Waking up discarded outside the City of Bladed Snow, Yan Da felt a profound sense of betrayal by Ying Kong Shi, believing he held no value for their shared memories. Meanwhile, a celebratory feast was in full swing within the City of Bladed Snow. The Ice King expressed his gratitude to the tribal chiefs for their efforts in the War of Ice and Fire, which had brought peace to the Three Realms.

He announced his intention to declare his successor after the banquet, as his term would conclude the following year. As a token of his highest trust, the Ice King presented the five tribal chiefs with Ice Flowers, sacred gifts containing the blood of the promise-maker, which would cause death if the oath were ever broken. Ka Suo affirmed that all allies of the Ice Tribe deserved such esteemed treatment.

Ying Kong Shi then stepped forward, offering a gift of his own: the kindling left behind by the Fire Tribe in the City of Bladed Snow. He explained that upon discovering the first embers, he immediately deployed soldiers to search the entire city, successfully locating all the kindling and continuing the search for any remaining Fire Tribe spies. His foresight and thoroughness earned him widespread commendation, drawing the attention of many who had previously overlooked him.

When the Ice King offered him a reward, Ying Kong Shi boldly requested to be announced as the next Ice King. Ka Suo was taken aback, but considering his own loss of spiritual power, he thought Ying Kong Shi might indeed be the most suitable candidate. Observing the scene from afar, Shuo Gang, disguised in ice attire, witnessed Ying Kong Shi’s arguments.

Ying Kong Shi contended that Ka Suo, with his spiritual powers gone and a shortened lifespan, was unfit to rule. He highlighted the precarious state of the Ice Veil, which was slowly melting and might not last another year. In such a critical time, only he, with his mastery of the God Devouring Sword, possessed the strength to defend the Ice Tribe.

Lian Ji supported her son's claim, arguing that while Ka Suo was once the strongest, Ying Kong Shi was now more capable and thus the rightful heir. Some ministers echoed this sentiment, acknowledging Ka Suo's past sacrifice but emphasizing Ying Kong Shi's current strength and the tradition of the most capable ascending the throne. Ka Suo himself disheartenedly agreed to relinquish his claim.

Despite the growing support for Ying Kong Shi, the Ice King stood firm, postponing the announcement of his successor. Later, Shuo Gang found himself trapped in a mountain cave, held captive by a mysterious dark mist that had forcibly removed him from the City of Bladed Snow. The voice of his captor warned him that no one in the Three Realms, whether god, mortal, or sprite, could escape its control and threatened him against any further attempts to flee.

Shuo Gang, bewildered, wondered if his father, the Fire King, was testing him. The Mermaid Saintess visited the Ice King, seeking to understand his true intentions for the succession. She conveyed that while Lian Ji was her daughter by adoption, the Mermaid Tribe prioritized the greater good of the Three Realms.

She expressed her agreement with the Ice King’s ultimate decision but implied that Ying Kong Shi should not be King, hoping the Ice King would find a resolution that satisfied everyone. Meanwhile, the five assembled successors of the Seven Saints, with Bi Luo among them, urged the Ice King not to allow Ying Kong Shi to ascend.

They reminded him of an ancient omen foretelling harm to the Ice Tribe through Ying Kong Shi’s fate and demanded that Ka Suo be crowned King. The Ice King pledged to ensure Ka Suo’s ascension. The Mermaid Saintess then confronted Lian Ji, warning her that the Ice King had known for a long time that Ying Kong Shi was not his biological son. However, the Ice King remained unaware that Ying Kong Shi’s true father was the Fire King.

The Saintess used this secret to threaten Lian Ji, urging her to abandon her ambition for Ying Kong Shi to become King and to live quietly. Unmoved, Lian Ji dismissed the warning, remarking that her life's most foolish moment was letting the Saintess be her mother.

The Mermaid Saintess then revealed the Fire King (Huo Yi) had never loved Lian Ji, only using her to acquire the Teardrop Charm to find the entrance to the Divine Snow Mountain and the Hidden Lotus, with the ultimate goal of dominating the Three Realms. She warned that if Ying Kong Shi discovered his true identity and allied with the Fire King, the mortal, divine, and sprite realms would be plunged into chaos and destruction, including the Mermaid Tribe.

Lian Ji scoffed at these "myths," dismissing them as mere legends and declaring that she would control her own destiny, even if it meant the destruction of the Three Realms, as long as Ying Kong Shi became the Ice King. Enraged by Ying Kong Shi’s actions, Lan Shang confronted him, demanding he stop coveting Ka Suo’s throne. She argued that Ka Suo’s kindness and benevolence were essential kingly qualities, and she would never support a "heartless traitor" like him.

Ying Kong Shi countered that Ka Suo loved Li Luo, and Lan Shang, who was expected to be Ice Queen, should not interfere. He even offered to marry her himself if the Mermaid Tribe truly wished her to be Ice Queen. Lan Shang vehemently rejected this, stating she only wished to marry Ka Suo and live freely, not to be a queen. Ying Kong Shi then questioned if she had ever considered Ka Suo's feelings.

The Ice Queen pleaded with Ka Suo to fight for the throne, stressing that he was her only remaining child and had sacrificed so much. Ka Suo, feeling unfit to be King due to his lost spiritual powers and shortened lifespan, reiterated his belief that Ying Kong Shi was more suitable. The Ice King then appeared, supporting his wife's demand and threatening to banish Li Luo from the divine realm forever if Ka Suo again renounced his claim.

Ka Suo questioned their persistence, given his lack of spiritual power to lead, but neither parent would give a direct answer, only emphasizing the critical importance of his fight for the throne for the sake of the entire Ice Tribe. Ka Suo later sent a messenger eagle to Li Luo, asking her to meet him in the Forest of Snow and Fog.

He initially asked her to teach him how mortals fish, then confessed his desire to live as a commoner in the Mortal Realm, far from divine conflicts, believing his condition would only bring disappointment in the Divine Realm. He lamented that he could no longer use magic to create ice sculptures, and would have to learn how to fish to survive. Li Luo, shedding tears, readily agreed to join him, vowing not to let him face it alone.

She painted a picture of a peaceful life with him, filled with simple joys like drinking on the roof, flying kites, and fishing together. Moved by her unwavering devotion, Ka Suo retrieved a ring, preparing to propose to her. At that very moment, the sword spirit within Ka Suo sensed a scent of blood, instantly seizing control of his body. Li Luo, unable to stop him, was struck by Ka Suo’s powerful blow and fell into the river.

Ka Suo slowly regained consciousness, horrified by his actions. Qin Chu, who had witnessed the entire event, angrily took Li Luo away. Devastated, Ka Suo blamed himself, his resolve to propose once again shattered, feeling he no longer had the right to be with Li Luo. Ying Kong Shi discovered that Lian Ji had deliberately cut her hand to provoke the sword spirit in Ka Suo.

Enraged, he confronted his mother, warning her that if she ever attempted to harm Ka Suo again, he would abandon his pursuit of the Ice King’s throne. He then picked up Ka Suo’s dropped ring, strengthening his resolve to ensure his brother’s happiness. Meanwhile, in seclusion, the Fire King sensed an instability in the life fires of his sons. He summoned Yan Da to inquire about them.

Concerned for her father's health, Yan Da lied, claiming that Shuo Gang, who was actually lost, had hurt himself practicing magic in Fire Cloud Cave. The Fire King was relieved, expressing his anticipation of recovering his power soon, ensuring the Fire Tribe would never lose. Ka Suo later approached Ying Kong Shi, noticing his brother’s tense demeanor.

He gently urged Ying Kong Shi to accept the throne without feeling guilt, assuring him that in his heart, Ying Kong Shi was the best choice for King. He hoped that no matter their paths, their brotherly bond would remain unchanged. The Ice King subsequently announced that the successor would be decided by a competition between Ka Suo and Ying Kong Shi.

As the first task, he challenged them to be the first to devise a method to repair the Ice Veil, which was crucial for defending against the Fire Tribe, given the loss of the Six-Leaf Ice Crystal. Both brothers immediately stated they didn't need time, as they already knew the essential first step before the Ice Veil could be repaired: taking away the source of the holy fire.
