Joy of Life Season 2 Episode 14 Recap
> Joy of Life Season 2 Recap
Just as Fan Xian arranged for Fan Sizhe to escape to Northern Qi, Li Chengze sent Fan Wujiao to secretly follow him, planning to capture him later. Though Fan Wujiao was not a ninth-rank expert, he was still a top-level fighter. Before he could make a move, he was knocked out on the spot by the superior ninth-rank master Haitang Duoduo. The Imperial Inspectorate brought Fan Wujiao back to the capital.
Li Chengze had arranged for three death soldiers to kill Miss Jin at Baoyue Brothel, deliberately leaving clues to get caught and falsely accuse Fan Xian of being the mastermind. He hoped this case would completely destroy Fan Xian and Fan Sizhe. Unexpectedly, he fell into Fan Xian’s trap. Fan Xian played the Fan Wujiao card and forced Li Chengze into a desperate position.
Li Chengze dared not admit that he sent Fan Wujiao to pursue Fan Sizhe, nor that he ordered the death of the three soldiers to silence them. This round ended in a crushing defeat for Li Chengze. Lin Ruofu had long harbored suspicions about Fan Xian’s relationship with Haitang Duoduo. When Fan Xian had her capture Fan Wujiao, Lin Ruofu was both impressed by Fan Xian’s precise planning and increasingly uneasy, unsure about entrusting Lin Wan'er to him.
Fan Xian repeatedly explained that he and Haitang Duoduo were merely allies with no emotional entanglement. Only then did Lin Ruofu feel slightly reassured. Xie Bian visited the prison that night to see Fan Wujiao, warning him not to implicate Li Chengze. Fan Wujiao knew he was doomed and regretted only that he couldn’t take part in the upcoming civil exam. He didn’t want to give up on his studies.
Anticipating this, Li Chengze had Xie Bian bring him a book. Haitang Duoduo escorted Fan Sizhe to the Northern Qi capital. Fan Sizhe witnessed her unmatched martial arts skills and shamelessly tried to flatter her, even calling her “sister-in-law,” which enraged Haitang Duoduo, prompting her to give him a severe beating. Terrified, Fan Sizhe immediately shut up. Haitang Duoduo took him to an oil shop that served as Fan Xian’s intelligence outpost in Northern Qi.
Guo Baokun was on duty there and shamelessly boasted to Fan Sizhe about his contributions to the spy network. Fan Sizhe was uninterested and just wanted to take over the shop quickly. Guo Baokun eagerly asked when Fan Xian would rescue his imprisoned father, but Fan Sizhe knew nothing about it and told him to ask Fan Xian himself. Guo Baokun and Fan Sizhe packed up early the next morning and quietly left the capital in a carriage.
Northern Qi spies reported this to Langtao, who instructed Haitang Duoduo to send people to follow them secretly. The young emperor of Northern Qi, Zhan Doudou, was obsessed with Dream of the Red Chamber. She asked Haitang Duoduo to write to Fan Xian urging him to update his work, eager to read more. Haitang Duoduo was annoyed, and Fan Sizhe suspected she had feelings for Fan Xian—even Zhan Doudou misunderstood their relationship.
Fan Wujiao took all the blame upon himself, insisting he had no ties to Li Chengze. He revealed that Li Hongcheng and Yuan Meng were old acquaintances and that after Yuan Meng took over Baoyue Brothel, he had secretly signed several indenture contracts on her behalf without telling Li Chengze. When the matter was discovered, he hired killers, and when the assassins were caught, he silenced them and framed Fan Xian.
The Imperial Censorate received Fan Wujiao’s testimony and began separate investigations, but lacked solid evidence. Lai Mingcheng personally visited Fan Xian, asking to borrow files from the Imperial Inspectorate’s First Division. He brought red dates to help Fan Xian recover. Fan Xian agreed to cooperate and allowed him to consult the files. Seeing the luxurious Fan residence, Lai Mingcheng suspected Fan Jian and Fan Xian of corruption and decided to report them to Qing Di after finishing his research.
Fan Xian was both amused and impressed by Lai’s integrity. Two days later, Lai Mingcheng submitted a memorial accusing Fan Jian and Fan Xian of corruption. Civil and military officials gathered to watch the drama unfold. Qing Di summoned them all to the Imperial Study, where Fan Xian publicly accused Chen Pingping of corruption, presenting the priceless treasures Chen Pingping had given Lin Wan'er as evidence.
