Wu Shiyi and her four team members, Hua Hua, Ting Fen, Ma Chao, and Guohai, arrived at the hotel to start their new security assignment. Lanqi greeted them and then personally gave Wu Shiyi a tour of the premises, explaining that her room was arranged on the top floor where the hotel’s senior management resided, for her convenience. Wu Shiyi admired the ocean view, noting that the sea truly broadened one's mind.

Lanqi clarified that the hotel's general security was handled by Banks, one of their shareholder companies, and Wu Shiyi and her team's main task was to ensure his personal safety. While they weren't required for 24-hour close protection, they could not leave the hotel unless accompanying him. They would also assist the security department with hotel events, especially the upcoming grand opening reception.

Wu Shiyi found the relaxed pace somewhat unsettling after her usual demanding routine, even joking that she might have to find an enemy to stay sharp. Lanqi emphasized the importance of her recovering from her appendectomy for future work. Back in her room, Wu Shiyi glanced at Hou Jue's WeChat, hesitating to send a message. Meanwhile, Sister Zhang arrived at Hai Xing’s restaurant, having returned from her hometown in Sichuan.

She brought bacon and sausages, favorites of Hou Jue and Wu Shiyi, and asked Hai Xing to call them both. Hai Xing awkwardly explained that Hou Jue was still sleeping and Wu Shiyi no longer lived there. Sister Zhang was deeply disappointed in Hou Jue, reminding him of his grand promises to make something of himself when he left home. She scolded him for his current decadent state, agreeing that Wu Shiyi was right to leave him.

She urged him to return home, apologize to his father, Hou Zhirong, and work properly. However, Hou Jue refused, stating he intended to go to Shenzhen to follow up on a project that a company had shown interest in during his previous visit, which he hadn't signed due to his hurried return. Hai Xing, concerned about Hou Jue's state, felt Sister Zhang’s scolding might be beneficial. Later, Qian Qian visited Wu Shiyi and asked if Hou Jue had contacted her.

Wu Shiyi shook her head, guessing he was probably busy with his work, which she hoped had gotten on track. Just as Qian Qian was about to tell Wu Shiyi about Hou Jue's situation, Lanqi approached them. He informed Wu Shiyi that the villa was ready and her mother, Zhang Yingnan, and Wu Tianyi would be staying there for a few days to attend the hotel's opening reception.

Witnessing Lanqi's thoughtful care for Wu Shiyi and her family, Qian Qian decided not to disclose Hou Jue's predicament. She privately thought Lanqi was a good match for Wu Shiyi, given their history and his attentiveness to her family. Despite Wu Shiyi's lack of romantic feelings for Lanqi, Qian Qian urged her not to give up on him and to consider giving him a chance. Wu Shiyi, however, firmly stated it was impossible.

After Lanqi left, Qian Qian realized she'd forgotten what she wanted to say, concluding it wasn't important. Back in his restaurant, Hai Xing worried about Hou Jue, who seemed to have finally decided to act. He confirmed Hou Jue was heading to Shenzhen to explore cooperation opportunities with the company Chen Chen had mentioned. Qian Qian later called Hai Xing, telling him she hadn't told Wu Shiyi about Hou Jue.

She admitted feeling sad but believed it was time to let the past go. At Hou Zhirong's company, a crisis loomed as new suppliers, aware of their difficulties, conspired to inflate prices by five percent above market value and demanded upfront payment. Mr. Ma advised Hou Zhirong to make a decision. Hou Zhirong, recognizing the need to concede, decided to sign with whoever could deliver fastest, acknowledging that "when it's time to bow, you must bow."

Mr. Ma recalled a similar crisis when he first joined the company, where they overcame difficulties under Hou Zhirong's leadership. However, Hou Zhirong felt this time was different; he admitted to feeling old and not as capable as before. Overwhelmed, Hou Zhirong suffered a heart attack. His secretary tried to call an ambulance, but Hou Zhirong vehemently stopped her, fearing that news of his illness would demoralize his staff.

He took his medication and refused Mr. Ma's suggestion to call Hou Jue, not wanting his son to see him in such a vulnerable state. Hou Zhirong then asked Mr. Ma to summon the finance manager, Mr. Zhang, to whom he intended to announce new arrangements. Mr. Ma, fearing his own hidden affairs might be exposed, initially tried to obstruct the delegation using Hou Zhirong's health as an excuse.

However, Hou Zhirong insisted, and in front of Mr. Zhang, he tearfully entrusted Mr. Ma with handling all financial and major payment contracts requiring his signature moving forward, stating, "Fortunately, I have you." After this delegation, Mr. Ma stepped into the restroom to compose himself, his expression complex. In Shenzhen, Hou Jue visited the company only to be informed by a receptionist that Mr. Zhang Sheng had resigned approximately a week ago.

When Hou Jue inquired further, Mr. He, an administrative manager, explained that the "Green Leaf Book Bar" project Hou Jue had discussed with Zhang Sheng was never Zhang Sheng's responsibility. Mr. He added that Zhang Sheng and his entire department had collectively resigned last Friday—the very day Hou Jue had presented his proposal.

Realizing he had been tricked and that his design proposal was now with the unreachable Zhang Sheng, Hou Jue angrily called Chen Chen, complaining about her "unreliable" friend. Chen Chen, equally surprised and indignant, declared that she wouldn't tolerate being deceived. She promised to fly to Shenzhen immediately to help him get an explanation. Later, Wu Shiyi and Lanqi discussed their past relationships.

Wu Shiyi explained that the incident with Da Peng had shattered her trust in others, making her question her previous plans for marriage and family. She recounted an episode where Da Peng had taken an advance payment for a magazine article but only wrote half of it. When the deadline passed and the editor inquired, he claimed he had sent it and accused the editor of discarding it, even threatening legal action.

Wu Shiyi initially supported him, believing he was fighting for his rights, only to later discover the incomplete manuscript hidden in his study. This revelation taught her a bitter lesson about trust. She admitted that even after seven years as a bodyguard, she still struggled to be guarded in her personal life, finding it too exhausting to be constantly suspicious, preferring to believe in the inherent goodness of people.

Lanqi, recounting his own experience, shared how his fiancée left him for her ex-boyfriend in Las Vegas just before their wedding. He revealed his ex-fiancée was a police officer, and her ex-boyfriend was a criminal she had arrested on her first day. They fell in love after his release, but he later re-offended. Wu Shiyi found his story dramatic, and Lanqi mused that some people are simply destined for dramatic lives, while he yearned for a peaceful, stable one.

Soon after, Chen Chen flew to Shenzhen to help Hou Jue get an explanation. Upon arriving and seeing that Wu Shiyi was not with him, Chen Chen was in a remarkably good mood. She noted his current predicament was worse than an enemy's, which surprisingly made her happy. Despite her teasing, she assured him she would help him seek an explanation, both for his sake and because she wouldn't tolerate being deceived herself. In her good spirits, she offered to fulfill one of his wishes.
