In Blossom Episode 18 Recap
> In Blossom Recap
After discovering Yang Caiwei’s true identity, Pan Yue rushed to her residence impatiently. Holding her shoulders, he wanted to speak but couldn’t find the words. However, he quickly realized that she was now Shangguan Zhi—if her identity were exposed, she could be in great danger. So Pan Yue held back the urge to reveal himself and stepped back. At that moment, Zhuo Lanjiang arrived and tried to drive him away.
Pan Yue said he had discovered that a case was connected to the Shuibowen organization and would inform Yang Caiwei if there were any progress. Late at night, Pan Yue went over everything again. Yang Caiwei now looked like Shangguan Zhi, so the one lying in the ice coffin must have been Shangguan Zhi. Shangguan Zhi had been assassinated by the Shuibowen organization. Everything was caused by that group.
Pan Yue silently vowed to expose the Shuibowen organization and bring justice to both Yang Caiwei and Shangguan Zhi. Pan Yue went to the room Yang Caiwei once lived in. Looking at the branches she had cut, he urged them to grow quickly—after all, Yang Caiwei was coming back soon. Yang Caiwei was conflicted about whether to return to the county office to live, thinking it might be humiliating.
Pan Yue dressed up early and waited for Yang Caiwei, worried that she wouldn’t come back. Unexpectedly, Yang Caiwei, willing to yield for the sake of the investigation, returned to the county office. Everyone was happy to see her. When Pan Yue heard Yang Caiwei had returned, he pretended to be serious but was actually flustered. Yang Caiwei addressed Pan Yue formally as "Sir," and this unfamiliar way of speaking made him feel gloomy.
As Yang Caiwei lowered her head to read the case files, Pan Yue’s heart stirred at the sight of a strand of her hair falling. Focused on the case, Yang Caiwei misunderstood Pan Yue’s genuine emotions as sarcasm. Noticing he occasionally chuckled, she thought he must be under a spell. Pan Yue decided to visit Xinzheng Academy. When Yang Caiwei heard, she insisted on going with him. On the carriage, Pan Yue’s behavior made Yang Caiwei feel even more uncomfortable.
At Xinzheng Academy, the dean had clearly made careful arrangements. Pan Yue delayed him and gave Yang Caiwei a look to investigate Shen Ci. However, everyone who heard Shen Ci’s name panicked and fled. There was a room covered in black cloth—that was Chen Fu’s room. The dean said that since his son lost his sight, he had trouble moving around and thus covered the windows.
Pan Yue and Yang Caiwei wanted to take a look, and Dean Chen didn’t stop them. As they left, both felt something was off and decided to head to the back mountain. Zhuo Lanjiang tracked down the escaped prisoner but found him dead. The killer had an abnormality on the right shoulder. Recalling Sun Zhen’s odd behavior, Zhuo Lanjiang suspected him and tested him.
Later, he ordered someone to closely monitor Sun Zhen to see what he was secretly up to. Pan Yue and Yang Caiwei arrived at the eerie and terrifying back mountain. Pan Yue usually used Shangguan Lan as an excuse, but today he surprisingly agreed to take Yang Caiwei on this risky trip. Afraid of getting lost, Yang Caiwei marked trees with her knife. Pan Yue teased that her knife looked like a forensic knife used by Yang Caiwei.
Flustered, she quickly hid the knife and claimed he was mistaken. They wandered through the woods only to return to the same spot. Pan Yue wasn’t afraid; he was sure someone was playing tricks. Yang Caiwei nervously followed behind. Suddenly, a vine shot out and grabbed her. Pan Yue rushed forward and rescued her, holding her in relief. He soon discovered a mechanism—it wasn’t a haunted forest, just a mechanical trap.
Yang Caiwei noticed the soil in one spot was unusually fertile and suspected something was buried there. They dug it up and uncovered a complete skeleton, beside which lay an emblem of Xinzheng Academy. They brought the body back for autopsy, but the coroner wasn’t trustworthy. Yang Caiwei longed for an excuse to conduct the autopsy herself, and Pan Yue also wanted to give her the opportunity. The two were of one mind.
Once Yang Caiwei successfully completed the autopsy, Pan Yue finally relaxed and waited silently outside the room, even arranging a full table of good food. Fearing that Pan Yue might mistreat Yang Caiwei, Zhuo Lanjiang also brought a table of food, overshadowing what Pan Yue had prepared. After dinner, Zhuo Lanjiang carefully escorted Yang Caiwei home. Pan Yue grew even more frustrated seeing this. Zhuo Lanjiang asked if Yang Caiwei had been mistreated.
She denied it but remarked that he had been acting oddly that day. Pan Yue, reminiscing with items around him, was driven to jealousy by Zhuo Lanjiang. However, Zhuo Lanjiang believed Yang Caiwei already had Pan Yue in her heart. Seeing Pan Yue drinking alone, Bai Xiaosheng went out to buy him some sweet dumplings. On the way, she encountered a vile thug. Zhuo Lanjiang rushed in, choking the man.
Afraid Zhuo Lanjiang might kill him, Bai Xiaosheng just told the man to scram. Bai Xiaosheng’s mood was clearly off, but Zhuo Lanjiang didn’t ask. She began talking about her past—she lost her father young, and her mother was a gambler. One day, her mother said they were going to a cousin’s place where they wouldn’t worry about food or shelter. Bai Xiaosheng was happy, but upon arrival, she realized her mother had sold her for ten taels of silver.
She eventually escaped, begged on the streets, started a small business, and bought back her own indenture contract at ten times the original price. Her mother’s betrayal only strengthened her belief that only money doesn’t run away. Zhuo Lanjiang quietly listened and gave her a candy as comfort. The next day, with a clue from Yang Caiwei, the coroner revealed that the deceased had dental fillings that contained mercury.
Following the lead, Yang Caiwei and Pan Yue went to a dental shop and discovered that the corpse was actually Shen Ci! But if the corpse was Shen Ci, then who was the person in the prison?
