising lightness and clever design.
Impressed by the craftsmanship and swayed by Xia Rui's determination, Professor Gu agrees to wait for Nan Xi at the university's recruiting event. Overjoyed, Xia Rui rushes to Nan Xi's home and excitedly tells him the news, seeing it as a guarantee that removes the pressure of the entrance exams. However, Nan Xi doesn't share her excitement and instead asks if she has finished memorizing her poem.
He then reveals his true concern: if Xia Rui can't get into the same university, he won't go either. While architecture is his dream, his priority is being with her. Xia Rui confidently reassures him that she will get in. On the day of the Binhai University recruiting event, Xia Rui, Nan Xi, Zhao Yishu, and Liu Bin pose for a photo at the university gate.
Liu Bin jokes that only tourists take pictures there, and they are mocked by some passing students. Liu Bin mentions that Cheng Erluo couldn't join them because he has his final game. As they talk, a boy surrounded by a group of girls walks past, his gaze lingering on Zhao Yishu.
