Pan Yue handed over Yinyu Tower to the Chamber of Commerce for management. That evening, he held a banquet to thank everyone, but it was actually a trap set by him and Yang Caiwei. Yang Caiwei pretended to be drunk, and Pan Yue took her back to her room, believing the spy would take action. However, Yang Caiwei was conflicted. After spending so much time together, could there really be a traitor among them?

After Yang Caiwei and Pan Yue left, the old registrar and Constable Liu each made excuses to leave. When the time came, Pan Yue led a search for the spy. Constable Liu looked very uneasy, and they found evidence on him. The old registrar asked to retire and return to his hometown. Pan Yue agreed. The old registrar then inquired about Constable Liu.

Pan Yue replied that just as the nation has its laws, families have their rules—if someone did wrong, they must be punished. The old registrar pretended to leave the county office weakly but soon went to the back mountain of Yinyu Tower and found the evidence Zhuo’s father had left behind. Pan Yue had Aze wait there in advance—he had long known the spy was the old registrar and set up the trap for him to fall into.

The old registrar didn’t confess and instead took poison. But Pan Yue found the letter Zhuo’s father had left behind. He suspected Zhuo’s father wanted to leave a way out for himself, so he didn’t give the letter to the mastermind. Yang Caiwei was deeply shaken after reading the letter. Their whole family’s fate had changed because of it, and now the letter was back in her hands.

Constable Liu realized that Pan Yue had arrested him as part of the plan. He had also suspected a spy in the office and admired Pan Yue even more for his strategy. Yang Caiwei and Pan Yue went to Wangyue Bridge and asked the shopkeepers there about someone from the capital ten years ago. But the shopkeeper’s wife interrupted, so Yang Caiwei had Pan Yue use his charm to distract her.

The shopkeeper said he had indeed seen a girl named Shang, and she was a beauty. However, during the Heavenly Master resurrection case nine years ago, she died and was one of the eight victims. Yang Caiwei was terrified upon hearing this. That incident occurred during her first year in Heyang. She had gone to the scene with her master and had been so frightened she didn’t dare go out alone for a long time.

Pan Yue didn’t expect it to be so strange, so the two of them investigated the records. The eight women who died in Heyang corresponded exactly to the eight trigrams. After their deaths, the people of Heyang were in a state of panic. Unexpectedly, the Shang girl was the one who had informed Yang Caiwei’s father. Rumor had it the killer was a disciple of Luoyun Sect.

The sect leader was named Xue Jianli and had a female disciple named Lu Aige. Both were respected by the people of Heyang. Later, soldiers searched the sect and found a secret manual describing a method to attain immortality by killing and sacrificing. However, Lu Aige had already died before the first victim appeared, which led to the legend of the Heavenly Master resurrecting to kill.

Yang Caiwei recalled her master was the coroner for the case and decided to go ask him. The two of them went together to Bai Xiaosheng’s home in the suburbs, but her master wasn’t there. While Yang Caiwei went to look for someone, the master suddenly appeared and started chasing and hitting Pan Yue. Yang Caiwei hurried to explain the misunderstanding. The master was very displeased with Pan Yue and deliberately sent him out to water the fields.

Even during dinner, he avoided talking about it. That night, the two stayed there, but Pan Yue was kept awake by the master’s loud snoring, so he secretly met Yang Caiwei in the courtyard. Yang Caiwei had specially prepared wine for him. She said the master was a good person who saw her as a daughter and was naturally concerned. Back then, she was falsely accused of theft, and it was her master who testified for her.

Afterward, she insisted on following him and became his disciple. Sun Zhen once told Zhuo Lanjiang that he had never seen the mastermind either—he had only delivered something to a pawnshop in the capital. Zhuo Lanjiang went there alone but didn’t meet that person. Bai Xiaosheng also followed him and bravely confessed her feelings. But Zhuo Lanjiang insisted she leave. Meanwhile, Pan Yue diverted Yang Caiwei, saying there were things he needed to speak with her master alone.

He understood the master’s concerns and promised to handle the matter with the princess well, also asking him to believe that he would take good care of Yang Caiwei. In the end, the master didn’t make things difficult for him.
