Ji Bozai, suffering from severe spiritual vein damage due to divine retribution, was helped back to Wugui Sea by Ming Yi. There, she immediately used her own spiritual veins to heal him. Ji Bozai was shocked by this revelation, demanding to know what other secrets she had kept. Ming Yi first pleaded with him to allow her to treat Twenty-Seven, who was gravely injured from his encounter at Mu Qibai's place and would die without prompt care.

She explained that Twenty-Seven, Ming Xian's companion beast, responded to her because she and Ming Xian had grown up like inseparable twins. She then fabricated a story, claiming to be Ming Xian's betrothed. She stated that after Ming Xian's defeat in the Qingyun Tournament—which she believed was due to sabotage by his half-brother Ming Xin and possibly someone from Jixing Abyss colluding with Yaoguang Mountain forces—Ming Xian disappeared.

To survive and seek revenge, she concealed her spiritual veins, left Yaoguang Mountain, and came to Moonlit Blossoms to approach Ji Bozai. She admitted her ulterior motives but insisted their goals aligned in opposing Mu Qibai and that she never intended him harm. Ji Bozai, however, remained furious and declared he would rather kill her than Mu Qibai, finding it hard to believe her after her deceptions. Ji Bozai subsequently confined Ming Yi and Twenty-Seven to a cold, damp cell.

Despite her own injuries, Ming Yi put on a brave face for the concerned Twenty-Seven, reassuring him that they would be fine and attributing their predicament to their enemies' cunning rather than his fault. Twenty-Seven, however, pointed out that Ji Bozai had risked divine retribution and formed a heart imprint with her for her sake, yet still couldn't bring himself to kill her, suggesting their plan was working and he had indeed fallen for her.

Ming Yi, acknowledging her own "heartlessness," conceded that love couldn't save her life. She proposed that they needed to convince Ji Bozai to cooperate, especially to obtain the Golden Millet Dream from the Spirit Well, but first, they needed to escape the prison. Meanwhile, Ji Bozai's subordinate, Buxiu, urged him to eliminate Ming Yi, fearing she might access the Golden Millet Dream through their heart imprint.

Ji Bozai assured him he had a way to prevent that, but sent Buxiu to Yaoguang Mountain to investigate Ming Xian's disappearance instead of allowing him to harm Ming Yi. Over the next few days, Ji Bozai ignored Ming Yi's pleas and attempts to gain his sympathy through the cell bars, dismissing her apparent weakness as a manipulative act. He stated he would only consider cooperating once she was truly honest.

Buxiu returned from Yaoguang Mountain, reporting that Ming Xian was indeed missing, and there was no record of him having a betrothed, though he was known for many romantic liaisons. Buxiu concluded that while Ming Yi's true identity remained unclear, she definitely had a connection to Ming Xian. Ji Bozai decided to keep Ming Yi for the time being, recognizing her utility in the complex situation, although Buxiu sensed Ji Bozai's deeper feelings for her, despite his outward indifference.

Separately, Yan Xiao, deeply disturbed by his witnessing Mu Qibai's murder of Xun Ming, attempted to advise Princess Tianji. He cautioned her against overtly defending Ji Bozai and warned her not to directly oppose Mu Qibai. Tianji, however, misunderstood his motives.

She confronted him, accusing him of failing her and reminding him that she had initially made him a warrior hoping to sway him to her side, as he held her uncle's trust and was positioned to safeguard her father's health. Disappointed by his apparent allegiance to her uncle, she declared she would no longer harbor any expectations for him. She also lamented that Yan Xiao had failed to warn her about Ming Yi, leading to her humiliation within Shouhua Academy.

She concluded that her expectations were foolish and their relationship had become meaningless. Soon after, Princess Tianji summoned both Ji Bozai and Ming Yi, questioning Ming Yi's identity and the presence of Ming Xian's companion beast. Ji Bozai firmly protected Ming Yi, who cleverly interjected, explaining that Lord Hanfeng's (Mu Qibai's) spies had discovered the companion beast in Wugui Sea and used it to slander them.

Ming Yi asserted that her presence, rather than being a liability, secured Ji Bozai's continued service to Jixing Abyss. Tianji, conceding Ming Yi's unexpected shrewdness, acknowledged that Mu Qibai's accusations regarding Ming Yi's identity were merely a pretense. Despite this, given the public nature of the incident, Tianji insisted Ming Xian's companion beast could not remain. Ji Bozai, however, insisted on keeping it, claiming he would use it to lure Ming Xian if he ever returned.

Tianji finally agreed but demanded that Ji Bozai consult her on all future matters. As they left the meeting, Ming Yi thanked Ji Bozai for saving Twenty-Seven. She then sincerely apologized for her past deceptions and pleaded with him to cooperate, emphasizing that Mu Qibai remained their true enemy.

To prove her sincerity and usefulness, she revealed that the key to defeating the netherbeast army was the Netherbeast Refining Skill, a powerful but dangerous technique that required using one's body as a "cauldron" to absorb and refine netherbeast cores, at the risk of severe spiritual vein damage. Ming Yi bravely offered to undertake this perilous role herself.

Seeing her earnestness, Ji Bozai was moved and set three conditions for their alliance: Ming Yi was forbidden from contacting anyone outside Wugui Sea, she must respond to his summons at any time, and she was only to teach him the technique, not to act as the "cauldron" herself. Ming Yi accepted these terms. With Ming Yi's intelligence, Ji Bozai began to expose Mu Qibai's activities to Tianji.

Tianji then announced the list of warriors for the next Qingyun Tournament, including Ji Bozai, Chen Xi, Meng Yangqiu, Sun Liao, and Yan Xiao. Mu Qibai intended to use the training as a pretext to house the warriors in Jixing Palace, allowing him to secretly investigate the Golden Millet Dream. Tianji, however, thwarted his plan by ordering all five warriors to reside in Shouhua Academy instead, making training and supervision easier.

Ji Bozai seized this opportunity and brought Ming Yi with him to Shouhua Academy, claiming he couldn't be without her and dismissing her worries about Tianji's disapproval. His preferential treatment, including a private room, raised eyebrows among the other warriors. Later, Mu Qibai privately confronted Yan Xiao, dismissing his medical background as unsuitable for a warrior and questioning his ambitions, implying he couldn't rise like Ji Bozai.

Mu Qibai then warned Yan Xiao to abandon any hope of reconciling with Tianji, promising to erase Tianji's memories and "bestow" her upon him once his plans were complete. Yan Xiao, however, rejected this, stating Tianji was not an object to be given and that he was unworthy. Undeterred, Mu Qibai ordered Yan Xiao to continue monitoring Ji Bozai at Shouhua Academy. Meanwhile, Ming Yi informed Ji Bozai that Twenty-Seven's investigation revealed Dragon Carp Terrace was impenetrable without a diversion.

To "lure the tiger out of its mountain lair," they staged a public, furious argument. Ming Yi pretended to throw Ji Bozai out of their room, accusing him of infidelity and lack of trust, dramatically breaking a teacup to symbolize their shattered relationship. Ji Bozai retorted with accusations of his own before storming out.

He then went to Moonlit Blossoms, feigning drunkenness and profound sorrow over his marriage, loudly lamenting his ill fortune and complaining that his wife had kicked him out without money. When the Moonlit Blossoms mistress inquired if she should summon Ming Yi for payment, Ji Bozai instead insisted she call his "best brother," Mu Qibai.

Despite his attendants' suspicions of a trap, Mu Qibai arrived, where Ji Bozai embraced him, tearfully warning him against marriage and continuing his dramatic display, much to the amusement of other guests.
