> Joy of Life Season 2 Recap

Lin Wan’er, after hearing from Li Chengze that Fan Xian killed her brother Lin Gong and seeing him write a letter to Haitang Duoduo, became even more furious. She used the dagger Li Chengze gave her to peel fruit, her hand trembling with rage. Fan Xian sensed that something was troubling her. Lin Wan’er questioned whether Fan Xian had long known that Lin Gong orchestrated the assassination on Niulan Street.

Fan Xian confessed that he had, but he didn’t kill Lin Gong. He knew it was Wu Zhu, but he didn’t say anything. Lin Wan’er was deeply conflicted—torn between her brother and the man she loved. She would rather Fan Xian lie to her so she’d never learn the truth. Fan Xian couldn’t bring himself to tell her, not wanting her to face such a painful choice. Years ago, the Empress’s clan killed Ye Qingmei.

Qing Di ordered Fan Jian and Chen Pingping to slaughter the entire clan. From that day, the Empress avoided Qing Di. After learning Fan Xian was the son of Ye Qingmei and Qing Di, she proactively went to confess, begging Qing Di to strip her title and punish her. Lin Wan’er suspected that Wu Zhu killed Lin Gong and wanted to avenge her brother.

Fan Xian advised her to give up—there was no way she could defeat a grandmaster like Wu Zhu. Lin Wan’er insisted on trying, even if it cost her life. She couldn’t bear to see Fan Xian framed by Li Chengze and warned him to beware. That’s when Fan Xian realized Li Chengze had told Lin Wan’er about Lin Gong. Unable to face him, Lin Wan’er left in anger, leaving Fan Xian heartbroken.

The Empress, before dying, wanted to admit her wrongs to Fan Xian. She suspected the assassination attempt at Guangxin Palace was orchestrated by Li Yunrui and pleaded with Qing Di to punish her. Without Li Yunrui, Li Chengze would lose his main backer, preserving Li Chengqian’s claim to the throne. Fan Ruoruo, who overheard the conversation between Lin Wan’er and Fan Xian outside the room, stayed by Fan Xian’s side without leaving.

Fan Xian worried about Lin Wan’er and prayed Wu Zhu wouldn’t hurt her. Qing Di refused to let the Empress see Fan Xian or strip her title. The Empress knelt and pleaded bitterly for Qing Di to punish Li Yunrui. Qing Di had already seen through her—she had orchestrated the Guangxin Palace assassination and framed Li Yunrui. The Empress stormed off in rage.

As she passed by the indestructible armor designed by Qing Di, he shot an arrow through it as a warning. Terrified, the Empress collapsed to the ground. Qing Di invited Fan Xian to Xuankong Temple to admire flowers and even had a dummy made in Fan Xian’s likeness accompany them, hoping to use it as bait to lure Wu Zhu.

Fan Jian, upon learning Fan Xian had left the city with Qing Di as bait, feared for his safety and rushed to confront Chen Pingping. Not wanting conflict, Chen Pingping went to Fei Jie’s Third Division to avoid him. As Qing Di expected, Wu Zhu had been secretly following Fan Xian’s convoy, protecting him. Suddenly, the Temple Messenger appeared, disguised like Wu Zhu and mimicking his movements. He had followed Wu Zhu from Jiangnan, creating a series of murders.

He intended to take both Wu Zhu and Ye Qingmei back to the temple. With Ye Qingmei dead, he wanted to take her son, Fan Xian, instead. Wu Zhu, seeking to recover his lost memories at the temple, would not let anyone harm Fan Xian. He fought fiercely with the messenger. Their battle led them to Xuankong Temple. Qing Di had laid a meticulous trap there.

As Wu Zhu and the messenger neared the temple, the imperial guards rained arrows on them, but they remained unharmed. After a fierce battle, both were severely injured. Wu Zhu stabbed the messenger and, despite his own wounds, managed to escape. Qing Di brought Fan Xian to Xuankong Temple, where the only portrait of Ye Qingmei was kept. In the painting, she carried the large box on her back—though it was a side profile, her determination and charm shone through.

She looked exactly like the radiant woman described by Fan Jian and Chen Pingping. It was Fan Xian’s first time seeing his mother’s face, and he was overwhelmed with emotion. The imperial guards brought back the Temple Messenger’s body. Qing Di found it was not human and ordered it burned. Then, he took Fan Xian to see the flower field Ye Qingmei had loved and spoke of her past.
