Joy of Life Season 2 Episode 29 Recap
> Joy of Life Season 2 Recap
Fan Xian held a pot of chrysanthemums in his hands as he followed Gong Dian toward the Hanging Temple built between two mountains. The only path to the temple was constructed along the mountainside, a winding staircase leading straight to the mountaintop. Fan Xian and his party quickly climbed to the top. The Hanging Temple was within sight when they encountered a long procession of workers slowly descending the mountain. These were the craftsmen who had built the temple.
During the Chrysanthemum Appreciation Gathering, no unauthorized personnel were allowed to remain on the mountain. The craftsmen were chained together with long iron chains, their hands and feet bound. Fan Xian found it strange, and Gong Dian explained that this was royal territory concerning Qing Di's safety. These workers would never again see their families. After descending the mountain, they would be detained together and only return to work after the gathering concluded.
Qing Di had not only specified the pot of flowers for Fan Xian to deliver but also directed where it should be placed. Fan Xian had no choice but to comply. Just as he was about to leave with Gong Dian, he suddenly heard light footsteps on the roof. He leapt onto the rooftop, with Gong Dian quickly following. They scanned the area but found no one.
Standing on the roof, Fan Xian looked down at the breathtaking scenery and couldn’t help but admire it aloud, regretting that he hadn’t attended the Chrysanthemum Appreciation Gathering three years earlier. As he was about to leave, Fan Xian suddenly felt his inner energy running chaotically through his body. He lost balance and almost fell. Gong Dian caught him in time and urged him to seek his master's help to regulate his energy, or else he would suffer serious damage.
Fan Xian falsely claimed he had no master and was self-taught. Gong Dian didn’t believe him. Fan Sizhe returned home to bid farewell to his parents before leaving for Northern Qi. Fan Jian offered to play pai jiu with him and even prepared a large sum of money. Thanks to his superb skills, Fan Sizhe won a lot, while Fan Ruoruo quickly lost everything and let Lin Wan'er take over.
Due to her long-term illness, Lin Wan'er had rarely left the house and often played pai jiu alone. Her skills were impressive and nearly matched Fan Sizhe’s. He couldn’t stop praising her. Fei Jie woke up groggily and realized Chen Pingping had sent people to bring him back. When Fan Xian returned home and saw Fan Sizhe fully engrossed in the game, night was falling.
Fan Jian told Fan Sizhe to eat and continue playing, not to leave until he had won all his money back. Fan Xian could tell that Fan Jian was reluctant to let Fan Sizhe go to Northern Qi and was using pai jiu to delay him. Fan Sizhe, eager to pursue his dreams in Northern Qi, offered all his money for a final decisive round—if he lost, he would leave immediately; if he won, he would continue playing.
Fan Jian and Liu Ruyu were eliminated right after the first round. Lin Wan'er was torn, unsure whether to win or lose. Seeing Fan Sizhe's determination to leave for Northern Qi, she used her ultimate skill and won. Fan Sizhe accepted the loss wholeheartedly, said goodbye to his family, and left without looking back. As the Chrysanthemum Appreciation Gathering approached, Fan Xian took a carriage to the Hanging Temple, following the Forbidden Army’s instructions along the way.
Ye Zhong, commander of the Kyoto garrison, had been waiting in the forest. He wanted to spar with Fan Xian, who had no choice but to oblige him for a round. Ye Zhong pulled Fan Xian aside, saying he and the Forbidden Army were guarding the perimeter and asked Fan Xian to protect Qing Di closely, fearing an assassination attempt.
He also gave Fan Xian a banknote to help cover the inner treasury’s deficit, but Fan Xian, trusting in the temple's tight security, declined the money. Fan Xian soon arrived at the mountain base and happened to see Qin Heng on duty. He learned that Qin Ye hadn’t come to the gathering. Li Chengru, Li Chengqian, Li Chengze, and Li Chengping climbed the steps toward the Hanging Temple. Li Chengping was gasping for breath from exhaustion.
As Li Chengqian admired the view, Li Chengze suddenly pushed him, nearly causing him to fall off the mountain. Li Chengqian was terrified, but Li Chengze claimed he was just joking. Qing Di joined the four princes, and they went to admire the chrysanthemums together. Suddenly, thick smoke billowed from the Hanging Temple. Concerned for Qing Di’s safety, Fan Xian climbed up the cliff. Ye Zhong led the Forbidden Army to extinguish the fire, which was quickly put out.
Wang Qinian found a fire starter at the scene and suspected arson. Fan Xian rushed to protect Qing Di, who instead scolded him for overreacting. Qing Di mocked him for being frightened by a little fire. Fan Xian swore to protect Qing Di with his life, but Qing Di dismissed his concerns. Fan Xian then rallied the four princes to pledge their loyalty together.
Qing Di invited them to drink and appreciate the flowers, even asking Fan Xian to share a drink with Li Chengze to resolve their conflict. Fan Xian reluctantly complied. Suddenly, a man jumped out from among the Forbidden Army and drew his sword to stab Qing Di. Chaos erupted. Li Chengqian fell to the ground, and Fan Xian and Li Chengru rushed forward to fight the assailant.
Then, an assassin dressed in white descended from the sky, heading straight for Qing Di. Li Chengping was beside Qing Di; Fan Xian pushed him aside. A eunuch by Qing Di’s side pulled a dagger from under a tray and also attempted to assassinate him. As Fan Xian turned to help, he found the eunuch already dead—Qing Di was unharmed. Seeing things had gone awry, the white-clad assassin immediately fled.
Qing Di recognized him as the younger brother of the grandmaster Si Gujian and ordered Fan Xian to pursue him. Fan Xian gave chase with all his might. The assassin fought while retreating, but Fan Xian didn’t let up. They battled from the mountain-top temple all the way to the sea of flowers. Civil and military officials screamed in fear. Fan Jian, worried about Fan Xian's safety, confronted Qing Di, accusing him of endangering Fan Xian.
Qing Di claimed that with the mountain sealed by the imperial guards, Fan Xian’s life was not in danger. He invited Fan Jian to continue enjoying the flowers, but Fan Jian remained anxious, keeping an eye on Fan Xian’s whereabouts. Fan Xian and the white-clad swordsman chased each other through a forest of pagodas. Fan Xian felt the man seemed familiar and suspected he had been hiding in the capital. The man only smiled without answering.
