He couldn't bear to see Duo Xia being so wronged in Wei, but Duo Xia believed that Yuan Ling always deferred to Wei's decisions. Shi Yi comforted Yuan Hao, saying, "The world is full of ups and downs in human relationships; if one were to truly pursue it, where would one not feel disheartened?" Yuan Hao, however, said that he couldn't even protect Luan Fei now. He had no choice. Yuan Ling listened and decided to find a way to let Luan Fei go, even if this would greatly anger the Emperor. Yuan Hao was extremely grateful.

He expressed his willingness to return with them to beg for forgiveness, saying that he and Luan Fei, even if they were separated by vast distances and never saw each other again, it would be better than a separation of life and death.
